Downloading now, looking for new friends
The Airship (General) « Final Fantasy XI 3/24/10 1:43:47 AM
Well I just finished installing FFXI and PlayOnline. I updated PlayOnline but after it restarts and I try to move on I get:
Error Code: POL - 1403 Some problems occured on this specified page. Cannot view page.
What's up?
Edit: Well after a couple more tries to register my PlayOnline thing it turns out they're doing maintenance. I was hoping to be able to download updates/patches while I slept. Anyone know how long this maintenance goes for? |

Downloading now, looking for new friends

Hey all,
I have played this game once before when it first came out. Since I was still in high school when that happened, I'm pretty much a new player altogether. I'm downloading the trial version right now and I have every intent of subbing afterwords. Only an absolutely horrible trial experience can prevent me from doing so. That being said, I remember this game is not a solo game so I'm looking for people that play often that wouldn't mind pointing me in the right direction, or even new people such as myself to hunt with. It'd be nice to get into a linkshell and be with a group of active folks.
I play on Pacific time and can play pretty often. I just want to get in, envelop myself in the story and kill some foes notorious to the final fantasy series. Currently I have no idea what job I want to be, in WoW I was a tank and a caster and since I'm done with WoW I also want to try a new style. I have no doubts in my mind I want to be a melee dps type job. I initially wanted to be a DRK but after researching while downloading it seems that they're being passed up for other jobs. I remember last time I played FFXI I was a dragoon and a thief, (I don't think I made it past 40 something on either) I want to try something new from that as well.
How would a Samurai work? Maybe start off as a Monk and work my way to Samurai? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to go through the game leveling a Monk only to find that I should have leveled a warrior for the subjob!
Anyways, I'm downloading now. I hope to join in instantly with a group of cool folks that wouldn't mind someone like me to hunt with or ask a ton of questions. |

Are there any melee dps that doesn't require me to position myself behind the enemy? I kind of just want a slash-your-face type character. I was looking at the White Lion but it seems that they have quite a few backstabs. So I was thinking the Marauder might be what I'm looking for? I have never played to game yet so I have no way to test it out myself. :( |

Need some perspective for the game beyond lvl 20
The Tavern (General) « Everquest II 8/24/08 10:42:22 PM
A monk is a great soloer, I'm currently playing their evil counterpart - Bruiser. I mostly solo and I'm going about it very easily. I am not in the highest of levels, but I try to make sure that when I'm solo questing, the quests I do are green (preferably) or blue. In order to achieve this, when I have some hours on my hands I like to do dungeons with people. You'll be surprised at how much fun and fast (especially with a blessed experience charm) leveling in a dungeon can be. This double xp weekend was great, for example, in one group I went from level 24 to level 33 just dungeon hunting with them. This put me well ahead of my quests so that I can enjoy them without the frustration. If you must strictly solo, you could probably visit all the other zones at or below your level and make sure to do those quests so that you don't fight mobs that will rip you to shreds.

I tweaked my game settings around after reading this post. And my game looks significantly better, and my framerates are still in the upper 40s. The only place I really notice any negative effects is when I'm in a cluttered and clustered area like Gorowyn. If I'm sprinting through that city, I drop frames like crazy. Well worth the trade off though in my opinion.
Thank you eccoton. |

Okay, I just became fully interested in this game yesterday. Prior to then, I didn't really care or read up on the game, and since then I've been reading quite a bit. Anyway, - What exactly is a public quest? Can they be acquired at any time and done in lieu of regular quests? - Is a witch hunter considered a ranged dps or a melee dps? - How much of your character can you customize during the creation? (Appearance wise) |

EQ2 Legacy promotion offered to inactive Everquest accts
The Tavern (General) « Everquest II 8/12/08 2:19:56 AM
How do I take advantage of this? I loaded up my launcher and attempted to log in but the game asked me to subscribe to the game. Edit: Nevermind, I read through it a couple of times and realized that it's for Everquest 1 inactive accounts. I had taken advantage of their trial promo which ended in July and was hoping to extend my free playtime until September. |

Aww.. According to the AoC site, only the collector's edition buddy keys can be used right now. Tough luck for me. |

My brother just bought this game and is bugging me to pick it up too. And since reading a numerous amount of negative views towards this game since launch I'm hesitant to pick it up. But since Buddy Keys work I suppose he can send me his key, and I might be willing to shell out 3 dollars for the client. Is the buddy key, or the downloadable/purchasable client a full version of the game? Will I be able to have a full AoC experience playing alongside my brother? And how long is the buddy key trial for? |
