Not exactly sure if I understand this post correctly. Are you saying Vanguard has all the old school elements that I am seeking? I did play Vanguard when it came out, and thought it really wasn't a bad game. But It's been a long time so not up to date on the advances possably that have been made in the game.

Thanks for all for tips. Maybe you can teach a old dog new tricks.  :)

Being a mostly a spectator rather a writer and have terrable spelling skills, I wrote this in my email program to be able use spell checker and didn't know about font size. Now I do.

Thanks guys for suggestions and responces to my meaningless post. (By that I mean) not addressing a solid topic but just tossing out thoughts.

Game till you bleed!

Sorry, about the structure of my writing. I'm not a english professor. It never dawned on me that my writing skills would be on critque here.

Just wanted some interaction with fellow gamers.

Have a great day everyone.

P.S. I think  Orcs must die II really rocks!

Just throwing out opinion here. Nothing that can be resolved but only my opinion. I started online gaming with my beta testing the first online game back in 1993? It was called Meridian59. I know there might have been previous online games but generally speaking this was the one that got it all started.
Then I sat in front of my computer hitting the log on key to this new game called Everquest. Oh my, I was mesmerized to say the least.
Now the last game to still carry over the “Looking for such and such class” to take so and so camp. That game was Dark age of Camelot. Since then I have basically tried most other games that came out, but never really got the same results. I soon learned that every game was somewhat the same old stuff. Generally played till the first month was over then deleted. Not to say a lot of these new generation games were bad, but just to generic and same old stuff. Seems like every class could do it all so the needing of a specific class in your group, to take a certain camp was gone. I didn’t feel the comraderly or grouping that was from the days when it first started.
Now games are just blah. Don’t get me wrong, I am not that good at games but enjoyed to the point where it was my main hobby. The death penalty in Everquest was way too severe, but on the other hand the new games seem to endorse hand holding and barely a repercussion from dying.
I don’t really see it going back to the way it was, which is sad for me as I feel like I lost my escape from the real world hobby. I remember days in Everquest where I would play for hours on end. (Almost too much) lol Just to let you know I am a old dude, and started with the Commodore 64.
This post is just me venting and putting out some thoughts on how I feel. Seems to me the reason for (almost everything is money) so obviously company's are there to make a profit. As a former business owner I understand bottom line. One of my biggest pet peeves are people complaining about the monthly fee (normally 15.00 a month) I am on a set income and by no means well off financially, but for goodness sakes, $15.00 for a months worth of entertainment? I mean if one can afford a computer and internet service to begin with, how can the monthly fee even enter the equation?
Real life generally works like “You get what you pay for” I detest free to play games as they usually are getting into your wallet almost in a deceiving way. Like I said, this is just me venting to fellow gamers and throwing out my two cents. Well wishes to everyone and game till you bleed. lol
Have a “groovy” day.

My son and I beta tested the first on line game. Then moved on to EQ. I have basically stopped playing  since Camelot. games are on a completly didfernt style. My son buys the newest game and seems to play them for a month. when are people going to learn there is nothing new under the sun? Wash , rinse , repeat. All these games are exactly the same. All I can say is have fun for a month then buy the next one.

Game till you bleed

Are you kidding me??? I stopped reading this after I got to TCTC and Calerxes on the first page. They demand the op say imo. Are you joking? Every word that is posted here is imo. Besides, if one person likes a game and another doesn’t, who gives a crap? Ever since Dark Age of Camilot all games are exactly the same. imo

if you want that might as well spend it all on cosmetics and xp boost from the store every month on F2P games. weird.

Well, it was just a statment to show a point of view. I'm not a idiot. (Well, maybe I am, depends on who you ask) When I hear people belly aching over paying $15.00 a month I am dumbfounded, and realize no one after being conditioned into this play for free crap. There is nothing in life free, someone has to pay for it. These companys know what their doing,

EXTREMELY simple..... Who ever has the money makes the rules. As a former business owner for many years I can tell you this. If one has a lemonade stand, and makes $10.00 a week, but it costs $15.00 to operate..... Well, the end result is obvious.

These people know what their doing. and I’m sure it’s not from the goodness of their heart. When you can buy things to make a game easier, or make your dude a Epic warrior, that’s just wrong. Who ever has the most money wins. I am a old dude and have been playing since Commodore 64 days. I beta tested the first online game. (Meridian 59) I basically quit playing online games when the people turned from helpful and friendly. That game was Dark age of Camelot. Of course this is just how I feel about it. and that effects no one. If you are drawing fun from any game what does it matter what I think? But, any way you slice it, they are going to get their money. I don’t fault them for that. If you own a business and don’t make a profit, you don’t last long.

Game till you bleed....

P.S. My son of course was one of the first in line to get this game. I have watched him over the years buy every new online game and basically stop play after a month or two. I have tryed to tell him, all these games are just like each other. There is nothing new under the sun, and if it is ever put out there, I will be so there.

This is probably my last contribution here. It was fun. I can see most that have commented are a smidge older then the norm and was a neat walk down memory lane. Getting harder and harder to find people that actually played Meridian 59. My name in the game was Scoop and my son was Scoopjr. At the back of the Manuel you can find our names. I also had a a Vectrex and Intelevision. Wow those were the days. Also for years subscribed to computer gaming monthly, till they went kaput. Had Amiga and Atari ST. I’m glad I was in on the ground floor. Take care everyone, I think this was the first threat I ever followed.

StormXXX I agree with you completly. It was basically a topic and a theory rhetorical question. I have owned businesses and lets face it. Money rules the world. No market, no profit. Just the facts ma'am.
Thanks everyone for some mature Reponses and input. I NEVER comment here as it is a site (lets face it) is geared somewhat for younger audiences. Always flame city and vulgar language. It’s refreshing to see some intelligent comments and opinions for a change. Like I said, not trying to impose my views just a switch from the normal, “This game is better then that game” We are all gamers. I have played (almost) every online game since the beginning. I fully admit I’m not the best gamer. lol but enjoy the sport. I have never tried the Fantasy series and actually looking forward to their revised game. I was always one to preorder or be the first to buy everything new. I have finally learned my lesson and wait till the findings are out. Does anyone remember the game “Lode Runner” for the Commodore 64? Great game. addictive to say the least. I was looking forward to Guild Worlds ll, but (I know many people will enjoy it) and good for them. But now believe it wont be what I am waiting for. This goofy game I just bought called “All Orcs must Die ll. Have to admit, it’s very fun and addicting. (if you like defense games.) I still dabble at Eve but must admit the concept is hard for me to grasp. I am working on getting all my stats on my frigate to elite. I want to see if it’s possible to do level 4 missions with a frigate. (Good luck with that!) haa haa I have never been a PKer. A term left over from Meridian 59 (Player Killer) I am too nice.:)
But will admit if anyone remembers Dark Age of Camelot. Their realm wars were the best and a lot of fun.
Always remember, it’s not that difficult to be kind.

yes Istavaav, You are partly right. :)..... One man's trash is another man's treasure. I was just making  a off the wall statement.  Certainly most people cant and wont pay that fee. But remeber, if you are stinking rich, money means nothing. I simply can't understand why anyone would pay $75,000 for a car when you can get a good reliable car for much much less. But that is just me. Cars mean nothing to me. Just gets you from point a to point b. Just throwing out a different perspective for fun. Have been reading this site since (I beleive) a father and son started it) since it's inception. I will never forget the first time I saw Pacman. I was in total awe. No way could there better graphis then this game. My friend worked at a bank and bought home a phone modem and could conect to his bank and play a  text game. (Can't remeber the name) I think it was around 1976?  Something about a dragon and a parakeet. I was dumbfounded and hooked ever since. The one think that bothers me about most game sites is the obsolet info they allow to remain. I personally beleive anything (gamewise) or hardware wise older then a year should be allowed to see the inside of a dumpster. I am struggle finantually but if I cant have the badest to the bonest computer then I will take up playing marbles for my hobby. Who wants to play a game with the settings set to the lowest view? This post isn't to push my views on anyone else. It's just a goofy new perspective.

Game till you bleed, and then go out in your car and drive fast and reckless. <smile>

This is addressed to Barcrow. I am and stood staring at the “Coleco” or Com.64 as to which would be my first computer. This is in regards to your holding back for a smart phone. I am held back intimidated till 4 months ago. Did tons of research and bought a Galaxy ll.
Probably the best “gizmo” buy I have made in my life. Canceled my land line and with all options and G4 pay $50.00 a month. I am struggling financially but believe me once you get into it, you cant go back. I happen to love Words with Friends” (Scrabble) and the most addicting game I have ever played if you like “Defense” games. “Dragon Defense Shrine” Thanks for taking the time to comment on my post. I feel mentally as I am walking in the hallways of high schools. But in reality I am 59 and single and still look at hot chicks. lol I hope I never grow up. Like I said this is just a off the track just for fun post. Nothing earth shattering here.
Game till you bleed.
I know every one that reads this will think I’m out of my mind. I beta tested the very first online game. (Meridian59) I am a old dude. Then off to EQ. For me online gaming ended with Dark Age of Camelot. The last game where people had to play their class and grouped and helped each other.
Every game since has been the same thing over and over. This free to play crap is just that. The old adage “You get what you pay for” is true. This is simply a viewpoint that I've never seen before. I don’t expect anyone to agree with me nor do I want them to. Writing this just for fun. Just as people can buy a Ford Focus, or a BMW, there should be a stellar game made that requires heavy computer hardware and a month fee of $50.00 a month.
I am not a rich man, life costs. Go to the movies twice a month. Go bowling, go down hill skiing, go golfing, buy gas for your car. lol A hobby is a hobby. Call it the over the over 40 game. lol Not sure what most people pay for a “smart” phone fee, but how much entertainment does that bring you a month? No need to rip me a new one. This is just a break from the normal posts and just for fun. Simply food for thought.
Remember, game till you bleed.

As a born again Christain, and a old gaming dude from Commodor64 days, and having beta tested the very first online game (Meridian59 and then EQ) most games offend me. That developers feel they have to shove this down your throat. If some one wants the f-word or sex, or false gods thrown at them, thats ok, it's their choice. But something that always has confused me is why they couldnt make (in some cases) a version that simply left out the f bomb or blasphemy. But, alas, the world is turning into a cesspool and I have basically left my gaming hobby as people can be so foul mouthed it spoils the involvement or ambiance. Back in the day, people grouped and helped each other descover this new format of entertainment. Im not preaching or trying to make people adapt my views, just putting in my two cents. Beleive me, I have been down the road of debauchery, and hardly a  sinless man    (smile)   Like I said, if none of this fallen morality bothers you, go for it. This is just a personal thing and speaking from my heart. Over the years I've seen the moral decay filter it's way into games, and it bums me out that I mostly have left the gaming hobby. (I still play Eve a bit) and also waiting for the day when something TOTALLY new hits my computer. I thought GW II might be that game but have a gut feeling it will simply be the same old same old. After Dark age Camelot, things went down hill. Please don't waste your flames on me, it's not worth it, as I said... Just a personal view point and eveyone has to define thier own code of honor

Ok everyone "game till you bleed" and have a "groovy" day...   lol

Funcom seems to be hell bent on releasing games that require the best GFX card, IMO this is one of the reasons AOC didn't make it big, Funcom is not making very good business moves having there games require $400+ GFX cards to play, this only limits the amount of people that can play and in turn hurts revenue.

I can only get 15fps and I was also reading that even players with GTX 670 are only getting 30fps, really Funcom needs to learn off there mistakes, never, ever set supper high system requirments for a sub based MMO, this alone is means death, Funcom and all MMO's for that matter sould  tweek the games to run in a range of 8 years of system hardware not the last year alone.

Wow, I don't know anyone with a computer that is 8 years old. If your computer is older then two years (max) time to get new equitment or find another hobby. Personally I think a computer older then six months needs to see the inside of a dumpster. I am a very low income old dude, but if I can't play the newest game at the highest settings, I will switch to another form of entertainment. Good luck in finding a solution to your situation bro.

Remeber, game till you bleed...

It’s so funny, how people have such a vast difference in the way they view the same thing. I don’t even want to play a game if it doesn’t have super high requirements. I have a very limited income, but since my hobby is computer gaming, why bother if I have a crappy computer? I try to (as best as I can afford) keep my computer as bad to the bone as possible. Maybe they could release a online game called “Pong” for those people running a Commodore 64? Oh by the way, I’m a old dude that beta tested the first online game to start it all. Meridian 59.
I’m not contributing anything here, just throwing out my thoughts.
Remember, game till you bleed.
I think the “new” hobby to replace online gamming is, reading, and discussing games in the making. We need a totally new innovative blow you out of the water, addicting destroy your personal life, to come out. My opinion is, since EQ and Dark age of Camelot went away the social interaction of online gamming became non-existent. I am a old dude that beta tested Meridian59 and just might die of old age before this happens. To quote a king from the past, “There is nothing new under the sun”
Game till you bleed....

Having played most online games, I miss this one the most. My best computer game memories are of Dark Age of Camlot. I personally think those days are gone forever. Back in the day, people acually became real life friends and the interaction was much more in depth. I'm glad I got in the ground floor with Meridian59 and then EQ.

As always, game till you bleed...

Well, you can split hairs all day long. I beta tested and was addicted to (in my opinon) the first game that started it all. Meridian59

Then a couple of years later I sat at my computer and hit the "logon" key for a long time till finally I got through to EQ when that game was released.

Those were the days...   but those days are gone never to return. I am just glad I was there to experience them.  I still remeber standing in the store debating which to buy. The Commodor, or the Coleco computer.

Old gamer dude.
