Funcom refused to talk about MMOs and game addiction

Should resilience be removed from the game?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 2/21/08 4:26:36 AM
Originally posted by Bama1267 To cure your lust for PvP, it is not very hard. You can try going to Halaa and see how healthy the Halaa PvP is there, or if that isn't World PvP enough for you, try ganking low levels with the intent of bringing their 70's to aid them. I always have fun with this, it brings about some of the more fun PvP in my opinion. However, you can always enter BGs and fight wherever, on the road, by the flag, wherever you want.
PvP is not limited to battlegrounds and arena, unless you let yourself be limited to it. I have PvPed for a very long time, and I did it when I was in UBRS blues with no honor system. Just go out there and have fun, that's what it is all about. |

Should resilience be removed from the game?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 2/21/08 4:22:11 AM
I agree with resilience. I don't want someone to go raid and have good PvE gear and also good PvP gear. There is arena for a reason, and resilience is a great stat. I think it has changed how WoW is played and for the better I think. If your complaint is that it's hard to get gear when you first hit 70, thats not so. Pretty easy, and sure you'll get owned with greens/blues from questing, but shouldnt that happen? I mean come on, these people who spent months on getting gear shouldnt have advantage then? This is a RPG get over it. Resilience has made PvP a lot better, as it extends fights and makes you need to stay on top of things. People who dislike resilience, I don't know what to say to you, I thought this argument was over a long time ago, but people really do amaze me. Also, PvE gear does work in PvP, you might have less survivability but, on the other side, you do more damage. Now.. let's pretend it's hard to get 400 resilience. |

Funcom refused to talk about MMOs and game addiction
General Discussion « Age of Conan 2/21/08 4:15:28 AM
How can MMOs and Crack even be compared? One is physiological and the other is psychological. Your body is not transformed and made dependant on World of Warcraft, per say. Calling games addictive is fine, although I really find it hard to become truly addicted. People who get addicted deserve it, they have weak willpower, and as I believe, only those stronger and more fit to survival are who truly succeed, that is how life works. There doesn't need to be counseling on addictive video gaming, because it's an obsession, a hobby. Crack on the other hand is a drug that manipulates your body. Video Gaming is no different than playing High School football, yet it gets way more heat. |

What I find funny is how everyone says that WoW had been declining, when in reality it had not. Is the best you can say "WoW will die." ? That's not different than me saying, "One day, you'll die, I don't know when or how, but you will." |

I think NightElfs should have the Paladin Class
Game Suggestions « World of Warcraft 2/11/08 5:39:48 AM
Originally posted by CrysiswolfOrder of the Silver Hand never allowed Night Elves into their order, and the mere fact that it isn't organized is making it even more unlikely that will ever happen. Dwarves and Humans are not going to train Night Elves in the art of the light and merely most Night Elves aren't going to want to either. Only reason Blood Elves are Paladins is because they "stole the light", which is pretty lame. If any race should get Paladin it's Undead. Elune is a deity for the Priests and Druids of Teldrassil to follow, and the Night Elves to worship. Elune has nothing to do with Paladins, as it is Uther and now the Naaru's class. |

If you have a 70, you should be able to create a lvl 40-50.

Originally posted by MrVicchio I don't understand what you mean.. part of having fun in an MMORPG is leveling and also is gearing your character. You choose to ignore newbies.. why? People who are new to the game aren't going to learn how to instance just by doing quests, you should be willing to help people learn how to play, maybe that will surface some new fun for you. Did someone in better gear kill you, and you instantly blame it on their gear? Is that why you are so angry? I really don't understand this argument, the part of the reason I enjoy MMOs over say FPS and RTS, is that it takes time and you can't just pick up the game and be at the same point I am. I enjoy leveling, as I enjoy instancing and PvP. You just might be playing the wrong game. |

I've done a total of two whole bosses my entire time since Burning Crusade came out and have a pretty swell time. You can PvP for gear now, I heard. So.. since when has it been raid or die? You mean spend time to earn gear or die? |

I don't understand why people think it'll be the end of WoW? There was a rumor that it was dying then they come out and say they have over 10 million subscribers. You have to understand.. Vanguard was supposed to kill WoW, EQ2 was supposed to beat WoW. Plenty of other MMOs too.. actually, a lot of people even believed WoW was overhyped pre-release. The point of the matter is that, it isn't going anywhere and they are only going up, people say it's in its prime, but you can only see a game's prime from hindsight, it isn't a person, it's body doesnt break down... it's a video game. |

I can't stand PvPing without being max level, it just irks me. I love zerg vs zerg, those are my favorite, like the good ol Hillsbrad Zergs and Old School AV. Those were the times.. |

I remember when games were supposed to be fun.
If you don't enjoy raiding... then why the hell are you doing it? |

I don't know if letting Warcraft fade away is something Blizzard will let, I personally have quit playing until the next expansion, not because of any flaw Warcraft has, other than Cloak of Shadows!, but because PvPing in WoW right now just isn't fun anymore, and I'm hoping that may change in the expansion or that the Death Knight class will be entertaining. That being said, World of Warcraft is the best raiding enviroment game ever created. It may or may not have the most difficult, or even cool looking, raid dungeons. It is casual raid that makes WoW so much better, you can get a group of 10 people, and be able to slowly take down an epic dungeon, and that is something of amazement. No other game has done this and the fact that heroics were added as well, made Burning Crusade a great expansion. People who say it is old, may be playing as long as I have, pretty much since release. If it's PvP you're after, World of Warcraft may not satisify you, for me it has in the past, and I see no reason why not in the future. Battlegrounds may be disappointing at best, but Blizzard has found ways to get people to do them. Arena is far from perfect, however, Blizzard has one of the best battle systems ever put into place. To say it will fade is a statement not needing to be said. I doubt it'll fade in the next five years, and I am sure it will be a long, long time before it sees its end. If you want to use the argument that all you see on forums is complaints, well that's because the people enjoying the game... are well.. playing it. |

Try RF Online if you can stand learning Korean MMOs or look into Age of Conan. |

I would never advise someone to an MMO that is not out. It is completely impossible to predict how well an MMO is going to do, no matter who it is by or what it is about. WoW had hype because it was by blizzard, but the main buzz was that it would fail horriblely, the release failed, the rest is history. EQ literally changed MMO gaming forever, but EQ2 didn't deliver like it should have, mainly due to poor UI. However, most MMOs do fail, it is hard to present and deliver a great game in the MMO community. A big part, is they take time, and if they don't take time, they are either button-mashing (what I got from Fury's "beta") or they are made by one person. Either way, they aren't fun. Warhammer Online and Age of Conan look like they will be successful. Funcom and EA Mythic (Mythic Entertainment) have both made successful MMOs and have the money and power to deliver a good MMO. (Anarchy and DAoC respectively). Did EQ2 deliver? Eventually, yes, but the wait was far too long for the impact to be great, Blizzard released a great game, and the release was bad because they didn't expect it to be so great, and in result, servers were very unstable. AoC and WAR look great, but looks can be deceiving, and never -ever- advise someone to a new MMO, especially if they get bored easy. MMOs aren't for everyone, if you find them boring, try a different genre... such as FPS or RTS... or maybe FFR, DDR, Guitar Hero, Sports games... I mean MMOs aren't the only games you can play. Just saying that certain games aren't fun when their numbers keep going UP, is simply, retarded. |

A main issue I have with World of Warcraft is that it is a PvE-first game. They balance the game around PvE and then let whatever problem with flood to PvP go and then work from there. This game was released as a PvE game, granted, but it is a far different game than when it was released.
I quit for several reasons but a main one was that they made PvP stale and boring, and even Arena wasn't exciting. They built the game to appeal more and more to hardcore players rather than casual players, which was a promise they wouldn't do.
Oh well, the first year was fun, the second year I was burnt out, but just didnt have it in me to quit, and I tell you, I don't regret it.
