Just a question.... would you WANT this to succeed?
General Discussion « Age of Conan 8/07/08 11:28:49 PM
I dont want to see Funcom die. I think it would be super if they made their game work after it all blows over. I am not a fangirl, I never bought the game, but at this point it would be amazingly hard to overcome all the negative press from their bad release, so I kind of feel sorry for them. Besides I kind of want them to put up a general free trial so i can download and play with the character creation screen. (my favorite part of any game) |

Don't worry about it, kid. After a while you will become jaded and bored like the rest of us. |

I feel it too. I never did play U.O. or EQ, but I played pre-cu SWG and it was my first MMO. I had so much fun, but I lost interest after the C.U. and started playing EQ2 which was fun as well. I played that for 2 or 3 years then left for Vanguard but it just didn't grab me. Since then i have played Tabula Rasa, LOTRO, Eve, and POTBS and I just can't recapture the magic.
I couldn't say really what it is, but I have MMO ennui. No matter what I try I just think - meh. So i have preordered Warhammer, and I hope that RvR (something i have never tried) will be refreshing. I really love the idea of MMOs and virtual worlds, but I find everything on the market now mortifyingly dull. I really WANT to play something (really!) and there is nothing worth playing. Perhaps it is time for putting my MMO career to death and finding another source of entertainment, and perhaps, I too, am too old for MMOs.

Player Housing, Why Isn't There More Of It!?!?!?!?!?!
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/04/08 10:14:12 PM
What can you do?? How about set up a personal store with vendors and merchandise cleverly arranged so people will buy it from you and you can make ingame currency? (instead of a worldwide AH) How about your house is a cantina where others can come watch you perform and heal them? How about your house being instrumental in guild related functions because you are the mayor of a player city and you're in charge of elections, guild recruitment terminals, and getting crafting stations set up there for your guildmates to use? How about using your house to make RP social events come alive? Fancy bank, pshaw! And these examples are from ONE game. ONE game that actually made houses not just pretty, but practical. Honestly I will play games with no player housing or minimal housing but they are nowhere near as enjoyable. |

dare to be DIFFERENT.
why should we pay to play your imitation of another game? Go with your original vision. Make it unique. |

Tabula Rasa is a pretty nifty little game. You log in, shoot monsters that are beamead down from dropships, shoot monsters that are attacking your Control Point, or shoot monsters that are occupying the control point you want. Oh, did I mention there's a lot of monster shooting in this game? TR is actually kind of fun. It is very fast paced and there's quite a variety of monsters to shoot - little hairy-backed alf-nose lightbenders that distract you with flashing white light while they run for cover... oversized thrax aliens that sick their barking dogs on you... enormous stalkers that look like giant mechanical chickens and shoot lazers! Ahem.. well there IS crafting if you can call it that - you break apart all the useful components of looted guns and get "instructions" so you can put them on your gun (or armor). I really like it in a way.. BUT. The community is a bunch of bozos that cant shut up about dorky topics, there isnt much to do unless you feel like breaking up guns to salvage parts, or shooting monsters, and there is just SOMETHING that is missing, not sure what, but I think it is that elusive dash of excitement that hooked me on MMOs of the past. All said - give it a try, you might like it, there are lots of good things about it. Download the 3 day trial and see for yourself if it is abandoned. |

List of all the fun things Funcom has done to AoC

Why are there so many pessimistic gamers?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/17/08 4:20:43 PM
because there are so many mediocre games. |

I gave this game a shot. It is actually pretty cool and different, but not a lot of content. If you want to log in, shoot up a ton of bad looking aliens and log out, this is the game for you. It is very fast paced, very straightforward, and very easy. If you like depth or community dont waste your time, but when i was working a ton of overtime and wanted to sit down and NOT think, I played this. |

My question (which I will be posting in a couple different forums) is this: If you could take the best things from any MMo you have ever played, and add your own ideas to make your dream game, what things would you pick, and why?
I'll go first, here it is in no particular order:
1.) From LOTRO - the beautiful scenic world, the music system perhaps with a few tweaks, and the "pick what clothes you want to show" system is great too. Oh, and of course it has a rich history and Lore, but there aren’t many games with literary geniuses writing the back story.
2.) From SWG (old school) - the housing system
There's nothing like being on an open, remote heath with nothing but you and the critters and thinking - THIS is where I want my house/city/guildhall. There would be an added mechanic that keeps ghost towns from being a problem, and a better method of arranging furniture, the "everything has a graphic and can be put in a house" concept is super too. I love that I could loot a random [broken data pad] which is vendor trash, and if I liked the graphic, I could set it on my shelf.
- cantinas or other social aspects of the game that are crucial to the game play. I don’t care how many cool things you stick in your town, if adventurers don’t NEED to do it, they won’t, and having it adds so much to the immersion
- crafting resources with stats and item decay to give crafters a constant stream of customers in their Mom and Pop player created shopping malls and NO central auction hall.
3.) From Vanguard - (yes, believe it or not!) Flying mounts, player boats, and the ability to turn into a phoenix when I want. I really like the "go anywhere you want" concept.
4.) From EQ2 - collection quests - a mini-game I admit, but it is loads of fun!
- swimming underwater - the first time I set eyes on Everfrost I thought it was the coolest zone ever.. err... literally too I guess. Big whales you could swim up to, underwater treasure hunts, shipwrecks, I also liked EQ2 mermaids and evil nipping fish, and "getting better at swimming"
- languages - it was very cool to speak in a language you could only get by completing an obscure quest and see how many of your guild mates could understand you.
- illusion spells - become a gnome! or a lion! or a foot tall version of yourself that runs very quickly! hahaha how fun!
- holiday quests - I loved doing the special seasonal things they had going on like visiting the haunted house, or helping the tiny Frostfell elves at Christmas.
5.) From POTBS - when I tried their beta I liked how many clothes you could pick as your starter clothes, and all the colors and choices... I didn’t get much farther than that in the game, but that part was cool.
6.) From Tabula Rasa - no WoW interface, control points are cool. I also like deconstructing things for crafting, visiting a trainer NPC once in a while, and making clone alts, although that aspect may need to stay unique to that game.
7.) Lots of character customization, # of races doesn't matter, but I'd like a lot more than just scaled size, 5 hairdos, and 3 faces, and the same class = same abilities thing.
8.) No levels.
9.) Fun and intuitive, but not spoon-fed and on rails. Challenging and complex, but no frustrating time sinks that give the illusion of difficulty.
10.) Toggles for first and third person view, chat bubbles, etc. Just because you don’t want them doesn’t mean someone else doesn’t.

So...I'm liking it, but this is like the least polished "major" MMO on the market right now.
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 6/22/08 3:05:38 PM
I played VG from beta until right before the server merge. I had high hopes for the game, but it just had a dead feel and that's why I left. I am toying with the idea of signing back up or at least giving it another try since there is not much else on the market that sparks my interest. Has anything changed other than performance?
thanks Ketrine |

I think I will prefer POTBS. I recently tried EVE's 14 day trial. It was ok, it seemed like it had a huge world, lots of options etc. but I really miss seeing my character instead of a spaceship.
Still waiting for a game like Pre CU SWG... |
