Xris - Not to be argumentative, but the way I see it, those promises are no more substantial than any other hope/wish/plan/intention these devs have layed out. To date, they have been unable to walk their talk. Why would I believe this claim would be different, unless I invoke faith? |

How about Roma Victor? A sandbox game developed by a small dev team. You can download and play it right now! Want a list of features? http://www.roma-victor.com/sotw Now...before anyone gets too excited...keep in mind that while this game was "feature complete" at launch, some of those features have yet to be "enabled" in game even 2 years after release. I suspect most folks would find the reality of the game doesnt hold up to its..."potential". You have been warned. A little more on subject: yes, I am annoyed by the appraoch the Darkfall devs are taking. I have been there before, and not just with Roma Victor. When I was playing WWIIOL, I heard the word "soon" so often, I no longer understand the meaning of the word! The fact that Adventurine doesnt want to show anything at this point in development and their obvious fear of NDA-breakers, indicates the game isnt inspiring confidence. Granted, this proves nothing, but if you have been around the block a few times it might give you hint. Lower expectations, and you wont be disappointed. |

So, the news is that they are using bots and "professional testers", thinking this is a good thing? They will be in for a rude awakening if actual gamers start testing, as they dont follow scripts or punch a time clock. This journal is just another reason to tone down expectations, IMO. |

Just go to the first page of this very forum, and browse the topics dated 3 years ago! Nothing has changed. Claims of vaporware were rampant, and of course, folks denied it. Closed beta was "just around the corner" then, as it apparently still is... I recall getting very excited back in Nov/Dec of 2005. The devs were going to start the "clan beta" of Darkfall. I was a member of one clan that recieved an invitation. My name/email/info was submitted along with the others. And...yeah. So I wonder - at what point would these forums cease to serve the best interests of the MMORPG fan? IMO, we passed that point some time ago.

So, has it been all that you hoped for? The game has moved steadily away from the level of PvP it had in earlier times, and now seems to be a refuge of the crafter, socializer, and pwner of NPC bandits/varmits. Some said the PvP, drama, and politics of the past harmed the game. Is it better now? Really, I am curious. |

Why the NDA was lifted so early...
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 2/12/07 11:54:29 AM
Originally posted by Vhaln At this stage of development, you bet the NDAs are used primarily to hide flaws. Sure, in early dev stages, they are concerned with competition stealing ideas or being forced to make significant changes to gameplay due to unexpected issues. Not a concern this close to release. So, the only reason to enforce the NDA now, would be if they had something to hide from potential customers. |

Why the NDA was lifted so early...
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 2/12/07 11:26:33 AM
It is very simple. The NDA was lifted because the game is polished and in excellent shape, right now. By most MMO standards these days, this game would have been released weeks, or even months, ago. Now, some folks wont like it. But it wont be because the game crashes frequently, has poor performance, looks crappy, or lacks content. It just wont be the type of game they are looking for, and that is to be expected. Different strokes for different folks. |

How is the game now? I quit because of lag.
Capitoline Hill (General) « Roma Victor 9/24/06 12:39:20 PM
Most of the "global lag" is gone. There are still some intermittent delays from the server during object creation type activities, but for the most part, you can play the game reasonably well. PvP? Well, that is an issue still. You can fight small skirmishes. But larger battles - especially in enemy controlled areas - are still going to cause significant issues, primarily server lag/tracking problems and potential client crashes. If you are willing to allow for some glitches and understand that this is a sandbox, the game is playable and fun. If you are mostly interested in large scale PvP, or expect a more polished product, best to keep waiting. |

Virtus, knock it off. Kanoth asked a question - I answered it with what I wanted fixed. You know I have been playing since beta. You know the problems that I mention are a serious issue and have been for a long, long time. You know I have been complaining about it since gamma, and even organised testing in the game to help the devs get a handle on the problem. I dont care if Kanoth answers me. I dont need any more talk. I would like to see fixes. |

I want you to fix the server-side lag/tracking issues, especially as they relate to combat. Severe server lag and/or tracking issues have been a boil in the butt of any RV combat character since time began, and still are to this day. This is a serious issue that still needs serious attention. |
