My favorite game- when I can play it
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/11/12 3:42:03 AM
Originally posted by Eliandal I agree with what you're saying, and I wasn't trying to imply that anything should be changed on my account. Just that perhaps it would be nice if BW did some research to find out when they would be affecting the smallest number of people. As I said before, I'm willing to bet there are more late night gamers than people playing earlier in the morning. |

My favorite game- when I can play it
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/10/12 6:52:52 AM
Originally posted by Khurg Well, while I don't see how working the swing shift means that I have a crappy/unreal job(look into it, a lot of very important jobs require people to work all kinds of weird schedules), that really doesn't have anything to do with the point I was trying to make. I was saying that I understand that server maintenance is a necessary reality of MMORPGs, however, it seems that BW is starting theirs a bit early, in comparison to nearly every other MMORPG that I've played. |

My favorite game- when I can play it
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/06/12 4:49:02 AM
First off, I would just like to say that I love this game. I am a fanboy. I love all things Star Wars and this game gives me a feeling I haven't had since the early days of SWG. I realize that many of you have decided these are not the droids you're looking for, but for me, I've been having a blast since the first day of early access. That is, at the times that I can play.
You see, I live in the Pacific time zone and I work a swing shift. My time before work is usually spent running errands or taking care of things around the house, so usually the only time I can log in for a few hours is around midnight, which just happens to be the time in my time zone that Bioware usually shuts the game down for maintenance. I realize that this is a new game and I appreciate the fact that Bioware is trying to fix as many bugs as possible, but it seems to me that they are shutting down a bit early. Most MMOs I've played shut down their servers a bit later for maintenace(usually around 2 or 3am PST) and most of them seemed to have a pretty healthy server population up until those times. Am I the only one that would like to see Bioware push the mainetance times back a few hours? |

“What’s the best promotion your favorite MMORPG has offered you ?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/07/11 3:49:12 AM
Um, starting a thread at mmorpg.com and then quite tactlessly shifting the subject in order to shamelessly promote a game? Is that a type of promotion? |

Already picked up Cthulhu saves the world. Awesome game!
I'm now trying to decide between Deadspace 1 & 2 or BioShock 1 & 2. Haven't played either series at all. Anyone have any suggestions? |

"Why do I have to pay a subscription fee, and buy expansions?" [Mod Edit]
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/28/11 11:19:57 PM
The question I've had for a while is why has nearly every game charges the same amount for a subscription fee. I realize it's just kind of become an industry standard, but with so many games that are struggling to stay afloat, facing the choice of either shutting down or switching to the still somewhat controversial freemium business model, why haven't any tried going with a lower subscription fee? I would be far more likely to subscribe to 3 games for $5 a month, rather than 1 for $15. Am I alone on this?
As far as the OP's main question, my opinion is that it should either be one or the other: a subscription that includes access to all game content, including expansions (and absolutely no RMT for in-game items), or no subscription and charge for new content. It seems like too many companies these days are trying to teeter somewhere in between, and it really just seems greedy. |

What playable race would you like to see in a game?

What is so bad about Istaria, exactly? I'm really considering giving it a try, mostly just to check out this dragon business. |

I have to agree that I'm am somewhat in the same boat, as SWG was my first MMO and since the NGE I've had a hard time finding a game that has really filled that void, though I wouldn't go as far as to call myself a hater. I try my best to look at a game for what it is, and I will be playing SWTOR knowing fully that it is going to be nothing like SWG, other than being Star Wars. Of course, the fact that it was a Star Wars game is what drew me to SWG in the first place, before I even knew what the game was actually like.
That being said, if a game was released with a similar design to what SWG was, I'd be on it in a heartbeat. As some people mentioned, games like Arche Age and Wildstar sound promising, though only time will tell, I suppose. |

As far as what the OP is looking for, have you tried LOTRO? Seems to fit all your criteria pretty well. Out of all the freemium games out there, I think the Turbine games seem to have the most reasonable prices and don't limit you as much as some of the other games out there with similar models.

No really, I'll probably roll characters til I find one I like, then I'll head off to kill some dragons. |

Wow, I regret never trying Horizons/Istaria. Playing as a dragon sounds pretty awesome. |

I'm just curious to hear what playable race people would like to see in an MMO, fantasy or otherwise, that they have yet to see thus far.
Personally, I'd like to see Centaurs as a playable race. They are a pretty iconic race from a lot of fantasy worlds, but I have yet to find a game that gives you to opportunity to play as one. Sure, it would be different, but I think it would be pretty cool, especially because you could be your own mount. |

Four Tanks and a Healer - an MMO-based cartoon hits the net
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/20/11 3:21:16 AM
I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed that. I am subscribed and eagerly looking forward to the next installment. Though I am a bit sad that they were killing rats. I like rats.
Also, am I the only one kind of wanting to try a group consisting of four tanks and a healer? |

I agree for the most part, and I have to say I think that the biggest problem with MMOs today, has a lot to do with the community itself. Everytime a new game is being released, the biggest complaint seems to be that it is too much/not enough like X game. While many MMO players are crying out for innovation, it seems that in truth, a lot of them have a very specific idea of what they want, and they're severely dissappointed when that isn't what they get.
Sure, as gamers, we probably all have our own idea of what would make the ideal MMO, but the odds are slim to none that someone else out there is going to think the exact same thing and design that game for you. I think there are many gamers that need to start judging a game for what it is, and not what they think it should be.
Of course, that isn't to say that there aren't poorly designed/unfinished games that are released. However, I still think many in the MMO community would do well to stay open minded about things and try to realize that, if a particular game isn't enjoyable for you, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's bad. It may just mean that it isn't the right game for you. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: 'Welfare Epics'

Originally posted by the420kid bioware isnt stupid, they can see how catering to newbs is the secret to mass success as there are many more newbs than hardcore players. WoW has slowly overtime made its game easier and more accessible to newbs to the point where there are very few aspects left which require any skill. Bioware is just trying to follow in those footsteps by making it very easy to get loot. Everyone gets a contanier with an item suited to there class on every boss, you really couldnt make it any more newb friendly than that every boss new loots you will need to raid for a week to be done. Do I like this? No, but I hate newbs and I hate what they have done to WOW to be so successful but I dont think its a bad move by bioware there are so many newbs out there and Im sure this makes them wet.
Going around constantly calling people "newbs" is truly the mark of a seasoned, hardcore MMO veteran. Congratulations!
Seriously, it's nice to see game companies cater to players that would either like to be able to enjoy a game without making it the centeral focus of their life, or simply don't feel that spending hours upon hours of your life trying to attain a pair of magical boots is the sign of a skilled gamer (or a sane person). Personally, I'm happy they are putting so much more focus into story and not into "grinding for leet gearz". |

What mmo would you be playing if more folks we're playing it?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/28/11 4:37:07 PM
SWG or Vanguard.
I'd play SWG even though it's not nearly as great as it once was, just because there is still nothing quite like it out there. While I'm excited for SWTOR, it's still a pity to see it shut down.
I would play Vanguard if more people played and if SOE would do something with it other than just sit back and watch it die.
Wow, I think the real lesson here is that even if a game has great potential, SOE will run it into the ground without remorse. |
