Quote: "there has yet to be an MMO where you gain XP for dancing"
Wow, you definitely know your stuff, how about actually doing some research before saying crap like this. Star Wars Galaxies granted XP for Dancing (on release) and I believe it still does if you choose the Dancer profession. It's crap like this that really makes me think that the people who write these articles don't know anything about gamers or most games. They play one or two MMORPGs and they think they know them all. So yeah, how about doing some research and fact finding before making finite statements such as the one quoted above. |

Originally posted by Healforfood Who cares? Honestly, when I look at the screen shots or the videos of WAR I don't ponder who the heck made it. If it's good it doesn't matter if Mythic made a deal with the devil to get it to the customers in a timely fashion. I'm not shopping for an MMO that was completely done "in house". If thats what you are shopping for then so be it, don't assume that it matters to the rest of us. And in your earlier post you said a good comparison for AoC and WAR would be your neighbor building a car from scratch compared to you just going and buying a brand new one. Well there are a few flaws in that comparison. First, the more accurate comparison would be you wanting a car, and either waiting 5 years for someone to build it from scratch all on their own, or waiting one year for a company to provide you with a car filled with parts made all over the world and not just "in house". Which are you going to wait for? Which are you going to pay for? Secondly, how many people care about whether or not the computer game they are playing was completely built "in house"? In this market (gaming/MMO) if you hype up a game and then take too long to produce it, you fail. You either run out of hype and lose potential customers, or you take too long to produce code and you lose money too quickly by having to pay developers to work on a game that you thought would already be making you money. AoC is not helping their case by keeping everything to themselves. EA Mythic is doing an awesome job keeping the hype up. Every month there is a newsletter with new screen shots, videos, zone information, interview details, beta giveaways and more. They are setting an example of how to keep the community hyped about your game and keep them interested and wanting more. |

Hey, I'll resubscribe if they revert the game back to how it was 6 months after release. Oh, not going to do that? Well then you wont get my money again.

There are also certain advantages that top teams utilize in various games (take Counterstrike for example). If you are in a guild/clan match and your team is not utilizing some sort of teamspeak or vent setup, you are done. Because it's quicker to talk than it is to type and you can talk and shoot at the same time. Same goes for PVP in MMORPGs. I ran with a guild in WoW doing battlegrounds that had a vent server setup and their communication was awesome. Their gear was not better than their opponents, but they were smart and knew how to play their characters well and used coordination through communication. That is an important element. Then a few months after doing that the opponents began having crazy gear and the PVP became unbalanced because gear played such an important role. |

Originally posted by thetank Wow, you just described the pvp system of a few games, don't go thinking GW is special because of that. And your post is riddled with spelling errors, which you probably should have fixed before calling someone's post "one of the most stupid things" you have EVER read on these forums. I'm looking forward to WAR because they are working on implementing a point system for their group pvp instances. The point system will balance both sides (if side A has a bunch of elite gear and side B has so/so gear, it'll put something like 3 members of side A versus 5 members of side B to balance). Then the true skill/luck kicks in because gear advantages will be balanced with number advantage. It will be interesting to see how it works out. |

Nice idea, however, the Book of Grudges is a sacred dwarf artifact that is usually kept by the Dwarf King in Karaz-A-Karak.
If you wanted to RP the grudge process you could state that your guild/clan leader is under orders from the Dwarf King to take care of specific grudges or something. Also, dwarfs *rarely* cross out a grudge from the book. They like holding grudges and always like being reminded who did them wrong in the past. Also if you are dealing with the book of grudges, you might want to restrict high elves from joining your guild/clan since dwarfs would never allow high elves near that book. Dwarfs dont trust elves, they blame them for many wars and losses. Of course this is all from Warhammer lore that I've read and since the game is a RP game you can do whatever you want, I'm just pointing out some specifics about dwarf lore :) I plan to play a Dwarf, because I really enjoyed them in the table top game. And their lore is fun. |

keeping an eye on this game but..
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 4/12/07 9:12:10 AM
I believe the game is in a secret closed beta right now.
As for the hype... I think this game will live up to it. What I enjoy about the hype with this game is that it isnt just fans contributing to the hype. There are plenty of people working on the project that *LOVE* Warhammer and I feel they are putting a lot of effort into making this game kick butt. The hype will continue to grow as the game enters an open beta and approaches a release. I am already enjoying the screenshots (heck even some of the screens from the alpha are better looking than some games released). The *look* and *feel* of Warhammer seems to be being captured properly and that is one major thing the fans want to see. I for one am looking forward to a fun fantasy-based MMO that has great lore and is focused on PvP/RvR. These guys have it right. No game that doesnt include a pvp/rvr type zone at the beginning of the game can say it is focused on pvp. WAR will be. |

Another - Which Class Are You Going to Play? - Order
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 4/12/07 5:58:03 AM
I'm totally digging the dwarf hammerer. When I read through my old Warhammer Armies books (mainly the dwarf army one) the hammerers are explained to be the elite guards of the dwarf king. They are probably going to be a fun melee DPS class with their light to medium armor and crazy two-handed hammers.
You best be watching out for me in the pvp/RvR zones, because I surely can find an entry in the Book of Grudges that shows you in a bad light! PS - It's not a surprise to see the warpriest and the witch hunter as the top choices so far, I figure the masses will be drawn to those. |

Originally posted by ricefarmer The skill of MMORPGs (in a pvp/RvR sense) is knowing what to do in specific situations. Not just aim for the head and fire my weapon and thats all i do. Anyone can criticize just about any game and say it doesnt take "skill". I play many FPS games (CS, Gears of War,etc) and RPGs and neither requires great skill. FPS games just require fast twitch, which I am good at but i dont classify that as "skill". Some games have pvp/RvR that reall require you to think out your actions. If you see the enemy cast something you need to respond or you may be doomed, and the response might even be something like getting out of range. It's funny you say "real" combat, but yet i have not seen an MMO strap someone into armor and give them a USB sword/axe/whatever and do virtual combat, not even games like Age of Conan could be considered near "real". WAR isnt supposed to be a FPS. If you want the feel of an RPG yet the twitch-based "skill" that FPS games require, go play some Oblivion or something. |

I voted for Chaos (which I'm assuming you meant Destruction).
My first intention is to play an Orc Choppa but I am drawn to the Dwarves as well, and who knows what the elves may have so I'm not sure yet. A warpriest would be fun too, im torn! |

I've got an xbox 360 and personally, I would never play an MMO on it. Heck I barely play any games on it, I really only use it as a media center extender.
I'm not saying others wont play on their xbox 360's if the game does get ported to it after release. I just prefer the feel of my WASD configuration on my keyboard on my gaming machine. |

WoW forums being overun by WARHAMMER posts
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 3/27/07 5:37:28 AM
Originally posted by DuraheLL Exactly. Warhammer has more LORE than almost any other game out there (I said almost..). Warhammer existed before Warcraft did anyway. Besides, it doesnt surprise me that a WoW fanatics hasnt heard of Warhammer. You need to log off WoW in order to learn about anything outside of the WoW universe. People who play WoW long enough forget how to do things, like: Player 1: "How do we get children?" Player 2: "I dunno, are they on the auction house?" Player 3: "You both are idiots, they are BoP." Player 1: "Epic?" Player 2: "Which instance they drop?" ... |

Anyone heard of any game breaking features?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 3/27/07 5:28:27 AM
Originally posted by FreddyNoNose Well as it has already been said, we won't really hear anything "bad" until a more biased player base is beta testing the game. Right now the devs and a select few are the only ones testing it and they are under NDA as well as the fact that they arent going to come post negative feedback about their own game. Personally I think the "bad" things we will hear from folks will all be personal opinion stuff, like "The graphics look too much like Warhammer miniatures" or "Why is the interface similar to WoW's interface?" or "Collision detection pisses me off because i cant get to the caster right away i have to kill the tanks, whaaaa" The feedback I am looking forward to hearing about is: - gameplay (balanced? creative? end game?) - RvR/PvP (is the game truly focused on these?) - items vs skill (will the game favor item unbalance versus skill?) - feel (does it feel like warhammer fantasy?) |

I tend to favor technology advancements but I saw this and I thought... wtf? Seriously. This is great for people who can not afford a computer to play games but have a cell phone, but for anyone else who has a computer, play the games on that. I'm just not a big fan of cramming too many functions onto or into a device. Let the cell phone be a cell phone. I don't want my cell phone to be my gaming device and my digital camera and my <insert more functions that other device do better>. Thats just me though. |

Originally posted by amorone There is some truth in what you say, however not all of us are "uneducated" and "uniformed". What a lot of us actually do is regurgitate what we've read from the developers or seen in the videos or head on the podcasts. Now if what we hear/read/see is incorrect then sure we are telling lies. However, we are making the assumption that the information being provided to us is mostly accurate and because of that assumption we can feel somewhat comfortable passing that information along. Now when someone is just speculating, thats a different story. But thats what these forums are for, speculate on what could happen with the game, speculate on how cool this would be if they implemented feature X or included race Y in an expansion etc. If all you want to read is Official stuff that stays on topic and doesn't contain some form of speculation, I'd suggest you only read the newsletter and the official website. I mean, really if it is tiresome for you, why even post about it? |

Level system, A grind from start to End?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 3/22/07 6:30:15 AM
Originally posted by killerwig Agreed. WAR is taking steps to make pvp and pve more fun than in previous games. I think the public quest system and the PvP zones even at the first starting areas are great ideas and that WAR will be very popular once all the critics give it a chance. I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing more about the game every day just hoping a dev posts a video about some new aspect of the game they are working on. |

General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 3/22/07 5:12:38 AM
Originally posted by anubisss True, however I played an Orc/Goblin army in Warhammer tabletop and I always carried around a group of night goblins that had a hidden unit in them. The night goblin fanatics. These guys are nasty little night goblins that are chained to a massive metal ball each. They spin around and do a lot of damage. The problem was, you had to roll a random direction die to determine which way they spun (and sometimes this meant running into your own units, and then you had to deal with animosity issues). Anyway, my point is that there were some units that were not visible until they made their play. The night goblin fanatic units were hidden inside a regular night goblin group (you chose before hand which group had the fanatics and you did not tell your opponent. Once an enemy unit got near your night goblins they busted out their hidden fanatic and pushed him forward towards the enemy. I agree though, no unit (without magic items or spells) is invisible in warhammer fantasy. |

Capital city taking...Hype, or actually promising?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 3/22/07 5:02:37 AM
Originally posted by Linkman214 They explained it a little in one of the videos about how RvR works. Basically you will be able to "hold" enemy cities for a specific amount of time and then the RvR zones will reset. (Otherwise it would be unfair especially if one race or one alliance was way more populated than the opposing force). You wont be able to attack the capital until you have taken over some of the other RvR zones so it wont be like a swift surprise attack on the major cities without first attacking the smaller zones. I think this also acts as an alarm system, to notify players that their cities could be in danger. I think it has great potential. |
