Always remember Jon, funneling investor funds into an offshore bank account is never a bad thing to do in the mmo biz. Just incase things go tits up.

The only real alternative would be Star Wars Galaxies, very similiar combat system.

There was a post in that Gamasutra thread that said that Smart's deal gave him ownership of all the QOL technology developed. Maybe he's just trying to kill the game sooner so he can move on and use the tech on other projects. Either way, it appears to be time to put a fork in this endeavor.

According to that post Derek Smart IS actually an investor so if that is true then when he says things like "you dont own this game the INVESTORS do!" or "the Investors have spoken"...then he's actually meaning himself. Im sure Mr Smart has a lot of influence with these other investors aswell including influencing there decisions because you know according to Mr Smart the investors dont have a clue about developing a game...besides him...

Is he influencing other investors to make things go his way?

Wouldnt put it past the guy or anyone else in the biz.

Pffft its not the first mmo to be rumoured to go to console (AOC, CO) its just another little piece of the hype machine that will more and likely NEVER HAPPEN just like those other OMG GOING 2 CONSOLE mmo's....

But seriously I'd never sign up to this game with that type of system, I want to play when I'm ready to play not when the system tells me I have to play.

Well that's nice to know the GM seems genuine in trying to rectify his mistake... this might be a case of Aventurine not delgating enough authority to the GMs to help out.  If Aventurine had proper protocols and procedures in place, then perhaps the player might not have to waste valuable time and effort in putting a ticket then waiting for who knows how long for a response... and perhaps a response that may or may not be to his/her satisfaction.
 

Still, I guess I can understand why giving a GM too much power might lead to corruption and temptation...  This seems like a situation of the old saying... "Between a rock and a hard place"... can't help feel bad for the player who got teleported though.  :(

The guy talking to the GM appears to be a pretty big jerk. The GM seems to be trying to solve the situation with what tools he has, but the player he's communicating with is making the situation a lot more difficult than it needs to be.

A jerk.... no not really, he asked why he shouldnt loot the guy and the GM did not explain the situation. So why should the player do what the GM asks...for all he knew this was one of those GM's that uses his god like powers to help out his buds...

Star Wars Galaxies.

Yes 4 main classes each side and then split up even more by subclasses, just like most other mmo's really.

For instance lets take the generic RPG Scout class, its split up into various subclasses, Ranger, Hunter, Rogue.

Now lets say each of the 4 classes have 3 subclasses each, that's a total of 12 separate classes to take, all based around 4 generic classes.

Again just like any other mmo...
