Most people I've spoken to that agree with me this is NOT a TES game in anything other than name say the same thing.

They want EVERYTHING group 1 wants AND EVERYTHING group 2 wants.

AND THEY COULD DO THIS!!!!!!

They have chosen NOT to.

3 faction warfare...based on houses not race.

No land locks.  No classes, skill based advancement just like the games.

NO restriction on content level based or otherwise.

Make the game with everything everyone wants.  This is not hard to do...the moronic DaoC jerkoff in charge just refuses to accept that it COULD be done.

And the above game would be much more satisfying to everyone in groups 1 and 2 than what they are making now.  As of now nobody is really happy.  That's what most games I've seen in the past decade have done...and failed because of.

WoW is the only acception and the reasons why have been beaten to death WITH a dead horse on these forums.

The only thing I would want different is the warfare, make it multi-faction warfare based on allegiance which players can choose. If you decide not to choose a faction then you can merc yourself to any faction anytime you want.

I guess you didn't play gw2, where titan alliance on HoD made a player allegiance and destroyed the wvw scene, forced hundreds if not thousands of transfers and potentially ruined the game...

If you let players make cross faction allegiances... you would end up with a huge blob that just murdered the tiny minority.

Stop being a moron, just get all your friends on one faction.

Once again someone doesn't agree so they resort to condescention and name calling.

I'm talking about multiple hard coded fations in the game in which people get to initially choose and stick with, not cross faction alliegences where players use vent to coordinate and exploit the game mechanics.

Thing is they aren't trying anything different, they're copying a game that a handful of them helped make over 12 years ago. If they actually wanted to do something different why not actually take, not what made the IP a great single player game, but what made it a great RPG and integrate it into a MMO. With all of the posts about wanting something different and new, it's hard to understand why people still get excited when we see devs rehashing the same old mechanics from a decade ago.

How do you know? Have you actually AvA'd in this game already? It could be very, very different from all you know.

Three faction RvR doesn't sound even remotely familiar to you, because it does to me. They're trying to capture the "glory days" of their development career, because they don't want to step out of their comfort zone. I've said it before, the fact that Bethesda wants nothing to do with this game speaks volumes about what Zenimax wanted to do with the IP in the first place.

The only reason they're calling it AvA is because RvR is copywritten. Other than that it's the same core mechanic in a zonewide conflict.

So you hear "3 faction RvR" and you then know all you need to know?

You then assume people who develop games for a living, don't learn, but you, a game player, does.

Further you fantasize distaste from the true TES developers because Bethesda's parent company, not Bethesda itself is developing it.

I have to say I am in awe of your intelect.

To paraphrase jtcgs... internet fail.

10 + years of MMO history pretty much shows me that developers haven't learned...

and there's no need for you to condesend to me just because you don't like my point of view.

Hardcore actually shrinks your potential player base.

PvP shrinks it further.

RvR shrinks it further.

I'm not saying there aren't players interested. I'm saying its fairly niche. I like FFA PvP with full loot and it is just as niche which means it would be a hard sale on a kickstarter asking for 2mil as well.

It isn't a diss to the game, it's just a reality check. It is equally likely that it won't reach its goals.

It is intented to be a niche game, been said right from the start, and as far as i'm concerned, i'm happy about it :)

Even though PvP in general isn't my favorite aspect of MMOs, I admire MJ for what he's trying to do. In a world of games that do EVERYTHING less than mediocre, it's nice to see one developer who's trying to do ONE THING very very well.

Because they don't want to step out of their comfort zone? No, it's because people have been demanding a good RvR game every since ToA came out... but, you probably don't know what I mean by that. If that's the case, then please don't talk about a subject you don't know a athing about...

Ok, so why didn't they just make an RvR game rather than turning an IP not even known for PvP into it. They couldn't get Bethesda to sign on to develop an actual ES game so decided to stick to what they know, but they wanted the ES IP to do half of the marketing for them.

Mark Jacobs is trying to work on a RvR game, but he's not doing it to an IP that's known for it's PvE. Atleast if CU fails it won't have dragged a well known IP down with it.

I agree, in DDO you almost have to plan your entire character out from the beginning. If you don't you might miss out on feats and enhancements that you'll need later, and won't be able to get them because you don't meet the prerequiste. With TSW as long as you have the skills you can pretty much build on the fly.

If you haven't tried The Secret World that might be as close as any have gotten in terms of theory crafting and meta game. The skill system allows for numerous roles. You buy the skills with AP and then form "decks" of 7 active skills and 7 passive skills. It's B2P, but if you want to give it a try PM me with email and I'll send you a buddy key.

The situation refrenced in the article sounds more to me like they consented to an interview without inquiring what the context was going to be. That being the case it's up to an individual to protect themselves from uncomfrotable situations. The easiest way would have been to answer, " Yeah we'll answer a few questions as long as they're not of a sexual nature."

As for the situations Meagan heself experienced, it sounds like she needs to be more assertive. Her smiling and laughing the situations off make people think she's okay with it. If they were just being lighthearted with their conversation, then they'll understand and cease the behavior.

In cases where a person wasn't just being lighthearted there are laws on the books to protect people from that kind of unwanted attention. Besides the fact that they wouldn't want it to stir up a shit storm putting their lives under a microscope, because if they've done it to one person chances are they've done it to others. All it takes is one whistle blower to pull other victims out of the woodwork.

Planetside 2 has friendly fire you can actually be penalized for harassment if you pk your allies too much. I seems to quell people from line of sighting each other too much, but it hasn't stopped zerging.

I assumed they are using their old engines.

The graphics, animation and feels for the game seems to me that they spend very little money on it.

They even have players making their own content for them, lol.

Based on this assumptions, Cryptic is going to make lot of money with this MMO.

The foundary actually fits in this game more so than any other. The players of PNP D&D have been creating their own dungeons and campaigns for years, that's why the lore and story of Faerun is so deep. In a way they've given the players a sandbox of sorts, and it doesn't interfere with the main story of the game.

Many here have been wanting player driven content for a long time. If nothing else developers should take note of the foundary system and try to expand on it.

I typically choose Dwarves when they're offered, I'm drawn to the gruff demeanor and the focus on ancestry. When they're not available I choose the beast races like goblin, there's nothing more fun than to be part of a mob of unruly monsters or mangy beasts.

I usually roll Fighter or Paladin classes. You know to smite the the unholy or to die an honorable warrior's death in battle. I just find it fun to play those kind of strong roles. Sometimes I'll roll a Shadowknight type class for the tainted Paladin theme.

It really comes down to an element of roleplay for me. I even try to make the names I use fit the characters I build, because it's supposed to be the story of my character. Without those pieces fitting together it's hard to enjoy his or her story as it unfolds.

Just to clear up a few things. The puzzles have been reduced because players were just giving up at the end. As this is the first quest in the campaign, I understood that level and complexity of puzzles should increase gradually. As users found too many puzzles, too confusing, I decided to reduce them. Another reason was that beta is short - just a weekend. In limited time, people would like to cover a lot of content. Hence that was another reason to make it a bit simple. However do not mistake "a bit simple" to mean simple. It is still tough nut to crack and long too! Though it shortens the length significantly, it is still 45+mins at least. And it is still quite formidable.

sounds fun, I'll be sure to check it out when I log back in.

The quest can be done solo.

EDIT:- There are fewer puzzles now. I had to remove a few puzzle and make some simpler. This was because of complaints that they get stuck whenever they face puzzles. I will add them later quests when people are weaned away from linear quests and get used to nonlinear quests.

And now you understand why companies make their games dumb-proof and console-like?

I for one wish you had never "nerfed" your dungeon, but you're just being a mini-EA to please the masses. And if you could makemoney out of it, you'd have nerfed them even further so even complete idiots could play it and leave their cash on your pocket.

Lesson learned, I hope.

What's the view like from up there on your high horse?

My high horse is named hipocrisy, and I enjoy being on top of it. I ride it against the double-standards and convenient moralities that plague the lands of the internet.

 lol......a crusader of sorts huh?

Being Trion, I'm sure anyone will be able to buy an upgrade for the pre-order items later after launch just like they did with Rift.
After playing NWN2, no the whole 20 questions with every NPC and listening to you're party members disagree with one another in every conversation killed it for me. It's also why I couldn't stand any of Bioware's later titles ( Mass Effect and Dragon Age = same games with different story and setting.)

I'm fine with the graphics, the power supply on my main rig died yesterday so I booted it up on my laptop whick only has a Quadro 1600m gpu. Suprisingly it does a great job of running it.

The combat reminds me somewhat of Daggerdale which is not too bad for action combat. I'm not too pleased with the classes and abilities, being a fan of the P&P games and earlier rulesets but I can appriceate it for what it is. I can always play DDO if I want deep character progression.

The story is my favorite part so far as it follows along with Salvatore's Neverwinter series, many who've never read the books won't appreiceate it as much as I do. I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.

I've barely scratched the surface of the foundary, but I've come across some interesting quests so far.

I haven't tryed the pvp or dungeons yet so I can't comment on them.

It's going to be free to play for what that's worth so none will be out too much to try it out upon release. The way people have been tearing it down you'd swear that it was a P2P release from a company known for putting out qualtiy titles (Cryptic.) So far (and maybe it's because I didn't follow it too closely) it's everything that I expected. I got a taste of what was coming by playing Daggerdale ( put out by Atari before the Cryptic/PWI aquisition.)

its hilarious when people think only a real elder scrolls fan is one that agrees with them! LOL

i have news for you, i like the elder scrolls games too but i am also a fan of mmo's. i don't want the MMO to be the exact same thing as the single player game.

if that is what you want you may as well just wait for the next ES single player game and save yourself a lot of time complaining about this MMO

Using that same logic though...

I dont want the MMO to be radically different from the single player games. If that is what you want you may as well just wait for another MMO that isn't ESO and save yourself a lot of time complaining about this MMO.

So I mean... yeah... people will have different opinions.

pretty much this. Why have an Elder Scrolls game at all, if it isn't going to be anything like Elder Scrolls? Then it can be like any other MMO...and if that is the case...why have it be Elder Scrolls to begin with?

It has to be radically different to be an MMO. That's why its an MMO and not a single player game. And even with this change it's still going to be nothing like single player elder scrolls game. Elders scrolls was never about MMO. That's why a completely different studio is making this instead of the guys that made the original elder scrolls games. They want nothing to do with MMO. If you want true elder scrolls, you should have nothing to do with MMO either.

This is an Elder Scrolls game.

Na it'll be some other abomination. If they had stuck to making Elder Scrolls a MMO, they could have had one of the best PVE MMOs in a long time. Instead they want to be the one stop shop for all of your pve, pvp, and dungeon crawling needs.Of course it's all going to have to be fair which means constant nerf/rebalancing of classes, instancing, and general homogenization.

That's why it was never on top of my to watch list, well that and the fact that Bethesda refused to have any part of it (and that alone speaks volumes about what Zenimax wanted to do with it in the first place.)

The easier way to handle the factioning would have been to allow players to forsake allegience to any of the kingdoms, then if they wanted to later they could claim allegience or just merc themselves out.

Of course trying to please everyone by adding pvp to an Elder Scrolls game is what got them into this mess in the first place.
