The story is one of the reasons why I look forward to trying this game, in alot of other mmo's the grind to end-game became tiresome and boring and more of a race to hit cap than anything. Actually being able to enjoy the road to cap would be nice, wether Bioware pulled this off in SWTOR, thinking of the multiplayer aspect and so forth is yet to be seen.

You think SW:TOR isn't going to be a rush to endgame? In every MMO you can take your time, no one is forcing you. I met a guy on WoW, and this was in Cataclysm.. that had been playing since classic and had no idea what a raid was and all he did was roleplay/explore and do quests. He just really enjoyed the game, the story, the lore, etc.

SW:TOR is going to be an endgame-first game. The question is, is the endgame linear? I think we all know the answer.

Story-driven content is nice and dandy but it leaves the playerbase to be somewhat like spectators. I like player-driven stories.. the ones you see in EVE, Darkfall, old SWG, etc. Story-driven isn't new, it's just BioWare's fortee in their previous titles. To me at least, MMOs are meant to be worlds you take part in, that you yourself change. That the players are something more than just pawns of the developers, but are themselves pioneers of a new world.

To each their own, but multiplayer RPGs are not what I am after. I am for MMOGs..

Interesting idea, but I would never play an MMO with no character progression. I wouldn't feel like it was MY character. I don't play to just raid or PvP or whatever. I play to immerse myself in a world as character.

Exactly! Thas why I thoughted about removing character progression! So that people can get in the game, finish the tutorials, then know everything they can possibly do n be able to do them n stuff!   Or would you think having like...set ranks of progression be better but only giving extremely little bonuses n stuff?

For me, I like to always be progressing. I don't like the idea of level caps, so if I were to remove level caps and have no progression. Wouldn't that just be like Counter-Strike with dungeons?

Why should that matter? EVE was released in the same calender year as WoW and EQ2, and it had a horrible launch. The game has more than recovered. If EVE can do it, so can any other game, it isn't something that happens over night.

eve was released mid 2003! and wow came end 2004.

i'm somehow playing eve since the beginning and i cant say that eve had a horrible launch. if anything, it had a slow launch, but it keeps growing.

the fact that its not as successfull is simply because u need brains and own goals to play the game. the only goal i know in current MMOGs is become ueber by farming gear and dungeons which cant even loose. thats the point, u cant realy loose anything and people like that.

OT: tried earthrise beta because i had the hope that its somehow like tabula rasa but it wasnt. in fact, I have no clue what its like expect for crappy.

My mistake, I was told it fully launched in early 2004, if not I don't really care. EVE may not have had a horrible launch by today's standards, but by most MMOs, it's launch was not good, even for an Indie developer. I'll take that any day, though, I love EVE and it grows every year.

No, I did. I would crash when logging into my character. I tried lots, spent a good week trying to get it to work.

Well I hate Mortal, but.. are you using WinXP? You need Win7 for Mortal. Even though they say otherwise.

Oh.. well there you have it. Definitely not playing Mortal Online, then.

I tried the 14-day free trial. I got about 10 minutes of gameplay. It constantly crashed over and over. I tried re-installing, the integrity check or whatever. I just wasn't meant to play Mortal Online.

If you didn't already, try reducing the graphics settings.  Sometimes that helps.

Has anyone played this recently, and have they made any attempt at making it playable? I would check this out now that it's at a reduced price...but not if it's an unplayble mess.

I hear that the performance is better and they have added stuff, but who cares if theres only 50 people online. MMO's get one chance and its call launch.

EVE Online agrees.

Eve online wasn't release in 2011

I would because well, the pvp croud is honestly a very small percentage of all mmo players, you can especally tell this by the very low populations in games like darkfall etc. Yes Pve titles have tons more. I only consider a game having pvp if its part of the endgame like Aion, Dark Age of Camelot. I personally am sick of Pve only endgames, imo you should have to pve raid or craft. for the best gear in game then if you so choose go pvp with it, this is the formula Aion and DAoC uses. Sadly most mmo's like to copy world of warcrafts purely pve carrot-on-a-stick endgame game after game after game. Its making me sick of mmo's because none have endgame worth bothering with. Sadly my pc can't handle Aion to well, Wouldn't be able to handle the mass faction vs faction pvp. I hope SW:ToR has some kind of faction vs faction pvp with land control that gives entire faction bonuses. The game just screams for it.

Yeah, you can tell in titles like Darkfall, had nothing to do with hacking, exploiting or in general the insanity of the grind.

Absolutely.   I never pvp.   To me it always seems aimless, like you're never really progressing.

I do think the OP has a valuable point.     Almost every MMO has both PvE and PvP and while it's fine to balance the classes for PvP, such balance should not screw over PvE.    PvE needs to have very different classes, and developers should not be trying to make them balanced for the PvE part of the game.

The only way I can see this done right is if the PvP version of a class is quite different from the PvE one; having different strengths and maybe even abilities.

City of heroes does this, the skills do diffrent things in pve and pvp, and they can individually be changed for either pve or pvp by cryptic, So pvp balance won't effect pve balance and vice versa. Dungeon Fighter Online also does this, u can see pvp stats and pve stats for skills by hitting a button. Mind you pvp in both these games has no purpose. Only game with meaningful pvp so far was Daoc, Aion, and Fallen Earth.

Really, those are the only games with meaningful PvP? Wait, and Fallen Earth..? Are you on crack?

PvP isn't killing the RPG-element. Open-world seamless worlds with PvP add to the immersion of an RPG, it's this mass instancing, narrow-minded, linear style of play that is killing them. I can't stand playing a game where there is -no- PvP. Why? People will find ways around it, to harras and kill other players.

Why would I play this over a good multiplayer FPS?

They don't have persistant worlds..?

yeah its kinda sad that this isn't immediately obvious.

.....also..... when did this thread become about what Axehilt (and the like) want?   this is about what WE WHO ARE NOT SATISFIED want.

@Axehilt (and the like), go enjoy your awesome games, and quit missing the point and asking irrelevent questions about what YOU want.  this thread is not about you.  you're supposedly satisfied with the status quo.

or could it be maybe even YOU GUYS rather fuss in the forums and complain about what OTHERS want, than to "play" your grindy "games" that you're supposedly so satisfied with?

i know I sure wouldn't be here if i was satisfied by a current MMO.

PlanetSide 2 should be out early next year, gameplay video looks solid, Smedley is ready to push it. I'm pretty pumped for PS2, and if it can deliver, I think it will be just what the MMOFPS community is looking for.

Asheron's Call 2 had a similar system. You would add to your skill trees, I think very much like a skill-tree in these modern times, but if you wanted to respec you would have to grind that exp and if I remember correctly, nearly everything was based off of getting exp.

Norway stood up to the Soviet Union for decades. This isn't going to make them run away and hide.

Yeah, because it's Norway's business what happens in the Middle East, right? What are they doing there anyway?

The high price is there probably to make sure only those who really really want the CE get thier hands on someting with a limited supply, and it is probably more limited in Denmark than it is the U.S.

The law of supply of demand =capitalistic profit. You call it greed, but EA is following a system and prinicple which your economy is also based on, so I think it shoul be understandable.

I pesonally believe in a more socialist system with price cielings etc  (I also believe in a free market but with a lot social programs), but the sad fact is the invisible hand of the free market is better suited to better accomodate for a struggling economy that can not provide for everyone, and so it makes room for those who earn it. by offering them a price that reflects the supply and their ability to buy, by how much they earn and how much they demand for it/willing to pay for it.

Also it does not make sense for a government to apply social benefits for a game considering other matters. Kind off topic, but it does make a point.

Sucks though. Condolences.

Socialism doesn't work. See: Ludwig von Mises.

I think merging NA and EU is the best option. Where to put the server is a good question, but the biggest problem with DFO is population and I think this would definitely help. I also think Aventurine should re-enlist -everyone- who has purchased the game. I first heard the idea from Ryan over at http://blog.mmosmacktalk.com, so it surely isn't my original idea, but it is one I 100% agree with.
