Exactly.

Also another reason why Korean companies are lax on client security - the vast majority of Korean gamers plays online games from Internet Cafes which are locked down to each users social security #

The idea of each gamer having their own PC at home is foreign to them.

Why do you make up all these reasons when it is clearly known and easy to proof via google search that:

  1. The per capita penetration of computers and broadband internet access is very high in South Korea.
  2. The Social Security Number is used because of The “Shutdown Law” aka “Cinderella Law” which was basically a law passed in 2010 that forced children 16 years old or below to stop playing online games in the wee hours of 12AM – 6AM. The implementation of Shutdown Law was rather simple, any gamer playing online game must register their account using a Korean social insurance number (similar to social security number in the US). Once the clock ticks 12AM, the Cinderellas are forced out of the games.
  3. You need to register every game account with your SSN not just in internet cafes.

This has nothing to do with the quality of the games or cheating at all.

Because he clearly defends some game no matter the accusation, facts and what ever, while bashing other game for similar reasons. Who knows..

Blizzard still dropped the ball though but by the time watchdog got involved every got free day and all the issues were resolved.

I do not play WoW, and I get what you are saying. But then again a product not being what it says even if it is just for a few days is still worthy of attention. Imagine buying a movie and it takes 3 days until you can actually watch it.

No doubt Blizzard miss calculated and made errors on this release. However. saying they blindly just said fuck it lets not spend those extra money on more servers at launch I cannot really see though. It is not like the problems they had was cheaper just overlooking than the bad PR they got from it.

IS it worthy of attention? That would imply it's far outside of the norm, which is not the case at all. They might as well of made this show based on the entire industry, not one release.

That is for "Watchdogs" to decide, if they deem it worthy over another topic they should be free to do so. I feel the video was on point on most parts, WoW had issues, people complained, things got fixed. Although they might have been too late in the age of the internet. Anyway, the people on this site or WoW players are not the targeted audience for their segment.

Far outside the norm for us it is not. We are used to this stuff and accept it to an degree. But in general for people who do not play much games it is looked at as a product that a company sells and is not delivering on its "promises", by that standard it is worth attention. By a TV program? That has to be decided by whoever makes it.

What is so special to get a game at launch that we spend 30 dollars more on a game at launch than what it is on sale for today? I take Shadow Of Mordor as an example here. Fifty six days have passed since its release and is now available for around 20 dollars.

Assassins Creed Unity is available as well for 35 dollars, it has been out for around two weeks which assuming you bought it for 50 dollars it has gone down one dollar each day it has been out.

Call Of Duty, now available for 20 dollars, again not sure the launch price but I would guess it was 50 or more.

From these three games alone if you bought them all today it would of been close to a SINGLE game at its launch price.

Myself I have little to no interest in any of these games, I was interested in Dragon Age, but after seeing the game play I was put off.

Why do people buy games at launch prices when you pretty much can get them all for the same prices a couple weeks or a month later?

Why do you care what other people spend their money on.  To some its a premium you pay more to get it first.  Here are a few examples.

A new Vette comes out a dealer marks the price up 80k because it's new.  Why does somebody pay an extra 80k because they want it first.

You spend $20 for a new movie at a theater when in six month you can spend a $1 at redbox 6 months later.

Its really none of your business if a person wants to pay a premium to play a video game on day one.

I am sorry if I have offended you, why I dont know. And no it is not my business if people choose to pay X or Y.  I do not care if a person pays X or Y.

I simply asked the question why people pay more when they can pay less really. As you said it is for the perk of being there early. I get that, I have done it plenty of times my self.

As for why I care what others pay for games though. It affects all of us gamers. Just look at all the early access and what not. Prices go up because people are willing to pay. I bought into alpha of AA. It was not my best decision to say the least. I am not sour about it all though. I hope it leads to more sandbox game in the future. That aside.

My main point of the OP was that in general people can save a lot of money if they buy many games by simply waiting for a few weeks or a month. I have no intention of bashing people who do buy games at release as I have done and we all have at some point.

My main point with this is that you can save quite a lot of money and if you buy many games in a year you can get a new computer for "free" if you are smart about your purchases.

I think people should question whether or not buy games at release.Take Unity as an example here, shitload of bugs, with a review embargo 12 hours after the actual release. Is this consumer friendly?

Personally, this comes down to common sense.

There are the people who say 60 pounds is nothing to them so its ok but these people are not doing it cuz the money is nothing to them in my opinion.

They just lack common sense.

For example, a person with common sense who isn't a millionaire would think like this. I can buy wasteland 2 for 30 pounds or I can go onto g2a.com and get it for 7 pounds, I could buy shadow of mordor for 40 pounds or I could get it for 14 pounds from g2a.com for steam.

Now the senseible person would think, that's a big saving, with that extra money I can save it and buy another house to earn more rental income or buy a nicer car etc.

The person without common sense would say boastfully that's its not a lot of money for them so its ok and doesn't even bother to think forward to how many 1000s it adds up to over the years and how they could have multiplied their earnings if they invested their savings properly into bonds, isas or property.

Then there are the last class of people, the people who are multi millionaires and genuinely don't care about investing any of their money to multiply it. For them, its legitimate if they really want to pay 60 pounds for dragon age 3 on origin or get it off g2a.com for less than 30 pounds today.

They can go for the more expensive option but if they do that, they still have no common sense. In my experience, those with foresight and common sense end up earning the real money and buy games at value for money prices while those who buy things at rip off prices and boast about how they can afford it actually lack common sense and end up poorer than others because they spend their lives wasting money.

Lets face it, for most people like me, every pound I save on a game goes into buying another property to earn rental income from and I don't own enough properties to make me a multi millionaire yet so there is added incentive not to behave stupidly and to buy games at 30 pounds instead of 60 when I can.

At launch, ie now dragon age 3 is 60 quid on origin and less than 30 on g2a.com. I know where I bought the game.

Well, let's pretend you actually have income from all these rental properties you have and are looking to save a few pounds to buy yet another property, the few pounds isn't really all that much.  Not saying you are full of crap, but I can't believe it.  If you are hardcore into making money, you wouldn't spend time and money on video games.

Video games are cheap entertainment.

Your thinking is very short sited. Every economist it taught the importance of marginals. All those marginal amounts that I save in buying games, in buying food, in buying tech etc all add up to a large amount. I put them in my tax free savings account and accumulate the interest further compounding my gains till I have a substabantial enough amount to put into bonds and then property.

The sort of short sighted thinking that you propose leads to wasting of massive amounts of money in a variety of areas over a number of years, that leads to significant losses. Even at just 20 pounds a week, that's 1000 a year I would save and you would lose. I use that example because 20 pounds a week is a tiny amount but it adds up.

Now multiply that over a number of sources and aggregate the savings and you get a significant amount which you then compound through investment. People who fail to see more than 1 step ahead don't see these things.

The BS meter just went off the scale. you don't own rental property. lol.

Sigh, people like you will never learn. If you must know, my parents helped me out in the beginning and you know why, its because they didn't waste their money and taught me as well not to waste mine. So I got a good start in life and when they die, I will get part of the properties they will leave us children.

Don't act like its something special, being middle class is nothing new.

Not sure where you live, but yea. I have been looking into or atleast thinking about buying my own place. Would cost around 1k a month to pay down the loan. which is pretty much the same price as renting a place where I live. Dunno what rents are where you live/own. But having multiple places to rent out should make you live pretty comfortably and easy.

Because they want to play them and the money doesn't matter.

30 dollars is what? Two lunches during the work week? I suppose I could wait but I don't really feel the need.

Well put it into perspective, you buy 10 games at 60 bucks. 600 dollars, if you had waited a few weeks/month you could buy this by simply waiting a little before buying your games.

So many people play on low budget computers, I believe a lot of people could afford a whole new PC if they were more patient buying their games.

All I know if a game has a cash shop with pay to progress faster as in buy in game gold. I will move on way faster, because it just feels like the rewards in game is totally designed around RMT cash shop.

Combine that with awful fast travel everywhere and you have a lobby made to look like a map instead of an actual game world.

I do not mind the action combat in the later MMOs, but I want more customizing with my skills. MMOs today need more depth and freedom, not systems to handle everything.

I would like to have an option to play solo or with a mate (2 players), and something like a raid (up to 10 players). Anyway, I really like to have more options before we get new dungeons.

They should introduce achievements, more rewards for doing dungeons with less than five people, doing it fast, flawless etc. That alone would revitalize the dungeon experience. One thing we sure do not need is more face roll solo PvE.

Collections already do that to a degree (despite their rewards being a joke for the amount of effort put into them), though I definitely agree with the need for more dungeon-based achievements. This alone, however, would not revitalize the dungeon experience in the long term. It would create a short-term rewards rush to get the achievements, and this might last for a few months, but the severe flaws of the dungeon experience and the lack of new dungeon content would cause this wave of new/returned dungeon players to subside (for the most part) again.

That was no what I meant. Lets say you duo a dungeon flawless. That should reward more than doing the dungeon with five people. Put in timers, full clears ++ and reward accordingly.

Playing good should be rewarded, as is all you can do if you play fast and good is to do all the fast paths of each dungeon and you have no incentive to do harder paths.

Why bother do dungeons when you can farm close to 20 gold in an hour from just mobs? I am not saying dungeons should be on that level. It is fine as is. But put in more tiers of completing the dungeons with more rewards if you play good, clear it, do not die etc etc.

Add leader boards for fastests full clears, speed runs etc.

One time achievements for dungeons will not do a thing for the game as you said. Friendly competition, leaderboards for different "achievements" however will do.

You can solo many dungeons, you can duo even more, and first of all the parties in GW2 is composed of 5 players not 6. Not sure what game you have played;)

I would hate to see ANET remove the only reason left to communicate. play together and actually communicate with each other. Does GW2 really need more solo content? Are you for real? What it needs is incentive to play good, if you do X dungeon in X time. no deaths or whatever. It does not need more solo content, the whole world is that already.

Pre release DLC labeled as expansion. I would feel betrayed if I played this.
Just another bad game that youtube personalities pretend to be super scared to get some extra views.

Economy primarily. Crafters are a class and although it is stated they will have a role in pvp they will rely on combat players to obtain many of their mats from both player kills, monster items and places like the Depths. There is also going to be a bounty system. Although you can't level off of pve it will exist and there is some overarching, unrevealed story in the game that has something to do with dragons.

I am not sure on confirmed items dropped off of players other than a sliver of your own soul that is said to play roles in crafting and bounty.

Well that's going to be interesting. I am not sure how crafters will be able to craft if they're not capable of gathering their own materials or if there are no gatherers to gather materials. Like in Eve you have miners who are providing industrials with materials.

You mentioned something about the Depths, I remember hearing awhile ago that the Depths are controlled by a faction at a given time, while other factions try to re-take it. If that's true and still stands then I would imagine this would have a great impact on the economy.

But as it stands your comment doesn't say where the money comes from. It seems that most of it will come from pve (monster kills) or pvp. If it's primarily from pvp then this would make crafters very dependent on combat players which is not a good sign.

You should check out this video.

Probably still available in the store although kind of pricy for a map in my opinion (I guess Britannia has had a lot of inflation since I used to get it for $60 in the 80s :) )

Heh, cool.  I'm just impressed that the map survived this long and the colors are still pretty vibrant.  Not sure what to do with it now though.

I see three options. You either put it back in a random box and forget about it. You buy a frame or something and put it on a wall. Or you sell it on ebay or something similar.

The fourth option would be the trash can.

I wonder who will buy this 100,000$ death star.

Even as a promised feature - offline mode was of least importance to me.

Offline folks are not MMO players.

Yep.

Complaining of no offline mode on a mmo site is pointless.

If you ask me all games should have online only mode.

Im not relying on any offline games my self but a few months back our fiber cable got torn apart when people were digging due to a water leak.

You do not really know how much you need it until its gone, and having zero games you can play offline when you have no internet/TV or anything is kind of a bummer.

Pretty sure this game is dead, friend.

Well it does peak at 5 players in prime time!

Oh boy not another MMO:S

You might want to ask around in game or google, to see if there is a TS/mumble server for your world. Makes WvW way more enjoyable. Easy to hook up smaller groups and just roam the map, if you do not want to follow the zerg.

When you start doing dungeons, I recommend that you name the search "All welcome - First time" or something like that. Joining groups named " speed clear" will result in a bad experience for you and the other players that have done X dungeon 50++ times and just want to get it done.
