Hey, I'd like to give it a go as well.... so if anyone would be kind enough to pm-me a trial key it would be most appreciated. Likewise I can't justify shelling out 50 bucks for a game I haven't tried. But I most definitely have been looking towards a new sci-fi game and this post apocalyptic world does look promising. :) |

Is There a Way for EU Players to become VIP??
The Rusty Nail (General) « D&D Online 11/19/09 9:09:31 AM
Mate, I'm in Spain and I pay with my normal Spanish debit card.... and I have no problems. Though I did get Turbine points first, and with that CC being on file I believe you should be able to go VIP. If that doesn't work - look into game cards - i.e. http://www.paybycash.com/ddo/codelist.php Though I don't know if they still accept them and what not, ask on the official DDO forums would be my best bet. As far as codemasters is concerned, I wouldn't bet on them taking DDO F2P. Codemasters is a horrible horrible company, terrible support, terrible service, and some ridiculous pricing strategies i.e. 20 GBP = 30 EURO? um.... since when? Not to mention slow servers, and well... the list goes on. But they somehow manage to get good IP and then charge the crapioca out of it. Anywho, I avoid them like the plague. In any case, good luck - and ask some other European Players, there's loads of them on the Orien server.

This crap won't even install on a machine running win 7, says it needs DX9, when you try and bypass it, it quits, and if you click install, it extracts DX9 and then crashes. YEY!!!! And mind you I've got a few other MMO's and games installed and Nooo... problemos otherwise. That said David Allen is a total hack, for those who remember Horizons way back when the original concept of the game was nothing like the game Istaria is now, the guy literally had thousands upon thousands of people waiting for the thing to change the mmo world. What'd Allen finally release a PvE EQ clone, and a crap one at that, same can be said here. I mean a game thats about to launch and won't even install. You must be joking.... I haven't heard of anything like that since Anarchy Online 1st came out. I'll give it another go on the installation front, and see if I can get it running and give it a go, though I'm really not expecting much. Especially after the Horizons debacle, and some of the reviews coming out about this game. |

I couldn't agree more, I installed about a month, back, didn't have time to play so came back, now i have some time to play so I've invested come cash into the game, 1500 points is what 18/19 usd thats about 10-12 euro, next to nothing, and i bought STK today, and had so much frekkin fun playing thought only part of it. Hell I can't wait to go back.... hell... i had so much fun playing it that im going to work in 2 hours with no sleep becasue i lost track of the time. And like a lot of people trying ddo now for the 1st time, duuuuuuude.... best game in ages!!!!! |

PAtryz, truth be told, I've been in a few groups like that, but the vast majority of people ive teamed up with have been stellar, and ive really been adding people to my friends list like never before. I really love this game :) |

All I can say is that I downloaded it about a month ago, played it a bit, and just came back to it again a few days ago and am absolutely loving it. It's for anyone who wants to play an hr, or sit there and grind out a nice 6 hr session. Partying is amazingly easy - f2p, premium, and vip people tend to get along just fine. And the model is perfect for me. The problem I have with most mmo's is the monthly sub. My professional life simply doesn't allow me to have the free time to regularly play, so a F2P model with DDO points I can buy to spend on things is perfect. It keeps me entertained, without the having to worry that I'm pissing money down the sink. I know I sound like a total fanboy now, but I can honestly say that as far as games and fun are concerned - I dont think ive had this much of it in a while. And for the D&D fans out there and those who played the BG's and NWN, this game really does keep with the feeling of DD. Oh and another plus, an older more mature community!
- EDIT: As for the costs, they're sunk costs, it doesn't matter if they've been recovered or not, sunk is sunk. What matters is that they've taken a product which seemed to be at the end of its life cycle and injected new blood in it. |

Dude, WoW was the absolute hardest game ever. You had to have some serious SkillZ to bypass the monotany and boredom of chores and leveling.

Your friendly and familiar or not very friendly and familiar "us vs. the server" guild is in Darkfall!
Brief history: The beginnings of SCUM can be traced to Kroneri, a succesful Croatian PvP guild in World of Warcraft, which would later become known as the international SCUM guild on the Aquilonia server in Age of Conan. SCUM was and still is one of the most controversial guilds on Aquilonia, mainly because of the attention given by the community regarding their PvP liberties. In Age of Conan, SCUM was for a long time the most succesful guild in both PvP and PvE until a mass exodus took place due to Funcom's lack of delivery on their promises. The guild faced a bit of downtime after this period, but is now back on track in Age of Conan after some organization. The SCUM community has undergone several "evolutions" since spring 2008, with both new and old generations of players coming and going, but despite this the majority of the members have stayed with SCUM or moved on to other games along with people they have met in the Age of Conan department of SCUM. As a result, SCUM has now become an international multigaming MMO community with hundreds of like minded players.
Core values: Freedom: Our first and foremost focus is fun in a completely free PvP environment with an extremely liberal approach to PvP. We want our members to experience PvP without rules, restrictions, politics, alliances and guild drama. Real life is full of choosing sides and taking responsibility, we want to give our members an opportunity to relax and go on the loose to have fun together. Respect: While SCUM might be the beacon of PvP freedom, it is still of utmost importance to remember that behind every character is a real person. We're all playing to have fun, not to make other peoples gaming experience terrible. This requires us to be approachable, to know when enough is enough and to treat our victims in a respectful manner. It goes without saying that people who openly trash-talk or flame players for PvP reasons are permanently removed from the guild. Unity: Because of our liberal attitude towards PvP, we're usually declared hostile by every other guild and player on the server. This requires us to stand together against often numerically superior odds. As such, we have to work together, listen to each other and use both our wits and our skill to overcome all opposition. Our greatest strength against the face of superior opposition are the brothers and sisters around us, our bond is one forged in the blood of our foes.
SCUM in Darkfall: Age limit: 18+ is strongly prefered, but exceptions are possible in some cases. Type of guild: Light RP heavy PvP. Alignment: Chaotic good / neutral / evil Race: Mahirrim / Ork Leadership: Largely democratic, with a relatively small number of officers pulling the strings. We like to have a down to earth approach with our members, where members who are capable of leading have the possibility of becoming a leader. PvP situations get a lot easier with proper leadership, something we've learned through experience. Hence a fixed leadership is out of the question. Goal: To establish a strong presence mostly through PvP means. Make organized attacks and raids towards every other guild. Stealing, looting, pillaging and exercising piracy. Spying and collecting information on other guilds and their enterprises. Spreading confusion, fear and chaos. And to have a lot of fun while doing all the forementioned. We will also have an RP approach to everything, and hope to keep respectful relations with the RP community despite our nature. Our member pool in Darkfall largely consist of veteran MMO'ers from several different Age of Conan guilds (not just SCUM). All of us are naturally PvP focused players, and the majority are no strangers to RP either, hence we will have some RP policies regarding staying in character, a guild background, and no OOC player names. We will however remain very open towards all kinds of players and do not consider ourselves to be heavily RP focused. Our approach to RP is not allowed to limit our playing ability, and is only there to enhance the immersion. I want to join! What do I do? Right now, simply write an application in the Darkfall section of our forums. We're very open and welcome to new people so there's no need to be shy. Alternatively - come team up with us in game - and then post on our forums your application. The process is quick and painless. We don't ask a lot from the people who join us. Just that they're prepared for lots of ingame violence and possible hate tells and disrespect from other community members who do not accept our PvP policies. While SCUM is most often classified as a "ganking guild", our focus has always been free and random PvP and not ganking.

Anywho... I got in today and tried it out. From most to least boring. Grafx - They are not as bad as people said, and at times they're wow, nice one, nothing like AoC (other than DFO has moving trees and moving shadows) but the grafx aren't making this game. Some character models look good, some a bit dated, whatever, I could care less. But just letting you know. The animations are a bit awkward at first but you get used to them. Also in the very beginning the game seems to go really slow, you run slow, you sprint slow, but as your skills in these increase you pick up speed and the game starts moving along quite nicely. GUI / user / player control of the char, etc... this is super strange at first, but you get used to it after a few hours and it turns into second nature after a while. At first I was mostly WTF? now, its all good. Monster AI is like NOTHING I have ever seen in a MMO, they run around you, they kite you, they will gang up on you more than not, they are better opponents than most of the players I encountered. Everyone was hacking and slashing wildly, no strategy, nothing. Basically, if you have a brain use it in DF, its ALL about strategy. Oh yeah and if any of you remember UO and getting killed by a rat or a deer, be prepared to repeat the experience. - also the monsters talk to you i.e. "why wont you stop killing all us goblins" :) World side - is HUMONGOUS - in the time I played I barely got from one goblin camp to another, I died a few times, got killed a few times as a gray and killed a few grays, loot was lost each time, the bank is your friend, and use it after you get anything of value. Also, gold / items, etc... its not all that easy to acquire. Things are expensive, and I dont see people getting to the top of the ladder in a week or two, even with macroing. This game is LONG TERM. Next... guilds. After a few hours, there were about 15 guilds started in the game, and one founded a city - lords of death - but they were all in beta and have that advantage. And yes, as of now, there is only ONE server EU and they plan to have 10.000 players at any given time on. The server is as stable as anything I've ever seen in a MMO launch - incredible even. and finally the goodies. Pee Vee Pee - wowza! Strategy, skills, tactics, magic, melee, archery, it all comes into play. this is a no holds barred hard core pvp game. you have to think, you have to outwit your opponent in skill brawn and brains. This is what AoC claimed to be... I cant wait to get deeper into the game and expore it more see what more it has to offer. So here's my overall impression.
