Darkfall is aiming to be exactly what WoW is not.  Therefore I'm sure the kiddies that love WoW will stick to WoW and let us play Darkfall in hardcore-MMO fashion.

Definately NOT AoC!  lol she looks like a beast.  I think you should get some WAR on there as well.

DAoC has some great features that will be seen in WAR.  But WAR is going to be all the best things of DAoC and then some more.  I recommend pre-ordering the CE so you can get a beta code and play in open beta once it starts.

I suggest you read up on WAR a bit more because it's clear you don't quite grasp the ins and outs of the game.  In short, the level cap should not be a problem for the reasons you foresee.  A smaller level cap is always nice because it will allow people to to make more than one character and also encourage others to play the game who do not start playing in the first year or so.  Also this will leave room for a higher level cap in later expansions and so forth.

That's my hope, but I think it would be atleast 6-10 years away.  SWG still has some good aspects in it, its just sad that it had so much to offer and now its a cookie cutter MMO.

I am considering pre-ordering WAR.

Where do you recommend I pre-order from?

Can I only pre-order the CE or can I pre-order the regular version?

Will I receive a beta code right away and if so will I be able to get into beta anytime soon with that code?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I think WAR will be great.  But I just can't bring myself to pre-order MMOs anymore.  Been screwed to many times.  You better believe I'll be playing the day it releases though:)

Well I would believe it if it eventually started development because the lore has a huge fan base.  Hell, it may even be a good MMO, it would all depend on how they approached it of course.  I doubt I'd be a fan though, nothing but magic and more magic, I just can't see how it could work.

They decided to make a mmo based of warcraft lore which is based on games workshops early pen and paper/minatures games. Now that Mythic is making it they are using their own system which is a exact copy of Daoc wiht some polish. Graphics don't make or break a game look at grand theft auto graphics sucked but gameplay was awesome. Tired of people saying everything is a wow clone, read up and get some facts then post plz!!!!!!! In any matter don't call any mmo wow clone unless the company that made it has no proir mmo under their belt, and the game looks like they rip the graphics straight from the wow cds

Shut up.

These threads are all over the place.  I should make one that says stop posting re-peat threads lol.  Us who have followed WAR know what it is and those who don't will know eventually because you can bet damn sure that most MMO fans will atleat try the game out.

Agreed.  I'll believe it when I see it.  They have kept us in the dark with regards to Darkfall so I'm naturally very skeptical.  Think about how open WAR has been throughout its development.  You know when you are that open with everything that the game will be a big hit.  When you keep everything hidden, as in Darkfall it builds a great deal of doubt.

The quality is amazing!  I agree on the assumption that you will need a pretty powerful rig to run this game.

A sandbox game is a game where you can do anything you want. Hence the idea of sandbox, you just play with it.

Classes don't let you do anything you want, they push you into a specific role, and if you don't fit that role, you're marginalised.

Imagine being a guardian in KotOR II, and using force powers mainly. You'd probably die quickly as you ran out of power quicker than a consular.

Skills do the same thing. If you can take any skill you want, then there will be something that is close to an optimal build, no matter how you design the skill system.

Most players, not being stupid, will choose that optimal build, so every player ends up with the exact same character. Where's the choice in that?

And obviously, if you can do "anything" you want, you've kept the sandbox part, but gotten rid of the game part. Now it's not a sandbox game, but just a sandbox. If I can do "anything" I want, then I'm going to shoot atomic bombs out of my butt that blow up everything in the game. Not much point in playing that. So if you want to keep the "game" part, obviously there HAVE to be restrictions on what your character can do, and how powerful it can become. That's the same if you have skills or classes. Otherwise everyone is invulnerable, with the touch of death. I can kill any mob with one touch, and no mob can hurt me. Gee, that's a fun game.

I like skill systems where you get skill points to spend, and you can put them where you want them. However, there are limits, like if you have 5 healing skills, you get the 6th at half price of the points, or nuke skills cost double.

This allows players to customize their characters, but does not allow for the tank mage, where every players has the exact same optimized character, with the perfect balance of offensive and defensive skills. If every player is going to be either exactly the same, or gimped, then why have skills at all? Just give everyone the same character to begin with.

I appears as if you haven't ever played any real mainstream sandbox-skill-based games.  Listen, most skill based games I know of will cap you and limit your skill points, sure you can craft what you feel is the best character, but the fact of the matter is you have to put all your skill points somewhere if you want the ultimate mage.   Likewise, if you want a warrior you have to lay off all the magic stuff.  In otherwords, you can't make a maxed out character that is perfect in everything.

Think of early UO when you think of this type of game.  That's why people loved that game so much.  If you weren't fortunate enough to play early UO then that sucks because you would of seen why we all cry out for sandbox and skill-based games so much.  The two really do go hand in hand.

Warhammer Online will probably bruise WoW pretty bad and then WoW will make bad decisions in trying to get new content in the game to combat the WAR epidemic and then players will be disappointed leading to a slow painful death of WoW.  Just a thought.......lol

lol.  I think AoC was really pushing to beat the WAR epidemic and get their game established first.  I don't blaim them.  WAR is fixing to be a power house of MMOs and I wouldn't want to release the same time or behind it.

I'm sure there will be websites with the "recipes" up and working within a week of the game's release though.  So essentially I can see what the troll is getting at.  You just don't have to get an actual in game recipe to be able to make something.  I do like WAR's approach to this crafting though, I feel it is somewhat innovative and will be sucessful come release.

EXACTLY.  AoC is way to new to even estimate numbers yet.  We'll see in a year what the numbers look like.  Every game has record breaking numbers a month or two after release, it doesn't mean anything.

I'm considering it.  That is a lot of money for a game though.  I don't often order CE, but with WAR it may be worth it.  More than likely I will probably wait and order the regular retail box set.  I don't blaim those who want to get the CE though, I would get it if I wasn't paying so much money on gas every month.
