General: Community Spotlight: Would You Play a Fully PvE MMOG?

Again, these games are in fact, free to play. I play them all the time. some for days, some for several months. I play, explore and advance in them as intended. I enjoy the game FOR FREE, until its not fun anymore. I have NEVER payed for a thing in these games. I don't want to and I've never felt compelled to. As far as PvP goes, you will always be at a disadvantage to someone. Someone will always have a faster connection or system, or someone will always be willing to pay power levelers and/or gold farmers so they can be stronger and buy better gear...How is that any different than an item mall? Even if it does lead to a disadvantage to PvP, contrary to popular belief PvP does not equal MMO. There are lots of other things to do. including teaming and quests, in which of course there is no concept of a single player winning. If you are playing to PvP, you might as well leave F2P and most P2P mmo's alone as PvP is just an afterthought in most of them anyway |

General: Fiddle of Gold - Also Available in Shop

^Truth^ and honestly its not that we are confused about MTs.... Honestly, I don't think they have ANY place in p2p games, and I can say that until I'm blue in the face. But there will always be lazy people who are willing to pay to get "to the top" faster. And my voice, (and millions of others) will never speak louder than thousands of people spending cash. Too many people wanting to bring that cheat code mentality into RPGs where it has no business being |

Everything you listed there is an OPTIONAL item. Except maybe the perfumes, but I do remember reading that those would be available to be purchased with in-game money as well. Idk, I will still be giving the game a shot. We will see if I feel like I need cash shop items or not. |

Bethesda's Elder Scrolls MMO wont work IMO.

In fact, outside of an Arena, there's no place for PvP in any of the games or the lore. Of course you could always instance the dungeons/tombs or have a timed reset for them. And, if they use the entire world they've created there would be plenty of places to go off and pick flowers for alchemy. I think you have valid concerns, I do as well. But, when I'm playing TES I can't stop thinking how great it would be if they'd make an online version. Especially in Oblivion, because sometimes the world seems mighty empty in that game. I'm just trying to have faith in Bethesda, that they won't allow anything to happen to their bread n butter IP. Hell, I'd say they've earned my trust over the years. |

Its too bad NWN didn't work out for you, cuz that's the first thing that crossed my mind when I read your post. I'm not sure how many are still playing it, but Titan Quest might be worth a shot. Have you tried League of Legends? |

There's actually quite a few of them out there. Soccer, Basketball, Baseball. You name it. And why not? Sports games boosted there sales YEARS ago, by adding RPG elements to the mix. and fans of sports titles and fantasy sports are familiar with the idea of role-playing already. I've enjoyed the sports MMOs that i've played. (Freestyle, Buzzerbeater, Shot Online) I would honestly love to see more of these in the future. |

That's sad, because you're missing out on the best pet-based f2p out there. Alternately, I might suggest Asda Story, but there's those pesky "cutesy" graphics. Honestly, I'm hard pressed to think of a pet based f2p game that doesn't have "cutesy" graphics. It sounds like you may have to get over some things if you want to find something. Sorry. |

Did you try Galaxy Online. I played that for a bit and it sounds a bit like your description. |

Issues with the game from a non-MMO player perspective

I can't really do much from my living room here to change your opinion.
Whether its true or not. its clear that you have nothing better to do. It's one thing to post your own negative thoughts on the game, but to come on and post someone else's.... Well that's trolling on a whole new level |

Personally, I love them. I think they can really help drive the story in a game, and they add that epic feel to quests that I crave. I remember those days before instancing, waiting hopelessly to kill a mob for a quest or drop, only to find a group of high levels camping it for days at a time....so fun Or walking into a dungeon expecting the battle of your life, only you find it empty and have until it resets because the group before you already cleared it out?...so fun How about having another group running away and unknowingly, (or knowingly) training mobs to your group...so fun Yeah, I remember those days. I'll take instancing (done right) for $300, Alex

What is with every MMO being a cartoon?

Yes, you are absolutely correct. Its all about Polygon count. But we're not talking "Photo realistic" here. Yes, that would demand a vast amount of....as you say. I don't think the OP is talking about Photo Realism so much as a more realistic "art style" (rather than Anime or over sized cartoonish figures). There is a difference betwen Photo Realism, and Realism.
I think this guy understand exactly what I mean as well as the poster following this quoted post. Look I understand the idea that not everyone has the most outstanding system with an ATI 5770 HD card or better, i7 CPU, and 30mb or better DL speed. But for once I would love to see what these people can do if they 'assumed' everyone had a hardcore system, just for show. I want to 'see' what you really can do. This whole problem with everyone needing to be able to run the game bugs me, maybe conan is where I should spend some time and run that on max graphics. But I do foresee the future of virtual worlds becoming ultra realistic in under 10 years time. I think WoW does have lowsy graphics due to the limitation on poiy's and the need to increase client side performance. The terrible thing about WoW is that it's wall of text questing and gear progression is outdated to name a few things besides cartoon like images.
Check out Age or Conan or Vanguard. People want massive games with high population. By making a game only a few can run, you limit your potential for that |

Honestly, as a 30 year old gamer, the cartoony graphics don't bother me at all. I have imagination enough that I can immerse myself in any world. Doesn't really matter what it looks like. Actually, I prefer the more toony graphics, because there's never any doubt as to whether or not my system can run them. In fact, I like knowing that everyone else can run the game smoothly too. I mean, what kills immersion more toony graphics or people running around (and constantly complaining) about lag issues? nothing says "hey this is just a game" like watching people rubberband. Has anyone else noticed that a lot of the more "realistic" looking games tend to suck? That's not really a coincidence. Once you use a good chunk of your resources on graphics, that's less you have to use on actual content. Just saying.... |

The "STO crowd" seem to be enjoying their game just fine. Some people really seem to hate cryptic. Well I don't have an opinion either way. They make games and I decide whether or not to buy them based on if I like them or not. Simple as that. I voted yes, they should make games as long as they find it profitable for their company. I may or may not buy them. I will take a wait and see approach to the games (Just like i do any other developer or game) I tend to enjoy most games though, as I don't go in with any expectations of greatness |

Is it ok to not want a skill-based game?

I'm with you. I often say that the things people try to fix about mmo's are things that aren't broken. I mean Final Fantasy got through 10 games without really changing their combat system. and its largely because you weren't playing it for the combat. You were there for the story, the characters, and the epic feel of it. On the other hand, Bethesda listened to forum posters and spiced up the combat from Morrowind to Oblivion, and for the most part those changes have gone unnoticed by the fans, and I don't think anyone new picked oblivion up because of the combat either. OVerall, Morrowind is a better game because there were better stories Sadly, I think the problem is we have people here and on other forums who complain about MMORPGs, who aren't fans of RPGs |
