LOL.

Epic review.

I like the part where he/she/it compares many aspects of D3 with D2 and then says D3 doesnt feel very Diablo-ish.

#CANCELPREORDER

But seriously, cmon May 15th! BOOM!

DOOOOOOM!! DOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

Beware the hidden costs! DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!

Etc.

I like that on page 1 someone explained that this post is entirely trivial because you can buy gems from others players with the gold you make ingame, therefore you can get all the bag space and extra character slots you want and it still wont cost you anything more than the price of the box.

Bzzt...wrong! After beta testing AoC, I knew it was shit. SWG didnt interest before it released, I bought it anyway and have never been more disappointed. The hype youre hearing now about GH2 though? The stuff people are saying after actually having been ingame? Thats as real as it gets. Even in its current state, its a damn fine game. Divinity's Reach alone puts any zone in SWG to shame, and its a starter city. It feels alive, its fun to explore, you WANT to see all of it.

The game is big, beautiful and fun.

Hype justified.

but all you really have is leggos.....

Its Lego you infidel.

The word Lego is both singular and plural. You can have a piece of Lego. You can have a box of Lego. Its Lego.

Jesus christ have mercy.

Also, GW2 is awesome.

Metal box! YESSSSS!.

No.

Also, just though of...

IF its a fantasy/magic/etc type of MMO, then Id love to see UO's style of travel. That means Recall, Mark and Gate skills. Including the entire rune/runebook system as well.

My perfect game would include the following:       *disclaimer, this is'nt an exclusive list as there are other things I will forget I want in the game*

  1. No Fed-Ex quests.  Leveling is via Dynamic events like GW2 for solo minded individuals or Questing (only can have 1 quest in your journal at a time) similar to Asherons Call for the Group Minded players.  See the following Link for my ideal type of quest: http://ac.wikkii.net/wiki/Apostate_Citadel or http://ac.wikkii.net/wiki/Monouga_Laboratory are just a sample of the type of in-depth group questing that should be included in my optimal MMO, Not the go kill 10 Reindeer like the bullsh*t that is in Tera.
  2. A loot system that is similar to Diablo and Asheron's Call.  Instead of having the best gear come from raids, the best gear should come from luck of the drop.
  3. Economy that is tied to player created modes, nto one associated with the monetary system of the game.  Instead of having Bind on Pickup and Bind on Aquire you have no binding but the economy becomes tied to gear or alternate currency.
  4. PvP that is similar to DAoC/GW2.
  5. Removal of Capital cities, the world should be alive and the cities should be a place of fellowship and not a hot spot or glorified lobby. *** Much like the cities/towns of UO. There was no ONE major town, you could recall into anywhere and find people, from Cove to Bucc's Den ***
  6. A classless skill based leveling system very similar to Asherons Call but tied to the original GW1 or TSW system of limited number of skills one can have on their combat bars.
  7. Player Made housing set out in the Open World but set up in specific places similar to AC.
  8. No instancing what so ever. *** The instancing for the interiors for player housing as used in SWG worked pretty well... ***
  9. Combat as polished and fun as WoW.

why the heck you want iten decay?

It's "old school".  That's entirely sufficient to overcome the "bad idea" part, to some folks.

Sigh.

Really? Thats all you can come up with as my reasoning for Item Decay?

Also will add the following:

No Bind-On-Pickup / Bind-On-Equip

+

An achievement system along the lines of Rift and EQ2. But not SWTOR. Cause it sucked bollocks.

Hahaha, I like the person that said a game shouldnt have a subscription or a cash shop.

You truly have no idea how things work.

So the Devs will work for free to fix bugs and patch in new stuff. The companies hosting the servers will just write off the data costs for downloads and uploads. Advertising costs will be waived.

Sounds neat.

The skills system of UO

+

Crafting system of SWG Pre-CU

+

The housing of UO and SWG combined (non-instanced housing)

+

The fun-ness of Rift (for me anyway)

+

A hobby system like UO's fishing

+

Item decay

+

Single Character Servers

+

The pvp of DAoC

+

Non instanced dungeons

+

More stuff I cant think of yet...

Zippy is right. This post makes no sense. We arent talking about power leveling, but the Chronicles story has been running for a while, and this dude has just made it to Gloamwood?

I expect many others have a very similar story:

...

I've noticed since playing WoW for all those years, each new game I pick up I barely make it to the level cap before getting burned out and quitting.

WAR ... AOC ... RIFT ... SW:TOR ...

Do you notice a trend? Since WoW you only played WoW or WoW-clones. Small wonder that you think you're burnt out.

Me, I'm firmly in the sandbox/hybrid camp of MMORPG players and haven't played a single of the games you listed above. There are plenty of alternatives. Sure, you will not have that AAA polish, you won't play the latest flavour of the month, you won't play a game where the marketing department has more employees than the developer department - instead you play a gem in the rough.

Fine for me.

I'm interested in knowing what your current list of sandbox/hybrid MMO's is, and what youre currently playing, if anything.

And no, the problem isnt with the player.

The main problem is that there is no more "MM" in MMORPG.

The hardest challenge for me these days is canceling my subscription before that first free month is up.

I had not had any challenges in game from any game since WoW until now.

Sigh. I think I agree with you. Before WoW I played SWG as a crafter, 100%. So for me, it was DAoC. That was the last challenging themepark I played I reckon.

I can remember those days.

I cant remember the name of the dungeon...it was in DAoC, there were all the little mini werewolves right down the bottom...damnit, Im getting old and the memory is slipping. The thing is, to get down there, you could fight your way down or just drop and die and get ressed at the bottom. You'd go down there, set up and start farming (if there were spots available, you gotta remember, back then, dungeons werent instanced, everyone was in there at the same time).

Of course, you could always hearth out, which many did, or there was a gap in a part of the wall that would drop you through the world, thus porting you to the nearest bind stone. Man, good times.

8am, two hours before I have to get ready for work, I have neither shaved, showered or eaten. I am tired, hungry and smell bad. But I have laughed, oh how I have laughed!

Until an english translation/publisher is announced, I simply refuse to get excited about this game.

I think there needs to be epic failures on a massive scale in the MMO industry...as horrible as it would be, Dev studios need to crumble and fall apart so that everyone else in the industry can learn how NOT to do something.

In a way...Im hoping the sub numbers for SWTOR drop dramatically...if even for a short period, enough for BW to lift their heads up and realise they made some extremely critical erros when considering what it is a player wants in an MMO.

Otherwise....other Dev studios will think that 1 million hours of scripted VO cutscenes are the answer to a successful MMO and sacrifice other game systems just like BW did...and worst yet, think its acceptable to fix it later.

I shudder to think that other development studios may also see SWTOR's cinematics as "innovative" and trundle along the same tracks as BW, completely ignoring other fundamental game systems (UI, guild functions, PvP).

The only one I see as being right (though this Foundry thing is intriguing) is ArenaNets WvW PvP system. Its so reminiscent of the early RvR from DAoC...

I gotta say, this was a nice thing to do. I'll keep a heads up in case you do it again :)
