DId you not get what I am saying there, .. So tell me what sparked this rant if not to tell others to not compare the two games at all? WHich would bring up what I said.

1.) My guess would be the people out there saying ESO pvp is the same as DaoC's pvp... it's not. I have friends that think LoTR movies are "as good" as the books... they're not. Realm pride is a huge factor and the reason why ESO doesn't shine in this area has nothing to do with feelings, it has more to do with design. The Races aren't necessarily locked and at level 50 it doesn't matter what faction you chose you can explore any faction you want and do content there. This design is a pride killer and is the one of the reason why its not DoaC. All facts btw...

By all rights it's a good elder scrolls game and it doesn't really need to be DaoC 2. We can just let CU be the second coming of Daoc however, when we have people that never played daoc start making claims, the rants begin.

Are we going to have this same talk about CU in the future? As it to is also going to be different than DAOC, yet inspired by it.

2.) Maybe, it all depends if they get it right.

"Facts"?!?!? "there's no realm pride" that's a fact? EVerything the OP said was his own interpretation of what made DAOC what it was, with that interpretation he feels he can tell everyone else what it was to them, and where they can draw their comparisons. Facts ROFL.

Anyway, most probably make the comparison based on this, as they will with CU...

4.) You are correct. No pride ... then it's not DaoC.

 

 

A Spiritual Successor is a type of sequel that is not part of the same world or story as its predecessor, but is nonetheless considered to be a successor because it's made by the same creators, shares common themes, styles, or elements; or, most likely, both. In other words, it's a sequel "in spirit".

Again, the problem is with people saying that the pvp is the same or as good as ...

I understand this statement .. but also confused by it.

Learning tricks to each encounter is extremely beneficial however, the "skill" comes from reacting quickly and feeling out the enemy before engaging all while keeping your souls. Anybody can die over and over again until they've worked out a system, this takes no skill.

The confusing part of your statement....

1. Assumes that there aren't any "human player" encounters which are the only challenging aspect of any game.

2. Assumes that there is more to be expected from PvE encounters ...

Basically All PvE  (in any game) = The skill is in learning tricks to each encounter, so you never really learn to actually be a better warrior.  You just trial and error, get lucky or unlucky.

I think the best response to this kind of worrying is to do what me and my mates have decided to do: Give ESO a year to mature. I will say that once a year has gone by you will have a much clearer picture in what direction the developers will take the game.

 

In my experience you don't loose out on anything by waiting to join a themepark MMO until later and you might even get a reduced box price or a free trial to help you decide.

I think the most important thing when it comes to a subscription MMO is to never give out a single dollar you don't absolutely believe the game developer has earned.

Reason has no use here... the community suffers from NWS (Naggy Wife Syndrome).

They even forgot that ESO already made some changes to the game by listening to the player base.. however, the b!tching continues.

I think I just stopped the WoW trial because I didn't have time to play back then. I would definately play WoW now if it was just released (and thus still incredibly popular in a few years) but I doubt that, with so many 'next gen' MMO's coming out (and I believe Blizzard is even making a new one, something with Titan)

Yes, the population is lower but I won't settle for playing an inferior game like ESO.  PVP must have collision detection.  PVP must have friendly fire.  PVP must have an open world to pvp in, not a separate instance.  PVP should have a wicked physics engine.  The people around me should all show up around me and not be phased out.  Darkfall does all this.   ESO doesn't do anything like that.  I shake my head that a small thing like full loot can scare so many people away.  So spread the word, and maybe Darkfalls low population can get bigger.  

 

PS:  Loot regionalization and Area of Influence territory control are coming soon, which will bring a lot of people back to Darkfall.  You ain't seen nothing yet.

This company managed to do the exact opposite of running and designing a game..

Too hard, theres no AH and I shouldnt have to spend money on something other players can make for free, not fair.

The zone is big enough that you can leave the zerg behind and have a lot of fun in a small group or even solo. The fact that everyone has stealth makes that very viable.

 

I spent a whole day on a busy Saturday a few weekends ago doing nothing but solo PVP and Sky Shard hunting in Cyrodiil. It was very easy to avoid the zergs that at times, were quite close to me and pick off stragglers to have 1-on-1 fights.

Not at alll.  Darkfall is a huge world and can seem empty.  However, there are people checking out the spawns, so if you are farming you definitely need to expect trouble.   

Ps, I can find a fight any time.

The fact you notice " new faces in Agon" speaks volumes....

It really needs to be noted that a game like darkfall is NOT supposed to be as populated as most other MMORPGs. If there were 10 people running around every mob spawn, the game wouldn't work. Also, the way reputation works in the game, being able to recognize people by name isn't a bad thing either.

 

That being said, the population is definitely lower than ideal, even for a game like this that shouldn't be bursting at the seams with players.

Lol...come on, DFUW could easily handle a 10x increase in players. AV even stated at the games peak they needed  a 50% increase in players to break even. 

Why has AV been advertising Darkfall's "massive battles , server supporting 10000 players"  ????That is more concurrent connections than most MMOs. 

 

DFUW is a far cry from an "ideal" population.  Steam charts show a 720% reduction at peak in the last year and the game was hardly ever "bursting at the seams".

We all know DF population is low...

A server that can support 10k players is far different from 10k players playing online. When I played with 2k players it was quite the task finding a Grungroc spawn that wasn't camped. Now add 5x that amount and nobody gets to level unless your in a zerg clan.

You keep talking about steam numbers like they mean something. All the dedicated players played DF from beta to release and steam didn't take on DF until several months after release. Guess which group is still playing DF?

If you haven't played the game you it just makes you look like a fool...

There needs to be a significant degree of theft to create a ongoing demand... with that being said, there also needs to be rule sets in place to make sure theft doesn't get out of hand.
