seriously why are u asking for help on  a MMORPG.COM forum about a DELL website? They have customer support for that, and those guys are super helpful when its a potential buyer. Contact customer support, that's what they r there for, and don't tell me their CS sucks when ur a potential buyer because I just spoke with them recently concerning a laptop and they helped me in under 10 minutes and made 3 followup calls to me to make sure I was satisfied and to update me on my order up until the day it arrived.

heh I used to go to watch the late late night showings of that show in the Village, NYC. Not sure if it would make a great mmo though.

its funny how  people keep naming games on PC that look FAR superior than his whole tirade on console games, yet he chose to ignore them all.

FACT: People can tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps

FACT: This generation of consoles is the first to fall FAR below the performance of the state of computers at the moment

FACT: Developers themselves are disgusted with the constraints Xbox One has put on them and are forced to downscale their games in order to meet the required 30fps, and even that falls short

Anyone who says otherwise at this point without using Google.com is just being a troll. Because the proof is in abundance ALL OVER THE INTERNET by ACTUAL REPORTS from third parties without any bias.

You decided to post multiple times in your own topic in order to keep pushing the topic to the top of the list. if you continue, u will be reported.

Edit: seriously did he just say there are no PC exclusives? I'm done.Troll report in full effect.

What a great time for arpgs!

First Divinity:OS, Wasteland 2, and now PoE.

Funny, all 3 projects I backed came to fruition and then some!

do u know the difference between publishers & developers? Seems like u don't.

My understanding is that anything over 30 FPS cannot bee seen by the naked eye, therefore 4x the resolution allows the game to be more beautiful and detailed (significantly) as long as the FPS never drops below 30.

Wouldn't you want to have 4x the resolution instead of 200 FPS that looks the same as 30FPS?

The human eye does not see in frames per second.

Wow..not too bright there.

The human eye can see the difference in smoothness on any game running below 30 FPS. Once you are over that threshold, it appears the same regardless of how man more frames per second are rendered.

True human eye can see much after 30fps, but at higher fps you have much more leeway for frame stuttering. Also figures are for maximum fps, hence the higher the numbers the better its avg fps are. And average mumbers that you want to see.

Humans can see beyond 30 fps, stop spreading lies. Multiple organizations have proved this including the Unites States Airforce.

STOP SPREADING LIES

Additionally theres alot of misinformation on unity, so I'm just going to link this here to show you guys some games that have been developed using unity.

http://unity3d.com/showcase/gallery

Go to the bottom, click featured games made in unity.

Wow ... I've heard of only one of those games (edit: 2). Some look cool though. Looks like a great platform for indie development. Tempted to try Ori though someday.

My only concern is if it is a wise choice for a mass pvp mmo game.

Unfortunately it is not. It's not a real event based engine written in C++ like UDK. It's good for 2/2.5D games with limited size. It's good for 3D games with limited areas/size. It's not able to cope with the load of full open world MMO requirements.

Don't get me wrong, Unity has it's place and Ori is a good example what you can do with it. But AAA MMO quality is not something it can deliver, it's about as good as Hero engine in that respect and that one is completely unusable for anything serious or without a total re-write lie SWTOR did.

Wait what? Unity uses the same c# delegate event system everywhere else in the world that other compilers use for c# and at its base is written in c++ in which you can utilize the same systems available in Unreal 4.

I work on both engines. I've written grid-based turn-based systems in both engines using c++ or c# using the SAME delegate system I wrote from scratch in both engines.

If you want to actually talk about differences and not just make up some lies, you can say how an engine like Unreal 4 can do realtime adjustments to navmesh objects and have navmesh agents respond appropriately, something that is extremely hard to do in Unity 5 without rewriting the engine components in C++.

Why are you all impressed about unity? If you compare Unity/Flash/Java with language like C++ those 3 are just TERRIBLE performance wise. Sure they allow devs to code faster, allows to game to run on multiple platforms and so on.. All of those are just things that bring benefit only for the DEVELOPER/PUBLISHER not for players.

Unity is written in c++

I understand you just know nothing about programming, it's ok. Unity is horrible performance-wise when people do not know how to program. Which unfortunately happens a lot nowadays since these engines are catered more towards content creators than programmers. Yet a good coder can make magic with Unity.

No you didn't get heard by Funcom.

Matter of fact, they will never hear about your experience because all you managed to do was berate some poor customer rep who is probably only doing that job that to make ends meet. Customer reps deal with horrible people day in & day out, and all you did was add more of a burden to their job.

If you wanted to actually be heard you would've constructed a well versed article on the shortcomings of AOC over the years. Submitted this article to one of the many gamer sites, and published it online for the world to read. Then your years of experience in AOC and wisdom could've been read by the world, you could've organized a small community who felt the same way you did, and just maybe then Funcom would've heard your message.

Instead you decided to take out your frustration and anger on some poor individual to make yourself feel better. So in that regards, congrats. I hope you feel better about yourself by treating others like crap. You're part of the problem, not the solution.

LOL, you have to ask yourself this simple question... how is shutting down a forum going to actually impact the corporate structure?  Just look at this site... if they got rid of 100 sub forums, do they recoup any financial losses?  Forums cost little to nothing in the grand scheme of things.  I sincerely doubt they are heavily moderating them to begin with.  Sound more like, this game isn't ready for prime time any time soon so we're just going to shut it down until there is a game to discuss.

Because the forums are under SOE, and belong to Sony Entertainment. Seriously you couldn't figure that out yourself? You do realize companies consider domains as assets, and that IS PART of a corporate restructure.

All this makes me think is, "yes, no more 2.5d platforming indie titles."

Unreal is a great engine, devs can actually start working on quality next gen titles, and knock it off with the child of light, snes style nonsense.

You will see even more 2.5d platformers and side-scrollers than ever before. Unreal 4 will only make sure of that.

It takes big teams and big skills to generate quality next gen models/animations/shaders. Why do you think Unity went from a predominantly 3d engine to accomodating 2d during its Unity 4.2 cycle? Because its faster to generate/draw up/ and prototype no matter how badly Unity wanted to throw 3d into the mainstream indie scene.

So more Child of Light and more 2D stylizied games are coming our way, for better or worse. Unfortunately it will be for the worse since most people will forgo actually learning to code and stick to general assets and pre-generated framework code.

It's bad only to "Generation Me" self-entitled players who do not want to work for ANYTHING and want everything handed to them the minute they log into a game.

I wouldn't pay much attention to the whiners.

Unity is not the problem, it's people who lack the skills to get their shaders right and coding correct.

That being said, Unreal 4 is a powerhouse and its abilities outweigh Unity Pro by a short distance. Real time nav mesh generation/placement, easy editor-style shader programming, more affordable, and C++. The fulle code for Unreal 4 is available on request.

So you're playing the Asian version of Diablo 3 from thebU.S. I'm confused now.
RIP Coldfusion. This is one of the few sites I know still running under Coldfusion.  CFM was under-rated.

protection? Kickstarter is not an investment. it gives you a chance to risk some amount of your money, by trusting it to some others so what you want turn into reality.

Investment: the action or process of investing money for profit or material result.

Hence: Harry invested in a Kickstarter project in hopes of having the game HE wants to play made. He invested $20 into Divinity: Original Sin by Larian Studios. In return he was rewarded with the ability to purchase the game and mod tools promised by the devs when they reached their goal. He invested in hopes to get a ROI, return on investment. In his case the return is the abiltiy to purchase the game HE wants to play, not the game EA wants him to play. According to EVERY economic professor I know, that is by definition an investment of a strict non-financial nature.

You can try to twist the word all you want. Fact is fact. You are never garunteed an expected outcome. That's why it's called "investing" and not "buying"

As per dictionary definition. Seems like some of you do not even know what the definition is, how are you expected to make any form of logical debate? LOL

Actually it doesnt work that way, you donate 20$ (you dont purchase anything, you just give them money no strings attached) and as a thank you you get a copy of the game (if its ever made) ;)

For all intents and purposes its a donation :)

problem arises when people start considering it investement. It clearly says donation and not investement with all the differences and similarities there are between the two.

No. Problem arises when people aren't smart enough to determine that an investment in NO WAY GARUNTEES the desired expectation. That's the difference between "investing" and "buying"

For example, a man invested in an OTC stock in a public company. The company decided it did NOT want to make their product and filed for ch11 bankruptcy. All investors lost their money. Did that man "donate" money? No, he invested it, and he loss. That's an actual example. Ask any stock trader about the OTC markets.

What's the difference? English isn't even my first language and even I can figure it out. I know a whole team of lawyers that wish you people served for jury duty since u do not know the difference between a gift and an investment, lol. PLEASE PLEASE sign up for jury duty in the NYC area.

Kickstarter can call it a donation, a gift, a pledge, a hail mary, whatever. According to their LEGAL FILINGS they are sanctioned in the U.S as a micro-investment company. Nothing any of you can say will change that. And according to law Kickstarter has to be VERY careful about their wording, which is why in their FAQ they state it as a "pledge" because the word, according to law, still has a contractual agreement tied to it.

Which leads me to the most important point of this topic. I agree with the OP's title, Kickstarter should do more to protect its customers who've pledged.

You people should be more upset at pre-orders and DLC. Now that is a grey-area crime and yet people still keep pre-ordering broken games.

Why is pre-order a different & worse breed? Because a pre-order is not an investment, it is a contractual agreement for purchase. And most times you are definitely NOT getting what you purchased. That's why the U.S had to create the lemon law to protect car buyers. Hopefully we can get a similar law for videogames.

Yet when you read the definition of donate it fits as well...

To fund or contribute...

Uhm no.

Donation: is a gift given by physical or legal persons, typically for charitable purposes and/or to benefit a cause.

Gift: or a present is an item given to someone without the expectation of payment.

Simply because I enjoy proving people wrong. Enjoy :)

I agree with the Op's title. Kickstarter does very little to protect it's investors. And it doesn't have to. That's how these investments work. No one protects people when they lose all their money in the stock markets due to bad decisions. That's the weay the world works boys & girls.

Welcome to the age of digital distribution.

The same thing has been said about music, pdf books, and movies.

"OMG I bought  OTC stock in a company that promised to release a miracle drug in the U.S., then they went bankrupt and I lost all my money I invested. OH NOOO WHY DOESN'T THE GOVERNMENT DO SOMETHING!!!!"

It happens, it's called rick versus reward. It's legal. So if it happens in actual markets for public companies, then guess what? It can happen in Kickstarter.

Like I used to tell all new day traders: DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Due Diligence. In other words as it applies to Kickstarter, only back projects with substantial concepts, prototypes, & personnel.
