I switched to Eve a while ago, and I think the most important thing I've learned about MMOs and gaming in general after doing so is that, as a user, sub numbers are totally irrelevant. If you like a game, and it has enough subs to keep going, that's all that really matters at the end of the day. Is WoW in decline? Maybe, maybe not. Does it matter? Not really - WoW will have plenty of customers for a long time to come to make sure they get new content and expansions once in a while. Even if and when it's no longer #1 it won't matter as long as the people playing are still having fun. |

I'm still waiting for WAR but after getting into Eve I'm not sure I can go back to more structured games. Perhaps AoC will be a good fantasy sandbox. |

I'm in a similar situation, and after almost four months I'm still loving Eve even though I usually hate hardcore pvp games. Despite people screaming Eve is a PvP game all the time, it's really not. It's more like a really big RTS. You have people that fight, you have people that build things, and you have people that gather resources and move things around. There are lots of career options that don't involve pvp combat. You can mine, you can go into manufacturing, research & invention, trading, or just run missions. You can go big into the 0.0 game without ever firing a shot in pvp - someone has to fuel the POS (player owned station), manage the POS, keep the supply lines running, etc. Since there's no classes, no levels, and skill training continues offline, you're free to change paths whenever you want. This is probably one of the best balanced MMOs I've seen, as everyone can be useful from day one, in everything from pvp actions to empire mining, and the game doesn't seperate people out based on how 'old' they are. Outside of the starter systems everyone is jumbled together and people can actually claim large areas of space as long as their alliance is strong enough to hold it. It makes the game feel a lot more alive than any other MMO I've played. |

This is why I'm playing Eve even though I'm not a big sci-fi or pvp fan. Out of everything out there it's the only one I've seen that really breaks the mold. |

I would imagine the overwhelming majority of Eve's players have played some other MMO. Eve is great but it's not the game I'd recommend to people who've never played an MMO before. |

The MMO market is continuing to evolve, but you have to look beyond the mainstream games to really see it. As for the above poster, I think Warhammer is going to be a pretty big step forward, but until it's released we won't know for sure. Warhammer vs WoW now is in a very similar position to WoW vs EQ a few years ago, I wouldn't be suprised if there wasn't a big shift, at least in the US and European markets. |

This is a test, this is only a test. Had this been an actual emergency the scream you just heard would have been followed by lots more just like it. Added links to WoW Armory profile and inEve profiles. I could have said -nt- or something but that's no fun. |

I don't play WoW anymore, but having played several MMOs now I can definately say the UI is probably the strongest point of the game, regardless of your play style. It's unobtrusive and totally customizable, something I haven't seen anywhere else. |

The whole concept of 'end game' is an anomaly that started with WoW and should end with WoW. MMOs should not consist of: Step 1) Get to max level |

You won't catch someone who has been playing longer than you in skillpoints. However, skillpoints != level. Having more skillpoints, for the most part, simply allows you to do more things, equip more modules, or fly more ships. The thing to remember is that people who've been playing for years, for the most part, aren't using the majority of their SPs at any given time, because they've specialized in many different areas. |

All the growth has been in Asia though. NA and Europe sub numbers have been declining for some time now. We can't see the actual numbers of course but it makes sense that sub numbers would roughly follow the unofficial third-party activity charts. I think the market is starting to split - WoW has always been an unapologetic grind-fest and such games are much more popular in the Asian market than they are here. I think WoW will remain first in total sub numbers for a long time to come but in certain regions they may be overtaken next year if any of the big new MMOs lives up to the hype. At the end of the day everyone will benefit though. Competition is always good, it drives innovation. |

Also the reason Eve keeps growing after all these years is because the game has always been designed to be easily accessable to new players. Free download, free expansions (included with the download), (mostly) lateral character progression, new content that adds to the whole game and doesn't just tack more stuff to the end, other MMO companies could learn a lot by looking at Eve's model. |

I quit several times, but I always got bored and went back after a few months. (MMO's, despite people complaining about monthly fees, are actually ridiculously cheap for the amount of entertainment they provide). I've never been big on WoW's style of PvP though and though I did have a lot of fun raiding I work an irregular schedule IRL that kept me from ever getting very far, so after the last time I quit I tried Eve. It's not perfect but it's fun and different so I'll stick with it for a while, esp. since WAR is delayed... again |

I think the ad is one of the very very few large ads that's actually done well. Sure it's big but it doesn't pop up over the content, blink, move, make noise, open new windows, or any of the other annoying things we've all come to hate. Plus it's integrated with the site in a way that actually looks... *gasp* good. |

Argonians + MMO = win Also a skill-based fantasy MMO will be a nice change, I'm getting tired of class based games. |

You created a new account here just to complain about Eve? I'm touched, but something smells fishy here. Anyway I'm coming up on two months and I'm having a blast. Eve's not for everyone - it's never claimed to be. See you in some other game, maybe. |
