Every MMO has a time sink.

I can't justify paying $15/month for the thrill of full loot or losing everything to a crash to desktop. The "sandbox" elements are very shallow. With DF1, I was always at work during seige time and I suspect the same will happen with the "new" version. I can't see this game offering much entertainment value. When people realize that ganking harvesters is more profitable than harvesting, the game mechanics will fall apart - or they will make huge alliances and have a boring time. |

I decided to drop my IT for someone more interested in early testing. It appears Kickstarter glitched and two people grabbed the open spot. So, now there are 501 at the $180 level. Not sure why there is such demand for testing the game so soon. If MJ was smart he would have made it cost more. |

Camelot Unchained: The Final Countdown for a Kickstarter, and an Industry

Originally posted by Taldier Take a look at "Galactic Domination Online". It looks like they might not get funded and have a Paypal button near the bottom of their page. I suppose this is no big deal since Shadow of the Avatar took in only $125k in Paypal donations during their Kickstarter, which was only 6% of their total. |

Camelot Unchained: The Final Countdown for a Kickstarter, and an Industry

I wonder why Camelot Unchained was prevented from having a Paypal method, when there are other MMOs on Kickstarter with clear paypal buttons on their kickstarter page.

Is CSE/CU already advertising the kickstarter?
General Discussion « Camelot Unchained 4/09/13 12:06:58 PM
Out of Shroud of the Avatar's $2 million total, only $125k came from their website. Alternate payments isn't going to push this forward. Getting on Forbes is free advertising... http://www.forbes.com/sites/danieltack/2013/04/08/mark-jacobs-talks-camelot-unchained-kickstarter/ |

The successful kickstarter games often get 200k-300k on their last day. It just has to get close to 2 million in order to get a final rush. As it gets close to the end, perhaps they will offer more livestreams with the employees. Close contact really helps. |

Some people believe the excessive use of CC drove players away from DAoC.

Why is it bad to pre order a game but ok to pledge hundreds..maybe thousands on kickstarter?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/06/13 1:50:49 PM
Kickstarter helps independent developers. Most game developers are slaves to the giant publishers, EA and Blizzard-Activision, and are recycling predictable games. There isn't one ounce of originality from Blizzard (D3, SC2) and Activision (CoD) and EA is also riding on games that are nothing more than sequels (Madden, FIFA, NHL, DICE, ME etc). |

Camelot Unchained Kickstarter Progress Discussion
General Discussion « Camelot Unchained 4/06/13 11:40:57 AM
Originally posted by Toxia Unfortunately niche games have to charge a sub to survive long-term. After all these years, Darkfall still needs to charge a sub to survive. The culling issues with GW2 WvW made it so you were playing against invisible enemies. This problem went on for half a year before they did anything about it. Now they replaced culling with lag. GW2 is a great game, but their focus on PvE and character customization has made the RvR component an add-on. Also the emotional element is somewhat diminished in GW2 RvR because it's not essential to the game. That is why you often see unbalanced scores. Some people don't even bother to participate when the competition is too fierce. |

Originally posted by JimmyYO I think the problem is that you are buying the exact same MMO over and over, thinking you'll get something different. CU isn't from the same cookie-cutter mold that all the recent top-shelf MMOs have come from. |

I am in a large adult MMO guild and there is very little talk about this game. Most people are interested in near-term games like TESO, Neverwinter, Wildstar and Darkfall. There are so many games going on right now that CU falls through the cracks. There needs to be more coverage aside from mmorpg.com and gamebreaker.tv . On TenTonHammer and Massively it gets buried underneath all the other gaming news. |

Eyes on the Prize: What Tier do you have your eyes on?
General Discussion « Camelot Unchained 4/02/13 2:40:16 PM
Originally posted by AdeptusArbitrator I have so many collectors editions crap that I regret purchasing them all. MMORPGs don't last long enough to enjoy the physical crap. I thought about the $180 level but then I saw the part where they could completely pull your Alpha access at their discretion. I also remembered how useless I felt in other Alpha-stage games. I went with the $250 digital package, but the push toward free to play games will make the subscription benefit useless about a year after release. |

Eyes on the Prize: What Tier do you have your eyes on?

$450+ is an awful lot to spend on a game that wont be released until late 2015. Do we even know what game engine they will be using? |

The pinnacle of my WoW experience was Molten Core. Once they released Burning Crusade, my interest in WoW dropped immensely. The smaller raid groups turned the game into an elitest raiding game. You had to grind for weeks/months just to get into a decent raid group. I decided it was time to find a game that was more fun than work.

Neverwinter: The Rant #1 - Fixing the Holy Trinity
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/19/13 11:54:42 AM
The BIG problem with GW2 is the lack of roleplaying in an MMORPG game. The trinity means you can go into an instance or hang with a small group and play a role. While it is harder to set up groups that have players with specific skills, it is very fun to know that your skills will be called upon and you are a valued member of a group. Unfortuately the games that have holy trinities and additional subdivisions have UI's that are filled with rows upon rows of buttons. GW2 has the best action system of any MMORPG. The reason why I like Mesmer is the roles you play (portal, mass invisibility). Unfortunately the other classes are mostly hack and slash: you can change the way a character's attacks are animated - add flames or undead arms - but in the end it doesn't add much to the game. |

I didn't like what they did to Auto Assault - once you kill a recently released MMO, you can't be trusted in the future. The mess they created over Tabula Rasa was no surprise. No point in supporting any NCSoft MMOs because they could quickly pull the rug out from under you. They have closed five games in the past two years. The big problem is founder and CEO T.J. Kim - as long as he keeps making decisions on his own the company will remain unstable. I am playing GW2 in spite of NCSoft's involvement, but I will not play another NCSoft game.
