Dude, every mmo doesn't come out and blatantly say "we have run out of money" and this all we could get done in 4 years and 40 million dollars.

Yes mmo's are never done , they have expansions that are free or store bought, I will agree with you their, But for the most part they are products that work for a wide range of users over a vast ranger of hardware.

Vangaurd  decided that it is a game of the future (notice they label it that themselves), or is the reality that they are to lazy to make it playable for a wider audience.  Incomplete , The game of the future, which can't even run smoothly now. How far in the future do you think it will be ?? What is the estimated time frame of "this future."  Unlike the die hards , I live in the " now"  when it comes to mmo's. After reading that philosophy I would never support him , what if he got run over tommorrow , o well so much for that future.... Life is to short to be waiting on these people to get their shit together, he has been in the industry for over 20 + years and he still is not able to put out a product that functions for a wide audience.

He is like one of those rock bands that makes it to the big leagues and everytime they play , everyone just says , how the fuck did those guys make it this far. It is typical entertainment, you have that one glorious moment, and then rest of your time you just put out shit. Goes for rock music, music in general , acting  , DJing and now game development.

You guys are way to easy on some thing but try to pass off that your a big gamer by playing a game made by a certain rock star. W.T.E.

from Brad McQuaid himself  "People ask me, 'are you launching a finished game?' and the answer is 'no, we're launching a game that is good enough to launch, but it's not finished.' And that's why I love these games: because they should never be finished."

That is probably one of the worst philosophies I've ever read. This seems like a man trying to dumb down the player 's expectations. Seriously , this is horrible .... Think I will steer clear of most anything he does.

One of the worst and most restricted MMORPGs around.

Its not really a MMORPG.

Its an adventure game that you have to pay for.

They made one big extreme mess of this.

The stench of the die hard ! Quick warning to future flamers, you are about to take on some of the best troll s of these forums because a lot of people liked the beta and have very good reviews that are objective, instead of  "this is the greatest game ever" LoTro is not the greatest game but it is a good game right now , and we will see if it can maintain itself up to launch.

I want to touch on game mechanics, becuase Vanguards has almost the exact same system. The only games i've played without this kind of system was AO . EVE and Shadowbane with it's point based system. Totally not flaming the op but it seems he doesn't like any of the games out with this system ?

Excellent review . The negatives he listed are correct, but for my personal preference has always been about aristic design and over art direction.

Traits to me are cool, not everyone is going to have the same combination, and i'm not even sure how many different traits there are to equip, so for me this a new feature from any other mmo I've played.  As far as skills , yes a lot of people will have the same, but they all won't be joining the fellowship on your journeys through middle earth so I feel it is pretty balanced system for a normal mmorpg player .

For me I love the combat animations and how the battles are played . Like the over all feel of how the combat system works now , even though I didn't at first meaning, you have to use one skill successfully to beable to use another. I now find it cool that some skills can only be activated when a mob dies, such as my Captain's healing skill. That makes the battles fun and exciting for me.

For mob animation , design  and  A.I. to meis good. I Found the mobs to have a very fluid sense to them and they seemed to be very well scripted. I do beleive mobs can heal themselve a.k.a the last battle sequence for the keys in Great Barrows , that mob was constantly regenerating it's health. Also the archer mobs don't run to you , you have to run to them orr they will just shoot you until your dead.

For the most part great review , great critiquing, please post it on the LotRo official forums .

I would have to say No, only becuase it was a 5 year series. End of  Plot. The station is no longer floating in space.

And before you say Well that would be the same thing with lotro, yes and no. With LotrO you read about mass amounts of people, elves, dwarves and ect battling for middle earth, these leaves you a chance to become one of thoses beings in the epic story . So yes the story is already written but it you have the chance to carve your little niche with in the 100,000s of beings that helped all the main character free middle earth.

B5 has a few very elite characters and alot of what they did never really steamed into any really epic moments like LotrO

Already been posted. I've never turned to gamespy for real reviews. Certainly anyone who churns out a review of a MMORPG after only two weeks is not to be taken seriously - True professionals like gamespot take a month or more to review MMORPGs.

They're also full of shit with "uninspired graphics" - It's a stylistic choice to go for realistic high fantasy, and it looks awesome on highest settings.
Obviously that's someone who didn't spend time getting around to see what is really out there, nor do they recognize the beauty inherent in Vanguard's realistic environments.

You can keep your candyland WoW graphics.

Damn right! About time we had a serious MMO with serious graphics for serious-minded people. Wait, what's this...

Their is has been a lot of great feed back which is positive from people playing in beta. Yes a few more bugs tht will be expected because they are increasing the world but for the most part I can play it non stop with out hassle. The word about the mp v  player is positive and their seems to being heading in the right direction. Somethings that haven't been talked about are the pvp , which is more like deuling, You ask any player in any area if they would like to deul , that eliminates the gankfest syndrome,

The world is a fairly nice size ( which reminds me of how lineage 2 started , and we see how well that game grown in mass), and with the instances that doubles the worlds playability. The UI is pretty nice as well and the ability to use the ctrl+\ just added to the overall tweaking ability of the game.

Turbine is doing a stellar job at moderating the community and listening to what constructive ideas players have.

The one thing I wish they would improve and it is still beta is the night sky. As you can see by my avatar I like outer space so for me the night sky is one of my minus points so far.

If i can't have my ox and cart , i would rather have this.

There are over 100k people playing right now.  I have to say this has been a great roll out as MMOs go. The game performance has improved considerably, and it's a blast to play. Bugs are there but are being addressed nearly daily. I'm having a great time.
soory to burst your bubble but they lumped in the prior beta accounts with that number. Myself personally have 4 characters listed on their character site as lvl 1

"this game is not for everyone " "it is for the hardcore" "you computer is crap" "go back to  wow"

That is his review , with an added we can chop wood together. Personally I like to chop wood alone, but if you like to share your wood with strangers be my guest.

Ok let us dwell on the wood . I've chopped the tree down , Hmm how d I carry it to the saw mill.. ... wait !  Where is the saw mill to refine your wood.  Is thier saw mill to refine your wood, nope . Magically you can transform a chopped tree into a neat little bundle of wood and stack it up , Piles of wood which would weight many many pounds, in your neat lil inventory . Not so revolutionary when you dissect  it. Very little though in the wood process other then the animation of character chopping a tree.

hmm seems I could of had a dragging animation to a saw mill which would of thrown this game into a totally new realm of crazy  with truly hard core knucky gamers. imagine cause this game was suppose to facter actual travel time, you could of had an ox and cart, you go around and cut tree and put them in your cart, then the cart goes to the mill and your lumber is made. Player sized vaults would have to be created  so they could story the lumber so they could use it later for their houses.. That would just be part of your everday thing, until your friends came and wanted to go for an adventure

The  possibilities  of creating your own saw house and and having other players come to you for work orders. Then instead of having npc work order you would have work orders crafted by players to give to other players (eliminating npcs at later levels) who had the specific crafting skill.  Thats hardcore

Again, I expected that kind of feature from all the hoopla that was spewed out from the past 4 years .

From this review, Vanguard sounds like EXACTLY what I have been yearning for the past several years. I can certainly put up with some bugs and glitches if the game is made much more hard core then all the "hold you by the hand every step of the way" mmos of years recent.

It actually sounds like a lot of challenge and a helluva lot of fun.

IS there PvP and what is it like if there is?

I am seriously considering purchasing this game ASAP even with the bugs and helping to support this game that seems to be taking a risk and making a bold statement vs the likes of WOW clones these days.

Thanks for the solid and honest sounding review!

die hard

I feel the SoE adverts wok at hand. How the heck can you buy something that isn't remotely complete. Wait, Brads work is so good that you just know it will be aswome in a year ? I might die tomorrow , and never see the game for what it Could be, so I die with what i've played, I die hard. Blind cult following , priceless.

Missing from that length advert is the word "fun"

Hey now, don't hate brotha, just don't play it.
Sorry man , I forgot to add on of dee's

Also , that is a paid spot . Prime time Sony ninja style add placement .

It's just not "complete" in relation to how much they were planning to put into the game, which was a very bold vision.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Not as complete as in still in beta. Bold as in rehashed ideas with no innovation or even so much as refinement put into the "bold vision". If VG is a 3rd gen title then I am Donald Trump.

it is impossible to fight the die hard.  They clinch the keyboards with their last dieing breath and type in Vangaurd chat window  " IT IS A GOOD GAm......." and we all just look at him and say  "what a knucklehead" (vf 2) (that is not a troll ,that is just what we would say)

That is a pretty well written review by a soe . It is very linear , and doesn't quite talk about the game art and design .  It is aswome that he can seemingly see thru everything negative and say it is a great game, that is what your call die hard .
