Nope

so far they're all just " going to be good"

Well the "Kickstarter outpouring" started around 2012 and sadly decent MMO's aren't created in 2 years especially with the size of these indie teams with obvious funding issues.

Just a reminder for the few who want to understand the why instead of sarcastically spewing the why nots.

I'm not familiar with any successfully funded MMO on Kickstarter  where the MMO wasn't already at least 2-4 years into development.

The only one I can think of might be RG's project, but they seem like they were already reasonably into development as the Kickstarter video shows playable content.

If a KS campaign got funded and there wasn't already a couple years of development to show for it, I am curious what kind of approach they used to get an in-concept MMO project funded. Do you have a link to any of those?

I'm in Shroud of the Avatar and it's definitely not a hoax, is a good game getting better each patch. It will definitely get released as a finished product, no doubt about that. And as you said, it's at least a game you got gameplay videos before they asked you for money, unlike many others which are only wishes and promises.

I'm also looking forward to Shroud of the Avatar.

Loktofiet, a good example would be Camelot Unchained. The kickstarter was launched from just an idea with no screenshots or videos to supplement the campaign.

Camelot Unchained had an entire team working on the project and prototypes of several systems already publicly available at the time of the KS campaign. They also said Camelot Unchained is launching in 2015. Either they did have a good bit of development time under their belt, or they'll be the first ones to make or break your statement that a decent MMO isn't created in 2 years. Looking forward to the outcome of that.

My point is whether the team has been together or not no meaningful progress can be had without funding. There can be a team that's been together for 2 years and in that time drew up all kinds of neat idea's and panned out what direction they want to go in. It's still going to take atleast 3 years to develop a decent fully operational MMO (and this is with a large team)

Op wanted to know what kickstarter MMO's have been completed and my point was given the time some of these MMO's received their funding there shouldn't be any completed.

As somebody mentioned earlier, Camelot Unchained might be the only exception because there is hardly any PvE which cuts time and cost down significantly. This won't break my statement...

But they will have a cash shop...

Vanity items in which players can sell to other players.

I don't agree with taking the link down for the site because it's not your job to protect people from possible bad decisions. I am in no way saying your game is a scam or support people that do scam however, I believe as a consumer it's my responsibility to make the best possible choices when investing or making a purchase.

With that being said, I will be watching this game and if removing the link was the first step in a attempt to appease the people of this site you have several miles worth of steps to go if you catch my drift... good luck.

Wow smh, no wonder I am, so disliked around these boards...

Nobody looks out for each other in today's Socieity.

let me guess,, you are a FFA PvP gamer huh? You play EvE?

Exposed, I try to make it a point to try all sandbox games plus it's known iv been outspoken about ffa pvp and responded to some of your ridiculous threads, so your question is just a ruse. Secondly, calling every developer a scammer isn't in anyway "helping" anybody in on this site or our society.

Please keep in mind we aren't talking about buying property or vehicles here, this is a video game and 30 bucks isn't going to ruin anybody. Again, I do not support scams I just want people to use their brains. I think everyone can agree donating at this point of development is not a sound decision but did we really need to take down the link? How about not clicking the link and waiting for more tangible evidence of an actual game.

P.S I for one, don't dislike you and additionally don't need you to look out for me... but Thanks.

I seriously want to start making a guild for Camelot.

Anyone down to get rolling on one early and gain a huge following?

Depends on what faction.

It's a good idea.

Mmo's aren't known for their robust storylines so your idea can't do any harm. Additionally there are already some religious elements in mmo's currently, how many times have you had to pray at a gravestone or been cleansed by a "Cleric".

I do understand why the few on here "lashed" out because I did the same thing when I was a atheist. I used all the worst examples of so-called christian's to somewhat justify my rudeness. My problem... nobody in my life knew crap about the bible so all I got were poor answers whenever I had a question about religion.

If you're a atheist thats cool and I hope it works out for you but if you "lash out" just remember your are fulfilling the "atheist stereotype".

It would be lucky you if you had somehow avoided something. But the bugs were only there if you got to top level in a couple of weeks, by the time most of us had reached veteran the bugs had long gone. All of us who did not race to the top were lucky. :)

There were some "non-top level" bugs.

However, since the game was announced people wanted a reason to dislike this game. Zenimax made so many changes that deviated from their original idea for the game just to appease the fanbase and all it took was a few issues at launch and the game was demonised and shunned.

Zenimax.... was it worth it?

What factors make one opinion more credible than another?

Experience or knowledge in a particular subject tends to be one factor, so someone who has done something a long time or experienced a wide variety of what the field offers would likely be more credible than a relative newcomer.

Of course this isn't always true, but in general longevity is a reasonable indicator (among others) that one opinion might be more valuable than another.

For example, if someone tells me their entire MMO experience is from games created in the last 5 years it tells me they never experienced the early designs which I feel were clearly superior so I can't value their opinion nearly as much as someone who shares the same experience as I have.

Exactly.

How many times have we seen those "Pick your top 3 mmo's" threads? If you go back a look at these threads closely you would see that the majority of the answers are clearly based on thier first mmo experience. It's unlikely to see one who experienced both DaoC and SWG end up choosing GW2 for best mmo.

My point is experience plays a large factor in your opinion. If your first mmo was an earlier model it tells me that you worked hard to progress through the game and you were there before all the luxuries. If a new game were to come out without these luxuries such as fast travel, you would most likely keep an open mind.

If you tried different types of mmo's and achieved a respectable level, that tells me you aren't limited by a particular model and you played the game long enough to understand the mechanics. Also have you experienced trying to make a mmo? If you tried programming your own game you might understand that there is no "perfect launch" only a launch with the fewest problems.

Ill just put it like this... If you are giving dating advice or just talking about women in general but you've only been on the scene for 11 months and you only date Romanian girls ill still listen but not very closely.

I like how everyone's response is, "don't listen to those other people, listen to me instead." Made me lol.

I just wanted him to use his own mind to formulate decisions...

He didn't say he was an avid sandbox enthusiast or I wouldn't have said anything. ESO is along the same lines as some of the games he mentioned. Some people quit ESO and they weren't have any issues at all. It's like being with a girl that everybody says is ugly, not too many will stick around no matter how attractive they find her. Funny thing is during the whole "ESO witch hunt" I asked people if ESO was such a horrible game what game would the recommend. They all said they weren't playing anything else... which means only one of 2 things.

1. The game didn't live up to their own personal expectations.

2. Somebody convinced them the game shouldn't live up their expectations.

Either way he would have to decide for himself...

I keep seeing posts with all this fervor and excitement for future games, this game, etc. Why? When has that really ever worked out? All I hear people say after *every* mmo release is: "Wasn't worth the hype". Is Destiny going to be great? Who knows? Why not just wait and see?

Destiny is a "big deal" just like Halo was a "big deal".

Nothing really groundbreaking about Halo other than the marketing. Coincidentally, the same can be applied for Destiny.

Ahh its ok, after reading up current posts and being told by quite a lot of other people I decided to cancel my order of the game. Amzaon at the time of requesting cancelation also said it may be too late and to keep an eye on e-mail. Got one tonight saying it was successfully canceled.

Not saying I wont but right now its dropping in price like a brick on water and it really does not look that good right now. I will stick with Defiance+Rift+one day wow (after all I have 2 60 day gametime cards) but may not repack it up until after expansion comes out.

Not sure about wildstar, just seen a youtube vid of it but doesn't impress me that much.

It's kinda sad that you let the opinions of others change your mind. ESO is better than any game currently out (depending on your preference).

If mmo's had the kind of advertising and publicity that blizzard provided for WoW... Celebrities, Commercials and thousands of ads back in 1998.

We would be looking at a much more interesting genre

This logic has many assumptions that doesn't really hold water.

Chiefly that somehow 'wow clones' are popular because people don't know about 'non-wow-clones'.

What is this? pre-2000 where people don't have 'Google'?

BR5 from EVE Online made mainstream news and that is one recent example.

'Lack of awareness' excuse doesn't really make sense nowadays.

You clearly don't know what your talking about.

WoW brought in players in who didn't know the genre existed through advertising. How do you explain all those millions of players that thought WoW was the first mmo? Which mmo do you think the developers are going to try to clone, the mmo with 300k subs or the mmo with 14 million subs?

So Jpnz, How does BR5 making the news compare to commercials that ran everyday with Mr. T, Chuck Norris, Ozzy Osbourn and William Shatner? Granted WoW didn't start out with commercials like these but you don't get millions of players into the genre by NOT advertising.

Reading comprehension goes a long way...

To the OP

Were already into half this year, it hasn't even come out for the consoles yet, so your F2P wont be arriving anytime this year.

However if you can wait till next year, I would do that, but still that is not a guarantee.

So if your hard up for cash, skip it and wait till next year.

This is the best response to your question OP.

People stating that ESO will be FTP this year are crazy. The console release has been pushed back and lets keep in mind the PC players are only a small amount compared to the amount of potential players from Xbox One/PS4. That's Zenimax's bread and butter ...

However console players are very reluctant in paying monthly to play a game online when they already paying monthly for online gaming.

----

Only exceptionally good games can survive on the console market with P2P. There are only 2 i know of and those are FFXI and FFXIV.

----

How many P2P games you know are successful on console?

1. There is no mmo market for consoles so ESO will be a godsend.

2. FFXI and FFXIV weren't exceptional MMO's

3. Phantasy Star Online was successful on consoles

The game is a PVP focused game, did you not know that? I agree the 30 levels of tutorial can feel a bit long. I think 20 levels would have been fine, but this is a rare game where the end game is basically the entire game. You level to 50 so fast, then the game really begins as you make your character into what you want.

What is "harsh pvp" ? You don't lose any items, only tradepacks. This game's PvP has very little harshness to it. lol

I believe he's talking about the level disparity which by today's standard it's "Harsh".

Hello,

First of all, I do have actually very little knowledge about all the different MMO's out there, so I hope you can help me with my search. (Hope this is the right section of the board)

I'm looking for a MMORPG with:

- Prefer nice (3D) graphics

- Prefer medieval / fantasy setting

- Kind of player driven cities (so you can have for example an own house in a city made by players, where clans for example rule) (no NPC's would be even the best)

- You can be and learn whatever you want (become a knight or maybe a blacksmith (so crafting system very prefered))

- Sandbox gamestyle (I do not want to follow a storyline or what so ever)

- Most important: lots of PvP --> with huge PvP battles (to fight over other castles/cities made by players) with for example 200 vs 200 players

- Prefer as less PvE as possible

Is there any game which meet my requirements or maybe something similair to it?

Thanks in advance!

Archeage would be the best choice.

Second best choice would be darkfall
