My favorite classes of all time are my Dark Age of Camelot enchanter, with the awesome elemental golems he could summon to fight for him, and then my current fave, my LOTRO Warden. I've always been more of a caster type, but Warden in LOTRO is just an amazingly well detailed, well thought out class that is rediculously fun to play. I'm totally hooked. |

OK, DDO is debatable, but how could ANYONE have done LOTRO BETTER? I can't even comprehend a better translation of Tolkien's work into an MMO. I can't imagine what anyone could have against LOTRO, unless they just don't like Tolkien or they don't like MMOs. |

That was Codemaster's choice - no fault of Turbine. |

Just because millions of people play WoW does NOT mean it's a good game. Just because millions upgraded to WOTLK doesn't mean it's a superior product, it just means that millions of people just don't know there are better choices out there. |

If you seriously think that the EQ version bears any similarity to what Turbine has done, then you haven't played Moria yet, it's that simple. Not even close. |

This site is amazing... it looks like Turbine has done it yet again. A fully featured wordpress social network site that also ties into the game, character sheets, kinships, etc...!! One more reason I'm glad I bought a lifetime subscription!! |

Moria - not even a contest. Most amazing landscapes ever, Moria itself is mind-blowingly awesome, and legendary weapons is probably one of the best new game systems I've ever seen. compare that to the 'death night' and more of the same grind and icy wastelends. Yeah, Moria without a doubt. thanks again Turbine!!! |

World of Warcraft: Blizzard Exec: Some Left to try Conan
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/01/08 11:46:04 AM
I've done the same thing a number of times, and I'm coming full circle now I think. I dropped WoW for DDO and it didn't pan out so I went back, then I tried Vangaurd (but was smart enough NOT to drop WoW) and didn't even last a month there, but LOTRO got me to quit for over a year - LOTRO is still my all time favorite MMO by huge margin, but with all the talk of Lich King I'm probably going to give WoW another try... though I'm much more excited for Mines of Moria! |

I'm dumbfounded. Lotro has some of the most impressive graphics and majestic landscapes of any game I've ever played, and the major city centers and even some outlying towns and areas are full of life and activity. |

I can actually see how some people could potentially be 'bored' with LOTRO, but to me it seems these are the same people who prefer a comic book to a novel. LOTRO seems to be the only online game out there that offers an actual, lenghty, in-depth story that you become a part of, and that's why I (and many others I know) are hooked. It goes deeper than 'quest and craft' gaming and becomes real 'entertainment', like a good book or a movie where you control the action, or at least your part of it, and you just want to see what happens next! Every patch I look forward to how they are going to move the storyline along, but I also look forward with deep excitement to what MY PART in that story is. It's the only game out there that engages me like that, that's what keeps me from getting bored. Sure, if you just focus on 'ome more quest, one more mining node, one more piece of armour' it might get boring, but if you look at the game as the developers want you to, I think it opens up a whole new level and depth to the game.

I'm still playing Asheron's Call, and I still love it - I think it's still one of the all-time best MMOs out there. |

With Moria Looking Awesome, How do you think the rest of the game will be?
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 7/11/08 10:19:28 AM
I have to say that with all we've seen so far, I have 110% faith that Turbine will continue to put out the best online gaming experience and treat Moria and everything beyond it with the same care and respect they've shown so far. Sure I'm a fanboi - but they earned that from me, I didn't just blindly say 'this is the best game ever' before I even played it. I'm a fanboi because this is one of the few online games I've played that has captured me like it has and that has consistantly delivered a top quality gaming experience that truly rises above the others. I've played most games out there, and I really like a lot of them, played WoW for years and really enjoyed it, loved DAOC, etc... - but LOTRO is my favorite by a wide margin, and I look forward to every patch and expansion they can throw at us. |

How much loading is in this game?
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 6/18/08 10:27:47 AM
The world is wide open - there are very few loading scrrens and none of them are intrusive, and you really can go from one end of the world to the other without any loading screens - though it takes nealry 2 hours if you're walking. Middle Earth is HUGE |

I'm wondering if there might be more steam behind this now that Turbine has signed a deal with Time/Warner....

Dungeons & Dragons Online: The Way of the Monk
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/28/08 4:50:00 PM
Sounds awesome, I love the skills. Matched with the DDO combat system (which is still the best in the MMO Space, IMO) this is going to be a great class to play! |

LOTRO, winner and still champion! Smoothest launch I've ever seen, and then they just kept adding content every 8 weeks or so, increasing world size, adding quests, hobbies... no other game even comes close. |

A Brand NEW Asheron's Call on the way where Turbine LISTENS to their player base?!??
The Tavern (General) « Asheron's Call 5/27/08 12:43:07 PM
Yeah, but Turbine has a rich history of listening to their players, where SOE has a history of trying to tell their players what they REALLY want, despite all of the information to the contrary. I'm willing to bet Turbine has something big up their sleeve for AC. |

So.....Are you happy with your purchase of AoC?
General Discussion « Age of Conan 5/23/08 9:11:12 AM
I'm torn - it's not bad, really, but some things just bug me. I think that once the 'shiny new car smell' has worn off in a week or two, I'm going to end up not subscribing. It's just not 'grabbing' me like other games have, and to be honest I'm dissappointed in the graphics. It was hyped as this whole big deal, amazing 'next gen' graphics, but I'm just not impressed, I think LOTRO has better graphics. I hate 'crafting' too - the gathering is just soooo tedious and it just doesn't seem like it was designed well, it feels like it was just thrown in at the last minute. Overall I'm happy with the game for now and I'm enjoying the character classes and the storyline and new environments (been in Middle Earth for over a year, so a new story is a nice change) but, at least right now, it doesn't seem to have enough to 'hook' me and get me paying that monthly fee. I will say FC really dropped the ball in not offering a lifetime membership, especially launching the game ner 'tax time' - I spent last year's rebate check on a LOTRO lifetime subscription and might have done the same with AoC if thry had offered it. |

Two Words - Asheron's Call. No instancing, none, zero. Some dungeons are accessed by 'portal', but anyone can go in there together, there are no separate instances of them. AC is probably the only 'true sandbox' type game left on the market (maybe Eve is one too, I've never played but I've heard great things) Asheron's call has everything everyone seems to clamber for on these forums - no instancing, 'sandbox' world, meaningful PVP (you can loot the corpses of your victims and take their stuff - now THAT is a death penalty), no 'classes' - you can take and train in any combination of skills imaginable, wear any armor you can carry, a deep and complex crafting system, free monthly updates, etc.... and Turbine pulled that off nearly a decade ago and has been going strong ever since. The problem is that people seem to want all that 'stuff' plus amazing mindblowing state of the art graphics, which just isn't feasible with event he most up to date high-end hardware. So AoC had to compromise and give us pretty amazing graphics (not nearly as good as LOTRO, IMHO, but that's a personal opinion based on asthetics, not technical fact) and decent gameplay but instance it so that 400 people going to the same quest giver didn't crash the whole system. I think FC did a pretty good job, and though the game really isn't for me, it's a good game that seems pretty stable and has some decent innovation. Combat is 'new' but seems more applicable to a console gaming pad than a keyboard, and I STILL think DDOs combat is the best on the market today, but AoC is a decent, solid game and FC did a good job. |
