We are very much looking forward to launch tomorrow morning and Sanctuary will be there to kick things off!  Exploring a new game for the first time with a terrific group of players is one of the best experiences you can have in an mmo.   If a laid back,  semi-casual experience is what you are looking for, now is the perfect time to join.

We have had about 20 new recruits join us for launch and there will be a lot of new faces for everyone to meet.  We are a friendly, welcoming bunch – don’t be shy, apply!

Just wanted to welcome all of the newcomers to our little band — the last beta event was a lot of fun!   If anyone is looking for a laid back group of gamers to play with, we are a very welcoming group and would love  some fresh faces to launch ESO together.

Hi all,

Just wanted to put this out there for those looking to play with a solid, mature and good natured team. Drama instigators need not apply! We are currently gearing up for the launch of ESO (Ebonheart Pact) and recruiting for active players of all classes.

We a smaller sized, laid back and welcoming guild that has been around since 2008 in Warhammer and has most recently played GW2 together. To learn more and apply please visit

We are now created on the Jade Quarry Server along with our sister/alliance guild.
Sanctuary has chosen Jade Quarry as our server for launch.   We are still recruiting laid back and mature players for our community.  If you are interested please check out for more information.

Hi all,

Just wanted to put this out there for those looking to play with a solid, mature and good nature team. Drama instigators need not apply! We are currently gearing up for the launch of GW2 and recruiting for active players of all classes.

To learn more and apply please visit our recently updated website...

Sanctuary is a group of like-minded members who play various online games together.  We were originally established in Warhammer Online on the Azazel server on September 14th, 2008.  Now our focus is Guild Wars 2 and we are gearing up to play come its release in August 2012 on the Jade Quarry server.  While most of our members  are  based in the Americas, we welcome anyone who feels that they will fit-in with our personality.

Why is the guild named Sanctuary?

As our name implies, Sanctuary the guild was created to be a safe haven, a hide away where one can play video game the way they like it, for fun. Originally, Sanctuary was like our own little club, a place where we could kick back, escape for a few hours and have a blast in good company. However, as we began interacting with other guilds, we found that they did not necessarily operate with a similar mindset. All too often, we found that other guilds forced people to play specific specs and placed harsh restrictions on entrance. In these guilds, the guild leader would often be in vent berating their players poor performance, throwing around obscenities and generally treating members like trash. It is because guilds like that exist that Sanctuary must also exist. There needs to be a place where video games are still played for fun. There must be a place where Sanctuary can still be found.

What are your players like?

The members of Sanctuary come from all over the United States and Canada. This gives us a very diverse and colorful group that we take great pride in. We have college students that should probably get off and study for their exams. We have fathers that are just looking for a few hours rest after putting their kids to sleep. Or sometimes the kids play with their parents. Our members are engineers, archaeologists, IT specialists, lab workers, exterminators, cage fighters...the list goes on and on! Our membership encompasses both the young and the old. Once you get to know us, you will soon realize that we have quite the cast of characters; many of whom you will not soon forget.
However, while these differences in our lives enrich our interaction with one another, we are all here for one reason and one reason alone. We are looking for an atmosphere where the players are mature, respectful, helpful and most of all, there to have fun. We take great pride in this atmosphere that we have painstakingly cultivated. As such, you will not find people who are: confrontational, disrespectful to others, willing to put themselves before the betterment of the team or just an all around douche-bag. We are all around good guys and gals and those are the types of people we open our doors to.

What sort of activities does Sanctuary normally participate in?

Sanctuary was founded prior to the launch of Warhammer Online with many of the founding members coming over from various DAoC guilds. As such, we have a great fondness for PvP game play, especially open field combat (WvW). However, the majority of our members also enjoy PvE and run dungeon content on a weekly basis. A few of our members are also very much into crafting and world exploration. Overall, our guild is extremely balanced in our content. This balance fits nicely into our semi-casual playstyle.

You often describe yourselves as semi-casual. What does that mean?

“Semi-Casual” is the phrase we came up with to describe our unique play style. Our members have very busy lives going on outside of the game. Therefore, you will not find us organizing 40 man raids or elite PvP teams that meet every day at X time. Luckily, we have a great alliance for those activities. Instead, we will log on and often pick an activity for that evening (or planned in earlier in the week). We still want to progress through content, but at our own pace. We are not here to just goof off and get nothing done. Taking all this into account, we figured semi-casual defined this best.

Are part of an alliance?

Yes, we are allies with our old friends, Strength in Numbers. This alliance is mutually beneficial and allows our guilds to accomplish things the the two individual guilds could not complete alone.

We are always willing to work with other guilds for victory in WvW. As such, we will expand or join new alliances as we see fit for the betterment of our server.

Do you have any rules or requirements?

Really, our only rule is that we do not tolerate cheaters or people exploiting the game in any way, shape or form. Beyond that, we have no written rules. We do not even have a minimum age requirement. All that we require is that you are mature and respectful (this includes to other members and how you represent yourself to the rest of the server). Finally, it is just common courtesy to show up on time to guild or alliance events you had signed up for before hand.

While not a must, we encourage our members to use vent and our forums. We feel that these help build a strong and lasting community.

One should also note that in order to keep our roster clean, we purge inactive members monthly. If you will be gone longer than a month, please let us know ahead of time.

This wasn't all my good friend!

People too spread out, PVP sieges were nothing more than playing muysical keeps with lag, Public quest with no one around to help you, yellow brick road feel to the game, PVE sucked butt zits....

I need to stop im getting pissed...AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH ( runs with plunger in hand)

I really liked WAR and the only problem i had with it was the lag during sieges.

Has anything been done about this or is it the same as it ever was?

I've had pretty good performance for awhile now but apparently the upcoming patch has massive improvements to performance.  Check out the reviews/videos below:

I've been playing since Beta and the game has improved substantially.  The game certainly isn't for everyone,  but to say they haven't made huge strides in the past year would be a blatant lie.   The game has changed a lot, but its still Warhammer -- and if you have/had fundamental issues with the game design, you will always have those problems.  They are improving/tweaking the game they launched with, not giving it massive overhauls and not making it something it isn't.

What really has changed over the last year?

Personally I don't think the game has improved substantially.  Not that Mythic hasn't tried, because I can see they understand the major issues of the game, but they just have not nailed the solutions yet.   Not for lack of trying, but rather lack of effectiveness.

This thread is about giving the game a second chance, which I do every few months.  Mostly to hang out with real life friends who still play.  Every time though it is the same results from the same issues.

What really has changed over the last year that resolved the big issues holding the game back, because honestly I don't see it.

It still bums me out, because I want to love this game.

I don't know what your "big issues holding the game back" are, because people look for different things. But here are mine....

The biggest gripes for ME that were fixed are:

1) Ward System: Hard to get, and had to wear the gear to get the ward:  Fixed with new System
2) T4 Zone Locks: Was tough to lock a zone with no competition: Pretty easy to lock a zone if you really want to.
3) Performance:  I no longer have to constantly change my settings depending on what I'm doing.

My biggest gripes for ME that are NOT fixed:

1.) Fortress fights are complete crap at the moment. -- I understand this is next on the agenda for an update
2.) The length of time it takes from pushing a zone to killing a king is way too long for me to experience all of it.  Being an east coaster that doesn't stay up all that late means by the time I get to the city I'm already exhausted and staying up for anything past Stage one rarely happens .  -- I doubt this will ever be fixed for me

Are there a bunch of other little things that bother me? Sure, but they aren't big enough for me to overlook the enjoyable parts.

They haven't:

Made huge strides in improving performance.

Made huge strides in improving PvE quality.

Made huge strides in improving end game design.

That's truth.

I have been playing since release.

Well, the truth for me is, I've had major client performance improvements to the point where I never reduce my computers settings under balanced anymore, even in fortress fights.   At one point the game was unplayable for me under certain conditions, now it is. I consider those performance improvements. I'm sure results may vary depending on PC setup as I have a decent rig.

PvE hasn't changed much, aside from an entire new zone and dungeon with Land of the Dead.  You may not like it -- which is fine, I don't do backflips with it either, but its a pretty substantial change that you can't just blow off and pretend it didn't add anything.  I've had some fun times in there but I have no desire to do it on a regular basis, nor have I for any other PvE content for the variety of MMO's I've played.

Improving end game design -- Just off the top of my head they have added zone domination, 2nd ramps in keeps, keep upgrade system,  RvR influence rewards, Token system for end game gear and made major changes to city siege PQ's...

I'll say it again, they are improving and tweaking their core design.  If you have fundamental issues with that design, than those improvements will not hold any weight with you.  I don't care if you like this game or not,  I'm not here to convince you one way or the other, but things have changed quite a bit in the game.   You may not view those changes as positive, but there are others that may.

I was away last week -- thankfully it seems.  I did catch a few hours on Tuesday night with some CTD's, but I played for about 9 hours yesterday and it was solid.  Seems like whatever bug was introduced in 1.3.1 may have been fixed.

I've been playing WAR since beta and have been generally pretty happy with it still . I've been playing MMO's for a long long time - Obviously many people out there feel WAR is the worst game ever, and that's fine.  The games they probably like are ones I would hate - to each his own.   I was just reading a thread of "Will you trust Blizzard again after Wow" and laughed, because you can't please everyone - I know many people who are still in love with that game as well.   The point is, you need to try the game out again for yourself.  Everyone has different opinions on what makes a good game, everyone has a different tolerance to the problems in a game, and most of all, everyone has a different opinion on what is a problem.   There are a lot of games on the market, be thankful of that and find the one that fits you the best.

The 940 & the 945 are essentially the same chip.  The 940 only works in AM2+ motherboards and is a "Black Edition" which tends to be better for overclocking.  The 945 will work in either an AM2+ (DDR2) or AM3 motherboard (DDR3) so its a bit of a wash.  If you already have an AM2+ mobo and DDR2 you could use either.

Its pretty much a wash.    If you want to overclock, go with the 940, If you want to futureproof your CPU to a degree, go with the 945.

Okay, I am dumping my Asus M2n-SLi deluxe board...figured its a bit old and out dated.

Just bought a Asus M4a79 Deluxe,

Here my revise PC build

Athlon 64 X2 7850 Black = $70

Asus M4a79 Deluxe Mobo =$110

G. Skill DDR2 4GB (2X2GB) 1066 =$50

Geforce 9800 GTX+ = $130

Westren Digital 640GB 7200RPM = $70

Corsair 750W PSU = $120

Total Cost of Build =$550

Good build? Thinking of pulling the trigger and ordering this stuff on Monday. If any other suggestions let me know. Thanks. =)

Thanks for all the inputs Noquarter,Luckypotato,Heartless,Loke666

Drop the 7850 for an AM3/AM2+ Athalon II 250 ($85) or Phenom II 550 ($105).  Much better performance (bus/Cache)

If you are going the AMD route get an ATI.  You can nab a ATI 4850 for $90 buck or so and it will run better than the 9800... that and with the Athalon II or Phenom II you can use the Dragon Platform (lil bit better cpu to vpu performance)

my 2 cents

I agree with this ^ - spend the extra few bucks and go with the 250 or 550 - its a better performing chip and worth a few extra dollars.   With a combo deal, you can get the 550 + a decent mobo for just a tad over $200 at Newegg -

Sanctuary is still open to recruiting like-minded players - Please visit our site for more information!

Sounds fun to me.   Looking forward to it.

And just to note to all those complaining this isn't anything like DF, it sounds like it is.  Many of you seem to be focusing on just the instanced pyramid part, but you still have the purge the uninstanced zone as well, which seems pretty similar to DF.  Its just that they added an additional instance pyramid part as well.

Chaos Wastes is literally one of the servers that is dead (not one that lacks population).   Their players have been offered trasnfers to Dark Crag and Praag.  From what I understand, eventually they will decomission those servers and they won't be available for play anymore.

My guess is that they will physically use those servers for additional zones in other clusters.

Only experience I have is on Volkmar and its pretty active.

I'm sure they wont' go to waste...  Probably be used for the upcoming expansion zones and perhaps some T4 Fort zones if they are going to go that route.
