Guild Wars is largely seen as the second most successful MMO in terms of sales in the Western market. I suggest you give it a try. It is largely story-driven (animated cutscenes with voice) and skill-based, as opposed to item-based like WoW. There's a low level cap, the PvP is awesome and there's plenty to do. Best of all it's free to play once the box is yours and properly supported (no gold spam etc.)

so anyways.  i get the game installed and patched and and when i push the play button, i get a error occered  warhammer will now terminate.  so as soon as i get this i go in the  debug files to find out what the problem is, i look at the file as it state i fail to reach system requierments because my video card dose not support  VERTEX SHADER 2 ?. funny how ea mythic forgets to put that on the box when they made the game, so i can only assume i need to go out to the store to buy another video card and dish out a good 200 bucks just to play the game.

ea mythic ,  thank you for making a game that me and many others can't play.  with the developers making a game  where we had hopes to play get crushed due to a little program that can cater to only the people who would by chance have a video card that can be supported by corprate greed.

I used to use an intergrated card. The water in Guild Wars looked like a mass of nothingness. You may have been able to run the game, but you weren't running it properly.

This is 2008. Sooner or later people have to switch over to better technologies. Unfortunately for you, the switch was made some time ago. Vertex Shader 3 is out already. Many of the cheapest of Nvidia cards have that feature.

I think some people don't realise just how hyped Aion really is. They dismiss it as a "typical Asian grinder" without doing an ounce of research.

1) Aion

2) Darkfall

3) Earthrise

That's how I see them...

The general consensus of Vanguard has seemed to have shifted from "rubbish" to at least "good," meaning that with that more players are to be expected.

Well the way I understand it is that it's sort of exponential.  So the first second it will be 20, the next it will be 20 + 20, the next 20 + 40 etc. 

Guild Wars isn't your typical MMO in that:

* end-game doesn't consist of endless raiding

* it's built to appeal to the casual player

With that being said, here's a list of what you have to do:

* play through the storyline (there are 2 other campaigns and an expansion to play through as well, which is the route most people go)

* PvP, which is where the game shines

* collect titles (there are many, so collecting all of them will take an age)

* save up for exotic armor sets, such as Obsidian armor. This can take some time as they are expensive.

* play through elite missions (The Underworld etc.)

* play through some Eye of the North dungeons

* collect minipets

^ a number of the above can be "saved" in the Hall of Monuments, which comes with Eye of the North, and reaccessed in Guild Wars 2

All of this will take a good load of time I can assure you. Each campaign has a very different feel in my opinion, so maybe it's just Nightfall that you don't like.

"First time buyer financing"  Why in the world is first time buyer financing always extremely high? THE BANKS increase the risk of lending, they increase their own risk that the first car someone buys or the first credit card someone has -- they will default on it.  Who in their right mind would pay 18.9% on a credit card?  Who in their right mind would pay 20.1% on a car loan?  Only people who have nowhere else to go -- and somehow banks think that if they have nowhere else to go the best return on their money would be to charge them so much more.  Yet the bank is stuck out when they default -- and obviously its happening alot.

That's exactly what I'm saying. They're handing out credit left, right and centre to people who obviously have so much debt in the first place.

Well considering the average American household has 11 credit cards (how on Earth they manage that I don't know - getting a single credit card over here is a mission), this was unavoidable.

Honestly before wow came out, most mmo players loved to see good game released,  most games that where new where pretty much treated with respect.  Things are very diffrent now than back then.

But seriously, right now the warhammer forum is the best example for why the wow community gets this reputation.

Of course I travel to other forums. I just never see WoW players trolling other games. It's always the players of other games trolling WoW. 

I think the problem is that MMOs have become mass market and people think it's cool to jump on the "I hate WoW" bandwagon - at least on forums not dedicated to WoW. It's most likely jealousy that the supposedly bad game is doing so much better than the rest.

 

are yo ukidding me? i was a wow player and saw many wow players trample Warhammer and AoC, heck even CoH and Cov.  i'm still considering on playing wrath of the lich king JUST to see tirion and mograine. and the whole BS behind "jumping on the band wagon to hate wow" is rediculous!  i actually think its wow that everyone compares EVERY game to when it comes out. it's sick really. i think wow ruined alot of the creativity of other mmos and now we will be stuck wit hthe damn game for a very long time.

With regards to your bandwagon comment - you seriously contradicted yourself. I think we both agree that considering everyone else is apparently comparing every game to WoW, they are indeed jumping on the I-Hate-WoW bandwagon, otherwise they wouldn't bother comparing it. 

It's really easy to blame WoW for the lack of interesting MMOs as of late simply because it did well. That cannot be  further from the truth. The lack of MMOs worth playing is a direct result of developer incompetance. I'm sorry, but if devs are sad enough to attempt to copy WoW to get more subs, I doubt their "creative genius" would come up with anything worth playing in the first place. 

P.S. If WoW ruined all this creativity and what-not, why do you feel the need to see Tirion and Mograine in WotLK?

Wintersday! I love the time of year and I think they've nailed it perfectly. They decorate quite a few towns, the quests are interesting, snowball fighting is fun and the presents are plain awesome! It's by far the best holiday event of any game I've played.

I tried the trial and loved it. Unfortunately that weekend, when trials were still hard to come by, my internet connection broke so I only got a day of play in. Was brilliant while it lasted.

If WoW has this supposed terrible community, why is the trolling always directed at WoW and not away from WoW by it's apparent terrible players (considering there are so many of them)?

Me thinks some people have serious chips on their shoulders.
