World of Warcraft: Hotfix Adds Loot Improvements to Oculus
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/07/10 7:52:53 AM
I guess I'm one of those rare people too who doesn't mind when Oculus pops up. It's shorter, it's unique, and considering that NO ONE would run it before the random dungeon feature, it's nice to run a dungeon I haven't run 8 billion times already. I've yet to log in there though without at least one person dropping, but it's their loss. It's not like it's so much less thrilling than clearing waves in VH or sitting through CoT while the scenes play out for five minutes at a time.. |

Define Masculinity in ten words or less.

Confidence, Chivalry, Strength and Decisiveness are traits I would consider "masculine." The others I wouldn't consider masculine or feminine (though tradition may be more feminine since women seem to focus a lot on traditions). "Provider" should be added as masculine, as well as "Steady" (which would fall between emotional and thoughtful/intelligent, which are both more feminine to me) and "Stalwart." I think Stalwart sums up "true" masculinity, as it includes a lot of the traits above. I'm purposefully leaving out the negative ones though heh. Obviously there is no reason that a woman can't have these traits... just because they CAN have them doesn't mean they're not masculine. It just means that she has masculine traits. To be honest, I think it's better than both men and women have a mix, as people who are too masculine or feminine can be quite unstable or lack depth (men need the intel/emotions, women need the confidence). |

Atlantica Online: Child's Play Withdraws from Fundraising Event

I'm not 100% certain on the exact details, but as I recall, NDOORS recently made changes to Atlantica's item mall. It used to be that players could decide between getting items faster (through the mall) and farming them yourself (slower). In the change, they nerfed drop rates of a lot of important items for the game, basically forcing late-game players to either pay money or fail at the PvP. Players complained A LOT. And for all of their complaining, NDOORS did nothing. So it makes sense that they would contact Child's Play, a company that might actually listen to their complaints. Also, it's impossible to say if it was hate mail or not. The entire release from NDOORS sounds more like them trying to make anyone who complains out to be bad guys who, like us, feel that 5% is a spit in the face. It's possible that everyone who contacted them said "Look, this is what's going on, and we'd hate to see a great company like Child's Play team up with scum over 5%." |

Seriously, is it really THAT hard to say "Hey, let's spend an hour or two desinging this special *thing* and then not only get a tax write-off as a company, but get good promotion and good feelings as well!" It was bad enough when Blizz was all "Yeah, 50%!", but 5% is just terrible. It's throwing crumbs at those who are suffering and going "What, I'm giving them crumbs! How dare you get upset over this! It's better than nothing!" |

Ragnarok Online: Lose Your Job? Gravity Cares!

While in theory this seems like a nice idea, the form you have to fill out is a bit much. Can you imagine going to your previous employer and saying "hey, can you sign this permission slip so I can play this video game for free for three months?" |

People like twilight because they want to BE Bella. They want to pick their "team" and run off and have lots of super half-vampire/etc. babies. They want to be rescued from their humdrum lives where their freakish attitudes scare off normal guys (not that anything normal would be good enough for them). Twilight would make a great single-player game. It might even make a pretty entertaining multi-player, where people get to pick different characters and run around in teams. But as for an MMO? All these girls/mothers want is their fantasies fulfilled where lots of guys throw themselves at them. That's not what MMOs are about though. You're not forming relationships with NPCs (at least anything beyond one-sided relationships). You're not getting rescued. You're rescuing. You're doing. The Twilight audience doesn't want to be the heroes of their own story. They want a story written around them. Which regular games are more than capable of (you can even pick who you want to have sex with). But MMOs are about community. Growth. Cultivating. Generally killing. Adventure. Not sitting around fussing over why Edward didn't like the boar meat you gave him after he sent you out to kill 15 boars. |

Do you ever help homeless people?
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 12/29/09 11:54:21 AM
Passed a guy many years ago in NYC who was homeless and had the most adorable kitten... his sign said that he was trying to get money together to get the kitten its shots. I was about to give him money when I realized... this guy probably got kittens off of the streets, sat them out on display for a few weeks until they were starving, then tossed them away to die for another kitten. All so he could get more money. Unless their sign says "need food for food," I won't give them anything. If all they want is food though, I'll stop somewhere, buy some food and give it to them. Or donate time/money to homeless shelters. Sadly, as with most things involving humans, the ones who stand out and beg for attention are normally the worst types of people you'll run across. |

If I could go back to during the writing of the Constitution...
Religion & Politics « General Discussion 12/29/09 9:23:18 AM
I would just tell them to make sure there are more than two parties who control everything, and emphasize that the party system that wasn't a big deal back then basically becomes this huge black vs white spy comic where both sides blindly shove their heads up their asses while trying to blow each other up. And then put limitations in place so that no single party could gain majority control. That way, morons who think that one side is "only" responsible while defending their own corrupt side would have to find other things to bitch about. (It doesn't work in PvP in MMOs, so why would only having two sides work in the government?) |

It's not a perfect system, but from my own experiences, the more you put into it the more you get back. Instead of whining about having been bored, maybe you should've picked a couple of topics being discussed, done your own research on it, and then approached the teacher to discuss what you learned? |

Absolutely beautiful movie. Story and character wise, well... it's FernGully. There, I spoiled it for you all. Now you don't have to worry about paying attention to the 1D characters and predictable story and can just focus on the OMG eye candy. |

Why Atheist's are laughable at most!

I wonder if it's too late to point out that the guy he quoted isn't an athiest... he's agnostic. Granted, he falls on the athiest and very scientific side of agnostic, but saying "it's possible and would be a pretty interesting thing to try and discover" doesn't sound very athiest to me. |

Star Trek Online: Klingons Confirmed as PvP Only
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/17/09 1:45:13 PM
While I think it might be an interesting idea if done right, I have my doubts considering this seems to be a fairly new decision. It just seems to scream "hey, we can't make this deadline with the klingons, so let's find some excuse to repackage them and move on!" |

Answer this question about manmade global warming. In your own words. No links!

The FACT is that there have been a lot of studies into this, and a lot of estimates already made. Scientists look at the big picture through core/soil/earth samples, and at trends over the past 100-150 years. They KNOW that we are leaving a small ice age. They KNOW that we are accelerating the process. Any moron who passed elementary school science knows this. But you claim you don't want links, even when you scream about proving things that, as another poster mentioned, require you to be a scientist in that field. People like you just get your panties into a bunch at the thought of having to think about something other than your own greed and excess. That's why you ignore the studies and put your fingers in your ears going "I DON'T HEAR YOU!!" It won't kill you to use less energy, drive more fuel-efficient cars, toss a bottle into the right container or go outside and make a little garden or plant a tree. There are so many things you can do to try and make a difference for the environment, but all you care about is questioning people far smarter than you about things you don't, and aren't interested in, understanding. |

Answer this question about manmade global warming. In your own words. No links!
Religion & Politics « General Discussion 12/15/09 4:51:05 PM
Here's the simplest way of explaining man's part in global warming. Call it: "Streea's guide to explaining global warming to people who don't understand that having one extremely cold winter does not mean there's no such thing as global warming." Our system is extremely complex and delicate, including how greenhouse gases affect things like heat/cold and weather. Contrary to what humans believe, who think that the world somehow revolves around their limited understanding of percentages and scope of time, even something like a 1% change over the past 150 years IS A BIG FREAKING DEAL for something that's been around for several billion years (aka the earth). If the earth were a human, and that human were 200 pounds, it'd be like someone gaining 2 lbs in less than a second. Now when, in that very brief second, you think to yourself, "hey, 2 lbs isn't that big of a deal," you're somewhat right. Most humans gain and lose about 5 lbs over the course of a day. However, consider that another second passes... oops 2 more pounds... and another... oops 2 more pounds... in other words, to the earth, this isn't a small change. This is like going from 200 lbs to 400 lbs in a little over a minute. Now consider your options... how are you supposed to stop that weight gain? By the time that minute has passed, it's too late... the fat has probably crushed all of your internal organs and turned you into a gooey mess. Humans affect on global warming is exactly like that. If we don't start limiting how much extra fat we're dumping on the earth, it won't be able to do anything to stop it... we'll just crush it under the weight of our own pollution and kill ourselves off in the process. While we can't exactly go back and help earth lose all of the extra weight it's put on in the past 150 years, we can cut back and at least try to lessen our affect on the earth... in essence, changing things so that in that next second, the earth only puts on .25 lbs. |

Agreed as well. WoW had hit a point for me where it was "raid or nothing," and I just stopped playing. Doing the same three 5-mans everyone did all the time was boring, and sitting around trying to form something was hit or miss. Over the past weekend I was able to do some dailies, wander through some old quests, all while killing my way through dungeons I rarely got to see (unless it was the daily heroic) with PUGs that, as a whole, were at the same level as I am. And this was in the morning (!) of all times on the weekend, which is basically a dead zone. TBH, I like the fact that I can still have a life and enjoy my WoW time without having to raid and devote myself to the "lifestyle." |
