Some have already stated that they have absolutely no problems supporting an unethical or unprincipled company. There are some players though that is NOT the case for. It could also be... They established funding for the EU and launch say those investors had no interest in being part of the US launch, where does that put AV... Establishing a second company with the same roll as the first, except to fund the US launch. Ethically it would the only way to release in the US. It actually puts them in a shit sandwich sort of situation. |

The community for this game is generally wretched.

As it states on the MO forum... No asset destruction, and no sieging... and they even admited its instanced. Just based on the graphics its going to be years before any company releases a game that looks as good as MO and has the ability to support both sieges and the amount of players in an area that Darkfall can now. Mortal is nice stuff if I never played AoC I would be willing to give that game type a shot. Seemless world construction was possible 9 years ago, it should be a standard today. I have been following MO for years while I respect them being straight to the point, I play for large wars politics, and I never want to play another game with 3 keshettas. Darkfall is making some amazing changes and we will find out more tomorrow. At the end of the day play what makes you happy. |

The point I was trying to convey, is this. Even if AV is self publishing in EU they could have a separate AV holding that contains a different set of US investors for the NA launch, that means they would still have to be responsible for selling the game all over again, to satisfy a whole other group of investors, even though they are self publishing the title there as well. The shares of this contract held by Tasos and crew could account for the discounted transfer fee we have been hearing about. Its possible for one company to have several franchises comprised of some or all the same people. |

yes they would also have the responsibility of making the games presence known and that would include box advertising/package design, and setting up reviews and such They would be the middleman to GNI buying server bandwidth to host the game, collecting the fee's "potential collection through a 3rd party like eu1" The art end is the dfo developement team - also part of the customer service side "in game problems" The business end is the publisher - also customer service "but account problems and stuff" The publisher can outsource almost all the tasks and just be responsible for making sure the artists and programmers get paid. |

In the days before release, November/ December 08' There was alot of talk about getting investors onboard, and there was some news links. Suppose AV built a publishing company fully knowing they would be the publishers, however the company did not have capitol to support an mmo release, so they decide to incorperate cash investors to the company and offer them equal share. This puts in motion the EU1 release. In order to commit to a US1 release they could potentially use the same company to publish the game... but what if the current investors are not interested in putting up that money? So Tasos and crew build another company and find more investors to act in the same manner as the prior company. Perhaps its this very reason that they were able to negotiate a reduced price in transfer accounts, they would be sacrificing thier shares. With the investor race that hit in the early days of launch I could propose this be a possible situation. Even though there could be multiple AV's the shares payout could be 2 totally different groups of people even if Tasos and crew are named in each company. Just my idea on what could be happening... |

I fully support Garriot and hope he takes NC to town, hopefully Garriot will hook up with Trion, or rebuild a resemblance of origin. |

Anyone else stuck in the Q to get into the game?
General Discussion « Darkfall 2/28/09 6:56:18 AM
<@Brannoc> The forever queue bug isn't really a bug, it's because the bindstone you're trying to get to is full. Just keep trying, you'll get in. To avoid being stuck in the future be sure to move to a bindstone away from newbie land

I'd easily pay 2 bucks a day, that is still cheaper than morning coffee break, 50Bucks is cheaper than a night out. I am paying 400 a month on a car that sits in a garage 7 months out of the year... I think they are doing the right thing, who wants a game disc that is gonna be a coaster of old info in a few months anyways. |

No, you should stop posting. I made a thread awhile ago that pointed out the hypocrits that would bash AoC etc for not delaying and releasing a game that wasnt finished...and then bashed games for delaying. DF needs to delay if a launch would not be very smooth, that is just common sense. Another delay would not make any of the haters who feel like aventurine owes them something and somehow wronged them in the past hate the game anymore or less. Even though they choose to follow a game they have invested no money in, they still feel entitled to something. Darkfall needs to be delayed if the devs feel it is not able to launch smoothly. It is the smart choice and OP is 100% right. History is on our side the arguement...as look at all the "big studios" who have released unfinished games and failed because they didnt delay.
Imbant well put couldn't have said it better. |

Leave it to good old GREED to expedite matters.

you are wrong sir, completely wrong. Why should they rush, if they let so many in at a time The idiot wowheads will quit and they don't have to have over inflate there capacity. They stand to make a lot more money... also the "Cartmanland Theory" |

People need to start looking at products through the eyes of the designer, if they identify with it then great support it and buy it. However if you do not identify with it move along and find something else to watch. We need people that appreciate the choices made by these games creative teams, and not hinder there process with qualms with the decisions they have obviously taken the time to consider. |

lol noobs...
Every instance you say that a game performed with no lag in 25v25 or 40v40 at least 30 people screamed cried and moaned about "LAG" I'm dead... I couldn't heal... there are a very small handfull of games that can go a full round without anyone lagging. |

only game that does 50 ppl pvp relatively ok is counterstrike. No mmo does 50 man fights well,

there was a time, when the only navigation piece you would get in game is a compass... your minimap was something that looked like this http://www.owo.com/archive/ftp/maps/u4/britmap2.gif it was made of cloth and worthy of getting mounted and framed cause it looked so cool. can you imagine the amount of cool stuff that can be stuffed into that vague at best map... Its the unknown and exploration that will truely keep people interested and digging for more. Some gamers came from games that if you didn't jot down where you were going in a dungeon you never came out. "Yeh restart the game 6 new toons" Well stepping up into games online like AC or UO, UO was all about exploration in the early days, and AC was all about the patchday hunt for new content "they acutally patch and add content all the time" Finding places like bandit castle and tou- tou for the first time were exciting. I guess it comes down to this... the more they give you, the less you use your imagination. I will say this, the requirement of an imagination to enjoy games these days just simply is not the same. The kids that play wow, just couldn't comprehend the complexity and mood a game like Darklands could throw you into on a cold winter night. I guess its my own stinkin problem that I will never in my lifetime see a computer capable of generating the kind of shit my imagination is capable of creating... who knows. |

"Asherons Call: Reborn" on the Nintendo Wii with microtransactions ???
The Tavern (General) « Asheron's Call 1/24/09 6:34:07 AM
AC on a Wii... I have heard of dumber ideas. I would have to admit though the game would need to be re-animated, retooled a bit, but the potential good that could come out of it. It would be an awesome way for turbine to use the lore they have already created. The content updates and patches are already done... Release feature rich from day one and follow the AC content and plot patches... The timeline would be interesting... Bandit dagger on the wii ... I might have to buy a Wii... |
