Guys OP started this thread as a reaction to those who are claiming ESO is a DAoC successor.

WHo is the OP to tell others how something feels to them? I'll repeat it again, you can't take away how someone feels about something or what that thing may remind them of, no matter how long your rant is.

I agree, the OP has no right to tell others how to feel.

(whispers) The OP didn't mention anything in regards how the game made him feel in his rant... just facts.

Wrong again (Maniacal Laugh)

DId you not get what I am saying there, .. So tell me what sparked this rant if not to tell others to not compare the two games at all? WHich would bring up what I said.

1.) My guess would be the people out there saying ESO pvp is the same as DaoC's pvp... it's not. I have friends that think LoTR movies are "as good" as the books... they're not. Realm pride is a huge factor and the reason why ESO doesn't shine in this area has nothing to do with feelings, it has more to do with design. The Races aren't necessarily locked and at level 50 it doesn't matter what faction you chose you can explore any faction you want and do content there. This design is a pride killer and is the one of the reason why its not DoaC. All facts btw...

By all rights it's a good elder scrolls game and it doesn't really need to be DaoC 2. We can just let CU be the second coming of Daoc however, when we have people that never played daoc start making claims, the rants begin.

Are we going to have this same talk about CU in the future? As it to is also going to be different than DAOC, yet inspired by it.

2.) Maybe, it all depends if they get it right.

"Facts"?!?!? "there's no realm pride" that's a fact? EVerything the OP said was his own interpretation of what made DAOC what it was, with that interpretation he feels he can tell everyone else what it was to them, and where they can draw their comparisons. Facts ROFL.

3.) See 1.

Anyway, most probably make the comparison based on this, as they will with CU...

4.) You are correct. No pride ... then it's not DaoC.

A Spiritual Successor is a type of sequel that is not part of the same world or story as its predecessor, but is nonetheless considered to be a successor because it's made by the same creators, shares common themes, styles, or elements; or, most likely, both. In other words, it's a sequel "in spirit".

Again, the problem is with people saying that the pvp is the same or as good as ...

I tried the first one, it was stupid.  The 'difficulty' was all cheese.  The skill is in learning tricks to each encounter, so you never really learn to actually be a better warrior.  You just trial and error, get lucky or unlucky.   It's surprising that this franchise has a fan base.

"I was doing just find through the first half hour"

You meant "fine".

And from your first death, I take it your character can't even swim?

I understand this statement .. but also confused by it.

Learning tricks to each encounter is extremely beneficial however, the "skill" comes from reacting quickly and feeling out the enemy before engaging all while keeping your souls. Anybody can die over and over again until they've worked out a system, this takes no skill.

The confusing part of your statement....

1. Assumes that there aren't any "human player" encounters which are the only challenging aspect of any game.

2. Assumes that there is more to be expected from PvE encounters ...

Basically All PvE  (in any game) = The skill is in learning tricks to each encounter, so you never really learn to actually be a better warrior.  You just trial and error, get lucky or unlucky.

SOE never deserves another chance or even 1 cent more of my money ever ever ever again. I'd rather throw my PC in the garbage than play another SOE game after SWG-CU and NGE. Even if they somehow managed to release a good game, I'd still never play it, because it would just get ruined by them. Never Never Never again.

Players: "Hey...this jedi thing...its pretty bad..."

Sony: "Shut up you love it."

*Some quit

Players: "Hey...this the worst thing we've ever seen..."

Sony: "Shut up, you love it!"

*Most players leave

Players: "Whats NGE?"

Sony: "Shut new CDs..."

*Sound of Crickets...

What was wrong with the "Jedi thing"?

I thought it was cool how the whole jedi thing was setup...

not to break your dreams kiddo but Diablo 3 did not beat League of legends in Twitch and never will.

League has been on top 1 since forever and D3 might get on top for 1 day

Ok grandpa. Just pointing out that LoL has been number 1 since forever on Xfire and got dethroned. For the record I don't use xfire. Steam is the only thing that adds value to me.

Bravo... (applauds)

Now the only thing this statement needs is meaning and significance ...

What makes you think this is a good argument? Why wait ten years for something to be good? It should be good from day one and then get better surely? In ten years time, or even a couple of years, something better will have come along. Yes of course things are added later to improve an mmo, but nothing should be held back on release to tease the players (especially since this is a sub game), it should be the best it can be at that time. To be honest I find it irritating at the very least to be told I should pay a sub for a few years and 'wait' for it to get better. I'm amazed how many people have such low expectations of mmo game developers these days. The genre really is on its knees.

If it takes another two years of development to add everything that should be in the game, then so be it. I'd rather wait for a fully formed game than have a sub-standard one released and then 'wait' for stuff to be added later. I guess I just expect to get more for my hard earned.

I think the best response to this kind of worrying is to do what me and my mates have decided to do: Give ESO a year to mature. I will say that once a year has gone by you will have a much clearer picture in what direction the developers will take the game.

In my experience you don't loose out on anything by waiting to join a themepark MMO until later and you might even get a reduced box price or a free trial to help you decide.

I think the most important thing when it comes to a subscription MMO is to never give out a single dollar you don't absolutely believe the game developer has earned.

Reason has no use here... the community suffers from NWS (Naggy Wife Syndrome).

They even forgot that ESO already made some changes to the game by listening to the player base.. however, the b!tching continues.

I saw some friends playing Diablo 3 but it didn't really look like a huge open fantasy world like WoW does.. and I really like that. Same for Path of Exile.. I tried that out but it looked a little dark in my opinion.

I think I just stopped the WoW trial because I didn't have time to play back then. I would definately play WoW now if it was just released (and thus still incredibly popular in a few years) but I doubt that, with so many 'next gen' MMO's coming out (and I believe Blizzard is even making a new one, something with Titan)

I always aim to be the best at a game that I play, even if it takes me 5 years, but I won't be really satisfied if after 5 years I'm the best player out of 10.000 instead of 5.000.000, if you know what I mean.

Soooooo you want to be the best Easy Mode Mmo player after 5 years!?

I was with a Small 8 man Stealth PvP force inside "Cyrod" this last weekend on ESO picking solos off the road in 8 player 1 shot ambushes, then re-stealthing and repeating. During this bad ass gameplay in the "Instanced RvR" someone said "FUCKING DARKFALL!" in chat, and many people had "Darkfall" on their tongues this weekend while in Cyrod PvP in ESO.

As I said one truly quits darkfall, they only take breaks from it.

Yes, the population is lower but I won't settle for playing an inferior game like ESO.  PVP must have collision detection.  PVP must have friendly fire.  PVP must have an open world to pvp in, not a separate instance.  PVP should have a wicked physics engine.  The people around me should all show up around me and not be phased out.  Darkfall does all this.   ESO doesn't do anything like that.  I shake my head that a small thing like full loot can scare so many people away.  So spread the word, and maybe Darkfalls low population can get bigger.

PS:  Loot regionalization and Area of Influence territory control are coming soon, which will bring a lot of people back to Darkfall.  You ain't seen nothing yet.

This is what im waiting for.

in order:

- make a game + engine

- build up community

- dont update your  game for 4 years  and lie about patches and upcoming features

- rebuild your entire game

- destroy your core mechenics

- lose your own community

- have a active playerbase of maybe 1k players on 2 servers

- start updating your game because its "so sucessfull".

This company managed to do the exact opposite of running and designing a game..

I give this company til end of the year till internetQ makes up their mind what they wanne do with unholy wars..

They decided to keep unholy wars open however, they wipe and make FTP...   D:

How I see this thread.

As a non crafter I feel it isnt fair that people that are crafters can make stuff that I cant and have access to content that is denied of me. It's simply not fair that I have to do something I dont want to do to be rewarded in a game. I refuse to craft but I still want to be able to get access to the best items.

"But why not just try crafting instead of trivializing and cheapening the crafting game?"

Because crafting isnt my playstyle, access to content should not be gated by making me do something I dont want to do.

"Then you you may have to make friends who can make the items you want."

I do not make friends, I am a solo player, and solo playstyle must be supported, at all costs.

"Well you can buy the needed item from a crafter."

Too hard, theres no AH and I shouldnt have to spend money on something other players can make for free, not fair.

"Okay so we made crafting redundant like every other game, because it was all too hard."

Cool thnx got my gear. Gonna go play Wildstar.

It would never work...

They only way it would work if they added PvE in the PvP zone... Which is something I understand the PvE'ers HATE.

I have watched alot of PVP videos, and it still looks like ultimately PVP is zerg based.  Kinda disheartening for me.  Coming off other games, with Zerg PVP you usually just end up specking for as much ranged damage you consistently toss about.  Has anyone experienced small skirmishes, where having specific fighting styles and character specifics make any difference besides just ranged nuking?

The zone is big enough that you can leave the zerg behind and have a lot of fun in a small group or even solo. The fact that everyone has stealth makes that very viable.

I spent a whole day on a busy Saturday a few weekends ago doing nothing but solo PVP and Sky Shard hunting in Cyrodiil. It was very easy to avoid the zergs that at times, were quite close to me and pick off stragglers to have 1-on-1 fights.

This is how I lived in Daoc...

This is how I can live now

Seeing lots of new faces around Agon.  Rarely have I been able  to  farm at a  mob spawn this last two weeks without someone trying to jump me.

Oh really... Then why did you say this less than a week ago.????

"The population is low but you can always get in fights if you know where to look ."

Seems to be a contradiction

Not at alll.  Darkfall is a huge world and can seem empty.  However, there are people checking out the spawns, so if you are farming you definitely need to expect trouble.

Ps, I can find a fight any time.

The fact you notice " new faces in Agon" speaks volumes....

It really needs to be noted that a game like darkfall is NOT supposed to be as populated as most other MMORPGs. If there were 10 people running around every mob spawn, the game wouldn't work. Also, the way reputation works in the game, being able to recognize people by name isn't a bad thing either.

That being said, the population is definitely lower than ideal, even for a game like this that shouldn't be bursting at the seams with players.

Lol...come on, DFUW could easily handle a 10x increase in players. AV even stated at the games peak they needed  a 50% increase in players to break even.

Why has AV been advertising Darkfall's "massive battles , server supporting 10000 players"  ????That is more concurrent connections than most MMOs.

DFUW is a far cry from an "ideal" population.  Steam charts show a 720% reduction at peak in the last year and the game was hardly ever "bursting at the seams".

I still don't see the point of your posts...

We all know DF population is low...

A server that can support 10k players is far different from 10k players playing online. When I played with 2k players it was quite the task finding a Grungroc spawn that wasn't camped. Now add 5x that amount and nobody gets to level unless your in a zerg clan.

You keep talking about steam numbers like they mean something. All the dedicated players played DF from beta to release and steam didn't take on DF until several months after release. Guess which group is still playing DF?

If you haven't played the game you it just makes you look like a fool...

There is also...real life where economies work fine despite risk and theft (as long as it doesn't get totally out of hand).

There needs to be a significant degree of theft to create a ongoing demand... with that being said, there also needs to be rule sets in place to make sure theft doesn't get out of hand.

I wonder if they are going to add some type of Elder Scrolls "Herald" (drools)
