some xfire fan boys forget x fire does not always play nice with some games .an can scew the "data"used x fire with aoc an it caused me nothing but problems an did not record hours played right.others realy dont care that x fire users seem to realy enjoy free games or f2p games more than p2p.

nope to them its only about proveing why their not playing that game an why your a fool for not lisitng to them .how dare you have fun in a game they decree as fail!

hope the op has some fun in game . an on that note think ill go play aoc for a bit .might even dare i say it have some fun.something id recomend for the x fire fanboys .but we know your fun is posting about games you dont play.

can someone explain why is everybody saying its a solo game? i was in beta.. not high level only got to lv 12 or below. the part where you in snow place... indian guy standing near a giant flame man and theres a portal to fight a boss..... the boss with dual pink light weapon.... i solo and drop on ground rapidly... try and try... 4,5,6,7 times.... finally saw someone near portal and invite them... then i can beat it.

ill try .when you can solo 90% of the game an teaming slows down your xp gain .it leads to the" its a solo game".the same encounter your talking about my melee toon could not beat as well.but 2 of my ranged toons soloed it very easly.

The bottom line about AOC is that it is built on OUTDATED game engine (Anarchy online).  The game is heavily relying on loading screens and high memory usuage.   AOC is using twice as much RAM as other MMOS at this point (WOW; WAR, LOTRO, AION) and for longterm gameplay (2-3 hours without logging) that simply leads to all sorts of problems.

But this is easy for all to try out.

so when i came back to aoc few days ago an worked my guardian to 80 .played about 8 hours with out a reboot or loging out an had no problems .does this count as trying your "theory"opion out or does it put me into the fan boy colum?not seen those type problems since  tired aoc in its 3rd month live.

wait silly me any disagrement with a troll means one is a viral hireling of funcom.but their suposed to be doing so poorly on coin then how can they hire all these viral marketing posters?

odd to you claim it uses anarchy online engine yet rpgvault.ign.com/articles/671/671195p2.html reports the only thing from anrachy online was the Auto Content Generator system to create content on demand for missions like dungoens.but the rest is new or rewriten .Particle effects system is new an the Cheetah a shader-oriented proprietary render engine re-written from scratch .

The game looks really good. is it becuse of the art work or the engine?

I wish I had played this game when it was hot. Insteed of silly ps2 :)

thats actualy what i did instead of going for a ps2 back then. i bought a comp then ,bleeding edge an played eq.over the years even with all the expansions it was cheeper than buying a game a month for ps2.

now you look at the ps3 an then back to eq an its amazing how far consoles have come.an how fast they can fall behind a comp .eq is not cuting edge grafics like say age of conan.but for what it is its playable.realy do wish they would have done the new character models.they show the games age more than any thing imho.

And to those concerned about features...

why? arent there enough features already? I think the main reason I always, and will always, loved this game was the feeling of exploration I got. This expansion is made for those wanting to see the inner workings of Brill. Sounds exciting enough for me. A underground cavern besieged by war while watching my step over earthen bridges over molten lava.

(Mercs suck)

while theirs a ton of features in eq an many after a dev team changes a bit .they never go back an reuse them.destructable objects would be a example .but those arent the kind of features as a player were looking at for a hook to buy or preorder the expansion.the devs already said the gear was marginal better not the normal 10 to 20% better stuff.

its as if they finaly get the idea of mudflation a bit to late.now a hook that would have got more people hyped for the expansion ,would have been new player models were we promised after the burning sea expansion.bank space would have been a good one to.

on a seperate note for a new player to start on say the 51/50 server where they start at level 51 with 50 aa an full definant gear .it would not be to hard to level up.but on a regular server it wuld be a bit of a time investment an understand your gona solo alot if you cant find a guild.

not sure about it ever going F2P but i will agree with you, it has a HORRIBLE community. Hands down easily THE worst MMO community in any MMO i ever played and i have played 99% of the MMOs out there. and i'm not talkin about the ganking but just how people react, talk and treat each other in that game. Barrens chat has NOTHING on the chat in AoC.

never played champions online then? read their fourms ?

yeah general chat some times is as bad as wows .but thats what a good guild is for.most just turn off general chat.but your comunity is not based on some loud mouthed kid in general chat .guilds make or break it.while aoc even on pve servers arent as friendly as say city of heroes .with a good guild its close.

theirs reson i dont play on pvp servers .it atracts just what your saying the worst of a comunity .

Too bad. I used to love this game, and I really want to now. Its just impossible(and lonely) to progress once you start getting past 65 or 70(merc tanks suck big time past 70. I think a ranger tanks better.).

odd just other day i seen a cleric an druid with two merc tanks in hot zone both were 80 + an they were tearing it up.it dependins on the level of the merc not just your class level that makes them tuff.

a 85 merc tank the expensive one  can out tank a teir 4 geared tank if i recall right.but depending on your class an how your gona use the mercs they either eat plat or xp.as they count as part of the group.mostly one could at the levels you are talking about ,just do hot zones an level fairly fast.

um did the reviewer get those screen shots or did soe give them?cause the poster about the anti alsing is right .game looks better than those jaggy screen shots.ati card maybe?i havent seen that many jaggies in eq since i started playing eq .back when eq trilogy had just came out an luclin was still new.

still not made my mind up if im gona preorder .still have so much of sod to do .mains a paladin an if they nerf slay undead im done.eq is a fun game an the guild i play with is one of the resons i stay playing .but eq devs have had this whole nerf slay to increase paladin live dps chip on their shoulder thats goten real old.

I have the PC version, I would have both but my XBox shit on me the weekend before the release.

The PC version is nothing short of kickass though... My opinion.

Heh, I got it for the PC and my graphic card just took a shit on me about half an hour ago. But my 360 is working fine.

I hate how Pc gamers are so biased when it comes to videogames for all platforms. People forget that the guys/gals on this forum are hardcore techies and have great PC's (most of them) Please understand if you own a even midrange PC DA will look even worse and stutter worse than both the ps3 and 360 versions.

I also feel that people are making way too much of this zoom out and UI differences in the versions. The ui works well with the PC version since your clicking the damn spells but with the 360 I can easily pause the action, pan the camera, switch players and targets and use my 6 quick spells and spell wheel.

None of the zoom out and UI matters when you can easily pause everything anyway.

The only thing Ill give the PC is that its harder but even that is a moot point if you turn the difficulty up in the 360 version.

I own both but other than the difficulty and the future mod community PC and 360 are similar. It pisses me off when Pc fanbois hate on consoles.

Funny i dont like how soon as a friend of mine gets a console hes trying tell me i should get one .Then their gripen about paying 10 bucks more on average than pc games .Haveing to get their x box serviced cause of the red ring of death or how their ps3 died .An my favorite is how their adding all this stuff to the consoles to make them just like a pc...

But for some reson console fan boy hate of  a pc gamer just makes me smile. The hate has that green color to it much like a xbox 360 controler buton has, which i use on my pc :)

My guess is in 6 months the current devs will be on to a different project and some new people will start putting in the missing pieces just like happened with CoH.

um cryptic made coh then cov then your saying they made something else with their orignal devs?when they broke from ncsoft an soild the rights to cox most of the cox devs stayed with jobs offered by ncsoft.

now On September 27, 2006 they started working on marvel mmo which became champions online eventualy .but it was November 6, 2007 they soild cox to ncsoft.this new people who worked on cox after 6 months just didnt happen . its stilll mostly the same people just now under ncsoft.

but it would be fair to say that odds are to say most of the devs for cryptics are working on sto.

I would like to know too. Been thinking of moving on to CoH since I like the concept of playing a superhero game instead of the usual fantasy style.

  1. Is the character creator in CoH as robust as CO ? I spend an average of around 2 hours just creating my toons - good fun.
  2. Is CoH primarily focused on group play / can a solo player at least find things to do ? I'm a casual player and don't really have time to attend hardcore raids. In CO, I usually jump in, play for an hour and then I'm off to work.
  3. How's the server/hardware stability with CoH ? With CO, I get horrible lag. Sometimes to the point of total unplayability. Sometimes, I can't even log in at all for no apparent reason.
  4. How's the power balancing with CoH ? I don't mind class restrictions but I do mind when 1 power in a set can 1-shot mobs. Just defeats the entire purpose of playing a game if you can just go god-mode in it, if you know what I mean.
  5. What's the crowd like ? CO is generally fine but more often than not you get, what I can only assume to be, kids under 10 with no concept of manners happily ganking mobs that you just spent the past 15-20 minutes clearing the way to.

Any feedback will be very much appreciated.

1. pretty much. it does not have arm or leg acesories but has way better capes .its difrent but has imho better emblems ,you have sheilds , war hammers. an wolvireine claws an to others.so what it lacks it makes up for an you can make a more human looking toon easyer.

2.group play is more the focus sure. but one can solo to 50 an do tons of badges, misons all but a few that require a group ,besides task forces wich require a group,an they tell you ahead of time.depending on my health in rl ,i solo an have a blast doing it.group when im healthy or with a super group memeber.

i can have pnumonia/sinus infection an still play cox an have fun.few games i play i can do that

3. much i mean much better than co. very rare are servers down for any thing other than a patch.

4. the classes help make the grouping so well balanced as well as the power balanced. for while i thought willpower was overpowered then today faced some rad bots an found  energy is a weekness to willpower.you can have a few power sets an one shot minions but mostly its rare you can an theirs timers an endurace to contend with its not like co where you can build one power  an say use haymaker over an over. you will have to use other power attacks .

it may take you a few tries to learn the system .or makeing the systme work for your build.

5. cox is more adult players some young ones but mostly adult players .find out the server you like an check the offical forums for that server to see what chat channels an super groups  are looking for people.i play on protector an virtue an im in 5 chat groups which some end up being larger  family like guilds in a way.some are more adult in language than others to.

hope this helps some .its got pretty good end game with task forces  an the recipe enhancement cyctem .has the rune set feel from diablo 2 sorta.pvp is kinda meh they mesed with it to much i think. after going rouge they may fix it to be a bit better i hope.

virtue is good the unofical rp server .i play it an protector.both seems at peek hours i get invites to teams fairly regular.tho protector has a lower pop over all id say its still a fun server .

check the server forums on the ofical site.find the chat channels that would suit your play style .that makes a big difrence in the game as well.as chat channels become guilds unto them selves.

Ouch really sad looking numbers on xfire.  Looks like it is destine to fall below city of heros in ranking in a couple of days or if you add city of heros and city of villians I guess CO has already dropped below...

For anyone playing the game how many people are still playing say in the desert zone?  100?  200?

that may well be because week end play is buged alota times from some or a few or all depending on the threads you read.servers can be down an theirs fan bois that claim they can log in an play./shrug atm their haveing a no shard found problem this week end an acording to this thread forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php their haveing to fix it one acount at a time!

tho if you read the thread some had this done an then found they had same problem again.i feel sorry for roper, the co players atm . an almost feel sorry for cryptic.but the down time they have weekly an weekends would afect co x fire numbers .

The game is made to have that comic book feel, and really hits the spot on what the typical people feela comic book should be like. The term "comic book" could lead to 100 different paths, and I personally feel they did a wonderful job on showing those different sides.

I agree with this.

To be blunt though, most of the discontent in the theme and style of the game's setting and presentation is likely coming from comic book readers/superhero fans who only recently (relatively, as in within the past 20/30 years) got into it, or people too young to know any differently and haven't bothered to really look back.

Comics weren't dark, or even really gritty, until the 80s. They had serious storylines, yes, but always in a style similar to Champions, i.e., not taking themselves *too* seriously or with too much weight. Even Champions addressed this with Dark Champions, which is decidedly more comparable to the Modern Age.

You are wrong on this one my friend.  Yes there have allways been "campy" comic books but to say comics didnt get "dark" or "gritty" till the eighties is completely untrue.  In fact "dark" and Gritty" comic books caused such a sture during the 40s and 50s congress was considering passing legeslation against such books Like "Tales from the crypt" .  In fact Batman was even a dark book even though he was mostly fighting gangsters.  Yes there has allways been "campy" comics but the Comics Code Authority is what chased away many of the darker titles up until the mid eighties when many of the publishers decided to experiment aulternate headings like Marvels "Epic" line.

Just thought I would correct your history

For the most part, those weren't superhero comics. Superheroes started becoming darker in the Silver Age (50s) when the characters themselves began "having issues". They were still pretty "light" then, though. The current trend of storylines in comics hasn't been around very long.

Go pick up an old comic book.

Was 1954 when the Comics Code Authority came into being mostly cause of Dr. Fredric Wertham's book "Seduction of the Innocent", publishers established the code to curb potential governmental regulation. thats what cause campiness to be what made it to newsstands mostly. but not all comics used the code.by the way that was complete bovine excriment.you can read the list of does an do nots here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comics_Code_Authority

So your actualy gona say batman wasnt a super hero comic?or the links an dates i provided  arent comic books.their was dark stories back then it did over all lightn up after the "code" came into being , in the late 60's an 70s it was some what lighter still but their was dark stories even in those times.an the 1st anti drug story had to be done with out the Comics Code Authority  aproval .

Co surely has a campy feel like a 80s comic tv show.but um you may have been reading gold key/disney/superman type comics an think thats a great sample of what was before the 80s .but their were dark story lines .their was blood , death , a world war even .their still was dark an even gasp gritty comics back then .

That element is also in Spellborn and I love it!

Also, there is so much "I miss EQ threads"  why don't you go and play it? It runs, it's alive and its gonna have new expansion next month. Or some patched ruined it or what?

No nothing like that. Playing it is a bit clunky, and it is not very responsive on the whole. Also, it takes one hell of a time commitment, and you can't solo, or really even duo through to cap. I am not a big grouper these days. The farthest I ever managed to duo to was level 51, and that was my warrior and my wifes shaman. And we were crazy decked out in twink gear, and that was with attunable stuff from whichever expansion it was that added the stuff. Bother of us in Fungis and everything. Things are great early on, and you can powerhouse a lot of it, but you eventually get to the point that you NEED 3-4 people to get anywhere, and that is just not what I want these days. Not to mention the crazy amount of time to level. :P

That still doesn't change the feelings I get just thinking about the game though, or that they had really cool ideas. You can have a game that you don't want to play, but has really fun stuff about it. Another example for me is EVE. I go back all the time, and get bored quickly, but I am constantly thinking about it and it's wonderful economy.

err you can in theory duo to 85 . some dont consider mercs as duoing either .most call it soloing.so ya you can solo to 85 with mercs.i seen just last night a druid an a cleric players with froglock warrior mercs .the mercs did the tanking an they healed an doted.fairly effective team.no slows but you dont always need slow now.

atm i got a 63 troll warrior with merc healer at highborns in veksar. solo the room an even get to the named spawns up top.its just slow.hes even usen old wepons fleashgrinders in both hands.but hes got 126 aa tho.aa is as big of a edge as gear as you level up.now if your talking epics an 1.5 epics an 2.0 epics ya your gona need some help or a guild.

shame devs have killed the idea of epic 3.0.oh yeah if your getn bored playing a warrior with all their discs try a difrent class, sk or paladin. or a ranger.combat is dry when comparing it to say age of conan but its still fun .fights get longer tho but if you an your wife played with say a healer merc an tank merc your dps would open up alot.

It reeks of desperation. Remember people this is funcom buying any sub over a month is a horrible idea you will most likely toss it up and be sitting on an active unused account for months after getting fed up with what they do with the game.

whew thanks. that convinced me .

ill be doing the 12 month offer asap.

ae system as some have said in this thread now is not the same. you cant pl in it an boss farm as some people did an get the same xp you did when ae came out.now with the new side kicking system theirs no bridging levels an amassing xp very fast.an if you do pl out side of the ae its slower as well.

ae does have some realy good stories an the rewards later on.an is handy for makeing sure you have SO's at 22.but it doesnt make or break the game .realy like some of these so called 3 day power levelers post how they do it.no one i know in game levels like that.1 threw 20 was increased for xp gain .but some post solo to 50 in 5 days i think their "solo" is not on a map with a 50 healing them an buffing an even then it would be slow.

odd as well for all the crying an nashing of teeth over ae even before the fix,i returned to cox an was invited to task forces, groups not in ae.realy was only invited to ae when i stood in a ae building.oh one other thing most city zones have a ae building including the other starting city galaxy city not just atlas.

ae is just a alternate way to level .if you have played 5 years you may have seen most of the conent but you would not have played all the ae archs .after playing for 27 months (offical count) im still finding new maps ,new archs out side of ae.

Don't bother.

CO is better than CoH.  Maybe not now, as in out of the box, but in a few months it will surely offer better gameplay than CoH ever will.

I've seen a lot of people (in game) who played CoH for years up to CO release, and they all seemed to say that CO is better.  Well, at least no one was going back to play CoH.

hmm i must be no one.

played cox for years. tried co. bugy ,had 5 days i could not play because of problems on their end. blood moon was meh to omg bugy.hope that co turns it around but as it stands no counting bug, log in problems server problems etc.co lacks content ,an what is thier is best described as made for tv cartoons based off comic books.has a plastic feel.

odd as well those who play cox an co now seem to be only playing cox that i know.some said they would go back if it improved ,most said they would dual sub in tath case but atm theirs not enuff their to justify their sub.

disagree with this . comics always had a darker gritty side before frank miller did dark knight returns.like..

1940s Two Face .had acid thrown in his face.an became a killer. www.comicvine.com/two-face/29-5555/

1940s was good for gritty dark heroes to who killed the villians .like The Shadow www.comicvine.com/the-shadow/29-28923/

1967 had the Deadman dark back ground if nothing else www.comicvine.com/deadman/29-5690/

1971 had Swamp Thing www.comicvine.com/swamp-thing/29-15809/

1941 had The Red Skull www.comicvine.com/red-skull/29-2250/

Theirs more characters an stories that took them selves serious enuff. marvels stuff with spider man an daredevil did.Champions online style would fit made for tv cartoons an some of the 60s stuff.more tword the gi joe cartoons .

pulling eq devs off eq to work on freerealms (SOE)

takeing money from eq development to use to develop legends of norath and free realms ( SOE)

denying subscribers their subscription rate.then after fixing it denying customers their subscription rate claming its their banks fault.( SOE)

patchday pretty much got it right thier.coh has some power sets co does not .class sytem doesnt bother me in cox nor does the class less sytem impress me in co.other than the bugs ,server problems , log in problems patchday covered it all.

great review imho.co is not cox2 no more than dco is cox3.
