I just find EQ1 to be more challenging, I have tried many many MMO's and In some cases I find them to be well shallow, some look good, but dear lord they be shallow.

So I end up going back again and again, its really as simple as that.

This is how I feel right now

AMEN to that, that's exactly the result I had going on in my head when I read the headline...

Just to be clear, you did delete partions and reformatted hard drive, if you didn't there are several boot sector virus's that are quite pesky and do a complete shut down.

Plus have you done a scan of the hard drive for errors, once windows start up switchs over from boot sector to the rest of the hard drive, it hits a bad sector and dump.

you changed so much if after the above,  it crashs after windows start screen I would be looking at the hard drive, for the MOBO to manifest the same result every time it gets to windows start screen is unlikely even if it is old, and video card initialization has already occurred, so for me hard drive fault/virus.

EQN after having the smallest amount of hands on tools in the alpha of EQNL, I can see however great potential.

Then its Warhammer, and hoping that finally after 15 years of attempts to get off the table top and onto our screens, hope they find a way to make it suck less than a Stephen KIng Movie with him playing a cameo role.

I jumped right in as I always do, had a polished granite 5 large block high tower built, took me 8 hours of game time, then discovered what template actual means and lost tower, but lesson learnt.

Its not that hard to stumble through learning by trail and error only, even  in Alpha 60% feature mode.

For an Alpha it is quite smooth, seen hellishly worse than this in so called Beta stage .

Just completed iron pick rare, dug a tunnel straight through a mountain and hollowed out a large square and timed how long it took.

Trail and error for me is more fun than documents, however I have a number of destroyed appliances at home that stand testament that its not always the best way LOL.

They will declare a technical bankruptcy, gives them some clear air as entrenched company rules can be suspended, they do lay offs some musical chairs then refloat stocks after a spin blitz.

Its a good way to get out of dead weight contracts.

As a brand name and with "certain other brands" closely linked will be retained to continue brand name awareness etc etc.

In the business world the rules of having a healthy bank account do not apply...

I have used the station pass for the last 5 years, it has proved for me to be a real good deal, as at various points I have been playing 2 or more titles at a time, and with the gold member perk thang I feel even better for paying it.

Cash shop prompts do get on my tits I must admit, but sadly its a phase that is effecting all of  the MMORPG industry to some degree.

You have to have a plan and and a bit of willpower in this game, I started off years ago with the aim to pay my subs by in game currency, self supporting if you will.

I now have 3 accounts all self funding, all 3 fill different roles with some overlaps such as mining, but all 3 of them interlink in ways to max the earnings of each other.

Then on those principles I formed a corp, taught some new eve players some stuck around some left, but even in leaving some helped form networks to other corps, which in turn generated even more demand and industry grew........

I applied what I had learnt in my personnel life (working Life mainly) set out a goal, and stuck to the plan

Someone was complaining they could not make isk as a newbie, I made a new char and ran him through some things, even on trail accounts you can make decent isk to support your activities.

As in real world business find a niche and exploit it, the trick is spotting the niches, be it pirate, be it mining or even industry.

Here is one tip as a low level, SHUTTLES  easy to make, find a hub that's a very good distance away from another, go out say 9 jumps and exploit the lazy by seeding the places with 10 shuttles per at in some case 10x times the cost, sounds chump change but when you sell in mass numbers it adds up fast.

Its how Walmart and there ilk survie.

Next join a corp and make sure the corp is networking, ie in an alliance it doesn't stop the stupid war dec griefing, but it helps lower it, once in a good corp help and opportunities will come.

Fair cop about SP to MMO's, however the point about planetside 2 is valid latest rounds of optimization for the game have made it very good under load, though personnel experiences do differ.

Even if they just pushed up to near the level of PS2 I think all will agree it would look better, same engine but one looks like a re-rendering of WOW and the other looks well good.

PS2 has pretty minimal customization for character models. That's why it can run FPS battles between 200 people and make it work.

I did say pushed to near PS2 quality, I accept some sacrifices for the customizations but as I said the engine is still under going optimization  as is coming along very well, I just do not accept the gulf of difference between the two.

To maybe highlight my meaning a bit lets switch history a bit, say EQN launched before Planetside2 and everyone is told Planetside2 will be running the same engine, hold that thought for a minute then respond as if that was true.

It's clearly a WoW inspired art style. I love the ideas behind the game, but the art-direction is a huge turn off. I'm a grown adult, I simply don't like playing games that looks like this, it just doesn't immerse me in the experience :/

I think EQ2 looked just as good, it really looks terrible for a 2015 game.

I'm a grown man and, so far, I'm liking the art style. There's a difference between being grown up and trying to act grown up. Just because your an adult doesn't mean you can't enjoy some childish things. For example, I still enjoy some of the Disney and Pixar films, as I'm sure most adults do. Not to mention, we're all sitting here discussing video games, something which is still widely considered to be for children.

So, it's fine to not like the art style, but don't try to act as if your too grown up for it, or that just because it has a cartoony look it means that it must be a children's game.

All art in whatever form is subjective, to say its childish is silly, because then you would have to find some other art and say, "Oh that's grown up" , makes no sense.

The look is a personnel thing, I don't like it looks wise, but by the same token I understand the considerations of the voxel and mesh, so over all I'm intrigued by the game, not the look.

Are they pretty much saying this is for the sandbox players, whereas the real EQN will be "WoW".

you're not alone. Im confused as hell now. Why dont they just focus on developing EQN rather than wasting time and money on another "amazing MMO". I dont have a good feeling about this.

Because they don't have the funds nor staff nor time to finish EQN.

I've been saying this for weeks now and people can't believe that SoE would be in such a position.

Well they are.

EQL will be heavily monetized, which is why its not a building tool anymore but now its more of a game - they need the funds from EQL for EQN.

They also really need players to make usable assets for EQN - they keep bringing up "co-developing EQN with players" not because its a nice thing to do - they really need help.

EQN team is small - far too small to finish a major AAA groundbreaking MMO. Remember that EQN is on its 3rd iteration/relaunch internally now - SoE has spent a buttloadnof money and the game is nowhere near even fully conceptualized, let alone done.

What SoE needs desperately is to clean house at the top exec level just like Trion did, its time

 ........

Amen to that Ive said for years Smed needs to go, his style of constant borderline BS, his almost mental illness like desire to stamp HIS DNA into every game even though he suffers badly from the first point I made, always gives SOE detractors endless ammunition.

Sorry just caught this and im getting on a bit and smartphone purchase im reading this on, is making me wish a bought a tablet instead (blah blah).

So excuse me if this has been suggested, with laptops of which ive had over 10 with work etc etc, the biggest cause of laptop not powering up is failure of the overly priced chargers, Tagan, Belkin and the like, if they don't out right go dead (the charger) they get a bad earth, drain your laptops battery and fail to recharge.

Short answer have you tried another laptop power supply ?

I agree with some of the earlier comments, way to many rose tinted glasses.

I tried for over a year to love the game, but it launched as a badly patched up multi visioned lack of true direction mess, and to the utter amazement of those that stayed for a long period it managed to actually become more of a mess until you only really played for a PVP fix.

Beggers belief that while it was going through another upheaval and chopping of parts of the game, that yet again they just could not make work, (mostly in my belief that they had farmed out work to 2 interns) they launched the free till lvl 20 thing, well way to go Einstein's at speeding up the bad news about  yourself for free.

It would never of gone FTP because the earnings from whatever cash shop EA would of wielded onto the game would of reduced the games monthly earnings to like $12 dollars, becauses someones little sister wanted them to ride the pink fluffy Squig, and wouldn't shut the hell up until they bought it.

To  have the faction complexity of EQ1 where you had Good and Evil but many many layers of grey, and if there is factional good versus evil, to make Evil actually evil in direct proportion to how they always make the Good side so damned right overly sickenly  sweet and F-ing fluffy.

For instance my favorite race combos are Iksar Necro or Sk,  I want to feel like I am taking on an evil xenophobic naturally evil character , im cold blooded and I don't do F-ing Hugs or dancing.

Give me the tools to create a character along its factional lines, let the evil side be griefers to a certain degree, make them feel hunted by the majority, but hunters of the few, give them enclaves and cities make the factional stuff truly a massive difference between races and roles chosen.

Like Eve but with more safe options, I'm a realist, I like pvp, but prefer factional pvp, but at the same time I know that a majority would prefer PVE, I'm not sure how that would work, I have an idea of what I want, but even then there is a few conflicting notions.

To condense it down then to make my feelings better understood, with all the talk of realistic graphics or not, dynamic this and that, all these things miss the point to me, what I want is a realistic character, (in the sense of a realistic personnel involment in a fantasy world)  I want a proper character that does things and is reacted to, probably a lot more so than EQN has thus far alluded to.

To clarify I am not talking about flagging or my name turning a dumb ass different colour, I,m talking about Evil races and classes being able to be what it damn well say's on the tin, and not a person choosing a Troll lets say for instance and doing all the same stuff that a person rolling a high elf does.

Even after that long ramble I still don't think I'm making the point I want to make, suppose that's why it hasn't been done properly in a game to date, once you start thinking how you want, even as a player not a designer you hit these big walls of idea conflict.

The old art assets from 2010 were good, I to would like to see what they were doing before, as for Vanguard, bar the fat freckle ginger haired child of an engine it did have some very interesting features, first time I found crafting to be engaging, and being an adventurer was just one sphere you could lead your whole mmorpg experience as a crafter, diplomat or mass murderer for xp.

Vanguard had the ideas, just lacked the  talent to get them all on screen without dribbling and soiling  itself and asking strangers to sniff its finger.

Still playing as a Goblin and hearing some of the cheeky retorts by goblin NPC,s was fairly amusing.

The more "casual" players demand convenience and readily accessible features in their games, the more we get bullshit like Tera and Aion and SWTOR -- you know, the games people stop playing after a month.

Remember when games didn't display pop-up windows telling you where to go? Remember when death was aggravating yet exciting and was an adventure in itself? Remember when games actually felt like fantasy worlds?

MMOs of the last decade have provided the blandest, most sterile experiences because developers insist on listening to people who truly don't know what they want. So go ahead and oppose "encouraged" grouping and death penalties. That only ensures you'll never play a worthwhile MMO.

Jaded cynical are the lost and the lonely here, they have been at various times conned , jilted and abused, its a refuge for those that if they had houses would scream "GET OF MAAA LAWN" even if their target was just a humble sparrow.

Nothing can give them their innocence back, only thing for them to look forward to is a possible epic sun solar storm that destroys all things electric, or maybe death.

My wife said she won't play EQN unless they have Iksars.

So they better have Iksars, that's all I'm saying.

You better plead with SOE to include Iksars if they're not. How often you get to play their game depends on it! =p

Well it depends.  I could see her settling for a Ratonga, or maybe even a Froglok, but none of those, or iksar, are original EQ races.... so there's a chance my wife will be mad and in turn will effect my game play lol.

Well in all seriousness, she'll still probably play.  She'll just be bitter about the lack of Iksars :(

She wont be the only one "Chucking their Teddy Bears out of the cot" if there isn't Iksar's from the get go, same boat, wife has  only played Iksars since kurnak, even had a iksar only guild for awhile on the RP server.

Myself, well my main is an iksar necro, but I did play a few other races wasn't quite as xenophobic as my wife, which is ironic if you think about it.

Necro / Rogue,  shadow step to behind target and duel dagger backstab and proc life steal, while pet teabags them from the front.

Hmmmm even though I just typed it, I just reread it and thought "DAMN that's would be awesome"

DISCLAIMER...note I said thought, instead of heard voices say...Subtle difference in my case , but hey.

I guess I really did want EQ1 in an updated form.  I appreciate the developers' attempts to make something new, but it's so far removed from EQ1, I just don't feel a connection to it.

Same boat, I'm hoping the lore will re-engage me when I try it...No freaking Iksar's so far is however really twisting my knickers into a ball however.

Oh and Smed's usual bullshit par excellence about game playablity, that guy twists words with the skill of a politician, with just enough get out room to have a plausible, " HUH NO no no I clearly meant".

He is quite the Banker spelt with a  'W" .

While the graphics are, well that's been discussed enough, its the overall package that's leaving the EQ connection cold, need to see a lot more, as the narrow window they have shown has in my opinion explained the real reason for the black box, and I think they should of kept it in a black box for at least another 6 months, this reveal has done them a disservice.

Inviting ex EQ players to Las Vegas, all the building up and hints, then this package drop, are mostly the reasons for some peoples butt hurt, and its justifiable as well in my opinion because their expectations were fed drip by drip,  after all the quote about EQ fans will recognize and enjoy the new world, was  a cold hard misdirection.

Myself,  i'm going to try, I hated GW2 and their ilk's combat, but that's a personnel thing, but I love crafting and the possibilities I see in that have me interested more than anything at the moment.
