I've often wondered the same thing.  But there just isn't enough good sandbox games.  Darkfall attempted it, but I just can't get into that game.  I miss old Ultima Online's sandbox feel, but I just don't see anything out there being as gritty.  I liked the hard feel of the game, where it was difficult to come across items.  Seems like they have too many items and drops anymore for just being able to run over to a person in town and clicking on them.  Does that make any sense?

In my experience I found WoW to have a large number of females playing.  I would guess this is due to the ease of the game and the carebear (I don't mean that in a bad way) style that is associated with it.  Plus it is the most popular MMO still and it gets the attention of those who normally wouldn't game.

I think that is great news for us 360 gamers.  We are much better off with out these uber nerds in game, as they wreck online gameplay in so many ways.  I've always been pleased with Xbox on how they ban accounts for ruining the game for others.  I still hear a ton of racist slurs and obnoxious profanity when playing and really wish they would crack down harder on that issue.

SWG was pretty big.  No one has mentioned that one, why not?  Vanguard has a large world as well.  I think those 2 are in the top 3.  I have know knowledge of DFs world as the game was too buggy to even play lol.

I bought it and it does run fine, thanks.  I must say this game is a lot of fun.  I think Bioware really has something special with this one.  Although I'm having a little bit of buyer's remorse because I'll be picking up Modern Warefare 2 for my 360 next week and will not have the time to play both games lol.  Oh well, the PC version of DA:O is really nice!

I don't know a lot about PCs.  I know mine works great with all available MMORPs, but I don't play games like Dragon Age on it so I don't know.  I used the Can You Run It http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/srtest/ site and it showed that I couldn't run the game because I have Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz.  Everything else looks good besides this factor.  Is this accurate does anyone know?

I suppose I can always buy it for 360, but I heard it is more fun on PC:(

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

System Model: Dimension 4700
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A10
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 3070MB RAM

The crafting is pretty poor and limited.  I expected something great due to all the hype on crafting they were putting out there before release.  If it was really going to be as poor as it is then why did they even bother talking about it?  We would of been better off thinking there was no crafting and pleasantly suprised to see that there is a little bit.  They talked it up like it was going to change the way crafting is done in MMOs from here forth lol.

I maxed out potions very early back when I played and then realized that there was a big disconnect between the gameplay, crafting, and economy.

I'm all about crafting, but I don't see this game taking that approach.  This is going to be a linear, action based MMORPG with next to no sandbox style play.  Therefore, I would predict that the crafting system will be limited and will mirror something like WARs crafting system oppose to something like SWG.  I suppose we could always hope for a crafting push though:)

You should of never started them in the first place, but since you did I guess you made a good choice in quiting at this point IMO.  I have never been a fan of any of the Korean MMOs.  Since we don't have much out there right now I suppose I don't blaim you for sampling them, but we should have SWTOR in a year or so.

I prefer UO's UI as you can drag/drop/remove components from it as you wish

I agree with you on UO's UI.  It was by far the best I've ever experienced.  I was fine with recent UI such as WAR and AoC though.  But with add-ons it can get to be a bit rediculous.  I think WoWs is the worst anymore with so many add-ons available and other UI junk.

Im prolly gonna buy/try this game when it comes out, but there are some reasons that might change my mind...

  1. Heavy instancing
  2. Lack of open world (SWG Rage of the Wookies kind of worlds)
  3. RMT. I rufuse to pay extra money to be able to compete in a game.
  4. Poor crafting system.
  5. Lack of diversity within classes. No fun beeing exactly like the other smuggler or bounty hunter.

Not much i guess, but that can be enough for me to stay away.

I strongly agree with 2, 3, 4, and 5.  There are some other issues that could happen that would make me think twice such as anything that is nothing but the same old same old crap that we've been seeing lately lol.  I am ready for something new.  I think you hit my big ones in your list actually.  I don't like the fact that they choose to go with a level system or a class system, but since they are I suppose that I'll just have to hope that they don't allow anything of the things you mentioned in this game.

I think the scoring has become more liberal if anything.  The scores shouldn't be that much higher of other MMOs during their release time.  Though scoring will gradually rise because MMOs learn from eachother we still haven't seen a rise in quality like these scores indicate.  Interesting point.  Perhaps this staff will take a better look at their rating system.  Is it just me or do they love the themepark, level based crap:P

Care to link your source of discussion OP?  Or are you just trolling around?

I rank combat animation very low on my list of what I look for in an MMO.  For example I still feel Ultima Online had the best combat in the MMO world and look at their animation.  There are so many other things that come into a succesful combat system besides animation.  Honestly, I hope they don't waste all their time with insane animation and then put out a game that doesn't flow.  Anyway without seeing what you're looking at it is hard to say anymore on this topic.

Well put.  I miss the environment that you have described.  The bounty system was fun and made for a scare when you ran into one of the top ten murderers on your server since there was full loot and you'd sometimes have some pretty valuable stuff on you.  Finding a plot for a house was difficult though at a certain point.  However, most of us had more than one house including a tower or bigger!  So I guess I can't complain.  I don't know if that is accurate that you can find huge spots of land in today's UO though...I wouldn't think that is true otherwise everyone would have a castle since the value of gold in UO has dropped dramatically.

Anyway, you're absolutely right in your description.  I wish they could make a game like this using today's technology.  And no Darkfall and Mortal Online aren't going to cut it:)

I was glad to see that UO got #1 in MMORPG.coms top 5 MMORPGs that should be remade.  Like the author stated in the review, I also feel that it is amazing that this game has not been remade using up-to-date technology.  The fact that UO still has a pulse after all these years with the competition being the way it is shows that there is still a demand for this type of MMO.  We all want a skill system that is as in-depth as UO.  It was great!   I'm so sick of classes and levels and I'm sure many others are as well.  Please consider remaking this game in some form or another, it would be a major hit.

I think the real reason is so they can make a open world with a lot of stuff going on that would work on low spec PCs without crashing.

This would be my first guess on the graphic situation.  Of course the fact that it mirrors the cartoon SW makes me think that there is some influence from that angle as well.  Overall, I feel they knew there was already a more realistic looking SW game SWG, even if it is on its' last leg and they wanted to go with the fresh look.

C'mon this is complete rubbish.  But for the record, NO I would not play a game with microtransactions and item stores because they are 3rd rate MMOs.  Please keep this garbage out of here.

SWTOR seems to have a lot of signle player oriented content.  I suppose the voice over feature and main story cause people to relate the game to KOTOR on console or PC.  I can't deny that I find it with a lot of single player content, but everyone should understand that there seems to be a lot of discussion about the typical MMORPG features such as PvP and raids.  I think it will be a game that appeals to all types of gamers.  Of course I also see a great deal of questing, theme park style missions associated with this single player content.  This doesn't appeal to me or the others who love freedom in MMORPGs and lean towards a sandbox style, but I think it will be a solid game nonetheless.  I am looking forward to the single player content as well as the multiplayer content.

IMO, it is a poor mans WoW.  It is definitely a clone of WoW, but many MMOs are so that's not it's biggest downfall.  The thing that sticks out the most in my mind is that it is boring.  It is a classical theme-park, level based style MMORPG that doesn't have much new content to offer.  They have a player housing feature that interests me a lot, but all other features of the game do not interest me in the slightest.  I've been there and done that with WoW and I'm sick quest grinding.

With that said, I feel LOTRO is more popular than you give it credit.  I think it gets a lot of attention on most major MMO sites.  I deem it a kiddie MMORPG though and don't find it very fulfilling for veteran MMO gamers.

The other point being if Jedi are the most powerful class, then they are the only class.

You want to play a game of nothing but Jedi? Sounds kind of boring.

Exactly.  Or they would be such a dominant class that no one would want to play anything else for fear of being constantly owned and the other classes would go to total waste.  The level of a jedi is what is important.  A veteran BH could easily stomp a padawan right?  Why not keep it the same in the game.  I get what you are saying, but you have to understand that there needs to be class balancing or the game will absolutely flop.
