Seems like BS to me.

I mean there might be 1 or 2 guys that might cry after getting banned for hacking, but most will just spit on them for getting them banned and re-do it.

The Archeage forums were full of bull shit excuses from people after they were caught and banned. They probably moved onto H1Z1 and tried it again.

I've been playing since the first day of Alpha nearly a year ago. It's got to be doing something right for me to stick it out that long. With most games I quit after the first month or two.

It's noticeable that most of the complaints people are making against the game here are based on old information. It's true Trion and XL Games have made a pretty poor effort  of managing the game a lot of the time but gradually things have been fixed. Gold selling spam has just about gone, bots have just about gone, hackers have all just about gone. The result is that prices have been coming down considerably and anyone doing regular trade pack runs can easily earn enough to buy Apex to play the game for free. I don't even need to do that. My farms earn me enough to buy all the Apex I need for two accounts.

It's absolute garbage for people to say you have to spend real money in the shop all the time to play the game. You can use the shop to speed progress up if you want but it's not essential. The only time I  used real money was when the game first launched, first of all to buy the two founders packs I have and then I bought a few Apex to get some gold to buy the resources I needed to build my farms, clipper, house. Since then, I've only used it to buy the upgrades for my farm carts and the Land expansion certificate for my two Gazebos. I didn't have to do any of those things though. It was my decision because I wanted them straight away and not to have to wait while I earned in-game gold to do the same thing.

The other spurious claim I keep reading here is the game is dead/dying. It's absolutely not. I play on both a NA server and and an EU one. Both have very healthy populations, the chat channels are busy 24/7. The farms around mine are mostly being used daily by the same people who have been there since launch. If there has been any decline in the population, my guess it's the freeloaders who were trying unsuccessfully to play the game without contributing any money at all are the ones who left. You can often see who these people are because they are accusing the game of being P2W when what they are really objecting to is having to actually pay any money at all to play the game. Archeage is no different to other F2P games. You can play without spending any money at all if you want but just spending a little bit makes the game more enjoyable.

Having read through all these responses, I've got to say my heart stopping moments have nothing to do with anything anyone else has mentioned.

The thing is, in real life, I hate heights and even in a game, I get a queasy feeling in my stomach if I have to do risky stuff at a great height. Jumping puzzles are always a problem. So my most recent heart stopping event was playing...........wait for it............................................ Trove!

Like many people, once I got started with the building system, I felt the urge to build a tower, and by a couple of days ago it was around sixty blocks high I guess. I believe the limit is 100 blocks but even sixty was enough to get me up in the clouds and it was snowing. So there I was, walking backwards adding a block at a time to the central core, when suddenly, I slipped. Well, dying means nothing in Trove, I'm not even sure you can die from a fall. I haven't yet but my instinctive reaction was to scream extremely loudly at the thought of my impending death. The stupid thing is, I had been building a surrounding platform every five blocks so in the end I only fell a short distance but my instincts told me to expect otherwise.

I felt really silly after and wondered if any passers by outside the house had heard my scream and called the cops. Fortunately they hadn't.

It's not that similar to SWG and I don't think the developers worked on SWG either, although I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong. The game they often talk about and seem most influenced by is actually Shadowbane.

I really liked the game at launch, we formed a guild with people at the core who already knew each other from previous games and built it from there to have over a hundred members. We all expected to play it for some time and would have done if they'd have had regular expansions the way they did with the original GW.

However, when it became apparent there was no expansion on the horizon, people started drifting away so within nine months or so, the guild had died in-game and now we even only have a handful of people left on our members forum to discuss other games we're playing. I don't think any of us still play GW2 and although we are aware an expansion has finally been announced, I don't think I've seen a single post from someone saying they're looking forward to it. I can't see us playing it as a guild again, the game had it's chance with us and blew it.

We've moved on and I believe the game most of us are looking forward to now is EQN but of course even that has some uncertainty about it after last weeks events.

I'm surprised DMKano didn't suggest Archeage. It's exactly the kind of game you describe. It's got PvP when you want it but when you don't, there are plenty of safe areas for exploring, farming, sailing, trading, housing you can furnish, fishing, mining, questing and lots more.
If the PvP is non consensual I won't have the slightest interest no matter how good the crafting and other content is.

I am giving a pause to this game atm because I have trouble getting good performance in this game. If I turn options down untill i get decent fps, the game has very annoying graphics. The ground especially then makes my eyes hurt :p

So I probably will check back after a few optimization updates.

Apart from that, the only thing I have issues with is the way pvp is set up. I was hoping originally for pvp solely based on pvp flag like in SWG. Now they have this whole zone where it is forced pvp. I think that it is a mistake with the skill system they put in place. Any specialised non combat toon will be seriously gimped in those areas and made an easy target for griefers, so you will just see a concentration of players with combat specialisations in that area.

I am afraid with such a specific pvp zone, that you will barely get any spontaneous pvp in the faction cities and surroundings.

I know why some think it is needed, because of the player cities in contested zones. But it is not. Nations could have such a pvp flag system too. To be able to declare war on other nations, with their citizens always having the pvp flag turned on towards that other nation.

Now the map is so compartimentalized, it breaks immersion for me. I really think they took a bad thing from themepark MMO's with this. The solution to divide the map based on this instead of nations choice and player choice, is just bad design imo. You don't need forced pvp zones, just players that want to pvp and there are always enough of those. Even more if pvp is not forced.

Uhh, different ruleset servers?

There's no PVE servers planned, unless anything's changed since I stopped reading their forums. It's just a choice between mainly PvP with  some limited PvE areas, or hardcore forced PvP servers This is the reason why many people including myself lost interest once they found out it didn't have much in common with SWG after all.

I don't have any problems with the cash shop. That's the way modern games get their funding. The P2P model is all but dead. I've spent a bit of real money in the cash shop but nothing excessive and am quite happy I got good value for money.

On the other hand, I can't believe how Trion has allowed spamming, hacking, griefing, scamming and cheating to go relatively unchecked. It seems they're not prepared to put the resources needed to keep the game running how it should. As for XL Games, why the hell haven't they opened up some of the unused areas to housing and farmland for all the people who have paid for patron and are missing out on a major part of the game because they can't get any decent land?

Anyone who bought into this game will have been warned:

"Early Access Game

Get instant access and start playing; get involved with this game as it develops.

Note: This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development."

It seems someone missed it.

A lot of games seem to be relying on Reddit and Twitter nowadays. I suppose it's cheaper for them but I much prefer an in-house forum.
I think they should put tanks in the cash shop. I'd buy one of them  :)
As long as SOE fix stuff like this and don't let it run and run like Trion/XL Games have with Archeage, there shouldn't be a problem. Discovering bugs and hacks are what alphas are supposed to be about.

The price was announced a while ago. I certainly knew what it was going to be before today.

edit. In fact it was here on this site over a month ago:

New login hardware due to come online in around twenty minutes time.

I'd have had a pretty lean year game wise in the past twelve months if it wasn't for EA. I've had Landmark, The Repopulation, Archeage, Trove, Elite Dangerous, The Forest and later today H1Z1. In fact, the only game that was finished when I started playing was Middle Earth - Shadow of Mordor.

Unfortunately, it's true, I actually ended up spending ,more on games than in most years but I still prefer it to the old lottery system of whether I could get into testing of a game I was interested in.

Hopefully it will be heavy PvP. There won't be any point to play it otherwise.

That struggle of having to survive against computer controlled zombies, lmao.

That's what a lot of people say about Archeage but it's just demonstrating their prejudices. In fact, only around 40% of Archeage players play the game mainly for PvP according to a recent user survey on their forums. I suspect H1Z1 will be the same now we know there will PvE servers. Like many others, I had no interest in this game until I learned that, Now that I do know, I'll be getting the January 15th Early Access package.

I got in the open beta for this late summer 2006, took a lifetime sub at release and I've been playing it on and off ever since. I've played all the AAA mmos that have released since then but always return at least once a year. Many of my original kin still play it and have continuously for the past eight years. It's definitely the best mmorpg overall in that time for me. There's just an unbelievable amount of content.

On their home page for this title, it still has a "steam early access" coming soon up. Certainly a pay to beta scheme. If it's completely intact, I will probably give it a look.

Look ^^^ quoting myself. Admittedly didn't do my research, thought the game looked interesting from the first announcement and the few videos I've seen. Just did my homework and realized this game will be F2P model....../kindly bows out. Hope you all enjoy the game, completely done with F2P models.

Better face it, you're not going to have many alternative games to play if that's how you think. This post made me think back over the past ten years and I can't think of a single mmo I've played in that time that's still only P2P. They all have a F2P option now., apart of course from the ones that had to close down.

So basically, if I understand correctly, the player has scammed Trion for the value of 43 Apex and is being given the opportunity to pay for them. It seems fair enough to me. Better than being prosecuted for fraud which is what could be an alternative outcome.
