it isn't too much to ask to have end game solo dungeons or have the choice to group with a few friends to get end game gear

I agree there as to be more options at end game besides raiding and pvp. I don't mind pvping but for me I would rather go back to work in a state prison an be surrounded by lifers than to have to tolerate an hour listening to your average raider.

For me bad community members are any who spam trade or general channels for cyber sex or other profanities. Generally rude armchair warriors get on my nerves and anyone who has names like Ipwnurmom and other offenses.

I really don't have an issue with soloers or small groups having access to raid level gear. In WoW instance why not give 5 man or solo versions of all raid content but just have it drop TOC equivalent gear and tokens to get the raid level gear. So what i raider might get in a couple runs would take the other paths a few weeks to acquire. That way way everyone can see the content and not be plagued by raiders.

Okay, not my point if your not realy a female and it comes in to question why can you not just say "No i am not" .... instead of saying you are a female in RL? is there a point in lying when the question is directly asked about your RL Sex not your ingame sex if someone asked are you female say "Yes i am a female night elf" and if the question was "What are you male or female in RL" say "I dont want to anwser" or "I am male" there is no good reason to lie to people on a video game is the question was out of RP then the reply can be out of RP

People lie. Get used to the fact that most people are little more than oxygen thieves and parasites to the rest of us and will lie and kill you if it would be a net gain for them.

Being good at 40 man raids doesn't make you special. Face the facts some people have jobs or families or basically have no use for raiding. Does not make them bad players. With my experiences in warcraft it is fair to say I will never raid again. Sure the raids were successful but it was the worst time I had ever spent in the game it reminded me of working in a prison again. You know you go clock in to do your job and spend the next few hours with people who you really just don't want to be around.

I like the free roaming of Oblivion and fallout 3 but the for a story driven rpg Dragon Age was great. Right up there with the Baldur's Gates, NWN, Kotor and ME but far above NWN2.

For me after buying Dragon Age I am even more likely to preorder TOR.

Elikal some of what you don't like are some of my favorite parts. Yes a warden must be sacrificed in the end but despite their methods it just makes the point that at times there are things and events greater than ourselves. Granted there were some other options I would have loved to have seen but in the end the dark and gritty storyline was more realistic than some of the fluff put forth in movies lately.

I love the game. Already going through it a second time. The story is good and I enjoy the party dynamics. I don't recall ever having to pause the game during combat I just made good use of the tactics slots. All in all a very nice game brings back memories of baldur's gate.

I loved the dark world. The knights in the not so shining armor heroes. Watching Morigan and Leilanda get jealous over me. Alistar whining to Wynne about my relationship with Morigan. Had to put Zev in his place when he made a pass at me and just listening  to bickering and little jabs they toss at each other as you travel depending on party make up. Already played through as human warrior and now I am going through as a mage and a rogue. Have no issue with the world it should be a dark place there is a blight happening.  Glad I bought the game.

Think DAO is linear?  It may say more about you than it says about the game.

Yes, you have a handful of origin stories that converge at Ostragar.  However, those origin stories give you context for:

gender (doesn't make a difference in stats/abilities, but does make a difference in relationships and cultural fit)
race (this is a racist society - AND the races have prejudices of class [human],  caste [dwarf] or free/subjugated status [elves])
profession - mages are considered a necessary evil which may have recently become enough of a liability to be eradicated

By the time you reach Ostragar, as anyone who's rerolled will know, dialogue and reactions will change from the NPCs.  You may arrive in Ostagar with one or two party members.  You will hit the next map location choice with three or four (or two if you make some choices I suspect few will, but could be totally valid within the cultural framework given).

Shortly after you leave the coda to Ostragar, you run through a small town where you can pick up another two potential party members.  Party size is max 4.  So you may have to choose to leave out up to TWO characters from your party going forward, each of which has not only skills but information and existing *relationships* with important NPCs going forward.

If you think the story is linear, you're treating this like Diablo.  It's NOT Diablo.  It's *actually* that rare beast, the true RPG.  *Real* choices involving real sensitivity to your party members (and your own willingness to pander to what they want to hear) make *real* differences in future interactions with them and with NPCs who relate to them.

So, as you may guess, even though I haven't gotten through a huge percentage of the game play, I've gotten significant replay value from the first perhaps 25-30% of the game.

If you think DAO's linear, it's just a reflection of your own gameplay style.

Couldn't agree more. Already played through as a Human noble warrior and have now started a human noble rogue and human mage while my wife is currently working on her elf rogue.

I have played online games with RL friends for a few years now.

Mythic needs to hire this guy! I will pay money to see DAOC upgraded to the Cry Engine!

I agree give us a new DAoC with these graphics and do something to destroy the botters and I would come running back.

Some of my friends play female toons but I never will. I don't find the ideal of being a woman appealing in the least. But the difference is while I may never do it just like alcohol and tobacco will never be permitted in my home does not mean I don't want you to do it if it floats your boat. Keep it simple I'll respect your right to do it if you respect my right to think your wrong. Everyone wins.

Its China so how is it our concern? We have bigger issues to deal with besides whether or not China allows transgender gaming.  I don't play games as female toons and never will. I am a roleplayer but there is no way in hell any role I would want to play would involve me being the girl. Maybe you can say afer working at a prison for 6 years I didn't see too many people who enjoyed being the girl.

OP does have one point.. even tho his post is more of a flame rant then anything..   WoW will be in trouble soon.. The guild I'm in is a small "NON raiding" guild.. we focus on leveling, dungeons and just having fun..  However it looks like we are at the end.. We despise any form of raiding due to all the drama it causes.. More and more of the added content and patches focus on pushing people into raiding 10/25 then anything else..

Cataclysm will be the make or break expansion.. NEW races won't keep us playing WoW.. new class/combo's won't do it either.. Adding guild raiding content won't either... What does that leave left for non raiding casual guilds?  It looks like virtually NOTHING.. 90% of our guild barely logs on anymore because we are bored to death with the current game..   So the OP does have a point tho.. WoW will start sliding soon.. We are already shopping and pondering where to go in 2010 to play as a group of friends, because Cataclysm doesn't look like out answer..

WoW is and was a success NOT because of raiding, but because it was very casual friendly, however that has changed for end game classes.. If end game raiding is WoW's new focus to keep people playing..  We won't be staying, as I'm sure millions of others won't either..  Good luck when you get tired of raiding..

Same here my guild does not raid. Been playing the game since release and after trying raiding during Vanilla WoW and TBC I decided those who raid were clearing not people I could tolerate. The game is a hobby not a second job and if one more miserable oxygen thief tells me to lock my kids in my room so i can raid I just might snap. Blizzard should just make 5 man versions of all raid content and lower the loot table. Those of us who don't raid don't have an inferiority complex and have no need to worry about our epeens. I don't care if they keep adding raids but if they want to keep older players they need to give us more access to the content. Leave the raiding to those with more time than responsibilities. For the raiders don't bother saying you have lots of RL responsibilities and just use time management as you are wasting your breath. If you have a job and kids and raid 4 nights a week then you are neglecting one or the other.

I solo and do 5 man stuff in WoW but I refuse to raid. I'm sure there has to be some decent people who raid but from my experience they have some serious issues and i just hope they are sterile. For instance I was asked to do a Naxx run and I said i can't my kids are up so i am just doing my Argent Tourney dailies. I was told to just lock my kids in their rooms and get my priorities straight. that was the final nail for me. I have no use for the raiding community in wow  and I hope  blizzard offers 5 man versions of all raid dungeons just so people with some sense of what it means to have a life outside of the game can see all the content I don't even give a crap if the decrease the loot in the 5 man version. Some of us don't need to flex our epeen as much.

Maybe quest and group drops. Lets hope crafting is not useless. I can live without the raids lets leave that group with WoW. Not sure which group I find more distasteful hardcore raiders or druggies.

I liked what DAoC had done with their items.  None was bound to you and you'd be able to give it all away to anybody you choose.  The kicker was that a newbie could equip the highest level items but they'd degrade at an astronomical rate when compared with items his level.  If the difference between item level and player level was great enough you might get maybe 5 minutes of use out of a weapon and it would be damaged to the point that it gave no bonuses and did pathetic damage.  Also your items had a sort of "hit point" for repair.  Every time you repair the item these "hit point" would go down.  Once they reached about 70% the item was more or less useless because once again it would stop providing any kind of bonuses.  Assuming you're using items that are level appropriate to you, you could fight for days and not have to repair them.  Since repairs were few and far between at that point your item would last more then enough for you to outlevel it and get newer drops or in most cases if you had the money for it crafted items.

In short, I think the "soul" binding is something that only fits games like WoW where you are measured by the gear you wear.  Any other games should work on abolishing this mechanic... if you ask me.

Couldn't agree more. DAoC other than botters was easily one of the best mmos ever made.
