John Smedley is on record as saying the release is likely 2015 so I wouldn't expect to see the public alpha before the early part of next year at the soonest. Landmark should be giving them a great head start though. Pretty certain it's the same engine for both games and the world building tools should work for EQN too. The development time should be greatly accelerated compared with other games through having Landmark to build on.

Only thing I came up with was that SOE filed a trademark on January 10, 2014 for an online game.

H1Z1.

Don't see how zombies / infected would make former SWG players "come home".

I'm sure more speculation will turn up at some point.

Well done. The only person to make an accurate prediction.

And to those who think that the Repopulation will be the natural successor to SWG, you are in for a rude awakening. I made that mistake myself and wasted $100 by pledging towards the project only to discover once I could read the forums, It will be a very different game to SWG with PvP being the main focus and PvE players having to settle for a second rate version of the game. I no longer have any interest at all.

Around ten people in our GW2 guild played the beta initially and an ESO guild was planned for when the game goes live but after a few weekends, everyone has decided to give the game a miss, P2P is a big turn off for a start, we've all got lots of F2P and B2P alternatives available now.  Nobody can see the game being any good long term and certainly not worth a monthly sub.

I'm sure we are fairly typical. Only a fraction of people trying the game in beta will become long term subscribers. It will be F2P or B2P by the end of the year.

I've got so many F2P and B2P games on my hard drive, it would take something truly exceptional to tempt me to take out a  monthly subscription to a game ever again. I don't think either of these games comes remotely to being that one. I've not even bothered trying to get into the beta tests.

I'm very happy playing the EQNL alpha for now. It's a breath of fresh air.

You can thank me publicly, right here.

Yeah and that's been there since day one so I'm not sure the OP is even in the alpha. The grouping and chat plans for the future have been well publicised too.

I tried  installing it on my backup PC, which is has a core 2 duo 3200 processor and is running Win XP 32 bit. It wouldn't install at all. It started downloading the main files and then stopped, giving an error message.

Admittedly, I didn't investigate whether it was a firewall problem or something as I don't really need it on that machine. I was just curious to try it out.

However, SOE have stated it is strictly a 64 bit game going forward, so I wouldn't risk paying out any money if you haven't got a 64 bit operating system.

I consider myself an asset as an alpha(which they USED to call beta before beta became what they used to call stress testing) who actually does real testing.  I am not going to pay for the privilege of said.  They can pick me or not.

It seems REALLY DUMB to me to charge for people testing your game.  All you will get that way is voyeurs.  You want skilled testers: people who will actually try to break things and report on how things can be broken.

If you aren't making bug reports frequently then you aren't doing your job as a tester or it is one heck of a polished game (this is assuming you are in the game early enough to make a difference).

What your post suggests to me is that you're a serial alpha/beta tester who applies to join every new game going in the testing phase, whilst convincing yourself that your the worlds gift to gaming developers.

If you'd have done the most basic research into EQNL, you'd have realised you're just the sort of person they don't want in their alpha phase. You've used the word "Testing" or "Tester" five times in your short post whereas that's not what the EQNL alpha phase is about at all. Testing in the sense you mention will come later in the beta stages. For now, they only want people who are genuinely passionate about the game to play the game as far as it's been developed so far and to give their opinions and suggestions of how the game should evolve. Of course we can report bugs but that's not the main focus at all. I don't even know how to report a bug come to think of it.

Everyone in the EQNL alpha phase has paid $60-$100 dollars to do so. There are no free wheelers at all. Only people with a genuine interest in the success of the game are welcome at this stage of development.

People who buy the settler pack get access to closed beta and recieve their items on March 31st. I assume March 31 will either be closed beta or release based on this?

https://www.eqnlandmark.com/founders-pack

That's just the start of closed beta. We don't know how long it will last and then there's likely to be an open beta after that I'd have thought. People talking about the game being released in two or three months time are talking out of their backsides. It's likely to be nearer the end of the year than the beginning.

A brave move considering how many bugs were around on the first day but it certainly shows they're confident of fixing things fairly quickly.

Why is landmark even on mmorpg.com.  Its hardly an mmo and hardly an rpg...if at all.

In any case, finally an ALPHA launch of a game that is supposed to lead into the REAL mmo in EQN...Alpha, then how long until beta?  And then how long after that do we have to wait until the actual game of EQN releases?  Not going to see EQN for probably 1-2 years.  Give up all hope that we see it in 2014..if we are lucky 2015.

The more emphasis placed on EQ:L and how slowly its going, the less interested I am in EQN.

I'm sad to say I agree.  I could care less about EQ:L and I don't see EQN release anytime soon.  I don't know if the other readers don't understand the difference between the two, or just possessed by stupidity, but EQN is the real MMO sandbox to wait for.  EQ:L is just a distracting money grab.  Keep it.

CU next year... THX bye.............

I doubt if SOE are worried about ESO. It won't be around for long in any meaningful way. After three months it will be all but dead the same as every other P2P game released in the past few years.

Sorry Smed but i think Repopulation will give me more SWG feel than you can.

So to burst your bubble, but the Repopulation will be a total bust for almost all SWG players.  It has some features, but then goes all hardcore with its PVP.  It will not be anything like SWG.  Until I see a working economy in a game that has many social features, its another Earthrise, insert other games recently that have said what they intend to be like.

Says the one guy, seriously though... you haven't a clue because what you said is complete BS. There is normal servers do your homework and it is exactly like SWG since it has half the devs...

kind of curious, but what parts of the Repop are you saying is exactly like SWG, because i havent seen it, and just for the moment ignoring the whole game engine issue, the game is based on PvP, which SWG oddly enough was not, so unless its possible to be neutral in Repop where nobody can attack you, which is something the crafter community in SWG and probably the entertainer one too, almost certainly was, then thats a very definite difference. As for the dev's comment, unless they were the ones there during the creation of SWG, rather than post launch, then its a meaningless comment.

I was taken in by all the talk of the Repopulation being like SWG too. leading to me pledging $100 towards the project back in 2012. I've realised since it was a big mistake as it won't be much like SWG at all.

It's true, the devs have said the crafting, economy and trading is heavily influenced by the systems in SWG and Vanguard. It will also have player cities, vehicles, shops and vendors. Unfortunately, then comes the big BUT.....................

All this is negated for PvE players as they only have access to a third of the the world if they want to avoid PvP. There is no flagging system as SWG had, so the only way to avoid PvP is to stay in your nations home area. If you are a PvE player looking forward to having a player city, open world home, player owned shop and vendors as a PvE player, you are out of luck as these are only available in the contested (PvP) areas. Instead, PvE players are offered some crumbs with instanced housing and some kind of auction house/ work order system for selling their crafted goods.

This all on the normal server. There is no PvE server. There IS going to be a hardcore server though with no safe areas at all.

Devs having previously worked on SWG? I've not seen that claimed on the official site, although I can't say definitively that it's not true. I do know some of the main people have said they never played SWG though and the games that are more often mentioned are Ultima online and Shadowbane.

From what I remember from my times in SWG, the majority of the players were mainly interested in the PVE aspects. Those people are going to be sorely disappointed if they start to play the Repopulation. I don't see many of them staying around for long if the game launches as it's designed now. I regard the money I pledged as money wasted and a lesson to do more research before falling for the hype in future. I have recently also pledged money to EQNL though, so I hope this proves to be a better choice that leads to EQN being more to my liking and who knows, this mystery MMO from SOE too?

As others have said, most of the games mentioned so far are actually fairly good games whether people liked them or not.

For a truly bad, bug ridden game, I would nominate Roma Victor. Almost as soon as I logged in for the first time, I left the starting village to explore and got stuck in the middle of a field, There I stayed. Other players were having the same problem and it took the devs a couple of weeks to fix it. I gave them the benefit of doubt as it was a small, Indy producer and would log on every couple of days to see if it had been fixed. Eventually it was but I found the rest of the game was similarly bug ridden and had to give up on it.

Earthrise and Gods and Heroes were pretty bad too but were still in beta when I played them.

That's Qubicle Constructor, the basic version is free.

You can't export anything with the free version though. For that, you need one of the paid versions.

Explorer.

I was prepared to pay for alpha access but don't see the additional bonuses given out to Trailblazers to be worth an extra $40. I'm not really interested in cosmetic items and titles. The only really useful item for me is the bracer giving a bonus to crafting results.

I might change my mind and upgrade to Trailblazer after seeing how everything works in alpha of course.

they would do it for free ??

you think they will work and add actual contents based on charity ? guild war 2 got a okay cash shop but not one who require the player to buy from it all the time,so im guessing they get not that much money from it......

you guy wanted FREE TO PLAY ? well you got it, but they are not working for add contents because no one work for free...

back to my P2P game i guess

Funny. As far as I recall, expansions have always been paid for in every game I've played whether p2p, f2p or btp . I'd be interested to know which p2p game you play gives away it's full expansions?

Will these "Founder Packs" ultimately transfer to EverQuest Next, e.g., Titles, Bonus Items, etc.?

Did they ever mention this?

No they won't. They're two separate games.  EQN may have something similar at a later date nearer to release though.

If you do every quest in a region, sure you will be overleveled. But OTOH, if you just do enough quests to get the deed (which is what I usually do), you won't, even with the VIP bonus. Even doing a few more.

For instance, I just finished Forochel and hit 50. Did I do every quest? No, but I did quite a lot.

....and this is the point so many people miss. There is way more content available than you need to level a character. If you try and complete everything, you WILL be way over levelled for the content at any given time and it WILLbe ridiculously easy. The answer is simply to pick and choose which content to use in order to be levelling on content you're happy is challenging enough for yourself. It's not rocket science.

Personally, I do every story quest and most of the normal quests in each region until everything is green to me and then I move on. Some people would no doubt find that too easy but I love being able to take on five enemies at once. I'd rather that than be dying all the time trying to kill one or two red mobs. It's just down to personal choice, not a fault with the game.

LotRO has always been very easy for the first twenty levels and gets harder after that. How much harder is entirely dependent on how you yourself choose to play the game.

There is far more content available than is needed to level up a character so if you are the type of person who feels compelled to finish every quest available to you, you'll end up tackling most of them when on, or more likely over the level of the quest and they will be very easy. However, if you make a point to miss out many of the non story line quests and forge ahead so that you are only tackling quests that are orange or red, I can assure you, you won't be finding them easy mode.

Like all so called F2P games in reality, it's a Freemium game and unless you are a complete Scrooge, you should expect to spend some money on quest packs to keep you going until Moria. After that you can buy the expansions, which include all the quests you need. The best deal is to buy the quad pack from the LotRO store. For $39.99 you get Moria, Mirkwood, Isengard and Rohan. If you buy that straight away, you'll get extra character slots, access to the Runekeeper and Warden classes and a mount.

It's also worth paying one months VIP fee of $14.99 to upgrade to a premium account right from the start, as it permanently unlocks some useful features you'll need but will cost more if you buy them as extras in the store.

I think there's a lot of us losing interest in this game now. I pledged $100 back in 2012 when it was slated for a 2013 release but  not even closed beta is set to start before 2014 now.

The worst thing of all though, is many of us were expecting this game to be the closest thing to SWG we've seen for years. We were told it has PVE and PVP, complex crafting, housing, shops, player cities etc. Play it the way you like. Look at the front page of the game overview on their site:

"It is a sandbox oriented MMORPG with an eye on innovation. Rather than forcing players down preset paths they are instead allowed to walk the path which they enjoy the most. With a variety of combat oriented and non-combat activities to pursue, we believe we’ve created a game that can stand the test of time."

In fact, It's gradually become clear to me that it is not even close to SWG when it comes to the things I'm most looking for in an mmorpg. As I understand it now:

There is no PvP flagging system. If you are a player solely interested in PVE, you'll have to stick to your own faction's home region. If you leave that area, other factions can attack you on sight.

You want to be a top crafter? You'll need to go to the contested zones for the best resources and risk being attacked on sight.

You want your own player city? You'll have to built it in the contested zone where it can be attacked and destroyed or taken over

You want non instanced housing? It will have to be part of a player city, where it too can be lost.

You want a shop? It too will have to be in a player city at risk of attack.

None of this was made clear in the game overview when I pledge money towards the game. If it had have been, I wouldn't have done it. Like others, I've raised my concerns about these things in the official forums but the hard core bunch of people who inhabit those will shout you down saying it's a PvP game.

Basically I realise now, this game is actually the closest thing to PotBS when I look at other games I've played in the past. It's going to make exactly the same major mistake, which is forcing PvE players to become the cannon fodder content for PvP players. and it's likely to end up a car crash just like PotBS if it's not made more PvE friendly.
