FFXI is most noticeably the most difficult and challenging MMO out there right now. A lot of people have been playing for more than 6 years and have still not completed everything that needs to be done. This included the hardcore player-base.

Square-Enix defeats Blizzard on the smoothness part in so many ways its not even funny. FFXI had an outstanding release and is non-comparable to other games' release. Even now, if you look at the FFXIV ALPHA footage, it already looks better/smoother than WoW even after almost 5 years after its release.

You all forgot the part where Blizzard owned almost already all of the market with SC, Diablos and WCs. And it is also REALLY easy to get into WoW compared to other games.

and why is it no one seems to notice.

This is a topic I've brought up before in a couple posts I've made but I think it deserves it's own thread.

How is it you never hear any critic or gamer asking questions about the AI in an MMO when it's one of the first questions asked in any other type of game.

Of course you might answer that it's not easy to cram a good AI into an MMO considering how difficult it is to create MMOs in the first place...but still.

Just about every MMO it's the same thing, when you enter an enemy camp, you stand just outside their aggro range even though you're visible in plane site. You pick the straggler that divided from the group and you pull....he runs over and the two of you start taking whacks at each other for a couple seconds..he keels over and dies, you sit down to drink or rest up, and wait to do it again, and you do this throughout the entire game.

Some times you accidently pull more than one and I'd have to run away or simply take them all on while using a  healing potion. There have been times my PC has crashed during this moment, and when I'd log back on I'd notice my character  had taken them all out by using auto attack.

So why is it......?

Have you played FFXI?   Mobs have different abilities to detect players.

- Sound

- Sight

- Smell

- Magic ( If you use magic they will attack you )

- Low Health

However like you stated they still have a certain " range " that must be crossed for them to aggro players.

This. The AI in FFXI is incredibly advanced and well implemented. Also, the only real way of getting away from a mob is to either zone or attempt to run for awhile. Most of the time the mob will outrun you and get you.

FFXIV.

FFXI most likely has the best animation of all the MMOs out there. Also, if you look at the FFXIV ALPHA footage, the movement is already incredible.

FFXI.

Lmao, they even used old Lineage II sounds (referring to the 'Ahhh' grunt sounds they make when they attack or get hit).

I see some posts here about people trying to protest on other sites and try to change things but it just won't happen. Its a LICENSING issue. It won't change any time soon. Innova in Russia has the license though. You are just wasting your time :).

toddze,

Keep ranting, keyboard warrior, I just mentioned the number of active 'players' (characters), I didn't specifically say that there was over 2 million active separate accounts or players.

I will be there without a doubt.

Just to keep you updated on the 500k sub mark:

It is our distinct pleasure to announce that during the third week of April, the total number of active characters across all worlds in FINAL FANTASY XI has exceeded the two million mark for the first time!
Since the commencement of service on May 16th, 2002, Vana'diel has gone on to become a vibrant gathering place for adventurers hailing from all corners of the globe. Boasting four expansions and one add-on scenario with two more in the pipes, FINAL FANTASY XI continues to evolve into an ever richer realm of magic and adventure.

We would like to thank you, our fans, for your loyal patronage over the years, and look forward to your continued support for many more to come.

Release date(s):

PlayStation 2
JP May 16, 2002
NA March 23, 2004

Not 2003 :).

OMG! This is so awesomesauce.

Someone on your site has been deleting my comments. Don't know why.

I really hate to say this but there will be (obviously) some botters and macros that will enable you to level faster. After all, there are always cheaters in MMOs but if there is no experience system, the cheaters might make programs to 'level' your weapon faster. You all know this but I just wanted to point it out.

Lmao, raiding in WoW today is NOTHING compared to pre-tbc. The 40 man raids at level 60 were 100 times harder and demanded more attention than ever. Raiding nowadays is laughable.

WoW went too far with the 'catering to casuals' aspect. They shifted from a 'great' group endgame/mid-game-play style to a completely shameful solo/casual style of play. You also have to remember that FFXIV is Japanese and that their culture is COMPLETELY different than the Western's culture, and it affects game as well. If you think this game will fail you are completely wrong. Go look at all the games SE made (yes, single-player games, but the creativity is beyond any other game that EVER existed). SE is the most likely the only company that will never let you down. In Japan its all about honor and quality. In the western world its all about greed, money, QUANTITY, and control (power).

Athkore, I said in the opening thread post not to flame. So you hate westerners, fine, just keep it out of this thread.

What? I don't hate westerners. I'm just saying that Blizzard went too far with the 'cater to casuals/soloers' aspect. It was not originally intended. Blizzard deserves to be hit on for that and you and everyone that has been to the top in WoW know that that.. They completely changed the core of the game around them. A lot of people here are trying to compare WoW to FFXI. or pointing out things are that similar ... you can't. You can't compare those games in any way. It's a disgrace to do so. And I see you did not read my post correctly as it has nothing to do with hating westerners, I'm just telling the truth.
