without having to do any research myself - ahem - does anyone know where the finances come from for the development of this game?

are they going to be dependent on the profitability of Gods and Heroes?

You and a ton of other people seem to forget the MMO part in MMORPG. Massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) is a genre of onling role-playing game (RPGs) in which a large number of players interact with one another in a virtual world.
I still can't understand why people want to solo in this type of game... there's also another type of game... they are called "First Person Shooters"... those might be more your speed. Leave the grouping for the adults.

This is a common view from people who are fine with grouping. I think that may include many developers, which may explain why they are so clueless about solo playing, pretty much putting it exclusively in the beginning of the game sort of as an introduction path to the "real" part of the game, dungeon crawls and raids.

What they don't understand is that it's not the grouping that makes MMORPGs come alive, it's the players that people the world. You don't have to group with them in order to prefer to have them there, for the alive feeling of the game as opposed to the static feel of FPS games that are just you and your computer.

Just as in the real world you don't have to be a joiner, have to be part of this or that orginization, to be part of the world. Or to appreciate that the people, most of whom you don't know and don't want to know, are an essential part of your world.

So it is with virtual worlds, at least for some of us. Perhaps more of us than developers realize.

thank-you

your response saved me from all that typing - though yours was much more kindly phrased than mine normally is - get tired of trying to explain this to people that think there is only one way to play MMORPGs

Hi Mark,

If you didn't get the email with the promotion, it's because you didn't opt-in for the newsletters and promotions. If you'd like to see future promotions, you can chage those settings at our website, such as eq2players.com.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Best regards,
Richard

Damn that's not true, looking at my 'Newsletter and Promotional E-mail Selections' page, I have EQ2 ticked to recieve newsletters and updates, and I have Promotional E-mails ticked also to recieve e-mails from station only.

Ah well, re-subscribed to the game anyways, and purchased Echoes of Faydwer digitally. Gotta figure out which server has the best population to start a new character on.

I'am not able to find where i can tick of these, so could anyone push me in the right direction of where i need to go from the eq2player site?

under your account and then email settings

when i was a paying subscriber to EQ2 i would get an email every few days confirming that i had cancelled my newsletter subscriptions even though i hadn't

i would sign up again and a few days later i would get another notification that i had unsubscribed

i did finally give up

i am not a grouper  in MMOs

the only time i've teamed up is when i been playing with someone i know in RL

but Star Trek was gonna be different for me i thought - i wanted to be a scotty or bones or a spock equivalent and help with the running of a starship - but oh well

personally, i think game companies should aim lower

not lower in quality but aimed at a more select group of gamers

games that would survive just fine with 10k players - maybe several smaller games by the same company

it's a dream of course - they all want a WOW

looks like another EQ-clone is bout to bite the dust prematurely. they pushed us PVPers to the side so looks like they are getting whats coming to them

PVPers are the absolute smallest group of MMOers - they are not an issue one way or another

I would say that both role-players and crafters (the ones that solely craft) are both smaller groups, actually, especially the former.

In fact, past the general PvE crowd, I think the PvP group comes second.

Look at the popularity of PvP servers for games that support different rulesets. Typically PvE is something like 50%-60%, PvP is 30%-40%, and RP is 10%.

I would never underestimate the PvP crowd, particularly after so many people are getting burned out on static content and the loot grind.

from my experience with just the games i've played there always seems to be just one PVP server per 10 PVE (very rough estimate)

PVP - if it isn't full loot it is just carebear

I know that all those big bad gankathon, full voiced PVPers out there would beg to differ but is there really any difference between mamby-pamby PVP and plain ol' PVE

and have you quit the game or are you still paying them your monthly fee?

if it is free - including the box/download of the client i'll certainly give it a shot

if the box/download of the client is not included in this "free" thing - as in they are just talking no monthly fee/subscription but you still gotta pay $50-$60 for the box - i won't give it a second look

nothing worse than buying a game and finding out parts of it are not available to you - as in Oblivions doors to nowhere unless you pay extra
