Tired of running endless quests? Time to graduate and step up to a sandbox.
I havent done a quest in a MMO in over... 2 or 3 years now. |

Ryzom would be fun to watch. I could never get into that sandbox... no pvp.
I would of chosen Entropia Universe too but I've already seen what's to be had there. Planet Calypso is a cult. |

Yeah I'm tired of the soul-sucking grind of L2 too. The competitive PvP is amazing, but there isn't enough time left for me to have my body and spirit consumed by another MMO.
I'm playing Mortal Online instead. The awakening expansion is adding in some more 'sand to the box' and a few other quality of life improvements. UI and AI updates have me quite excited, as the game lacked in both departments. You can get a character to the hard skill cap in a matter of weeks, so the clan/seige PvP has a low entry-barrier. Though keep in mind that you will also need other characters if you want to be self-sufficient in crafting/harvesting/etc. I.e. I have a ranger build character, melee/heavy armour character, butcher woodchopper and fletcher, miner smither, etc. One can rely on other players/guildmates for these things if one isn't interested.
The game definetely isnt for everyone though. Its like Darkfall, but not as fast paced.
Oh and DO NOT play conan for PvP. Its a amazing PvE game, but the PvP community is terrible. The deveopers make the game for PvE and let PvP decay, don't let the blood and glory server fool you. Most have quit that server and went back to the normal Tyranny PvP server, many say blood and glory is dead. Even the PvP fans on the AoC forums will tell you not to play the game for PvP. Think of it like EQ2's PvP. Just a side thing tacked onto a PvE game which leaves the PvP fans in the dark.
Guild wars = instanced pvp incase you didn't know. |

Originally posted by Vardahoth I call BS on this. I've recently returned to L2 myself. While they have alleviated the grind, it's still there. 1-40 can be done in about a week. From 40-70 it's mid paced. From 70 and on it gets a lot slower. Linage 2 is only worth the grind since there's PvP at the end. But if just grinding is what you're looking for you'd probably enjoy L2. Any asian MMO would do really. They're all primarily grind based. |

Dragona, The First Aion Clone? First Impressions/Review!
General Discussion « Dragona 9/23/11 12:40:29 AM
You guys do know that Aion was a L2 clone, as is every asian MMO.
Looks more like L2 than aion anyways. Get your facts straight. This is a L2 clone. The entire asian MMO genre are all L2 clones. |

The sandbox market is a niche market, which can be hard to get started in. Most of these sandbox games are just the dreams of 3 nerds in a basement and they get some sort of financial support to make some sort of released product. They're never finished upon release though. |
|
|
But why stop at 3? I'd play it if it were a good sandbox game with open world/meaningful PvP, and real death penalties. So long as you put in all the right MMO mechanics to make a game exceptionally well, the setting shouldn't really bother you so long as its a game you like. Or whatever kind of MMO that'd be for you. I'd play my dream sandbox/pvp game no matter what the setting is. Just do it right. |

But what about the PvP? I could only find a few brief bits of info about it, nothing too significant. |

Originally posted by Sagasaint No you must have more than 2 factions. I've aleady PvP'd in enough bullshit good vs evil, us vs them crap. It's all been done like a hundred times. Three or more factions adds WAY more dynamics to the world....
Maybe a coast guard/shark hunting faction could play into the scenario well. I've got no idea how well that'd work out into a game, but it sure sounds pretty sweet (if done well). |

Honestly, I'm supprised to hear of this. RO was never a game I expected to have a competitive pvp side to it...
Props to them I guess. Wish I had a game to fully satisfy my PvP needs. |

Piasek, how can you say its just like Global Agenda when the game isn't even out yet? I doubt you've played it, let alone your statement bearing any truth to it.
Personally, I don't really care how the suit design came to be. Art is important, and nice to see, but doesn't tell me what I want to hear about the game. |

Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising: Developer Round Table Pt. 3
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/09/11 8:52:01 AM
I love the change from a fantasy setting to a historical one, but that only lasts so long before the illusion fades and the game starts to set into me. I'm really supprised they're launching this month. They've got a tough road ahead of them... no one (outside of its fans) seems to be interested in the game at all. The game would of done pretty well if it came out in '07 or '08 like it was originally supposed to. I get vibes of a pre-BC era MMO from this game (aka the first round of '2nd gen' MMOs),and I can appreciate it for that. Sadly, though, the market really has no place for that. I guess we can just call it a niche game. Sounds better than total failure in the current market. |

I am a direhardcore FFA PvP fan, but I can accept FvF if done right (persistant open world pvp with meanin (ie territorial controll, structures to gain and loose--perhaps live in them like a clan city and be able to have them taken away--in the persistant world, things to fight fotr in general) as long as it isnt JUST TWO FACTIONS. There has to be atleast 3. Tere is no way I would let such a great MMO title ruin its self with the classic 'Good vs Evil' crap.
Carebears don't whine about griefers. Not every one is a griefer, just that random asshoold. Most of the PvP crowd are actually against them too. Dickheads will be dickheads. Just gotta deal with it and try to use some game mechanics for their disadvantage right back at em, or move on.
Just me $.02 |

Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising: Subscription Pricing Revealed

Giving the option could also be looked at as a commitment of the company to a game.
Just sayin, it can't hurt. There's always a couple loyal, dedicated members in the bunch. |

And bullfrog, that's awfully unrealistic. How many of you have stuck with a MMO for more than 6 months of consistent play in the past year or so? No I, thats for sure. |

Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising: Subscription Pricing Revealed
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/17/11 11:31:22 AM
What's sketchy about a lifetime sub? The only other game I know of that ever offered one was Lotro... and there's not enough of a trend there to really notice anything. And people need to stop trash talking games in beta that they haven't even fully, or even half-way, played. Any game only has so much to offer, and Gods and Heroes should do that perfectly fine once all the kinks are worked out. You don't have to go around giving a game a bad name just because you don't like it for what it is. Does a change in fantasy setting really not excite you guys? I'm totally willing to look past any flaws to enjoy a MMO experience that isn't some cheap-old fantasy rehash crap. I'm so sick of fantasy. I have not found good an immersive/inticing fantasy setting in a MMO since... Vanguard I'd say. Well, only to a certain extent... That'll wear off eventually and I'll be left with the same ol' stuff, only with a fresh new coat of paint this time around. Hence the reduced price. |
