2 am - 9m(gmt+8), we are sleeping..australian also sleeping....

But on the upside, pretty ideal for the EU

ANet take Europe very seriously as a market, it's not ALL about you guys y'know ;)

A REALLY good article that SO sums up my feelings about the state of MMOs in particular.

http://kotaku.com/5908402/its-time-to-take-these-old-mmo-games-out-back-and-shoot-them

Go and read the rest in the link. ^^

Well, tbh, the last person I would ask for an opinion of the genre is someone who professes to hate it, admits a grudge against it, and says he never engaged with a community in one (and therefore missing the entire point of the actual games and the only thing that lifts them above solo player games for many).

MMORPGs have always been about the communities, the people, the friendships. He never was part of that, and so he will never get it.

His view is also jaundiced as only an outsiders can be when talking about something they don't understand (and therefore 'don't like'). He comes from a very limited place and is applying a very wide false logic to a very narrow set of objects.

Therefore, opinion discarded.

I'm kind of a clutz.  I'm interested in GW2, but I don't know about all this dodging and weapon swapping and stuff.  Is there a class for me the keeps it kinda simple??

Get yourself a G510 keyboard or similar is my advice, you can very easily localise the keys you need on to the G buttons and the live macro recording makes that end of things a cinch even for the layman.

Only people who dont know Failcom can be hyped by anything made by this bunch really.

Or, you know, people could just try the game out and form an opinion from the actual game rather than fight about assumptions.

assumptions built on experience with the same dev are valid, to a point.

I mean... keep a more or less open mind, sure, but to ignore past experiences is to not learn anything. Ofc FC's past launches should be recognised and taken into account. If they prove that pattern wrong this time, fine, I'm ok and happy with that, but at this point I would be a liar if I said my previous experience with the company wasn't killing my hype for this title.

Isn't a community like that going to have an effect on player retention?

Bingo!

Thats exactly what cheap assed gankers do not understand... they are killing their own game with the way they play by looking for the most carebear way of scoring the most easy kills. They then complain, ofc, about their server being dead and rage at the Provider as if it was their fault.

The ones that DO get it don't give a crap and are happy to kill the game for the lolz, before they move to the next. They are like locusts.

Western PvP communities are cesspits tbh, especially in shiny new games, and double especially in ones that they may well be playing while they wait for the 'real deal'.

I like a LOT about TERA, but I won't play MMORPG PvP that uses this kind of system anymore.

anyone else really bored of spiders in these games?

Not really about TERA, but... well...

I don't like spiders IRL. Really, really, really don't like. D:

Bored? No. I'm not happy with them making the spiders in these games, bigger, hairier and movement resembling the real things down to a tee.

D: D: D: D: D: D:

haha fair enough :)

Every arachnophobiac loves this spider.

Well, spider bored as I am, have to admit this is pretty bad assed looking :)

Didn't I play this in 1995?

I consider that a compliment to a title, considering where recent game design has gone on the whole.

Folks.  It's not paid.  Their PR person asked if we wanted the exclusive, I said yes. I tend not to say no to such things.  ;)

I accept this, but maybe better to not let them write their own copy under your name? Or present it clearly as a Developer penned promotion? What they say, the way it's presented right now, represents you as a site here, guest or not.

I'm not sure that's good for your image :/

I mean, it wasn't so long ago this site ran a piece criticising posters using too much hyperbole...

Whatever, many of you are living at the expenses of your mommy and daddy CC, so whatever, enjoy the game. For me I am not paying for  the game until i can test it first.

Maybe some of us just earn enough and liked what we saw enough before hand that the risk wasn't that great in our minds.

And what do ya know..?

It paid off anyhow.

Once it's over they will have to come up with something to save face publicly so predictions are?

Lie?

Why are people talking about games like EQ and VG?

You're doing it wrong.

If I won the lottery (yeah yeah, I know...) Spellborn would be bought the next day and be put back in development for another year.

It really was a cracking little game, ruined only by the cash running out, a bad publisher, and an early release (which is really all part of the same thing).

I looked at some old SS from the game while reading this and it still looks good to my eyes.

I've got news for you... you are not in traffic, you ARE traffic.

I'm not sure of the extent, but have to say... I found the underwater content that I tried in the game a LOT of fun. It felt very natural and well thought out.

and it's beautiful.

I hope there is a lot tbh.

I think it would be a shame to judge ANet's work in this area on the failed attempts of other devs... Like many things in GW2 it has been apporached differently and the usuual problems thought about and addressed.I feel they have succeeded in opening up underwater play as a valid full part of a MMO.

It isn't changing anything. The game is combining good features from other games, it's not anything revolutionary but rather just seems that way due to the sheer amount of drivel that has tried to pass as the next best thing over the past few years.

All I can say is you are in for a pleasant surprise if you decide to play the game.

GW2 is pretty impressive as a game and fun as hell, but it isn't even the most perfect implimentation of it's own "on paper" MMORPG design doctrine possible. That's one thing that excites me about the game. I love GW2 itself, but there is room for others to take the lessons of GW2 design and deliver an even more compelling game experience.

GW2 would have been a more modest evolution over the competition if the genre hadn't essentially stopped innovating after WoW was released. With a five year + development process, GW2 was designed to be an evolutionary step ahead of the anticipated competition. When everyone else essentially stood still, or even fell back a step from vanilla WoW, it set up GW2 to be something revolutionary in it's launch window.

Some people got this just by reading and watching everything they could find from the developers over the last two years. Others won't get it until they play it and play it long enough to get the old way of thinking completely out of their systems.

Nicely put.

actually, NVM, cba to get into one of Exposed's threads:P

Your general tone means I really cba to try and and have a deep conversation with you about the game, so I will just say I didn't call it a WoW clone... I called it simply a 'generic clone' and said it's feature list was disapointing, especially compared to what Archeage is showing.

I personally think my use of the 'unambitious' is valid for the title, based on what they have chosen to show.

Right now AA is setting the bar for what a modern 'conventional' MMO should look like in terms of features. If XL games can do it, why not the cash rich Zenimax?

My general tone is no more or no less what has been seen through the entirety of these conversations. I'm looking forward to AA myself, doesn't mean every game has to be what AA is.

No it certainly doesn't, I agree.

But it is undeniable that Zenimax and XL are in the same race (much more so then, say, SWtOR and GW2 are) and comparisons are unavoidable.

Isn't TESO meant to land next year? That might well put it more or less in the same window as AA in the West... If I was Zenimax I wouldn't be looking forward to that.

This may be so, and I'm not saying TESO is going to do well, my beef is the assertion that it's a clone of WOW or TOR, when what I've read doesn't resmeble those games much if at all.

the diversion from TES have a point, and I can't argue against it, I respect their right to feel that way. But when they let that guide nonsensical points and witty retorts well that's a different story.

*edited for space rather then content*

I can see where you are coming from and the majority of what you say is valid.

Are folks over reacting? Sure they are, they always do, but there is a kernal of truth to the over reaction... People expected the unique play experience of Skyrim to be ported into a game they could share with others, which this obviously isn't (whatever else it may be). They see it as a missed opportunity to do something special.

I would personally rather just have seen an optional multiplayer DLC launched for Skyrim then what is being offered here tho tbh, but that's just me.

I agree the other points were valid, especially the guild number limit. 100 is tiny considering the fact that many will be a member of multiple guilds. Is that 100 limit account or character (as in Aion) based btw? I didn't check. It would be extra bad if alts counted towards that limit...

It is a member limit as guilds are account bound so you only have to join on one character :3 which is good, but yes 100 is tiny, my guild had 150 ish playing that beta.

We have 300 signed up on our site.

It is www.somnium.pro

ahh ok, this is a good thing.

and thx :)

*edit* ahh your doors are shut to apps, that's a shame, I was looking for a nice guild on the EU servers (I assume your EU) to hit the game with. Good luck anyhow :)
