The OP is correct. To play LotRO, you have to install Pando. I wasn't too happy about it either. Fortunately, I didn't have the performance issues as he did or I would have uninstalled it immediately also. |

Banned for "Potential" Account Problem
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 8/06/10 10:03:45 AM
Thanks to those who provided their pious advice. As someone who's livlihood has depended on providing good customer service for the bulk of his 62 years here on this earth, I refuse to accept the poor customer service provided by Turbine. Their heavy-handed treatment of their customers is completely unacceptable. They have completely forgotten who pays their salaries and keeps the servers running. As for those who said my account was temporarily suspended, why does it say when I log into the game that my account is "Banned' and when I log into my account my account status is "Banned"? You need to know what you're talking about before you embaress yourself publicly. To those who accused me of whing, I'm 62 years old and don't have time to whine. What I was doing was venting my frustration at being treated in such a high-handed fashion by Turbine. I have much better things to do with my time than whine. So, as quick as Turbine was to wield the Ban Hammer, I was as quick to wield the Cancel Subscription button. Turbine just lost a subscriber who has been with them since launch. And it was because of the way they choose to treat their customers. |

Banned for "Potential" Account Problem

Originally posted by Swanea No one has my login info but me. I have never shared it with anyone. I guess with LotRO going f2p soon, they don't care about paying customers anymore. |

Banned for "Potential" Account Problem
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 8/05/10 8:00:24 PM
I received an email from Turbine this evening saying that my account has been banned for "potentially being accessed by a third-party". They aren't even sure if my account has been hacked, but that didn't prevent them from lowering the Ban Hammer. I did everything that was in the email that they required to get my account unbanned, submitted the support ticket as required, and then was told that they would get back to me in 3 - 5 days. I've done nothing wrong and now I can't play on my account because they THINK my account was hacked. If I had a new account or there had been problems with my account in the past, I might could understand this knee-jerk reaction on their part. Might be able to. But, I was in the real beta, have been a paying subscriber since launch day, so to me this treatment is over the top on their part. Someone at Turnbine needs a remedial course in customer relations. I'm going to sleep on this, but I'm pretty sure I'll cancel my account in the morning. When a company punishes honest, paying customers, they don't deerve to keep them as customers. In today's world, it's all about customer service, or the lack of it. Ion |

I've used the free version of AVG for years and I've never, not once, had a problem with AVG during the installation of games, inluding RoM. The problem the OP had may indeed be caused by the AV, but don't blame AVG. |

You have to run EQ2 as an administrator. Right click on the EQ2 icon on your desktop, and then selelct "Run as Administrator". You shouldn't have any problemns doing it that way. <edit> I have EQ2 installed on 2 Vista machines. One I run from the Station Laucher and the other from the EQ2 icon. Both ways work fine. I had problems with the Steam launcher like the poster above said, I set up EQ2 to bypass the Steam launcher and didn't have any further problems.<end edit> Ion |

I read the quest texts because it gives me a sense of being in the world instead of just running through it. Unfortunately, most people in groups don't read the text and I find myself still reading while they've run off doing the next step.

There always seems to be a lot of people around in the non-instanced areas. Two of my grandsons are playing as I type this; one in PvP and the other farming for drops. As for the game, its still basically the same game just with a lot more things added throught the xpacs. If you buy the complete box to begin with, there are no more additional outlays of cash required. I would recommend you pulling the trigger and giving it a go.

Dark Age of Camelot: GOA No Longer Publishing DAOC in Europe

GOA simply hosts the servers, the website, billing and customer support for Europe and their service was Crap. 90% of the EU issues with DAOC were all from crap service and billing handling by GOA. No one's arguing that Mythic made a huge set of crap mistakes with War in deciding how to handle its design and layout and its first year but it would of retained atleast some EU community if people weren't scared / angry / biased against GOA because their over all service is terrible. I stand corrected regarding GOA's involvement in the game. However, I stand behind my statement that European gamers who think that just because Mythic will control all aspects of the game that everything will be better will be sorely disappointed. I played DAoC from launch day until about a year after the release of ToA. The imbalances brought about by ToA and Mythic being unable to fix it were the reason I left DAoC. I played WAR from launch day until a couple of weeks ago. I was an ardent supporter of Mythic in the beginning, but after a year realized they had no clue as to how to balance the game. I left WAR for that reason. Also, they were still having game performance problems when I left. Lag was less of a problem a year later, but was still there. It shouldn't take a year to solve this kind of problem. Just more proof that Mythic didn't know what they were doing. EA apparently felt the same way, as they fired Mark Jacobs and put WAR under the Bioware group. One can hope that Bioware can do what Mythic could not. |

Those who think this is a good thing haven't played WAR. Mythic is incapable of fixing anything. You'll be complaining about how Mythic does things in short order. All that will happen is to trade one set of problems with GOA to another set with Mythic. It's a lose-lose situation. |

Dark Age of Camelot: Jeff Hickman on WAR, DaoC and the Future

Jeff, please don't get my hopes up over DAoC if you're not really serious. If I could go back to DAoC pre ToA, with some updating with the good things out of today's MMOs, I'd do it in a flash. Man, just the thought gives me chills. Ion |

I don't why WoW fanbois can't just stay in their forums? What is the compulsion that drives them to troll every other game forum there is. I guess some people are so desparate to be right they will do anything to try to make it come true. Pathetic. |

It's not that great a story, more like Lord of the Rings but with a hell of a lot more words and mind-numbing detail. "Rand thought, "hey, I think I'll start walking." Whereupon Rand lifted his left foot, swung it through the air in front of him, and set it down. "Light! This is incredible. I moved forward half a span. Let me try that again. I hope the Dark One isn't watching. Burn me for even thinking of him." Rand couldn't tell if he was awake or dreaming (HINT: flip a coin, 50/50 chance he's dreaming). Rand pulled his cloak tightly about himself, suddenly cognizant of the way his eyebrow hair was softly blowing in the breeze, how it chafed, and brushed against the hood of his cloak. This eyebrow chafing cloak was grey with 2 small stripes at the end of each sleeve, which were about 4 inches too short for him because Egwene had accidentally peed on his good cloak while practicing to tie knots in flows of the One True Source (aka the One Power, aka The Power, aka the OTS, the Big P, aka the Shizzle on my Nizzle) the night before and he had to borrow one from an ox-cart driver. Oh, that ox-cart driver. If only his whip didn't have so many gouges in it and his cloth wasn't just a notch better quality. He could have driven ox-carts for the Queen. But no matter, Rand thought, 'I'm awake (I think), and walking." Another step. Another half a span closer to my destiny. And by destiny, I mean getting to that inn over there so I can seqway into 20 pages of describing the 43rd pot-bellied innkeeper in this saga, with a white apron and name no one will remember past the next chapter." ROFL!!! It was just this type of writing that made me quit reading long before I got to the end of the series. When Jordan began comparing women's fashions in the different cities, that was it for me. Too bad, because the core of the story was interesing. |

This is a game that I would really like to try, but I've not heard anything good about it's current state. I even bought a copy of the game when someone was selling it for less than $5 US, but have never even opened the box. If anybody can offer positive thoughts on the game, please do. If you have only negative thoughts about it, never mind as I have already read enough of those. |
