Originally posted by Zippy This is kind of off topic but how was AoC's combat more simplistic than your normal MMOPRG combat? In your normal MMOPRG you have auto attack, in AoC you had to press different directional buttons to attack (tryimg to connect on each attack) while moving and casting spells. |

Your right, once your minions reached a ceratin level you can upgrade that classes (ie solider, caster, or healer) armor in your camp. Orginally there was a max of 8 minions you could have with all sorts of formations, they then realized it was too hard to manage and balance while you played in a group so they reduced it down to 4. |

Originally posted by mynameisben I would have to agree with you, the concept sounds great but I think they will have to add more substance to this game for it to be successful. From what I read, it seems the only way you can progress is doing quest which involves matches, what else is this game going to offer besides matches? Is there going to be any PvE? Will we be able to set up clan/guild matches? Maybe I am thinking to far ahead but these are some of the questions that pop in my head. I would have to say that the PvP and shooting appeal to my FPS side, while the character customization and character progress appeal to my MMO side, you kind of get the best of both worlds. Let’s hope they can put this together.

I didnt think the keeps were going to be that big, alot of strategy is going to be needed to take one of those down. |

Thanks Avery, that definelty cleared some things up I wasnt to sure on. |

Avery, From what you know, would you say there is still some level of strategy using the skills? Lets say you see a caster about to cast something and you are in the middle of a combo, would you hit the skill to cancel the cast or would you finish the combo to get the most damage? For casters, is spell weaving still in game? From what I read it kind of sounds like you use a skill than follow up with directional attacks, is this correct? Also, is spell weaving still in the game? |

I thought I would post the exact quote just in case some people didnt believe you, "Yesterday in our Cheetah 2 build we were able to fly over this valley with 800+ NPCs loaded, every NPC in the zone loaded, and I never dropped below about 25 frames per second. Without loading all those NPCs, I was going over 64/84 frames per second. Now, the Cheetah build we brought to show, a lot of people have been asking "Can I run the game on my computer?" and "What's it going to look like on DX9?". We've made sure we focused on what we brought here as far as Cheetah 2, is all DX9/Windows XP. We're talking about 1920 by 1200, and getting upwards of 30 to 60 frames per second – very solid Windows XP graphics. Massive, massive increase in performance, and we're really proud to be able to show that to people. We want people to know we're not going for a repeat of our Anarchy Online launch." This was from Conan designer Jason Stone. |

In melee combat you have six different angles of attack; down against the head, diagonally down from the right, diagonally down from the left, thrust against the torso, diagonally up from the right and diagonally up from the left. Combining these angles you'll be able to create combos that can give additional damage and faster combat. You don't choose a single target in melee combat, but instead you turn your player to the direction you wish to hit, and you attack from one of the six angles. Attacking from some of these angles allows you to hit more than one enemy at a time; dealing damage to all of them. The damage of the attack will then be spread out on all the enemies that you hit. You can get a soft lock on a target, but this doesn't mean that you're within range of the target. You can attack from where you stand, but that doesn't mean that you will hit anything. When you strike, the underlying engine will decide whether you hit a target, several targets, or none at all. In ranged combat you have two different ways of aiming at your enemy. You have the snipe attack where you see from a first-person perspective and you have to aim at your enemy as in FPS games. You also have the cone attack, where you see from a third-person perspective and you have a small cone in front of your player where your attacks will be aimed. The engine decides which enemy within the cone you will be firing at, depending on how straight in front of you and how close the enemy is. You also have different angles of attack in ranged combat similar to melee combat. Its amazing what a little research can do for you :). http://aoc.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page, Is a great site if you want to know more information on AoC than this brief article gives. |

What to expect from Conan & Warhammer ?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/30/07 9:21:38 AM
People are looking to much into the "mature" rating for AoC, the only people who care about the ratings are the strict parents who probally wont let there kids play. Sure there will be kids who play the game but to state that the "mature" rating will attract more kids is ludicrous. Gameplay will keep this game alive, not boobs and blood. The kids that buy it for that reason (even though I think there wont be many) wont be around for long anyways. I will be trying both, they both have features that seem interesting if implemented correctly. AoC has seige combat and WAR has RvR. I would suggest trying both before passing judgement on either. |

Athelan is there a way we can update our dxg file (or check it) without signing up for a new account for beta? I cant remeber If I updated it or not after I got my new comp. |

But all the recent and upcoming MMORPG's see it differently. Most are sticking to the basic classes with two variations to them. |
|
|
The more customization you have in a PvP dominated game, the more effort the developers have to put into balancing each kind of class. One of the most important things players are stressing in PvP games is balance between classes, so as a developer, it is in there best intrest to keep customization low so that they can better acheive balance between the classes. Im not trying to advocate less customization in games because I for one believe that everyone should have there own unique character that seperates them from everyone else, but If I had to choose between customizatoin and balance, balance would win. We would have less griefers and better gameplay. |
|
|
I beilive that WAR will cater to both kinds of players that like instanced PvP battles and open field battles. I personally like both, I just hope instanced PvP doesnt dominate to much so that there is no open PvP battles. |
