Star Trek Online: Kohnke Sues Perpetual
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/11/07 2:27:51 PM
posted by SlaserX "Bioware bought the payment/support systems from Perpetual, but with Bioware being bought out, pending the end of this year, I think EA is going to replace Perpetual's system with their own.
I dont see Bioware ending up with STO. I could see EA, but I dont know about that. What I'm interested in seeing is, will STO be thrown up for auction, and who's going to buy it? What is Gravity going to be doing about their wht, 8? 9 million loss from Perpetual? It would be interesting to see them finally end up with the STO license.
As for Perpetual, who's to say they even did any development? There has been very little evidence of anything workable in the beginning. This may have been their plan from the beginning, defraud debtors and run off with their money and license to a valuable IP." There is one company thats taken a well loved IP and has actually got the respect and love from the IP's fan base which is a very hard thing to do and that company is Turbine with Lord of the rings. As for that screen shot, the first time i seen it i instantly thought it looked remarkably like SWG's Jump to lightspeed PS. sorry forgot to quote so just pasted :p |

The agreement gives BioWare - the company best known for their award-winning Baldur's Gate™ and Neverwinter Nights™ series, as well as the 2003 Game of the Year, Star Wars®: Knights of the Old Republic™ - the platform to deploy and support its online titles utilizing Perpetual's industry-leading technology for online game operations, deployment, infrastructure development, and community support."
Seeing Bioware have the tech the original STO is based on they could take up the license, does sound nice but what would lucasarts say about that? A KOTOR mmo = more like KOTOR for the Wii A Bioware STO = Yes please! |

Perpetual wont survive this law suit there already in huge trouble, key word "liquidation" says it all really and means the STO mmo shall enter limbo until another company comes along and breathes life into it. |

One part of me stays true to my fanboi obsession with startrek and cant wait to try it out but the other part of me wants to not think about whats going to happen to it between now and release, from what ive seen and heard it may turn out to be dungeon runners in space. |

Originally posted by knightaudit Currently im rather bemused, most of the content is now group orientated but without a LFG chat channel how are you sopposed to find a group? Most would say "find a good guild" but theres another problem, most guilds are pvp orientated with both server slots already used up as a crafter and combat character and all they do is hang around restus. I even went to restus to checkout what the pvp population is like that didnt go to well ..10 characters in restus at peek time and all they did was stand just in the pvp zone and gank anyone that happened to walk in there path (no i wasnt that dum lol) for the most the server i was on (intrepid) was a ghost town even mos eisley cantina the entertainers one stop of xp/buffing was dead. But i will say i do like all these quests does take out a lot of the grind and if only the NGE was done differently..lets say by leaving the proffs the way they were and just implementing all the extra content like the quests i'd say the game would still be thriving and giving WoW a run for its money |

Sooo i resubed to swg not long ago to see how things are, so i logged in on my old commando and decided to try my hand at the ryatt trail quests i left for dead. As always you have to hyper there (annoying!) but when i got there i was stunned at the view i had....boxes..to be exact every available stationary item like buildings, trees, bridges..even npcs where those default image boxes with the " ? " sign on them, i was speachless and very very lost because now there are no true pathways or npc's just an unending sea of boxes http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s149/jinxit_2007/screenShot0001.jpg |

Will Tabula Rasa end up being a major MMO??
General Discussion « Tabula Rasa 12/04/07 11:44:07 AM
I played the beta and my very first thought was "omg this is SWG-NGE with pretty graphics" then i checked out the skill and ability system which i felt was very like Auto Assualt and then the crafting system...again very like Auto Assualt and then i tried combat which brings me back full circle to SWG-NGE. I honestly cant see it ever being revolutionary in the mmo market in its present form but i do think it will have a long life and a very big fan base of people that like the sound of a big gun. |

What IP would you like to see as an mmo?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/04/07 11:23:26 AM
It's me again :p in addition to wanting to see a deus ex mmo id love to see an actually horror mmo with real scares and where better to start looking for an IP for a horror mmo than none other than the grandaddy of them all Call of Cthulhu but id say instead of the usual mmo camera angles the resident evil 4 behind the shoulder angle would be pretty sweet |

I'll start the ball rolling. Deus ex freakin amazing game (not invisible war that was poop) it has everything for an mmo....extensive background, factions everywhere (templars, luminati, corps to name but a few) an awesome mix n match skill system and lots of yummy weaponry and armour :p |

I dont think there will be another star wars mmo seeing sony are holding on to the franchise until the grim ( and painfully drawn out ) death of SWG and concerning the press statement recently from bioware/lucasarts, it said nothing about an mmo what it said was bioware and lucasarts are working on developing a new interactive product.....a kotor mmo?.......no......kotor for the Wii?......most probably, after all bioware have been focusing more on the next gen console side of the gaming market than the personal computer side. |

Gods and Heroes: SOE No Longer Listed as G&H Publisher
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/22/07 8:38:50 AM
Sigh, can we stop the SOE bashing for a sec, try reading between the lines. This is perpetuals first step into turning themselves into mmo developing kings , originally sony was going to take care of the tech support stuff and costumer relations because they were going to be running the servers but perpetual have taken a very brave and decided to handle it all themselves. Blizzard started off this way to with world of warcraft and look at them now!
I hope perpetuals future in the mmo world is a bright one and i wish them all the best |

Star Wars Galaxies: Chapter 6: Masters of the Wild
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/31/07 8:22:53 AM
Ok i was there when the NGE hit i was also there when the first combat upgrade hit and yes there was open testing for both the first upgrade and the NGE...both times soe wanted input from the players and both times the input they got from the tests was bad, but they still went ahead with putting what they called "progress" first instead of player input.
That caused distrust with the players when all we really wanted was the bugs that were already there fixed. On the first day of the nge hitting every server had a mass protest and no it wasnt over the "new combat enchancements" and why they sucked, it was a protest designed to let sony know that we didnt trust there involvement in the starwars lisence anymore because sony didnt trust our views.Yes Thousands of players left in weeks after the NGE but sony could have prevented this by listening to the people that were paying there bills..namely the subscribers but instead sony ignored us even going to the extreme and closing the swg chat client and moderating the forums to the point of wiping them clean. So why did people really leave swg in there thousands? Because the subscribers at the time realised after 2 complete game mechanic changes and having to take the time to get used to them sony would eventually hit them with more "amazing new game enchancements!" dedicated to all those people who have and currently play swg in its "present" state, enjoy it while it lasts. |

Star Wars Galaxies: The Complete Online Adventure Ships
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/23/06 7:19:27 AM
Wait a sec , swg has become a pale shadow of what it used to be ..an original mmorpg and yes it had bugs and problems but instead of trying to iron them out soe decided to fire the original dev team and hire a team that decided to completely disregard its fan base. I was there when all hell broke loose but the worst part was soe closing all contact with the subscribers......closed down help lines......moderated the forums and crippled the chat system that was incorporated into the launchpad client! and they did all this for what, to introduce the nge? Has anyone really played the nge? Havent you noticed the "new game enhancements" that they seem to be so proud of are in actual fact a rather shabby clone of World of Warcrafts combat , expertise and pvp systems. It's a wonder Blizzard havent tried sueing them yet....... |
