Wow did wonders for the MMO genre.

Wow killed MMO communities its all me me me now withvery little outside of guild interaction and no MMO trying to push social tools.

HEY FOUL!!!!!

PS was the best game i ever played for 60 days roll on PS2 if it can add more to its utility belt and become much more of a MMO it can be EPIC.

Please tell me its Aion your working on you must be the first member of staff NCSoft has for this purpose because it not evident so far.

Looking forward to next weeks article.  Its a issue rather close to me at the moment.

Im playing still and loving it 5 more levels for the entire daevonian set thats 5 toons to 30.

Won't say its not losing people because it clearly is my legion has suffered some heavy falls of late.

Lost many to RL they came out of a MMO sebatacle to try Aion but just cant commit the time to it.

Lost a few as its not quest based enough, lost others because PVP is a core element.

Aion was never *despite what some fanboi's where saying) going to be this wow killing game,  we have a enlarged community so desperate for that next big thing that every MMO becomes this wow killing machine to see us to the next gen.

Aion simply is not that MMO,  It is a nice tidy bug free enjoyable PVP orientated game that I am thoroughly enjoying and can see myself doing for years to come.

SWG 30+ days ended up there for 4 years

L2 30+ days 2 years

WAR 10 days cancelled

AOC cancelled pre-order based on beta never purchased it

My past history tells me I'll be there a good while.

Aion Review

Review stinks more than the wonderful "it took as long to get from 10-11 as it did 1-10" at PC zone a review that was so blatantly obvious the reviewer hadnt played past that stage.

This one is more journalistic crap even his research is skewed.

Its the crytek engine from Farcry not the crysis engine. FAIL journalism

WAR's PVP sucked ass badly and a lot of his other observations are crap.

How can you score WOW a 9/10 or whatever then something that does everything it does but better in a lot of places less.

A relatively recent example involves an F2P game that was updated with quite a significant change to its combat system. Curiously, there was no obvious reason for this. Apparently, it hadn't been the cause of any dissatisfaction beyond the normal levels of grumbling. So, as far as I could tell, it wasn't a fix designed and implemented to address the players' concerns. If so, it most likely means the impetus came from the development team.

In this particular instance, the publisher compounded its initial poor judgment by not communicating what I'd consider an adequate amount of information about the new combat system

Why don't you just say it was a P2P and its name was SWG:NGE

What well I havent had a snide dig in ages

or just get a bot to do it for you since NCSoft is doing sod all about them,  the one bad point in the game IMO but almost gamebreaking.

US Chat Channels

Hey guys where the US chat Channels broke also on todays patch or just the EU who's been hit with that miracle patch thats has screwed the game ?

Honestly, the only people that are complaining about queues are the ones that are too hellbent over staying on their current server to move to a lower population one.

FYI every ENG EU server is overpopulated.

Yeah because not as if some people took time off work are already 30+ top and bottom of it when you have ques on servers during headstart on the second day of it those new servers should have been up by time of retail release even just 1 server reduces those ques massivley.

Piss poor management on NCSoft's behalf and even worse communication and hiding of problems on there forum's.

i still love Aion but its bloody annoying :)

theres always quests honestly Im 26 and havent struggled with having a journal full of quests at any level they just arent always at the hubs.

I prefer grinding anyway so I enjoy it but honestly they can be found.

IF there are 3 playable factions, IF you can choose only one faction per server, IF the PvP is rewarding, not penalising... then you can think about DAoC-alike.

2 player Factions see poster ^^^

Only 1 faction per server

Rewarding no death penalty for PVP and with some great mechanincs canget back in the fight very quickly.

Its the closest anything has come to DAOC PVP

Rift's for eg allow the other faction into your homeworld and I havent seen a bunch of people show pride in their faction and kick the other sides ass so badly since the days of DAOC when you refused to let the opposition set foot on your land.

Great move by NC I often leave my shop up for a couple of hours and I dont mind it at all.

It can always be changed back to the way it is after those initial 3 months are over and we see wether its retaining everyone, losing subs or word of mouth is selling more.

This was the best of a bad situation considering gearing into main release today.

Only thing I dont agree with is the timing seriously 2PM in EU when many may have just picked the game up from a store etc what a absolute let down those guys will have when they find the server come down 1 hr after they are on.

My geForce 8800 512 blew up playing on medium-high settings. Funny, the game even with my lower end card ran smooth as butter until my card just overheated and died.

The card was old, needed replaced/upgraded... it played WoW just fine, but looking for something good to run Aion on high settings and PvP no problem and look good, too.

Suggestions?

8 hr session today 1920 x 1080 max settings on everything started overheating my 2 x 9800 GTX's :)

giving the machine a couple of hour break and ordering some aftermarket cooling for them as they are the stock nvidia ones.

AARGH!

I got the name I wanted. Then I pulled up another account I have and deleted the name i just got on my main account. After the 5 minutes it takes to delete i was gonna get the name on my second account so I could actually make my character with that name reserved. But after my main got deleted it was telling me the name already exists. So I guess once you delete the name cannot be used again or something. THAT SUCKS!!!

nope just got unlucky I knew you could from beta I actually rerolled my 2 fine with same names, must have just been very unlucky.

After that initial couple of weeks rule of thumb is you never have more than 15% of your playerbase on at any given time so thats around 2k users based on current amount of servers and current sales.

Smoggy and Smogg

Had the numbers and slider positions all jotted down from 20 hrs in CB/OB getting my toons just right so a 5 min job.

Nooby question

If the download is slow through the NC launcher then you can grab the client at a number of other places.

I would read up on the class you intend to play (if you've decided on a class that is).  If you haven't decided go read some more.  It's going to be pretty important I think to pick one toon and stick with it and not be wasting time trying out the classes.  I got all of the trying out of different classes during the beta's.  Also watch Aion videos on youtube.  There's tons of them to keep you interested in the short wait time we have left before launch.

would also a recommend a read of the lore its a great read when you get into it and gives a good perspective from both sides.

The Book of Elyos

eu.aiononline.com/uk/about/lore/elyos/

The Book of Asmodians

eu.aiononline.com/uk/about/lore/asmodian/

Neither is at fault for what happened but both blame each other a nice take on the usual good and evil thing and very human in nature just because 1 doesnt understand the other or blames them for something they become enemy.

Will be mainly chilling and foruming it up.

Might squeeze some games of FS in also.

If anyone likes football (soccer to you guys across the pond) then check it out in my sig a Football MMO a great alternative to your mainstream MMO.
