Richard Garriot should be exempt from bashing. With the right team he can produce great stuff. |

Originally posted by vandorn I would rather pay Tasos 100 bucks a month to piss in my mouth, than play any of the other games on the market. There are no other games that deliver anything worth playing "mmo-wise" and single player games are not doing much better, for once technology has surpassed the abilities of game companies to produce serious quality game. I think its time the designers think outside the box, introduce a game that requires a manual, a scratch pad and a fkin brain. |

I would say the system just needs to be... the spirit is brought back... but items and a "bleeding burned smashed..etc" corpse land on the ground. Cloning... sounds about right. looting needs to take the time it would take you to actually loot someone. I don't care about epic gear, if you have it you can lose it. just remember when your busting your ---, 10 hours a night for 3 months someone can get your ---- in 10 seconds... People will take precautions and it will just become a way of life... think Hollowsuit in ac. |

In wow a mob has the ability to hit for "more hp than anything has"points of damage, fly,get angry and yet cannot leave a building. In WaR guards hit for 30k I like the idea of EQ |

Why First Person trumps Third Person view....
MMORPG Game Concepts « Developers Corner 1/15/09 2:15:24 PM
I can see why a designer would want the player to be in first person view, that being almost soley for pvp purposes. "maybe the occasional sneaky goblin." The easy answer is to create a 2 plane field of vision for people who wish to be in 3rd person. one plane is displaying what the player can see "1st person" in real time, the other being the surrounding camera "3rd" that only updates when you look in that direction and only shows static objects. "like a shed or a tree" |

What a weak line-up the MMO world has
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/06/09 9:49:56 AM
All the talent in the gaming industry, got eaten up by contracts and money. I will not fault the game designers of yesterday for taking high paid positions in companies like Vivendi, SOE, EA, ect... The control over the product, and the lack of control by the veterans created this copy paste atmosphere. If you look around you will find that the same designers that made games like wow, and said clones are bailing out as soon as there contracts are up, they are teaming up with other veterans and friends. The following quote sums it up. "MY DESIGN PRINCIPLES FOR CONNECTED GAMES http://www.trionworld.com/studio.php More looking around will also show some trends really are forming, mainly the talent that mentioned earlier is moving on from the big companies.

Stuff that an AC3 must and must not have
The Tavern (General) « Asheron's Call 12/31/08 12:05:59 AM
heh, Great days were these... AC3 Lugians Tummeroks and Humans... great stuff. Item drop on death = more forthought and better teamwork. Vassal Patron system... Priceless needs an anti-exploit however. Discovering spells/ recipes... Sets AC apart from everything. Buffing... nothing like being prepared. Botting ... ucm = bad, merchants, portals and buffers not that bad. BoP items... Soulbinding an Item should cost a rediculous amount, and prevent that item from normal repairs. Cities need to be more dynamic... areas should be guild claimable, other areas close by serve as hubs, merchants and such. "players should be able to make some money by buying in one town and selling in others, this should also subsidise player crafting" the more trade coming into a city the cheaper the mats are. Eve like world AOC like melee / combos Cloth map, just like the old ultimas. no coordinate system instead of a quest log, have a search-able NPC chat log. Items need description even though random. Like old time games , you pick up the longsword, it feels weightless the runes begin to glow as you handle it. upon drawing the blade to fend off the bunneh!!! forces and energies unknown lunge the sword into Bob your vassal. heh...

R.I.P. Ned Cleverson of "Maggie the Jackcat"
The Tavern (General) « Asheron's Call 12/29/08 9:58:04 PM
Life... No one gets out alive. I also played AC back in the day, there are just some things that are cornerstones of what we do. Maggie and crew thank you for then, and thank you for now, in supporting the ac community I have always loved. Ned, will be missed, and anyone whom had the privilage of rolling with him my sympathies are with you. |

I have active subs to 4 games now, 9 accounts in total. I spent the majority of tonight playing might and magic one and talking on vent it was both fun and relaxing, except the few times I forgot to go to the tavern. It is actually the graphics that limit the game, cause the depth of a game nearly 20 years old trumps that of most new games. Darkfall seems to have us older folks by the balls on this one, anyone else dropping half a G on a beta account. |

No idea why this information hasn't been seen or shared on this site, but thats confirmed that Trion is working on a Sci-Fi title as well as a fantasy title.

Not interested in flight, on an animal at all, in the event they implement plot based character developement, then maybe it would be ok for a hand full of people to RP there way into flight. generic or class based flight = no imo. |
