/agree.

People are stupid. They jump to conclusions about a game because of one moronic post. They don't bother to read the countless threads saying that this 300 hour limit per month is for KOREA only. They just jump the gun and assume that it will be released in NA/EU that way when I'm sure NcSoft knows that would be like a death sentence to the game in the western market. Seriously, give the company some credit for intelligence.

And for all the people who say they won't be playing the game now because of this pricing plan; Good riddance. We don't need idiots like you cluttering up the servers anyway.

The bad news (as far as i was concerned) was that:

1. The download took 23 hours at around 100-200 kb/sec

2. The game preformance was terrible. After hours of tweaking and looking online i finally gave up. A computer that can play AOC on high settings but chokes on a 5 year old game even on medium (balanced) settings is just not good. On this point thou it may not be an issue for you, it ran fine for my girlfriend.

Pity, i was kinna looking forward to it too...

I've never tried to run AoC. I know my computer would not be able to handle it. That being said, I run EQ2 on medium settings most days but it can handle the higher settings depending on how populated the zone I'm in is.

I had to buy another 1gb of RAM to be able to run the game smoothly though. EQ2 has a problem in that it does not let go of RAM like it should and I don't know how to fix that problem. Before I upgraded I had serious lag and sometimes my game would crash because there was no more memory left. Now that I have more RAM I don't have that problem.

maybe you should actually play the game ... by the way how is WoW 2.0 aka WAR.

Ive never played WOW, but ive played EQ2 for 1,5 y every day. Bought RoK and after that ***** i left. And ive not been alone. Ive seen many dead guilds at Runeye server.

Ive tried second chance, during that free month at sumer, notin changed... dead game, with dead people.

I like WAR called as WOW 2.0 ... i think, ill do, what 30% of people did after first month, ill leave this FAIL too.

EQ2 is dead, and WAR is dying (rly fast) – thats what im thinkin about these two games.

Just because it's your opinion doesn't make it true. Why not offer some valid reasons on why you think the game is dead other than that little gem of wisdom "dead game, with dead people."

To the OP, I wouldn't say the game is dead at all. Every time I log on to my server there are people around. Sometimes it depends on the time of day you log on (it gets busier after people start getting home from their jobs) so evenings tend to be better for grouping, and then of course weekends.

I will be playing an assassin. I love the rogue type classes and that's usually what I roll in most MMOs. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the 'sin in Aion can do.

What Cynthe said -- There is going to be a monthly fee.

As for trying to convince you to get the game, you're either going to get it or you're not. Either it will appeal to you as a gamer, or it won't. Why should we try to convince you to play it? Do some research, check out the game yourself, and then decide for yourself if you want to play it or not, don't decide based on what someone else tells you.

EQ2 is a very on-again off-again game for me but it's the ONLY game out of all the games I've tried that I keep coming back to time after time.

It's my favorite and I've been playing since the game launch.

Glad you gave it another try!

My favorite way to get AA is through discovery. There are -always- new zones to explore, and even the lower tier zones will give you disc in certain areas if you've never been there before.

I enjoy RoK, it's a good way to get your toons up to level 20 pretty quick. I haven't tried any of the upper level RoK zones aside from Kylong Plains and Fens. Kylong leveled my toon from 65-70 pretty quick and I've began exploring Fens.

Yes, population has dwindled but then you had the release of AoC and then WAR which took alot of players away from other games. Either those players will come back to EQ2, stay with their game of choice, or ping pong back and forth from game to game. The majority of my guild left EQ2 for AoC when it came out and then our guild fell apart.

At any rate, I like RoK as an expansion from a lower level perspective since I haven't reached any of the upper tier dungeons or instances yet.

Ah, okay. Well at least they get something better than the island now.

I played EQ for several years, and it was my first MMORPG. (as I'm sure it was for many people)

However, I personally would not recomend trying to get into the game now. MOST players are already high level in game and the lower level zones can be dead. Most guilds cater to the "uber" player who has x number of lvl 80 toons and won't even consider letting you join unless your toon is over a certain level.

EQII is much more player friendly for the new player. You can solo or, depending on the time of day you play, find groups. I still play EQII, and every once in a while I'll wonder what's going on in EQ but I'm pretty sure that game is in the past at this point. The character models in EQ are very blocky and the entire game looks dated (because of how old it is) so as far as character customization and game play, EQII would be the better game.

It's fun though being in EQII and getting in a group with other players who played EQ and going "omg remember in EQ when...." and then reminiscing about all the stuff in EQ that made the game a blast (even if it was difficult) to play.

Anyway, to answer the question, I'd say you should start with EQ2, but that is just my opinion and you can take it or leave it. :)

There are ALOT of guilds out there, you just have to do some research on them if you want to find a good one. I've played on Guk server since launch, however the most I ever see it at is a medium load, I've never seen it with a heavy load of players.

The 14 day trial limits you on how much of the game you see. You get stuck with the island (I think, unless they changed it) and can only level to 6 or 7 (I think). If you sub and take the free 30 days you'll get alot more out of it.

Have fun!

You can buy housing and have a few unique quests that seperate it from WoW but the gameplay overall feels just like wow.....

I actually play EQ2, and I played WoW for a while. I also played EQ for a few years. One thing I can honestly day is that EQ2 is NOT a WoW clone. Just because you say it's so, doesn't make it true.

EQ2 has a great community and I've never seen it empty, though when AoC came out alot of the players left the game to try it. They may be back now, I don't know. I'm an on again-off again gamer and I quit EQ2 for a little while to take a break from MMO's.

EQ was the first MMORPG I ever played and I miss it. I've tried going back but it just isn't the same as it was years ago. I started playing shortly before the Luclin expansion came out, and I remember when you still had to sit and stare at your spell book just to meditate. :D Ahhh the good times.  EQ holds very fond memories for me and has a charm that I have yet to find in any other game I've played.

I also remember when the LotR Movies came out and every other character was named some form of Legolas or Aragorn.

And guilds at the lifts of Kelethin giving out free buffs for lowbies and doing activities to gain publicity for their guilds. And the time that the Sleeper was released on my server and everyone was freaking out.

You just don't see things like that in MMO's anymore.

Definitely going for Asmo :) Since I'll be rolling an assassin, Asmo just seems to fit better.

Instancing is fine, as long as its done only for dungeons I wont mind it.  I like the way WoW has its instances, it reminds me of the way Everquest did theirs, (the first one).  Even Age of Conan did mind it as much, although it got a little rediculous when trying to find your friends in that game.  Aside from that, as far as raiding goes....get over it, its part of gaming thanks to WoW.  If you dont like the raiding aspects then dont do raids, thats what I do when I used to play WoW, i would just do 5 man instances for fun, and every once in a while hop on a BG.  I usually never had the time to raid, and the guild leaders usually already had a best friends list to take with them to raids.  But every MMO now has a raid at some point whether it be PVP based or PVE.  But if you arent going to join AION because of that, you also might want to consider that AOC, WAR, WoW...almost every MMO that I hever heard of has raiding in some shape or form.

 WoW did not invent raiding.

On another note, you don't have to raid and no one forces you do. I've done exactly ONE raid out of all the games I've played and it was fun but it's not something I would want to do on a regular basis. I'm not interested in raiding so whether they have instanced dungeons and raid zones or not doesn't bother me one bit.

I can't wait for this game to come out. I love NCsoft because they do tend to have beautiful graphics. I love Guild Wars for just that reason, and I thought L2 was a gorgeous game as well.

As for the moron who thinks the graphics look just like WoW....

Get a life.

LOTRO-I have a 27 hunter and 18 captain and really enjoy the story, graphics and community.

EQ2-I have a 10 Fury (druid) and found the world to be quite empty, graphics so-so (too plastic) and quests are not nearly as interesting as LOTRO.

I recommend LOTRO.

I find it hilarious that you judge the whole game based on one, level 10 character. Try leveling past 10. There are 70 more to go, you know, and a whole lot of content to discover before you say the world is "empty".

I myself can't say anything about LOTRO. I bought it when it released, played for a couple of hours and then never played it again. It wasn't because I didn't like it. I would actually love to give it another try but I can't find where I put the damn game. :D I just had too much on my plate, so to speak, so I never renewed my sub. after the 30 days was up and canceled subscriptions to a couple of other games as well.

EQ2 is a fun game though and I've played it off and on ever since it launched. Grouping isn't necessary but it does make things easier. It is possible to solo all the way to 80 but where's the fun in that? I enjoy it alot and despite the fact that I flip flop around from game to game I always come back to EQ2.

hmm well i don't know about that,, the hits come down pretty softly.

if you look at the other NCsoft Guildwars its the same.. assasin hits really soft. but if you compare it with Lineage 2, Treasure hunters.. knock you down for real.. there it goes hmm like hardcore this should be softcore than :P but this is just my upinion

I haven't played the 'sin in GW because I heard mixed things about it when Factions came out and I wasn't that interested. But I play an assassin in EQ2 and I love it, and she rocks. I'm not saying that the assassins in Aion are going to be anything like the ones in EQ2, but I do enjoy playing the class. When Aion releases the 'sin will certainly be my first choice of class, though we'll see how it goes from there. ;)

I play EQ2 on and off but I have no interest whatsoever in AoC. Currently I'm on, but I also work a full time job and I have other hobbies so I don't play EQ2 as much as the "hardcore" gamer but I enjoy it. I haven't even looked at AoC but I've read some of the forum comments about it. I can't say it's my type of game but I can't say it isn't either, but I still won't try it.

I currently play EQ2, I used to play EQ (played until launch of EQ2 and then on and off for about a year afterwards)

I prefer EQ2 but I'm more of a casual gamer. I did love EQ, it was my first mmo and nothing can replace it in my affections. However, if you look at it logically, EQ has been around for a while now and there are about a zillion expansions to go through. True, you can get the editions that have all the expansions in one but so much content at once can be overwhelming. There is also the issue of more higher end characters and not enough lower end characters to fill all the content. There are not as many quests, they aren't as easy to find or complete, so you're stuck mainly grinding out xp by killing mobs. And good luck finding a group at lower levels. It can be difficult.

That being said, there are certainly things that I miss about EQ that I wish they'd incorporated into EQ2. EQ2 sometimes feels a little too easy. (I say that now, but I know I'll change my mind when I'm trying to kill a group of ^^^ heroics for a quest and the party wipes out)

In any event, it probably all comes down to preference. Both games have trial versions so I would suggest that if you can't make up your mind.

Happy gaming! :)
