There is kinda lack of PR on Aion when it comes to the west....
I don't know how the marketing is going in Asia but, it's really under the radar, i'm glad i somehow found my way to Aion, since this mmorpg actually looks like it's be polished through and worth every penny. Although they have taken the "take all good features from other mmorpgs and combine asian and western modern mmorpgs", I still think it's the right thing to do, afterall it did work for Blizzard, they took from both the asian and western mmorpgs back then.
Just can't wait, were hoping fore feb. 2009 but that is only a wishful thinking now, oh well, as long it's worth the wait i don't mind at all. |

So i don't know if this has already been put up but since so many people here haven't seems to get one quite valid reason, as to other than profit, blizzard was doing this (1 & page 2), i'll just skip in.
First of all, WoW is a social hub, what do we know about social hubs? They are huge attract many people It's about standing out Just looking (good) is feeling good There are both boys/men and girls/women, let me underline the last part, a lot of women and girls! Compared to other mmos.
There are more to add but to make my point clear i only need these, so here we go. WoW actually has a lot of women playing it, since it's a social hub, it's not only about raiding but those who hate wow so much never got the clue to figure it out. Blizzard don't to put anything but cosmetic stuff in that "cash shop", why? Because that shop is all about "standing out", like getting a tux, which looks like the one from Casino Royal, or a special dress for the females from sex and the city, a special haircut like no other, again from either a sitcom or movie. This is all about bragging through "looking good" and standing out.
They won't ever need to put in stat items in that shop, there are people out there who don't want to go through a lot of quests or raiding to look like some kind of power ranger, so with this option, when they wander off in the cities doing something else than questing/instances/raids, they have there special cosmetic stuff to impress, and impress it will, even if people try to deny it.
A new way of making extra money? Yeah, a good one too, as with the real money applied it's not about "how much you play" but only those whose actually interested will buy it, thus they won't have to think, "yet another cool feature for those who got the time for it....".
Will it sell? Who knows, if it's very appealing and very popular cosmetic stuff, it sure will.
If anyone else pointed this one out, then i'm sorry and just take this post as support. But this site being the number 1 wow hating site has been proven many times, and in this thread it was proven once again.
Regards. |

Death blow to MMO as virtual world
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 10/25/08 7:17:08 PM
if this "story driven singleplayer" mmo (lol), actually is great fun and entertaining, then there's nothing wrong with it and worth every money, i'm getting dead tired of the meaningless old mmorpg standards, which obviously ain't working anymore.
People like the story line stuff, makes the game more complete, instead of thinking; "why did i actually have to kill 300 of these dire wolves again?".
If it works, there's no need to be worried, if it doesn't, well then we got a problem.
In the end, if you can "complete" the game within a month, then you won't have to bother with the sub in the first place, if the subpart should be the problem. Though that would be rather sad if it ended already within the first month. |

Will Wrath of the Lich King begin the decline in the popularity of World of Warcraft?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 10/24/08 2:17:28 PM
Lothar got killed too in Warcraft.....
He was the main character you played through with, at the end you got to see a screen him fighting a desperate battle against the black rock orcs, and dying.
Lothar was a legendary warrior of heroes, yet he died, so will anyone in time, better be in fight. You get to be in the fight itself here!
The illidan fight was legendary, when Nihilum released their video it was the top for a looooong time and to this day, still is quite a legendary wow video, because they captured it all pretty well, and honestly it was an epic battle, worth a while, illidan died, yes it was with help from 2 other heroes, whom you had been playing with in Warcraft 3: frozen throne. They aren't the only heroes in the game, you know, have you ever passed through the stormwind entrance? Not to mention many people only talk about the heroes from Warcraft 3, mostly.
Arthas was a big main character, no doubt, he was obviously both pretty strong in both Warcraft 3 and the expansion, with lots of parts to play in with. People won't like him dying, since he was the lead character throughout those two games alone, he was both righteous and became wicked evil, he was quite badass, he betrayed everyone, killing off his own father, he became king of a kingdom of his own, walking dead perhaps but still his own, sorta, he defied The burning legion, he has now EVEN outlived Kil Jaedan! I mean, i didn't expect to see the end of the burning legion, or at least it's current leader, this soon.
We will probably witness some legendary Titans in the future, not to mention perhaps get to dig into Sargeras's past. Maybe he'll even be revived. The warcraft lore is vast, bigger than people seem to know. |

Top 3 most dissapointing MMORPGs
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/21/08 12:38:28 PM
1. RYL 2 - it was supposed to be the improved version of RYL but it got everything wrong and even couldn't keep the very thing that made RYL1 great, what a shame though. 2. Hellgate London - Well i thought it could be the diablo series just in modern times, and with vivid GFX, it failed badly, and showed how horrible a team can become if they don't have the blizzard whip behind them. What blizzard had trademarked very well, polish and quality, didn't exist in this game. 3. AoC -did however improve., But at it's time as it should have impressed you to keep subbing, it failed badly, not to mention the shitty support. It lacked polishment in many ways too, it had such great potential but Failcom never utilized them.
And just for pointing out. Though it might just be your own opinions, i am still surprised people even put WoW on those lists, it's not a failure of a game compared to others, i guess i was right marking mmorpg.com as the number 1 site for WoW haters, hilarious thought. But to each their own. |

After like 1 year or so.....
i got slammed in the face with the Queue box when i logged in.
Grah how i hated it the first year of WoW and now it's back.... Damn it i knew this would happen somehow since this patch compared to "before the storm", last year, was worlds apart, when you look at how much content came out, not to mention the GFX improvements.
However it was fun to log in to your warrior and dualwield your old spinal reaper and sulf hammer. =P
When WotLK hits the launch button, we'll be doomed! thought queue was of the past, i was terrible wrong. =S |

Why is it that Blizzard must steal ideas from other games to be successful?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 10/18/08 11:13:51 AM
This thread made my day... in form of irony and pure laugh!
WAR complaining about WoW taking some ideas from it.... it's like a thief complaining about getting his stolen goods, stolen by the one he stole from. I mean what a cracked up hilarious arguement that would be.
"why did you steal the stuff i stole from you?"

Aion will be great it's the only mmorpg since WoW that's actually trying to be polished before being released, i've never gotten those inbred wow haters, i played mmorpgs before wow came along and played wow beta 2 years before it was released and thought it was the most polished mmorpg just back then, 1 year before Aion is set to be released i saw a lot of it and was like "holy crap, it's been so many years since i had this feeling!".
Aion is the only mmorpg, "to be released", lately that seems worth a damn when it comes to quality and polishment.
I can't wait till it releases, But when it does, it will actually be more than just a pretender.
The haters can crawl back to their gloomy forums... |

I'm liking it so far again, i've rerolled on a pvp server, was on a pve server at start, the whole place is quite different, always on your toes, ready to jump, should someone attack, when you think about it, it's just like the lore of Conan. But somehow it's not the same without the usual friends you played the game with.... The game feels like the conan adventures, a little lonely, then you get a duo, perhaps even a trio running but it seems like both keeping theconan feeling to the game, yet also not really feeling like a mmorpg.
But many things have improved that i'm thankful fore.... |

Just How Did WoW Get "X" Number of Subscribers?

Warcraft lore fits pretty much everyone, it got it all to some extent, both western and eastern appeal, young or old, they simply nailed it so well. |

why first now?! Jesus, as if the the old players didn't have enough ahead of them already.
Getting tired of changes that should have been at release and not first fixed years after, when it'll simply break it down.
It's their own fault for creating such great "SIGH" moments that make people take a break from eve for a few months, they should be adressing how to solve that instead of this change! |

Well it is true, it was a little rocky at the release, well it actually first really kicked in, around level 50, when you ran out of content.
And to the one above talking about the soundtrack being great, i fully agree, the music sucked me into the game.
It's actually a mmorpg that's improving greatly compared to the other "meh" mmorpgs. And i hope with the DX10 update people might give it another shot, because the game deserve to live, the company behind it, is however a questionable factor but with GG gone, i suppose there might be hope.
I'm having a blast again. |

lack of abilities = more skill? auto attack and spamming SS, isn't what i would call "skill" in any way, there's a reason for a certain limit in the hp alignment and cooldowns, certain classes lose if they can't finish their enemy during their cooldown and abilities cycle.
That being said i'm not whining about them honestly i don't care about them because i obviously never really faced the twinkers and if i did face those behind them it would have been in Arenas and normal BGs.
I know gear is not everything with everything right it's not too hard with certain classes to kill other classes even when you're outleveled or outgeared, i have tried beating pretty well geared lvl 70 warriors and paladins when my rogue was simply lvl 61 (not my main just an alt), luckily i knew about the warrior since i played one myself throughout vanilla wow.
But in general i don't see mmorpgs so much about being "skill", it's more about experience, knowing your enemy and your own class' limitations. Skill is something like hitting 10 targets the same place in a row, in the right moment, then again if i pointed that out i guess WoW actually would have skill as basis, since it has PVE boss fights that require right timing for everything. But again is also subject to simple experience of knowing the cycle and obviously help of addons.
I just don't see the point of playing low lvl chars with limited amount of abilities, it's what makes pvp so bloody fun, having a lot of gadgets at your disposal and using them at the right time.
in twinking i wouldn't be surprised, if this was the number of abilities used on the hotbar.....

Never seen such a lame downrating of all other mmorpgs before another mmorpg's launch, at least AoC only focused on hyping their own game in the rating/hype meter, WAR had to downrate all other just to make themselves look good? christ!
on AoC it's pretty good fun again, or at least in my opinion. So i do recommend those who left because of lack of certain things or performance, take a look again. The lagg spike sometimes happen often, and at other times doesn't at all for a long time. But when it happens, it's a turn off, no doubt about it. Hopefully they fix it soon. |

I once had to argue a mate about how twinking wasn't "skillful", as he thought it was "skillful"....
Even though i always liked PvP to some degree, i never ever did see the point of twinking in the lower levels, i mean you had almost no abilities, it do be boring as hell.
I wonder where that magical non existant "skill" in twinking was, because to me it only looked like a second way of griefing unexpecting newcomers who wanted to try out the BGs early on. I sometimes also did bgs with an alt to get a certain weapon quick as it might speed up lvl'ing and to change the pace of things.
The exp gain from pvp is great, i love it, also in a second standpoint of gaining exp, if you got a little tired of doing pve stuff all day long. Though i don't expect to be using that exp feature at all, since all the pve places in wotlk looks so gorgeous, so when i get there i'll probably already be lvl 80 =S
1 month to go..... |

combat gameplay in AoC is actually nice, however i feel a little turned off by the lag spikes after i resubbed yesterday.
Somehow i don't remember it being at the launch (EU here) but it is happening now, so that's something new, something new that's bad heh.
Anyway if Sillirion sometime *soon* could acknowledge it and hopefully fix it, then this game is at it's rebirth. After patch 3.0.
but by then many will probably be playing WotLK or Aion. |
|
|
He hasn't some people actually come back, when they say they'll come back when things have improved.
And guess what, they have!
Having fun again. And performance wise it's smooth as silk, except there seems to be a strange lagg spike now and then that's the only bad thing other than i had to reinstall addons again, since AoC's classic UI bars have always been craptastic.
Is the "lowered moves to trigger" combo already in? awful many combos wasn't as short they were as i played yesterday xD good thing as well, means more moves fired off and feels like faster combat pace also. |
|
|
Oh well i guess i'll give it a shot then.
Resubbed and entering, only bad side, is the starting at new, But then again that's not too bad either, seeing the puramids ect. in gorgeous new gfx is probably like seeing a new game. |
|
|
Hmmm.....
*twitches*
So they seriously made another wonder patch in term of performance?
Grah... the first one made me buy the game, now the second is going to make me resub.
But i'm still curious about the classes PvP and skill wise, have they also fixed the "bugged talents" ? |
