There are tons of hi level ppl now, they just hang out in certain places, like parts of SL.  As for hitting AI 30, FC made it hard - took over 2/3 of a year before the first player hit AI 30 and that was one of the 18/hr-a-day fanatics who was already 220.  More recently some ppl figured out how to do afk zix farming and that has cheapened the title of AI 30 a bit.

Completely free for the basic game.  You don't have access to the expansions and what they add, though, like The Shadowlands or perks.

I think it's safe to say AO has more players now than at any time in the past.  They had a low ebb right after WoW came out but the freebie program fixed that in a hurry. Thye still patch regularly, adding quests and content, and their next big expansion, Lost Eden, is due out sometime soon.

Attack someone who is already flagged or target a guard from a distance and hit 'Q' and then again to stop attack and you should have a flag but the guard not notice.

Free, just ask some lowbie to go grab one from the Subway.

There are level ranges, much tighter than 100 Vs 200.  Still, a player fighting someone at the top of his range is going to have a hard time, all else being equal.

I have an MP who clicksaved all his Mezz pets and none took more than 10 minutes to find.  Most likely user error on configuring Clicksaver or used a version not matched to the game patch lvl.  In any case, Clicksaver existence has no bearing on the functionality of AO.  Not having it certainly doesn't keep anyone from getting to 220.

Their service provider dropped the ball, not FC's fault.  Their domain is just now starting to come back up.

Omni this week but typically clan hold top ground 11 months of the year.  They even once had Omni to zero tower land earlier this year.

Yep, down for about 5 hours for a new patch.  Just keep trying, it should be up around 1400 GMT.

If you're looking for something that takes Clicksaver 6 hours to roll, you're wasting your time.  I rarely need Clicksaver and when I do, it never takes more than 10-15 minutes to find the item. In any case, only a tiny fraction of the player population uses it as it is hardly necessary to enjoy the game and progress.

There is a moderate amount of RP.  There are Funcom-created entities for each faction to serve as focal points of RP (Council of Truth for clan, Board of Directors for Omni, Newland City Council for neutrals).  A few Orgs (Guilds) from each faction on each of the two serders focus on RP, and numerous people scattered thoughout the rest of the game.  The Funcon Events team also has a bunch of RP charactes that intereact with the regular players adn they create story arcs for the RP community to involve themselves with.

I think it is a safe bet that the freebie offer will continue indefinitely.  While it does let in some problem persons, the learning curve of the game itself weeds most of them out in short order.  We've had a dozen ppl join our guild since the freebie stuff was started who got hooked and went to full pay and expansions.  It's not like it costs much. Most of the time you can find offers to get the expansion for free, you just have to pay $8-$10 per month.

There are perhaps too many Soldiers and Enforcers in the game, very few Nano Technicians and Bureaucrats.

14 in professions in all (2 require the Shadowlands Expansion) and 4 breeds.

To build a city you need the Alien Invasion Expansion, tons of credits, and be on a waiting list for an open land plot.

You can certainly get items to craft into other items and level up - more so than any other MMORPG.  All that robot junk can be processed with a screwdriver and that alone gives you a (tiny) amount of XP.  And the backstory to AO is more developed than Runescape (see: Prophet Without Honor for starters).  The chat system (with other ppl) is pretty elaborate, you have to set up chat boxes and subscribe them to available channels.  Chatting with NPC's generates pop-up dialog boxes.

1.When does the whole its free thing finish? does it? or can i always play it for free?

Currently Jan 2007 but you can bet they will extend that another year, just as they have before.  The free campaign has brought them tons of new players

2.is it any better than World of Warcraft?

Depends on your definition of 'better'.  You do have to use your brain in AO and it is, by far, the deepest MMORPG around, but the graphics are not as snazzy as WoW.

3. what is a good beginning profession? (i dont know any so you will have to exlpain what it does)

Martial Artist or Adventurer - both can heal themselves and do damage.  MA's don't need to buy weapons, either.

AO has had quite a few former SWG players join the game.  Our Org(Guild/Clan) alone has 3 such refugees.

Thanks.

1) Both.  Some ppl just PvP all day (mainly Tower wars or PvP dungeons like Taraesque), Others tackle the biggest PvM playfields, one of which has yet to be conquored by any group (Alien sector 42).

2) If you can spend 18 hours a day in-game and have lots of hi-level friends handing you uber gear and escorting you, you might hit 220 in a couple of months.  Otherwise, a lot longer.  And if you include in 'capping' the 30 Alien levels, then expect to add another year at least.  Right now, nearly 2 years after the Alien Invasion Expansion Pack the number of ppl who have hit 220/30 can be counted on your fingers, and they were all 220 two years ago.

3) End game not a problem, some low level twinks have gear they put on 4 years ago using exploits that have been removed.  Veterans get some extra tokens but that only helps low level chars get bigger token boards earlier - the top end stuff is all the same.
