The real question is would you play it if you can only play as Gungans?

But serioulsy, I'd be pretty dissappointed if humans were the only playable race. Sure, in Kotor you're character was a human, but at least you had twi'leks and wookies and droids in your party. Personally I think it's more fun to play as either a Rodian, Ithorian or Twi' Lek than as a human.

You should check out Ether Saga. I've been playing it for a few days now and it's awesome!

I once knew a guy from work who spent at least a half an hour talking to me about how badass his Orc Hunter was and how his guild was the best on his server and blah blah blah, etc. Then I mentioned when I used to play WoW I played on an RP server to which he responded "those people are dorks".

Needless to say, this confirmed what I already knew: he was an absolute moron.

People that spend all their time playing MMOs, then have the audacity too look down on roleplayers as freaks/weirdos are further out of touch with reality than any roleplayer. We're all spending our time in some form of alternative reality, but at least the roleplayers have the courage and imagination to run with it without worrying about what others think of them.

Personally, one of the biggest things I look for in an MMO is immersion, so I'll take a server full of people with a dramatic flare over one full of people named UberPwner and UrMom any day. While I myself can't stand the elitist jerks that refuse to talk to you if you don't use (()) to display you are talking out of character and so on, I see nothing wrong with trying to fully get into a game and character and come up with your own stories, and enjoy doing it myself from time to time.

Ether Saga

I second that. I just started playing Ether Saga the other day and I'm hooked. I think it might be the best f2p I've ever played.

LinkRealms. I love it

I've heard that game is great but it seems damn near impossible to get into the beta to try it.

For me it was SWG before they got rid of the awesome skill system. Now I'd have to say it's EVE.

Definitely Elder Scrolls.

Even though furries scare the hell out of me, I'm pretty excited to get to play as my favorite animal(rat) rather than the standard elves and dwarves., This looks like it will be pretty awesome for a f2p browser-based game so I will definitely give it a try when I get the chance.

I totally agree. Most MMOs lose my interest far before I ever reach the fabled end-game because getting there is just agonizingly boring. I really wish MMO developers would focus more on making the road to level cap a fun and enjoyable experience. There will always undoubtedly be those who rush to reach the level cap, driven by some ridiculous desire to "win", but what about those of us that are more interested in the journey than the destination.

I agree Vanguard has a gigantic world with a lot of cool places to explore.  One of my favorite exploration memories was when I found a wrecked ship on a small cliff over the ocean.  I went inside and found a hole leading down into the cliff.  I fell down the hole into a pool of water in a small cavern.  I swam under the water through an underwater cave and into another cavern.  I was promptly killed by things far too hard for me once in the other cavern, but it is still one of my favorite memories because I thought it was such a cool entrance to an area.

That sounds awesome! Too bad Vanguard lags like a mother fucker for me. I really enjoyed it other than that too.

Dream of Mirror Online might fit what you're looking for. If you haven't tried it you might wanna check it out.

I was kinda considering giving it another try since I have a free vet trial, but I can't find my install discs anywhere. Anyone know if there's any place that I can d/l the client or anything?

You need to add the new Ghostbusters game to your little list, it is awesome!

Anyhoo, I agree with what you're saying for the most part. I think it would be so awesome if some major MMO didn't announce a damn thing until they were ready to go to open beta. How great would that be? Instead of giving people a couple years to over hype it or bash it or whatever, they're just like "BAM! Here's this little thing we've been working on. Why don't you check it out and let the gameplay speak for itself?"

I admittedly don't know a lot about business and someone might think this is a bad idea for whatever reason, but I think it would be totally rad.

Smuggler from Starwars Galaxys, able to craft spice(food buffs/drugs), slice armor and weapons to make them better, aswell as mission terminals to increase the payout by large amounts, not to mention slicing locked cans for force crystals. And to top it off, pistoleering skills such as Low Blow....come on...you shoot a guy in the bawls and knock him prone, and then the imfamous Feign Death.....Those were the days ;(

Those were fine days indeed. I loved being the only non Twi'leks that could understand Lekku. It always surprised them :D

Wow, some people around here really need to lighten up.

In fact, it's been bugging me a lot, after I started to read these boards.

Ahem... So we have casual players. Cool, they're welcome, they pay devs bills and run around and solo stuff. Yes, I don't understand them, but that's cool, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

But tell me... Why do you need to level and get everything so fast?

See, "casual" seems to translate these days to "instant gratificationist", when most of them pose themselves, as "busy people" who have limiteed hours of play (and time managment is a word unheard of, but let's not dig into this). Fine, limited time, say, five hours a week.

Why is it so important to you, to be able to get to the top as fast as you can? Why is it important to you, to have that "best gear"? Why can't you just enhoy the game, the way it is? Sure, you have less time and will hit the top quite behind the "elite", possibly in half a year or a full one. Why is that a problem? You get to play the game and enjoy the process. Not only that, but most of today's MMO content is manageable in 1-2 hour chunks, why not? Why do you want it faster and easier, when all you really should do is take the things slower and without the fuss?

Why is that such a big problem, whether you hit the max level in three or six months? WHY?

I think the real issue here is making the gameplay experience more enjoyable leading up to end game rather than just making it easier to get there. Then not only would the casual players be able to enjoy themselves but the hardcore guys desperately seeking to show off their e-peen might actually stop to enjoy themselves rather than rushing to the level cap only to bitch about the lack of end-game content. Personally I've never understood this mentality since most MMOs I've played haven't been able to keep my attention long enough for me to get to the end-game stuff. I mean, shouldn't levelling up be fun too?

"GW: Well, it’s a long time until we do that."

Sigh... late 2010 i bet =(

Yeah :(

I'm thinking they really want to offer a full experience at launch; not only polished but vast in worlds, areas and content. It is the only way to rival WOW; start off huge. Not getting things (near) exactly right in the first three months gets punished by mmorpg gamers nowadays if you really aim high with a release.

In the meantime we can at least blow bubbles in eachother's milk when noone's looking ....

I agree. I think not having a beta would probably result in a epic failure of a launch, which has been proven in the past to be something that is difficult for MMOs to recover from.

That being said, how awesome would it be if an MMO company with a huge game like this under their belt didn't even announce the game until they were ready to open beta? I dunno, maybe this wouldn't work for whatever reason, but it would be a cool way to take people by surprise and prevent all the over-hyping and bashing that goes on during the developmental stages.

(BTW, DarkPony, I just have to ask if there is any relation to Bad Horse?)

I think the coolest way to handle the whole hero/villain thing would be if instead of choosing a side, your standing as a hero or villain was determined by your actions and how you're viewed by the public at large. Maybe something kinda similar to the alignment system used in the KOTOR games. After all, it's easy to call yourself a hero, but actions speak louder than words and there are many shades of grey between good and evil.

Anyway, I realize this is far off from how they're handling it in this game, I'm just saying that's the kind of hero game I would want to play.

I think it will definitely be interesting to see how this game and DCUO fair against each other since they seem to be taking very different approaches to this genre. So far from what I've heard about each DCUO sounds more appealing to me, but to each their own.

I don't see what other people are bitching about. I thought this was pretty funny.

While not a game breaking issue for me, like others have said, I find the lack of a jump feature to be somewhat immersion breaking and feel that being able to jump over that rock, fence, etc. is far more efficient(and fun!) than going around it. I also hate that feeling that I am gravity's bitch. Might as well jump....

Go ahead, jump jump

Sorry, couldn't help myself.
