Getting Extremely Fustrated With WAR
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 3/24/09 12:42:21 PM
You definitely are picky. But I enjoy this game but haven't been able to find that class for me either (although I admit part of that reason is because I'm an alt-o-holic). I wasn't able to hit 60 for a year on WoW - never came close to maxing out in EQ and never did in DAoC till after they made it freakin' easy as heck - so a lot of it is just me not being able to stick to a character.
But I thought DAoC had the best classes in any mmorpg ever. I like EQs classes as well as the uniqueness of CoH/CoV too. There were so many classes to choose from in DAoC and while the classes were similar in each realm - they weren't exactly mirrors so you could roll an a different realm and have a whole new experience. Thane and skald were amazing though - also valkyrie were nice as well as reavers for some of the melee hybrids. Loved theurgists/SM/BD/zerker as well (and even the bow classes - but only in early BGs). DAoC has more class balance issue than any other mmorpg I've played though - and that's what happens with so many. WAR does have issues with class balance - but not near as severely.
:p - I still remember killing guys on Modred 20 levels above me solo with my pet classes like theurgist/cabalist/enchanter. Vamps were also retarded and dumb to add into the game.
I figured WAR would have some great classes as well (which there are some very cool ones) - but didn't quite meet the expectations I had from DAoC's classes. I'm also not too fond of the special mechanic that every class in WAR seems to have - some work well, but others just ruin the class for me. I can appreciate the WP/DoK, SM/BO, and few others with their special mechanic - but I do not like the Mara/SW/WL ones too much - the BW/sorc one could also use some tweaks. |

and those other games have websites that still state they're in beta and still list all those other features? what would a REASONABLE person expect? and let's say... wow, releasing without it's battlegrounds, but pretty much everything else... you're comparing that to the 2/3rds (or more) of the listed features which didn't make it to retail for darkfall?
but what i said is ridiculous? for not being a fanboi... Lol - look at my posts in this forum if you think I'm a fanboi. I hardly have much positive to say about the game - I wasn't even playing on buying the game but spontaneously did it because I knew I'd never be able to decide if I liked it by reading fanboy/hater reviews. But 2/3rds? That's laughable.
I wasn't aware that I was talking about the website not being updated - but I agree that it needs to be. That's pathetic but I usually got the updates from the forums. But yes - lots of websites have left un-added features up on their websites. AoC for example. I don't like it when people use the excuse - but still - it is a fairly limited staff working on the game, but they should still update their website a bit.
And WoW left a lot more than battlegrounds out at their release.

number 3... shame on av for selling an incredibly feature incomplete game. the game is STILL not what is advertised on the website... and, as can be seen by this thread (and others) -- non-fanatics do what a reasonable person would expect for a digital-download-only game -- they check out the website and get COMPLETELY incorrect information.
bait and switch is illegal in this country.

Just make sure you pick the most populated trial server. And go for Vortex (best server in any mmorpg I have heard) if you subscribe. |

When will this game be open for anyone and everyone?

PM me if you think you're 'worthy'. That's as much as I can say without getting my post deleted on this site apparently. |

What's the best/safest way to sell my account these days? I have an Darkfall Online account and probably won't play it anymore. It has a lot of upside from what I could see (of course I didn't like some stuff about it) but none of my friends are willing to play/test it and the the #1 priority in my decision to play any game/subscribe.
Also - how much could I get? Would like to atleast break even - but more would be nice :p. |

WAR: Mythic invites old subs to try again for free

So I'll have an email if I am eligible for the 10-days? Reason I ask is because my account close literally about a month ago but I'm not sure if it was 30 days ago.. may have been 29 days sadly. Really would have helped to activate all accounts for 10 days cancelled BEFORE the new patch.... |

I was able to get in. And I've been fairly hesitant and skeptical about the game - not to the degree of some of the 'trolls' or 'haters' - so we'll see how it does. I'll probably give a review later if someone in my category hasn't (the category of hoping it succeeds but isn't optimistic that it will be a hit).
I only got to create my character before they server went down but just a few observations about character creation.
Better models than I thought (except for the alfar - imo but I don't like their looks). Human looks pretty good as does dwarf (although female dwarf is hideous). Orc could use a bit of work too but it suits me fine and I may roll one actually instead of my human.

Lol. That literally makes no sense. The graphics are awesome because the world is so huge and it has no instancing? hahahaha. I've heard that argument for games with bad performance like Vanguard as an excuse to why its bad - but how do you use that to prove the graphics are 2nd to only AoC. Haha - wow - I'm still in shock at that attempt to hype something that is average/below average in compared to current mmos (nothing wrong with being average - but to try to play it off as good or a strength is just laughable and makes you lose all credibility).
I'm going to assume that post was sarcasm (probably was - sarcasm can be hard to catch over the internet). |

You could tell he wasn't a fanboy and had some issues with the game - but he kept his comments in check and showed a ton of stuff for starts (although mostly solo play which seems boring imo in Darkfall). Not to mention it was all in HD which is always a plus. |

Every game has its weaknesses - and Darkfall's are obviously its sound/animation/overall graphics (although not nearly as bad as the animations portion of it).
If you don't want for people to question you and if you want people to actually believe anything you say - then why would you even put that laughable statement in your post? I have no problem with anything else you said in your post - but that line was comical and jumped off the page at me. |

This. I was actually about ready to sign up until I read that portion of his post - how much do you get paid to write these things? :p J/k about that - but it's clear to me that even if Darkfall was slightly below your expectations you probably would not be able to swallow your pride and admit it (and I'm not saying it is or isn't - because I wouldn't know having not played the game).
I know 10 games off the top of my head that have better graphics than Darkfall. I think even EQ1 with the Luclin revamp has better or equal graphics to Darkfall. When I first showed my brother a video of someone fighting a skeleton - EQ first came to mind as well.
I hope I can get past the graphics (not too much of a big deal) and the animations (maybe a deal breaker for me personally) if I decide to play. Darkfall probably has a ton of very fun and enjoyable features - but c'mon - be realistic here and stop spewing out lies like "graphics are second only to AoCs." |

BUT - if they don't fix some of the horrid animations (specifically combat ones) that could break it. If I am swinging a 2h wep and standing relatively still - I think I should have to do something more than twist my hips from left to right to swing a huge polearm. It looked pitiful. I really hope they look into that. EQ had smoother combat animations in its release. |

Welcome to the land of mmorpgs. Go play original EQ or DAoC (before any expansions - two of the three games that really set the stage for mmorpgs and their future) then come complain about grinding. |

Would WAR have been better with 3 factions?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 12/14/08 4:45:48 PM
Would have loved another 3 faction game. But WAR has population issues already - splitting it up even more would be tough on this game. DAoC did great in its prime with 3 though. Still think WAR needs even fewer servers. |

As for the topic, and this is my opinion: Performance is MUCH worse than say patch 1.04. It went from good, to playable, to barely playable (1.06). I hope it starts getting better in 1.1. Lag, CTDs, stuttering etc. are still there. I'm not the only one who's getting worse performance than before, you can check any forums. However everything else is getting better, from RvR population, to population balance, out of sync animations, loot, bugs and more stuff. So while I was enjoying the game, the degrading performance from patch to patch is starting to get on my nerves and if it doesn't get better in 1.1, I'll probably cancel until performance is good again. So to answer your question, patches are fixing everything except performance (on my side at least).
Not sure why you're having problems. Mine runs great. Better than it did when it first came out. |
