I am comparing lotro world to VG. And seriously, lotro is simply not exploration game. I am as well subscribing to lotro and I enjoy to play it from time to time. I think lotro's main point is the overall atmosphere, but surely not exploration. Just the fact you have linear instanced zones for epic books means it goes against free-exploration in the terms I understand it.

Dude lol, you are describing beta 1 ... LotrO open world is just that open, I can run all over the place. I cut through the lone lands into the back end of chetwoods to get into North Downs, the world is very much explorable. There is no chunking either when going from zone to zone it is smooth and seamless. LotrO does use instancing but it is an additive, and it doesn't over take the game world like in AoC. LotrO is the best balance of Instancing and open world to date.

Vanguard is a completely different game design and theory all together. Comparing the 2 games is simply unrealistic. It would be impossible to have the Lord of the Rings story in a game design like Vanguards, simply because the story is bigger then the game.

All have valid points, but the difference is, Vanguard has pulled itself out of the gutter, and becoming a cult classic.

I really can't see AoC becoming anything like that specially being made for the 360. It is a massive commercial pile that a massive commercial  audience wants, blood boobs and easy mode game play.

The trash mobs in raids in AoC are harder than most raid bosses in LotRO, true story.

LotRO is not a hard core game, it is met for casual players who want the thrill of playing online with other people. I'm curious how hard a monster player in your raid dungeon makes the raid ? Does AoC have monster players in dungeons ? You seem to want to bait me in some kind of flame off, the simple truth is, yes AoC probably has tougher mobs then LotRO, but the the 2 games mechanics , theory and developers are entirely worlds apart. One developer is AAA , the other is pile pusher. I will giive 6 months to figure it out.

Another aspect of Vanguard, the community spoke, Sigil closed, and SOE took over, the SOE safety net. With this safety net Vanguard has been able to slow get better.

AoC has no safety net, it is a do it or die situation , if the AoC community does what the VG community did , AoC , Funcom and Anarchy will be gone, Funcom has pumped so much money on adveertising and gimmicks it is a do  or die by Christmas. If the 360 Version is delayed , it is die time. This AoC community has no Idea how much power they have right now. The only way for AoC to succeed is to stick with it and not desub .

LotRO made it, it is a year and half out now, with an xpac coming, Vanguard made it with safety net, AoC ........

Great read. Graphically , I found the game cluttered. The atmosphere of the game as well was just not present either.

Again good review

Think people want that style of graphics but in a open world setting , Vanguard gives that to them... After playing AoC and being dossapointed with the instancing, I had an urge to play Vanguard, simply because of the graphics in AoC..

What is the point to that press release ? To insure the buddy key holders they are screwed for even longer.

I also read into that statement a little and it would seem they don't have the proper server architecture to handle  the load. More funcom talks the more they look like noob developers, I am really wondering if Brad Mcquaid is not working for them ....

One of these images is Vanguard....

LotrO is not "next gen" graphically, but some the games mechanics, epic story quests, community and AAA developing team make up for that small 1% of what a game is about. 1% graphics and 99% content

There is truth in this, but as an mmorpg , the game fails .

This simply isnt true at all ... LotR had exactly the same problems you and others complain about when talking about AoC right now.

Start was polished but after that ...

  • It was a pain to level when you got above 38 since they didnt't had enough quests ready
  • Most high level quests where labeled wrong
  • Itemization was (and still is) poor
  • It had a meaningless Tradeskill system
  • No housing in
  • I could go on ...

Did I enjoyed it ... yes and I enjoy AoC

One the LotrO box @ launch

1. Adventure through 50 level with thousands of character customizations possibilities = in the game @ launch

2. Explore 350 Authentic Land marksin over 50 million meters of Middle Earth = in the game@ launch

3.Choose from 4 races, 7 classes, 10 professions and 7 vocations = in the game @ launch

4.interact with over 2,200 Quest givers and battle 2,500 monsters = in the game @ launch

5.manage over 1000 titles, skills and traits: over 10,000 unique Items = in game @ launch

6.Use in-game mail, guild management tools, intergrated vioce chat, instant messaging, and moreto connect to other gamers = in game @ launch

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Housing was created for the community who really wanted it in the game. Turbine had no plans for housing at launch and by the 3rd update , we had housing.

High level quests labeled wrong ? examples ?

Itemization is your opinion .

"A meaningless trade skill system " really, again meaningless , meaning your opinion, not fact.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Turbine has proven they can learn to fulfill what the community desires with massive updated to how the Barber system, as well as the costume system,  no other game developer has ever come close to the massive work that Turbine does with the community to make a game great and playable for "everyone"

A lot of folks like myself just felt cheated with the game after all the bots around, server merge is going to condense the bots even more and NcSoft will finally have to make a move ease the populations

The devs are working , they were also very much interetsed in how it would turn out

Funcom has had 5 years to get it right. Times up imo.
