This is a really bizarre topic imo :)

The OP has a link to the EVE trial in his sig, which many of us know, has many similar restrictions.  You can't train certain skills, you can't use certain ships, certain features of the game are blocked off to you, and many corps explicitly state they do not want anything to do with trial accounts.

If I'm not mistaken, Everquest 2 has similar restrictions.

So WoW's trial would appear to be a pretty standard deal.

This is true, the CDs are owned by you - but the software - in legal terms, isn't.

Poke me with a pointy stick if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure most commercial software is purchased on a license agreement basis.

The sad truth about roleplaying servers, in any game, is that a whole bunch of people roleplay really, really badly.  And everyone has different opinions about what roleplaying is, and what is tolerable, and what isn't.

But if you're in Europe and you play WoW,  I think that  the realm Earthern Ring (Alliance) has a very strong RP community that isn't too silly is pretty warm and interesting.

You don't even own the client.  All you have when you buy software is a license to use that software, which in theory (I'm not a lawyer) can be legally revoked.  All you own is the box and the manuals :)

I bash Vanguard in jest.  I've posted positive things about Vanguard, some of the most postiive things on these boards.

There are bad flaws in WoW, but people generally pick up on aspects of that game that aren't flawed, they just perceive them to be flawed.  And these are the parts of the game I will defend.

Most people don't give a shit and won't change their opinion based on what any of us post about a game.  But if you're going to bash WoW on the WoW forums, expect me to argue you into submission with a blinding volley of facts and common sense logic :p

He wasn't trying to further the aims of anything.  He was just posting his opinion of the game.  He's obviously not into making pretentious pseudo-intellectual posts, while attemping to appear condescendingly superior.

What I saw in his post was raw honesty.   What I see in posts criticising posters like him for appearing to be immature are just people hiding who they really are,  wrapped in a wannabe-high-brow cocoon.

I wouldn't say that Nvidia are better than ATI, or the other way around.

The differences aren't too big, It really depends on the generation of cards we're talking about, some generations of ATI cards are generally better than NVIDIA cards, and vice versa.  I've owned cards from both manufacturers and they've both been fine imo.  I slightly prefer Nvidia atm but that's just personal preference.

As you've already discovered, don't rely on advice from store clerks though, especially when it comes to PCs, they are normally clueless.

Ah.   Going from this poll, I am in the group that you lot hate the most.   This makes me a little sad tbh :(   Although I'm a WoW fanboi, I am actually quite a nice guy IRL -  so I'm told.   I've never been in trouble with the law and I always try to be cool with everyone.  I'm not perfect but I try my best.

But... this is the Internet.  Perhaps it's the psuedo-anonomity, perhaps we're all assholes deep down, but for some reason the Internet turns us all into MONSTERS.

That's right, I don't care if I'm hated by pretentious lovers of crappy niche games, with your Comic Book Guy attitude of "worst, mmo, ever" (with regards to WoW).  Constantly you post the same old trash, "blah blahblah", you post that your MMORPG is more mature, that only kids play WoW, that your MMO has more depth... that it's more challenging, and you post over and over again that WoW SUCKS.  This is all wrong.  Your games aren't more challenging, they just dilute the content to take longer.

I did the tour of the world thing for a couple of days.  I was impressed by the level of polish this game has, but it doesn't offer anything over WoW to warrant moving imo, unless you're tired of WoW which I'm not.

Are you two for real?  You and he are 16 and 15 respectively.  And this is where I get suspicious, are you two drones just put here to make the WoW community live up to the bad reputation the pretentious fanboys of other games like to give us?

Either way, we don't need this kind of silly thread posting, and it's probably against the forum rules!

Well thats nice, a lot of fluff - but not really what the game needs.  Here's what we really wanted to see:


- Parts of the rendering engine have been re-written, there should be substantial 3D performance improvements across the board
- Memory management has been completely rewritten,  the dynamic loading of resources from disk to RAM is now far more efficient
- Loading the game should be faster
- Chunk times have been drastically reduced, thanks in part to the new memory management.  Those on high end system should now have a seamless experience, while others should find travelling has much fewer interruptions.
- New animations for all classes - both player characters and NPCs should appear less 'stiff', and move more realistically, this includes more natural idle poses and much more!
- We've added a dozen new hairstyles for all the races
- Crashing should occur far less often now
- Boats now move smoothly
- Many hundreds of different smaller optimizations that are too numerous to mention.


This patch should address most concerns you've had with Vanguard.  Set yourself free, and tell your friends...
