Why Guild Wars 2 is REALLY a competitor of WoW
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 1/14/11 7:13:59 AM
First off if guild wars 2 is a mmo like wow, arena net can't afford the costs of servers+ maintenance so the no subscription is fishy. And trust me, no company out there gives money away for no reason. And if it is true than you can expect something else in return. Like a nice expensive in game shop, or advertisements or ... .
You can't stop wow with something like a different game. I mean does adidas stop nike ? Does coca cola stop pepsi? etc... Everyone has different tastes. No matter how much you dislike something, others do like it. The only reason a mmo has ever stopped is because the game devs behind it made it crappy. No more, no less.
And if you think wow is crappy, but you still have a subscription running?? Sad to be you. Don't give me that bulshit of: "yea but I am waiting for something better...". You do realize there are other things in life than gaming, right? |

Only thing i can say is that they aren't interested in a big user base since my pc can't even run it on lowest settings :o I don't have a crappy pc ... I can run most games on medium settings but this is rediculous. Learn how to build a graphics engine, don't just focus on heavy stuff but give the possibility to be able to lower specific stuff. Like grass or lighting or... |

No grind ... where have i heard that before ... Owyea every other mmorpg that came out.
Hyping a game doesn't make a game better. It just blurs your reality, making it better than what it actually is. Imo just wait and see. |

what did WoW do, that other EQ clones didnt do, which made WoW so Successful?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 7/02/10 12:17:04 PM
1) The feel of the game was just right. Animations, world, authenticity 2) End game... which is something that is not found alot in most new mmo's. 3) A very big open world without expansions. 4) A lot less laggy in combat than most mmo's out there. 5) Pve balance was good. For example you could kill something 1-2 levels higher than you. Which was impossible in most mmo's at that time. You could barely even kill a mob 1 level lower in other mmo's. This still occurs in some new games. 6) And it was just plain fun. The other mmo's felt more like work from the moment you start the game. Ok there are still some moments where you feel like work but tbh at that moment it was alot worse in other mmo's. (Lineage2, daoc, ...)
Most of these problems still happen in new mmo's. Instance zones, lag in combat, ZERO endgame, feels like work, etc. But yea wow sux now too since its just to main streamlined now. I mean lol at achievements :o thats just one of those things that makes gamedesign a big joke. |

Originally posted by Papadam Since when is guild wars a mmo? it just has a very fancy gather place which was a waste of development time anyway. Could have been a regular chat box and more development time for the content of the game. The game is actually like hon or LoL. No one says they are mmo's but they are basicly the same thing. They just didn't waste time on some city to gather in.
The reason gw was free is because it didn't need the heavy lifting of servers as in open world mmo's. So if you see that a new mmo has an open world, either its gonna have an in-game store, or payment on interval. And if it doesn't have an open world, than it just bad publishing. |

I expected more replies then this :) |

Hey guys,
I am looking for a decent mmorpg with good pve and a bit of pvp. Any good ideas? I already did: lotro, wow, warhammer, everquest 2, allods online, vanguard.
And I want an open world ... not something like guild wars instancing world. |
|
|
those are also the reasons why developers don't do it ... they just don' t have the money for that kind of a finished mmo.
And also microsoft and sony don't like patches. Yes patches do happen but they seriously don't like it. And mmo's get patches alot!! |

Another thing I hate about wow This is an example but a really good one to make my point There was such a big ass fuss about the new skins for the morphs of a druid. I mean wtf that takes like 5 minutes to get that working and blizzard acted like it was a big deal :o m_MySkin = m_MySkins[BEARSKIN2]; Waw :o that took me a long time to program :o |

Originally posted by The_Korrigan hmm so basicly you play the game for the content... you do realise there are singleplayer games with 1000 times better content then wow, right? I mean characters that walk from point a to b and blabber some dumbass text aint content. And scenery, might as wel go look at some paintings in paris if you love pictures that much. |
|
Originally posted by Torik :o i guess your not a diablo fan Well thats a piety, thats the only reason I would wanna play any game. If you own in a fps do you wanna play with noobs? Seems kinda boring. What i mean by that is there is no difference between hardcore and casual players anymore. No matter what kind of raid you are in there are always gonna be people in your raid that don't understand how to play a game. Sorry but I don't need that kind of torment. That is the whole point of the epics. You can see at the look of the character if he is hardcore or not. I don't care for the stats. I care for the difference between casual and hardcore players.
On a side note ... back then you had a goal. Your goal was getting in mc, the dragon dungeon, ahn qiraj, etc. You needed to grind fire res gear, frost gear, pots, etc. Just to be able to get in. Now there is no goal anymore, people just wonder like zombies in dalaran just waiting for new content. Grinding the rep for the enchantments is not even worth doing anymore. And grinding for the emblems ... thats just bulshit. Just ask a friend to join a raid and bam you got some gear. |
|
Originally posted by The_Korrigan I won't even bother doing it 25 man raid cause i can do it in 10 man raid. I can enjoy the same content as you. And the gear upgrade aint that big of a difference. So whats the point? the achievement? I will give you that point that it was a design flaw ... but the solution they came up with sux. I don't mind the 25 man raids, but they should have made the raids 2-3 times harder then they were with 40 men (skill based not geared based). The thing is you have different kinds of items. common, uncommon, rare, epic and legendary. The cool thing about this is so people shouldn't be able to get epic so easily cause then it defeats the point of having those types. I was thrilled pre tbc to actually have an epic on me. Now well who cares if it is epic or not? everyone has tons of epics. So whats the point. The idea of epic stuff is so that only hardcore people would be able to get that. And not some moron that doesn't even understand what sapping means. So whats even the point of playing those dungeons. The thrill is gone. |
|
|
Wow was great at pre tbc: risk vs reward was awesome. If you had an epic than you just ruled because it was freaking hard to get an epic. Now they just throw it at your face. Risk vs reward is just so out of balance now.
You have to ask yourself this. Imagine you are sitting infront of a slot machine. And you have been playing for a really long while and then suddenly you win! Imagine how that feels!
Now try playing a slot machine where you always win. You'll be rich but it doesn't give you the rush. That's the feeling that makes you want to play more.
And one more thing, a few days ago I was doing a dungeon. And i asked a rogue to sap a specific mob. He didn't know what sap was:o I think thats says it all. Lets all just be lazy and aoe the shit out of everything... where the fuck is the fun in that. |
