Of course you can. Although no minimum requirements have been made public yet (and I don't know what kind of machine you have) the philosophy of game development was to aim at a wide audience and therefor not to demand a top end computer to be able to play. Look at the graphics. It may look good, but at closer inspection you will see it is not that detailled at all. This might be one of the reasons why they changed the art design to a cartoonish style. They must have picked that up from a well known mmorpg. I am certain you know which one I mean.

Is this true? I mean, is this game really not ready for release? From the video I saw from Leipzig GC it looked good. Why do people say it is too early?

That was answered in the press-release that announced their involvement. Iirc all players of the band like playing on line games. The band is dutch. The game developer is dutch. When asked by SIL they said yes. Along those lines.

Nice for AoC, but what I really would like to know what where the reasons for the jury to decide this was the best game. Not that it really matters. I am gonna decide for myself after the game has been released, not before, but still, would have been nice to see what professionals have to say about this game as shown at the GC.

In chronological order:

  1. The Chronicles of Spellborn
  2. Age of Conan
  3. Warhammer Online

Have fun the coming months. Till they come out, yes, EQ2 keeps one occupied.

Definately The Chronicles of Spellborn. Probably a better game than AoC anyway, but perhaps a bit less PvP oriented. Although that still remains to be seen.

In the future, your best bet for a really active RP community will be either WAR or AoC, they both have a fantastic lore behind them and will no doubt have a very strong RP community shortly after launch.

You are forgetting The Chronicles of Spellborn which probably has a much better setting for RP then either of those games, plus it will be the first to be released.

Better not wait for any game. It will only lead to frustration. Release date will be delayed for any mmorpg.

Good decision for this game. It was clear that it needed a hell of a lot more polishing then they could accomplish in a few weeks.

And the whining is the reason why I don't like official forums.  It's the only thing that isn't offered by unofficial forums.

One of the beauties of official forums is that, like any other forum, you don't HAVE to read them...so I don't see why the whining would bother you.  On the other hand, forums do offer a direct line of communication to the devs (via the CMs), as well as valuable resources on class-based, game-based, quest-based, etc. issues.  To me it signifies a level of professionalism if you will.

But why does it need to be official forums to provide that "direct line of communication to the devs (via the CMs)"... These aren't official forums, yet here I (the CM in question) am responding to your post...
Don't you know? An official forum is a form of customer service. Unofficial forums can be discarded at any moment and databases be lost due to bad maintenance (poor back-up protocols). To guarentee quality of service you do it yourself or hire professionals to do it for you.

You mentioned that TCoS has it's own following, but where? Their main website forums move incredibly slow. The TCoS fansites I've searched for are the same way, 1 post every couple of months maybe.

The following has become very silent since september last year when the game was supposed to be released. The post-ponement and the lack of information resulted in the feeling everything worth discussing has been discussed many times over without resulting in any new insight. People started lurking the forums instead. Many have indicated that they were just lurking. SIL was to blame for this, and only now signs are there that SIL is becoming more active again with giving information. The forums will pick it up, no doubt. Don't know about fansites. Never visit those things, but I know of fansites of another game that are virtually dead while the game is the largest mmorpg at the moment.

Things will change with open beta, and when not, then we will need to hold out breath for sure. Not now. I do understand your concern, but I am not worrying. It is a good game that will appeal to a large group of players.

The road to launch for Warhammer is still very long, much longer than that of Spellborn. From your perspective I would worry more about AoC. Better still is not to worry at all. TCoS has a following. Perhaps not as big as some other games, but more than enough to make TCoS a commercial success. Whether TCoS will be a bigger hit than AoC or WAR now looks unlikely, but that may change when the game is out, no matter when the game comes out. That should not even concern you and me. And, being a big hit has its draw backs. Maybe the release of AoC and WAR are the best things that can happen to TCoS. Comparable to the release of EQ2 at the time WoW was released.

I have read the footage about the combat system and have seen in game combat. What else do they need to do before you deem the combat system to be unveiled?

Anyway, I think WAR will be a fun game when it delivers, but so far it does not seem to be my kind of game. So I will be glad when TCoS comes out, because that game is very close to what I am looking for. I do not believe TCoS will loose its audience just because some other game will be released. TCoS is just too good for that. Only a disastrous open beta and launch might drive people away, but it looks like they are working hard to prevent that from happening at the moment.

I do not believe everyone will like TCoS because of its look and feel, but for those who do like it it will be a pleasant surprise. A real fun game to play with a lot of depth.

Lets put it this way: I might try other games, but I will try TCoS.

No one knows. It is an mmorpg. Officially they are aiming at an open beta and release in Q4 2007.

More information is coming out at the moment, btw. Check the dev section on their forums.

WoW continues to grow. That is quite an achievement. What I would like to know is the total amount of accounts created since launch. That number would be indicative for the potential market for mmorpg's that Blizzard might have created with WoW.
