I am italian and plus I live in Rome, I am surrounded by temples of the ancient gods, testimony to ancient religions and cultures.... For once  I can play as a god and show those  peasants gods what mean  to be one!

And not only I can play a god and chill out with all the classical gods of old here in my city, and show them a move or two, but I can also be a god and use a giant gun and go PEW PEW PEW and show my beloved believers who's the biggest god in town.

On the "mere" technical side,  awesome graphic,  open system, be able to change on the fly no more long  hours passed waiting for a group to form,  PVE, PVP,  meaningful guild systems.

Is impossible to not be excited by Skyforge, well at least for me.

Now excuse me I need to plan my temple and shoulder out a building or two aside to get the best spot in town.

I am very excited because it seem a bled of things I like,  I can choose my class on the fly, I have SCi-fi and gunner class, I like to go  pew pew pew on on the mobs , it have a flexible system ,  I can take the part of a god, when I got enought resources I can go BWAAAMMMM with my godly powers of god.

And at the end of the day,  I am looking foward to skyforge because it does look awesome and sound really fun to play.

Last but not least I am Italian, from Rome,  my whole city is peppered with monuments to the gods,  I want to be one for once! Go and build my temple will you?

Browsing through steam games I come out with this :

The latest craze is for survivalist zombie games, in this one, you have to survive all right,  just in a war zone, as civilian, for many reasons I can relate to this game, and actually is even a bit difficult for me to play this, but if you want to give a look to what a war zone can be, when you are not the soldier, I think this is a good take. Is also a good survival game if nothing else.

One article after another touting how great Destiny is and how great it is doing.

Really feels like you guys are being paid to after market hype Destiny.

Like you are desperately trying to convince us the game we bought and are no longer playing is actually a good game.

Kind of like those government funded TV commercials trying to raise confidence in the American automotive industry.

Well I am surely still playing it quite a lot. So err, they don't need to convince me really, or some of my friends, or some of their friends. As any game, some like it some don't,  I do , you don't , peace luckly there a tons of games out there for everyone.

If a game is going well enough I think is normal is used for some extra marketing, they make a lot of money out of destiny, the more money they do, the more their current  investors are happy, they use this to pubblicize their assets, new investors , and more money is attracted. Guess.. nothing new really.

That does not really feel like server identity, in fact, there is not much fo a server identity anymore.  That's just trying to keep on the same map with your friendlist, which was made because we were on the same server, now we are just a soup of people thrown in the pot.

I am one of the few that really didn't like megaservers, ther eason is that I feel it destroyed entirely any server comunity that was there.

Of course, like it or not, they are on and they are not surely going back because some like me didn't like the change.

Of course Piken Square was pretty well populated and events were not a problem, there is also the fact that roleplayers, like me,  got the short end of the stick, but Anet never really catered to roleplayers in first place so nothing new there.

I suppose for a game called Guild Wars does make more sense to be more tied to a Guild than a server, but, and is only a personal opinion, I liked the server athmosphere, with the who's who and all that jazz, now I feel thrown into a map with 6000 unknow people, that I might not even ever meet again, and have no reason to interact with knowing that I am on a permanent overflow map. It killed a bit the game for me.

Buut I think I am one of the few that didn't like the change. Most seem to enjoy it, so I suppose they did what was best for the majority and in such cases, Ubi maior minor cessat.

I guess I was unlucky to be part of the "minor".

It is indeed a complex problem, of course  a well made game does not only offer pshycological traps to keep a player addicted, I think must have a great lore, and story, but... that varies from player to player.

For me Lore, stories, memorable NPCs are as important as getting the shiniest equipment, or that speciic piece with that specific look, but, the story is to pick the interest and only then the mechanisms to keep you there are put in place.

I'd like to think people working on most games, want to tell a story, and that's most of it, like the making of a movie or a book, but that probably does apply more to offline games, like the Longest Journey, or Mass effect ; They do tell a story and most of the time in a potent way, putting your emotions in first line giving you the power of choice.

It probably apply less to online gaming, apart the story you want to tell, you have to mantain servers, teams developing new releases, I think is  a forced compromise. The more fun you have, the more you play the game, the more you are willing to spend on it, be it with a monthly fee or a cash shop. Just I never noticed how slippery is the slope between "Fun" and "Psychological addiction".

Your reply made me think to something the author of the article didn't take into consideration, could it be that MMO burnout came from outgrowing the systems that are used into MMOs to keep you in?

Could it be the brain reach a point in which get "Immune" to what's described in the article, and at that point a gamer get to the "Burnout" that happen time to time?

I wonder if is something that developers are studing to try to counter the burnout effect.

Surfing through I noticed this article :

Is an old article that was reposted, and for it's MMO examples does use World of Warcraft, but I think it applies to most MMORPGs, is not that I find it shocking or else, but it piqued my curiosity, and examining most MMOs I played in the past, I noticed that what they say seem mostly right.

What do you think about it? is the author  right?  is he  exagerating things?

I can buy the alpha access only after the 10th of this month... I am hoping to be in time to buy it, seeing I understand is somehow limited... Should I be too late I'll go for the gold prepurchase.

What attract me to AA , for what I have seen so far is that it seem to feel more like a world, to explain, when I logged in Vanguard, I felt the sky was the limit, roaming around seeking hidden corners, looking from afar a storm develope, and knowing that if I could see it, I could try to reach it, and maybe fall into a dungeon or some breathtaking vista.

This is the feeling I hope to reach when I log intoAA. and for what I have seen, is more probable I find something like this inAA than ESO.

This is for me the reason I'll go more toward AA than ESO.

Samehere , I enjoied a pretty smooth launch in GW2, My account was safe, I consider it a very positive experience.

I am glad Teso is having a smooth launch too, means there is hope that companies are finally getting that launch days are important, let's hope most future launches are smooth.

Playing I find some legendaries, but I can't say I am showered in them, nor that I never find them,  to me feel about right, some days I am more in luck than others but never felt like "Oh my god no, here another legendary item" at least so far.

I suppose using objects that  raise the chance to find one have a big impact.

Not 5 hours ago there was a post lamenting the drop rate of legendary items was too scarce, ok in specific he was saying for non RoS users was too scarce, but was anyway complaining legendary items never drop... Now I read a post in which someone says they drop too much.

Isn't getting a bit ridiculous?

I am not talking in specific of the OP, nothing against him ,  everybody have the right of his opinion, I am posting here because I noticed the post and was a bit baffled.

Err.. some of the peopke I know don't have RoS, while I do. They have the same drop rate I do... Maybe you are very unlucky but.. they actually said things improved greatly in 2.0. Now the game might be not perfect, but that specific problem seem greatly improved.
Actually I liked the story, talking with various npc one can get a bit the lore of the world, and I like that stuff. That said, what have me playing is not really thestoryper se, when I log in Diablo my fun is in blasting away  gazillion of mobs and seeking a better piece of loot and, for me, D3 do that. get togheter a few people hit the adventure mode, dungeon crawl and blast the moobs in the mos fun way possible. I like when I am on some higher terrain and succed o blast the mobs to high heavens and down the cliffs.

Sadly my reaction was exactly  "Heavens, not another launcher"

It is to the point hat sometime you buy something on steam, and it start another launcher, Uplay, Blizzard launcer, Arc,  Glyph, Origin  and whatever else.

I understand they want you to use their launcher so you buy their products but.. is getting a tad out of hand.

Getting to the point instead of have  5 icons for 5 games, you have 5 icons for 5 launcher that launch the one game you play on it, adding unnecessary complications to the whole thing.

For example I bought Anno 2070 from steam before Uplay existed, last time I installed it, Steam launched  Uplay that launched the game. Yeah I can just start Uplay at this point but.. c'mon.

Oh dear..

Let me think...

From UO I went to EQ then to WoW, remained there untill the caming of burning crusade, from there I tried every major MMO release, included FFXIV1.0  to which I am subbed right now. passing for SWG, Lotr... a lot of MMOs, considering now I play mostly FFXIV and GW2 and considering I do buy stuff in the cash shop (I love playing the flute a lot in that game) and considrting all the past subscrptions and cash shops (Included some TSW) I think I spent something along the 5.000/6000 euros in roughly 17 years (Considering I am 36 now and I started to be really economically  self sufficent from when I was 18 years old)

I am not the biggest fan of the game but... Isn't it good that they tinker with such things in a beta phase instead of waiting for the game to go live?

They are probably trying to find a balance, and I think is better if the bulk of the work is done during beta than waiting for the game to go live.

The best thing that one can do if is in beta is to.. actually test those changes and then give a clear feedback to the devs so they can evaluate the changes and eventually adjust them.

Seem an interesting concept, the goal is pretty high, but also they have nearly 2 months to reach it. You can never have too many space based MMOs, well .. I am sure at some point we will have even too many space based MMOs but so far...

In the latest patch  of FFXIV they enabled the wet look effect when you stand in the rain, or a water effect hits you.

Is more visible on some clothes compared to some others but you get it.
