Been following this game since announced, and justt played beta for the first time today.  All I can say is that this is a huge disappointment on so many levels.  Character models are aweful, Interaction with NPCs virtually non existent, learning curve is huge do to the lack of detail and information, and really no navigation system.  I logged in and ran around for an hour, and I still don't even have a clue how or what to do.  This coming from a guy whose played almost every MMO to have come out since UO.

Rated it a 1 out of 10, and that's being generous.  Sadly I was hoping this game would be a winner, but the game just needs to be scrapped altogether.

I beta tested the game too.  The concept of the game had a lot of potential, unfortunately, the developers and designers didn't put enough planning or thought into it.

At least I get to say I told you so to all the Fanboys that bought the game despite beta testing it first.

Funcom offered a service to allow players to play the game before official launch. Your giving them your time to beta test the launch. It is not and was never meant to be an official headstart, but more of an official launch beta tester. You paid them for the bandwith to download the client.

That's the dumbest thing I've heard all week.

I've been on the bandwagon for AoC ever since I quit WoW 3 months in, and have been desperately looking for a new mmo to play.  I wanted AoC to succeed, but it's been a big disappointment from playing beta.

Still filled with bugs.  Combat is Button-Mashing gallore.  Skill tree is similar to WoW.  I think gameplay wise, WoW actually beats it; which is embarrassing to say.  I just don't see how it can be any more dynamic than WoW, with the fact that it has so many similarities and lacking faults.

The only thing that AoC has on WoW is the graphics right now.

Is that this game is developed for XBOX360.

No it wasn't.  AoC was supposed to be the premier game to show off Direct X 10 along with Crysis.  It just went through a lot of major delays and should have came out a few months after Vista Release.  Xbox 360 is a secondary market.  This game in no way, was specifically designed for 360.   It's hard to imagine it trying to handle this game, Red Ring of Death is probably  going to  happen to a lot more people.

QFT.  A lot of followers are praising this game as the best game ever, and it's still at least 2 to 8 years away from being released.  FFS, it's not even close to beta yet.  You can have the best ideas ever, but if you can't turn them into something, they're worthless.

I wish someone would make a UO2 already.....I am still waiting for a game I enjoyed as much as UO.

Darkfall is coming.

Darkfall has been coming for 6+ years now.  They release news in the developer journal, but it's sad that we have no clue when it will ever get to beta.  They hinted at it tentatively for last summer, and missed it bad.  Then the darkfall community waited until last christmas.  Nothing.   Great concept game, but it's possible that someone could start working on UO2 and have it done before darkfall ever hits release.

And what makes you think that? Last time I checked, My little nephew also drops a game when its too easy. not to mention PSU has a monthly fee, I seriously doubt the target audience are 4- 10 years old.

and if the game is anything like PSO, the game difficulty level will increase.

on a sidenote, if you were expecting an MMORPG, then you will be dissapointed. PSU is not an MMO.

Play it for yourself and you'll see what I mean. It's a button mashing game.   In the beta you can interact with numerous players, and also jump servers.

Your insane lol, the combat is what drives this game, by far the best combat engine out for an online rpg (mmo or otherwise) PERIOD.

You couldn't be more wrong.  I wouldn't post that statement on any other forum because 100% of the population will disagree with you.   I've played the PS 1&2 and also the original PSO.  The combat in the game is elementary, and so dull that only a child would find it amusing.

Just played it two days ago.  Character creation - physical appearance was pretty cool, allows you to customize characters much more specific than a lot of other mmorpgs.

However, as far as game play is concerned..it came to be a typical grind game in my opinion.  Go upstairs to level 4, kill, then level.  Keep killing, get more money, buy better items.

Combat was not very detailed.  Melee, you button mash.  Range you zoom in and shoot.  But it takes very little skill to shoot a gun.  The cross hair is enormous and leaves a lot of room for error, and doesn't miss often.  No strategy involved whatsoever.  Just have the bigger weapon and armor and you're the best.  Note: It seems as though game designers, by simplifying the game to hack and slash are trying to make the game appeal to very young children - age groups 4-10.

Movement - Can't do anything fancy, just run or walk.  No jump, roll, dive, crouch.

Graphics & Sound FX & Music - poor and repetitive.  Turned it off immediately.

Plain is the best word to describe it, because it'll leave you wanting something more.  I had low expectations for this game so not even meeting expectations really makes this a worse disappointment.

For those of you who refuse to accept my review, I recommend downloading it on 360 for yourself.  To those who want more in an mmorpg, think twice before buying this game.

Graphics 7.0

Sound    4.0

Gameplay 4.0

Replayability 5.0

Overall 5.0/10.0

Dont talk down unless you can say youve read up on this game fully enough to not agree with the options offered. This game is nothing like W.o.W had you read on it before posting youd have known that.

1. There are penalties for death . 3 forms of it.

2. a full pvp system including a full crafting system will be added post launch but dueling and arena combat will be available apon release.

3. pvp should be fun and NOT make you want to quit. Whoever told you while you were growing up that is was fun to beat yourself over the head with a hammer and smile at the pain should be locked away without release.

If you read more closely, I was agreeing with the point made by the topic creator.  And, when did I say anything bad about this game?  I anticipate pvp, but would like to see a full pvp system.  I'm not sure what your point is with #3, because we seem to share the same concensus.

Game Design Flaws

I see two major problems with this game already from reading the FAQs:

#1 The matchmaking (carebear) system :  They made a system to match players up so that each player will win 50% of the time and lose 50% of the time.

#2 The loot generating system : No supply and demand here.  This actually encourages farming in arenas.  Whether you win or lose, you still get something.  And there's no penalty for death, so what's to stop players from abusing this generating system?  Eventually everybody is going to have the same items and equipment.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PvP fun for more players
Online players of FPS games end up dividing into small, isolated populations with the majority returning to single player mode to compensate for the fact that 5% of the overall player base wins 90% of the time and nobody likes consistently losing. Fury supports a very large population without this problem because:

  1. Our matchmaking system uses a rating model so that all players fight against others of similar ability and get to win 50% of the time in exciting close fights.

  2. For those 50% of fights lost, we still provide rewards in terms of character advancement and loot to satisfy the player and give them the incentive to fight again.

Loot
When a player is killed, loot is generated for the killer based upon the abilities and equipment of the dead player. Thus, if you kill a master rogue you might pick up cool twin dragon swords or perhaps chain mail gauntlets whereas if you kill a novice healer you might get basic leather boots or a sphere of healing. However, these items are not dropped by the dead player, they are generated by the system. Thus there is no penalty for death other than the restrictions on re-spawning determined by the game type you are playing in.

Personally I like guild pvp, youcan murder or be murdered of course but there should be a penalty similar to old school UO where you took a 20% stat loss if you were killed, also it took 40 hours of game time to work off each murder.

That's a horrible idea.  That permanent stat loss penalty and 40 hour game time per murder KILLED the game for all lot of PVPers.  Keep in mind that some people actually have a life, and don't have the time to rebuild all of those stats back, nor 40 hours of time to kill per killl.

OMG!

Wow look at all of those polygons.

Reward without risks makes for a very unrealistic, and boring game imo.  How people can stand a game with little to no consequences for dieing is beyond me.  I personally think this game could be even better with a full pvp system put into place.

If you want to farm all day long until it gets boring, and PVP has no meaning until finally it makes you want to quit,  go play WoW, you'll love it.

It's been in open beta for years now, time for them to cash in.  Nobody can maintain a game for free.

This game deserves no higher than a 4.5 in my opinion.  It's fun hack and slash for a week or so, but it becomes boring real fast.  All you do is click and kill.  No strategy to the game whatsover.
