$35 buys you Classic-Cata right now.

$35 is a good deal for it. I'm over my WoW addiction, now I just hang out with my friends Jim, Jack, and Jose to fill the void XD Although that does seem to be more expensive than $15 a month :( |

Some elves are ok, my Elven Warden in Lotro, is a defender of nature, but isn't a pansy that won't resort to violence. I always RP very crude and rude when it comes to battling (for an elf). RP in town usually begins with /me cleans the blood of his golden gleaming armor. :) |

I'll agree, I would've added Skyrim to the list instead of any one of those. However, I think most people already have Skyrim don't they? Maybe BF3 or Arkham City. Or for the nerd on your list a build-it-yourself computer package off newegg or tigerdirect :D:D:D (that's what i got last year hehe) |

Are Voice Overs destined to be the new "must have" feature, or just a gimmick?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/05/11 5:06:12 PM
The problem with having voice overs, then taking them away, or making a game that doesn't have them is alot like Age of Conan. I think almost everyone agrees that the isle of Tortage is one awesome place since the npcs all talk to you and such. Once you get off Tortage, the voice overs stop except on some questlines. It made the game feel half done (it was half done, but this made it worse).
I wouldn't go so far as to say it will be a requirement. There's still single player games that don't have voice overs, and they're pretty good. It's a nice feature more than a requirement. Much like having a steering wheel for GT5 or Forza. It's really nice to have, but you can still play with a controller (well I probably can't anymore since I've been using a wheel since the original GT lol). |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Choose Your Side: Imperial Agent vs. Jedi Consular
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/04/11 9:11:31 PM
At level 22 I hit a Shadow in pvp for 981 damage, crit ambush :D That'll teach him to try and kill my friends :) I love ambush, laze target, snipe :) |

I agree that the replay value isn't that great, however, it does well at keeping you playing on just a single character. |

I'm still not totally sold on the entire game, however, I am sold on the Imperial Agent and Bounty Hunter. The storyline is really good for these once you leave hutta. The other classes are still kind of bland imo. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Mirrored Classes
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/30/11 9:38:30 PM
They're not completely mirrored, consular uses force to pick up things to throw, inq shoots lighting...I mean it does the same thing, but doesn't look the same at least hehe.
Edit: At least now people can't cry about imbalace of sides...although I'm sure there will still be crybabies QQ'ing about some kind of imbalance lol. |

What class will you be come launch
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/30/11 9:36:36 PM
I'll probably still be IA. It was my choice when classes are announced. The storyline is really great, and the voice acting is good. If not that then i'll probably have a female twi'lek counsular. Although I dont' like the story as much, the voice acting for female characters are so much better than the males. |

It's the same as in most other MMOs, but in flash points after the Esseles you really have to watch your party's health, and be quick on the draw. One of the best aspects I thought was on my level 17 sage, I was brought along with level 30+ people to help out, and they were happy to have me with them. |

Originally posted by TookyG It proves that the people running the stock market are total idiots and need to be replaced or taught somethings. Apple makes such horrible products. They're cheaply made, usually breaking so often you go buy another because it's "Apple" and Apple makes twice the money of let's say Samsung who's products last for years and cost less. It may be different now, but I bought an original iPhone when they first came out. I never had so much trouble with a phone. I had to get the attenae replaced, it was malfunctioning, touchscreen stopped working, after about 8 months the battery life went to about an hour of standby, went through two batteries all within the 2 years. As soon as my contract was up, I switched to a Samsung phone and didn't have a SINGLE problem, not even a dropped call. I'm a pretty clumsy guy, and I dropped my iPhone one time and it had to be replaced, the screen cracked right in half, and that was on CARPET. I've dropped my newest Samsung galaxy 2 several times, even on concrete, the only thing you'll notice is a couple of paint chips on the corners that it hit, which you still can't see until you get upclose since the underlayment is black as the paint is too. So if we're going to put stock market numbers against company product, Apple is at $375, Samsung should be over $1,000,000. Stocks are irrelevant.
Edit: And I didn't even mention the fact that Apple comes out with underpowered and overpriced products every 3 months...the iPhone 4 still can only run one app at a time....horrible. You buy the top of the line Apple, and it's way outdated in 3 months when they release the new model. There's been more than 4 models of the iPhone, there's been probably like 50-60. |

Dynamic World concept: Which would you prefer?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/29/11 11:50:57 AM
The option of the "World reacting to the Player" would really only work in an RPG like Skyrim. In an MMO, you can't have 500,000 people going around killing kings, because that would be so unimmersive (is that even a word lol?). Now I do like the idea of those around and close to me changing due to my actions. My own little world if you will. People scoughing at me in the streets if I did something against thier cousin, people greeting me with women and gold when I'm their hero, but not necessarily the kingdom's hero.
The option of the "Player reacting to the World" would work alot better in an MMO, or most genres really. Having warring kingdoms taking over territories and having some sense of "no control" is what makes most games so appealing to me. But having control in those around you, and the world forcing you to do something is alot more realistic. This is why Skyrim is so good. Although you're the hero, you don't actually have to be if you don't want to. I have an Orc warrior/smith that I'll never complete the main storyline with. I'd rather just hang out in the orc forts dotted around the lands of Skyrim and just be simple. If a dragon happens to plop down and threaten my village, well then I'll be forced to behead the thing, but I'm not going to go out looking to slay Alduin. |

I only had one crash from the last two weekends. It was in the first weekend, but that was resolved quickly. |

What was the best class story? (No spoilers pls!) ^^ (now with poll)
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/29/11 11:31:30 AM
I liked my Female Twi'lek Jedi Counsular. As mentioned before, I think it has the best voice acting in the game. It's really what a Jedi would say. As for the gameplay itself, I feel that Counsular is pretty weak though. I made both a sage and a shadow, got them to level 17 and 19. I can't help but think I was underpowered.
I had a level 22 smuggler, that would put the shadow's damage to shame (shadow's supposed to be like a WoW Rogue I think). The best thing about the Shadow was you can use a dual-blade lightsaber, my favorite weapon since I first set eyes on Darth Maul and thought "OMG, I want one!". The Shadow is ok once you can just run by mobs and not even have to fight your way in, but my companion still did more damage. I figured with a dual bladed lightsaber it'd be my main way of attack, but the force powers are more damage and debilitating.
Sage is also underpowered in damage, but makes for a really really good healer. I just let my Trandoshen buddy do all the damage and tanking and I just healed him, and threw in some telekinetic tossing and what not when I could. At level 16 I was chain killing champion ranked monsters solo for fun. The fights lasted about 2-2.5 minutes each, but my Trandoshen buddy never got below 75% health, and I had enough force to chain 3-5 at a time depending on if I got into the fight myself or not. I felt kind of bad that my companion could probably whip my butt though, since his damage far outweighed mine. He'd hit a regular mob twice and it'd be dead or just about dead. It takes me 4-5 force moves or like 10 lightsaber strikes to kill.
I think BioWare should increase the attack damage of shadows from lightsaber moves, and give sage something more solo ability. In a party, Sage is awesome though.
Edit: Just for the record, I was messing around with voice acting and got every class, gender, race combination to at least level 5. Female voice acting is far better than the male voice acting on almost all accounts. Only exception would be the Rattataki, the male is alot better than female. |

Latest beta weekend client will work at launch

doesn't matter to me, I leech off a nearby wifi hotspot that let me download the beta client in under 30 minutes :) |

the only reason you shouldn't have your companion with you is if you're in a full group, send them to craft/sell. The later levels in scavenging missions take awhile for your companion to get back. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Five Not So Great Things About SWTOR
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/28/11 2:43:30 PM
I've played several classes, and the list is pretty fair, the only thing I have to say (which is mentioned) is that the smuggler and bounty hunter seem to be the only classes that side quests make sense for. IMO you always just hit the option that mentions credits and the voice acting seems like how my character should react, but i'm still not sure why almost always taking credits is a darkside option. I'm a smuggler, I'll do anything for enough creds :)
Space combat isn't very interesting for me. I've only done it a couple of times, and found it boring. I'd rather run for cover on my smuggler, and shoot some bad guys :) Trooper is another good class, but the side quests often make you seem to be soft. You can help people without being soft, but the voice overs just make you sound like a hippy or something. Once again on my Trooper I had to choose the darkside chioces, just because to me. You're a soldier in a battlefield, you're supposed to be a BAMF, not some guy with feelings for a group of kids, and too bad you don't have an option to knock people out and carry them out of the place when they won't cooperate. Sith don't seem evil at all. As mentioned in the article, if you play a "real" sith, you won't ever level up or get gear. I'd say an option to kill the contact and just take the "reward" is much better...that sounds ALOT more like a sith to me :)
Overall it's still a decent game, and I'm sure the real thing will be a little better if not alot, so it's still going to be good. |

Poll: How do you like SWTOR:
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/27/11 12:05:33 PM
I'm disappointed in everything except sound, and the IA, Trooper, and Smuggler quest line and combat. The graphics are just too cartoony. I feel like I'm in the clone wars cartoon show, not the "real" star wars. I have the graphics turned to max (gtx 580) and it doesn't impress me (maybe Skyrim has biased me now lol). The side quests are all the regular, go kill this, retrieve that which we all know. The Alignment system, as far as level 22 Trooper, 20 Smuggler, and 16 IA, has really no bearing on the game, seems gimmicky. Unlike the kotor games, alignment does nothing too noticable. The Cover feature for smuggler/IA is probably the most fun and cool looking thing in the game, which is sad. The Jedi and Sith classes are so bland and extremely disappointed. I'll admit I never really like the "force sensitive" characters in any of the Star Wars movies, and only liked them in other games when I was forced to play as them. I'm more of a Commander Cody or Han Solo type of guy I suppose. If it wasn't for trooper and IA/smuggler I probably would've quit after playing 20 minutes.
I have a level 14 Sith Maurader, which I was going to make my main when the game came out (class-wise). However, I don't get the feeling of being Sith enough. You get the option to outright just kill people in conversations within the first 15 levels of IA than you do for both Sith classes combined to level 50 (reading about the entire storyline from wiki). Which doesn't makes sense to me. Sith Warriors especially should be just rampaging murderers, at least that's my view of what a sith warrior is (Darth Vader anyone?). And Sith Inquisitors, while being able to torture, you never really get to kill innocents...Overall a big disappointment.
I know I've been talking negative for this whole post pretty much, but I will probably still get and play this game, at least until guild wars comes out. I was really hyped up on being able to be evil, but I guess that's out the window. Thankfully, I found Trooper and the Cover classes to be enjoyable.
Edit: Just an addition of my opinion. It would be more fun to be empire if there were more than just 3 options in conversations. Empire players should always have a 4th option to just outright kill the contact, or at least threaten to kill them, or shock em with a little lightning or sever a hand with your lightsaber for interrupting your quest to superior power :) |
